And out of the countless bad Nick cartoons made into movies this has to be one of the best, beating out Rugrats, Hey Arnold and Doug by a mile. And lets not get started on the last piece that's come out of Disney in the last 10 year. So on that note it worth to see if you know its not going to be GOOD then its going to be fun at least, and simply enjoyable.

I really enjoyed this movie. When I first heard that they were making a Spongebob movie, I didn't want to see it as I imagined that it would just be a really long episode and I couldn't see how they could make the fun last for the length of time a movie lasts. But the story is well thought out and the fun does last the whole movie. Simon (James Urbaniak), a shy garbage man, lives with his sister (Parker Posey of Party Girl and Waiting for Guffman, among dozens of other movies) and mother, who both treat him with minimal respect. Into Simon's life comes Henry Fool (Thomas Jay Ryan), a heavy-drinking self-proclaimed great writer who goads Simon into writing an enormous poem. The poem becomes the source of great controversy, proclaimed by some as a great work of art, denounced by others as perverse trash. As Simon's star rises, he tries to draw attention to Henry's work as well, to little avail. Though the premise seems simple, Henry Fool takes on something of an epic sweep as it follows the effects of fame on Simon's and Henry's lives. This rumination on art and inspiration was hailed by some critics as the best film yet by writer-director Hal Hartley (Trust, Simple Men, Amateur), while others felt it brought out his worst self-indulgences. All of Hartley's movies defy easy interpretation, and Henry Fool is no exception. Still, it's a rare film that even tries to tackle such subjects, let alone does so with a combination of intelligence and humor (ranging from verbal quirkiness to scatological embarrassment). Hartley's films, surprisingly enough, feel warmer and more accessible on video; perhaps watching them in one's home makes them seem more intimate and less abstract. --Bret Fetzer

The Exotic Circle.......2007-08-12
Henry Fool is one of those movies that gets you to think about your life and how in the heck did you get involved with most of the people you know. Henry Fool seems to materialize out of nowhere and work his way into one family's life without any effort at all and that is basically how the story revolves.
Most people have said of Hal Hartley's films that they are an "acquired taste," but if you're one of those people, like me, who are aware of the "quirkyness" of life, then you will enjoy this movie.
It would take too long to get involved with the story/plot of the movie but basically it's about how life seems to go around in circles, and usually by odd chances or coincidence.
I first got involved with the story because I saw Fay Grim which at the time I didn't know was a sequel to Henry Fool; actually Fay Grim is more of a follow-up because it simply continues the story a decade later with all the same cast.
However back to Henry Fool, the story is all about character, so if you can sit through a character study (and the characters of Henry Fool are interesting) then you will like it as I did.
Henry Fool.......2007-07-24
Thismovie is for the intelligent people. Every time we watch it we see something different. I love it!
Film is Briiliant, DVD an Abortion.......2007-01-23
Warning: this is not a widescreen presentation of the original film, which was in 5:3 aspect ratio. IT IS A MATTED (VERTICALLY TRIMMED) VERSION OF THE PAN-AND-SCAN VHS VERSION, WHICH MEANS IT'S 60% OF THE ORIGINAL IMAGE. It's unwatchable even if you only know the movie from the pan-and-scan version (which was 80% of the film). And the transfer is atrocious: it looks worse on my TV than the VHS tape I rented a few years ago.
What an incredible letdown, because the film is sheer genius.
An absolutely brilliant, mesmerizing film.......2006-10-15
One tries not to throw the word brilliant around too often, as doing so robs the word of any meaning, so I am quite sincere when I bestow the word brilliant on this remarkable film - after all, what is artistic brilliance if not the ability to call forth beauty from the midst of ugliness? This story takes place against a depressing backdrop of poverty, desperation, and dysfunction. Simon Grim (James Urbaniak) works as a garbage man, endures physical attacks on the streets, and comes home each night to a thoroughly dysfunctional family. His mother is obviously depressed and, at times, nonresponsive, while his sister Faye (Parker Posey) is irresponsible and only interested in fulfilling her own sexual needs as often as possible. Simon himself seems anti-social if not mentally challenged. Then a stranger named Henry Fool (Thomas Jay Ryan) shows up and changes everything. He has a magnetic personality, albeit one that pushes some people away while drawing others in, and he befriends Simon. Beaming literary pretentiousness, Henry goes on and on about his personal memoirs (or confessions), which he assures Simon will revolutionize the world and society when they are completed and published. When Simon begins following Henry's lead, he produces a new kind of poetry, one which Henry hails as cutting-edge and revolutionary. While his mother and sister ridicule him, Simon is encouraged by Henry to keep writing, rightly pointing to some amazing changes that occur in individuals who read a sampling of his work. Critics initially hail his great poem as poorly written and pornographic (the ultimate put-down), yet Simon perseveres through doubt, tragedy, and controversy, eventually meeting with great success - which changes the lives of these characters irrevocably.
In many ways, this film really is all about Henry Fool himself. He's a mystery for much of this film, a strange external force that shows up out of nowhere and changes the lives of those around him. He is an exceptional fellow - but not necessarily what he appears. As the film progresses, we learn more and more about his troubled past and witness his emotional decline in both the present and the future. His darkest secrets and weaknesses are revealed, he becomes more and more dependent on alcohol and cigarettes, and the mask covering the ugliness of his life begins to slip. Even at his worst, though, he is thoroughly human and morbidly fascinating (and something of a mirror to the souls of many of us, if we're honest enough to admit it), especially at the end when the story has basically come full circle.
There is no character like Henry Fool, and Jay Henry Thomas is absolutely amazing in the role. Great performances abound in this film, while Hal Hartley's direction is impeccable. I don't know what to call the world Hartley has created in this film: it's hyper-surreal yet completely realistic at the same time. It deals with an amazing range of issues head on; oftentimes shockingly direct yet always poignant and surprisingly deep. As others have said, this is not a film that could ever have been borne of a major studio; only an independent filmmaker can take the kind of chances that Hartley takes here, or take such a seemingly simple idea and imbue it with such depth, emotional resonance, and integrity. Henry Fool is nothing less than a stellar, bloody brilliant film.
An intriguing allegory! Well worth the watching........2006-04-11
Wow, what a wonderful place this film goes to, and surprisingly so. Make your way through it somehow to the end. It's worth it. It has some tedious situations, and the Henry character is often distasteful, but overall, this film is the kind of great accomplishment that only the independents can achieve. If you consider yourself an artist of any type, and are wrestling with the questions around production and integrity, this film will be worth your while. It ends up pivoting profoundly around some of the great dilemmas of the modern artist, and offers up a few wonderful images, as well. Makes me want to pull down my ruled notebook and get to work. "Where's my fool, ho? I think the world's asleep," said King Lear. A good fool is worth indulging, and maybe even more.

