This video is the sequel to the beloved children's book and video Anne of Green Gables. It continues the story of Anne Shirley, an imaginative and headstrong young orphan in 1890s Canada, whose hot temper matches her red hair. Anne of Green Gables told of Anne's adoption by an elderly brother and sister, Marilla (Colleen Dewhurst) and Matthew Cuthbert, and her childhood adventures in the idyllic village of Avonlea on Prince Edward Island. Anne of Avonlea takes up the story soon after Matthew's death, when Anne has graduated from college. It follows her struggles and adventures as an aspiring writer and English teacher in a private school on the mainland. Girls seven and older, as well as adults, will enjoy this intelligent and beautifully made film, first shown on PBS. It's filled with themes parents can discuss with their daughters--including self-reliance, generosity, and perseverance. It also gives a realistic portrayal of the situation for women during this historical period, through characters that are multifaceted and human. Anne's struggle to find her voice as a writer, to handle difficult people maturely, to stay optimistic despite setbacks, and to nurture her students are both thought provoking and entertaining. Girls will also enjoy Anne's romantic travails, as she tries to decide between two suitors: her childhood friend Gilbert, and a rich, handsome, and mysterious widower. The film is beautifully filmed, and the costumes and settings portray an idyllic time and place. The cast is excellent. Megan Follows as the spirited Anne and Dewhurst as the gruff but tender Marilla give especially fine performances. --Elisabeth Keating

GREAT MOVIE.......2007-09-10
Anne of Green Gables, The Sequel and The Continuing story is a trilogy that all families should have in their DVD library. The music alone brings you into the story of an orphan girl who touches the lives of many and without ever complaining where she has come from, she steams her way forward and accomplishes what she wills. It also has romance as well. It teaches one how not to stay bitter and how love conquers all. Producers and Directors of today should know that it doesn't take sex and foul language to produce such fine material to scope the imagination. :)
a strong and engaging sequel............2007-08-27
This is the continuing story of Anne of Green Gables (Megan Follows) and proves to be a very strong sequel to the original film. This time, Anne is a little older and has aspirations to become a teacher, as well as a writer. This takes her away from Avonlea, in St. Edwards Island, to teach at an all girls preparatory school. She encounters snobbery as well as a handsome and influential widowed father (Frank Converse) of one of her pupils, and must deal with a very crotchety and almost sinister headmistress (Marilyn Lightstone). A more grown-up Anne must martial her strength, as well as her patience, in some very trying situations. All the while, keeping close to her heart the dear family and friends she left behind.
Megan Follows is radiant, cast as the title character. She skillfully and sensitively portrays a more mature Anne with spunk and grace. The supporting cast is wonderful, here, too, which features the legendary Dame Wendy Hiller as the cold, unfeeling and domineering old grandmother of one of Anne's students. This is a great family that viewers, young and old, can enjoy together. This is truly a wonderful film.
Anne of Green Gables - The Sequel.......2007-08-06
DVD in great shape - Megan Follows makes this story worth viewing again and again.
Excellent family movie.......2007-07-14
Makes me want to move to Prince Edwards Island. A movie worth watching often. A movie with good family values.
not as good as the first.......2007-06-01
not nearly as good as the first, but still quality family entertainment.

John G. Avildsen not only directed Rocky, he tried remaking it over the years in a dozen different ways. One of them was this popular 1984 drama about a new kid (Ralph Macchio) in town targeted by karate-wielding bullies until he gets a new mentor: the handyman (Pat Morita) from his apartment building, who teaches him self-confidence and fighting skills. The screen partnership of Macchio's motor-mouth character and Morita's reserved father figure works well, and the script allows for the younger man to develop sympathy for the painful memories of his teacher. But the film's real engine, as with Rocky, is the fighting, and there's plenty of that. Elisabeth Shue is on board as the girl the klutzy Macchio dreams of winning. --Tom Keogh
Description
A fatherless teenager faces his moment of truth in The Karate Kid. Daniel (Ralph Macchio) arrives in Los Angeles from the east coast and faces the difficult task of making new friends. However, he becomes the object of bullying by the Cobras, a menacing gang of karate students, when he strikes up a relationship with Ali (Elisabeth Shue), the Cobra leader's ex-girlfriend. Eager to fight back and impress his new girlfriend but afraid to confront the dangerous gang, Daniel asks his handyman Miyagi (Noriyuki 'Pat' Morita), whom he learns is a master of the martial arts, to teach him karate. Miyagi teaches Daniel that karate is a mastery over the self, mind, and body and that fighting is always the last answer to a problem. Under Miyagi's guidance, Daniel develops not only physical skills but also the faith and self-confidence to compete despite tremendous odds as he encounters the fight of his life in the exciting finale to this entertaining film.