Not great.......2005-11-05
I tried to enjoy this movie because its premise looked cute and sweet. The truth is that it couldnt really get into it. It's too slow in certain parts, even for an indie film. So good acting in a boring movie.
LONESOME GEORGE.......2004-11-25
David Morse's affecting performance is the main reason to view GEORGE B. George is a lovable sap, who always has a lot of luck on his birthday. This time around he wins some cash in Reno and returns and hooks up with a department store clerk, leisurely performed by Nina Siemaszko. Being the nice guy he is, George doesn't realize she's just out for the money he's won, and when he starts his own cleaning business, she is after that money too. Even though his "friends" warn him, George decides to marry the girl.
The movie is a leisurely character study, and Morse puts his heart into the role. Siemaszko is effectively callous and buoyant, and Grace Zabriskie (Twin Peaks) shrills her way through the thankless role of Nina's opportunistic mother. Brad Garrett in his pre EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND role has a small role as a blustery security guard.
GEORGE B doesn't really have a lot going on, and in the end, it's leisurely style becomes tedious and the ending is ultimately dry and uneventful. Worthwhile for Morse.
Touching..............2004-01-07
This movie was a touching portrayal of a simple man's life, sort of like Forrest Gump's life. David Morse gives a wonderful performance as George B, a sensitive, caring individual, who would stop at nothing to trust everyone and be happy with just good friends. He comes into some "luck" with money and a house, but it is soon gone, to what degree I will leave for you to find out! He does have some good people he can call friends, but alas, he gets jilted by the woman he loves and "thinks" she loves him. But don't sell George short, he does stand up for what he believes, and truly tries to do good by people!
If you are a David Morse fan, I truly recommend this for your collection. You fall in love with his character!
Product Description
Netherlands released, PAL/Region 2 DVD: it WILL NOT play on standard US DVD player. You need multi-region PAL/NTSC DVD player to view it in USA/Canada. LANGUAGES: English (Dolby Digital 2.0), Dutch (Subtitles), SYNOPSIS: Simon Grim (James Urbaniak) is a garbageman, and his life is about as unpleasant and uneventful as you'd expect given his profession; he doesn't much care for his work, he's treated with violence or contempt by most of the people in his neighborhood, and he shares a house with Mary (Maria Porter), his cranky, pill-head mother, and Fay (Parker Posey), his morally suggestible sister. One day, Henry Fool (Thomas Jay Ryan) appears; he claims to be a writer in the midst of a major project, entitled "Confessions," and needs a place to stay. Henry ends up moving in with Simon and his family, where he wastes no time in bedding both Mary and Fay, and encourages Simon to write in a journal. Simon begins to write in long torrents of words that surprisingly fall together into iambic pentameter; Henry tells Simon that what he's writing is poetry, and he's truly gifted. Simon seems dubious at first, but when several of Simon's pieces are posted on the Internet, he developes a huge and rabid following and is acclaimed as one of the great authors of our time. Henry, however, isn't able to get anywhere with his own book or his own life; as Simon's star slowly rises, Henry's orbit slowly sinks past the horizon.