Entertainment for the whole family.......2007-09-13
As a mother of boys, I am always looking out for movies about boys that will hold interest and give a positive theme. The Karate Kid is just perfect! It has a few curse words, but they ARE few. My boys range from 15 years to 6 years, and they all stayed with this one. Yes, the cheesy 80's styles and music were good for a chuckle or two, but otherwise the message is timeless. Enjoy!!
Note: My boys enjoyed the second one aw well...
Even after all these years..........2007-08-23
I loved this movie when I was a little kid and even after watching it after all this time it's still awesome. You're still rooting for Daniel to win and kick [...] and he does it! I ran around the house for days (when I was younger) doing the crane after first watching the movie. It's just classic.
Best of the bunch.......2007-08-01
The sequels were enjoyable for those who watched the original but by itself, the first is just better and more of a gem-Like Rocky movies. ''Pat'' Morita shines in this role which he's best known for around the world. Starting out a sobering and harsh figure, intimidating even as a short old man to Daniel, the young kid/fish out of water. Being bullied by the punk kids who rule the highschool and are karate experts at a local fancy dojo/martial arts school, Daniel gets Mr. Miyagi to teach him how to defend himself against his preppy but still dangerous classmates. He does this in exchange for helping the old man with his extreme makeover home edition. This leads to one of the most memorable lines of all the 80s movies. ''Wax on, Wax off''. Not to be a spoiler but after Daniel is seemingly beeing taken advantage of after hours and hours of hard labor and blowing up at the old man, intimidated as he was by him, he is in for a real surprise. The chores were all part of the training and he's now no longer defenseless. It's a cute idea that when you see for yourself comes across as natural and realistic. Good stuff Maynardsan. Now the two have a genuine bond and the movie plays out with two characters and actors that play off of each other almost like they'd worked together in some karate kid play for years. There are a lot of teacher/student karate flicks but this one was high quality, good sense of humor, good characters, good willed and like many say, a surprisingly good story to go along with the kicking and punching. Pat Morita is definitely doing a great acting job since he's far from the stern figure that Mr. Miyagi is-stern especially in the beginning of this first movie. This man was a comic in real life you know. Friends said that he played Mr. Miyagi partly based off of his own father and other people he knew of japanese descent from his dad's generation. Reportedly, his older brother saw the movie and teared up saying ''that's papa up there.'' Great actors, great script, great production. Is it on the hokey side looking back on it over twenty years later? Yeah, sure when compared to the sarcastic self-parodying stuff our tastes lean towards now...But so what? This really is one of those movies you can dig out from time to time and watch over again.
MUCH BETTER THEN YOU WOULD THINK!.......2007-08-01
I hadn't seen this film in 20 years and I am amazed at how well it has held up! Macchio and Morita give excellent performances in this "Rocky" type underdog movie for kids. The thing is, it isn't really just for kids! The uplifting story and acting ring true to anyone who was ever a "new kid" or picked on. It has made me want to re-visit the whole series!....Here we go again!
"You remember lesson about balance? Lesson not just karate only. Lesson for all life.".......2007-07-27
In 1984 Columbia Pictures released one of the best teen movies of all time. These days "teen movie" has come to imply a brainless flick about brainless characters working their way through a brainless script. (Eurotrip, anyone?) We may call The Karate Kid a teen movie only in the sense that most of its characters are teens, the concerns it addresses resonate especially strongly with the young, and yes, it has a powerful message for those approaching adulthood.
Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) has just moved from New Jersey to California's San Fernando Valley. Almost immediately he falls for rich girl Ali (and considering Ali is played by a 20-year old Elisabeth Shue, who can blame him) which brings him into conflict with a group of bad boy karate students, primarily Ali's ex-boyfriend Johnny, leading to a series of bad beatings for Daniel. As Daniel pithily sums things up, "Problem is, I'm getting my ass kicked every other day." In the real world, police would probably be called and assault charges pressed after some of the stuff these guys pull, but Daniel, young though he is, has that whole manly man, New Jersey tough guy I-don't-narc thing going, so that's a non-option.
One night during a particularly brutal beating, Daniel is rescued and his attackers soundly thrashed by an apparently unlikely savior: the middle-aged Okinawan maintenance man at Daniel's apartment complex, Mr. Miyagi. Miyagi works a deal with the karate student's arrogant, overbearing sensei: his students will lay off Daniel until a karate tournament two months hence, at which time Daniel will face them in the ring.
This leads to some of the most fondly remembered scenes, and unforgettable imagery and dialogue, in the movie as Miyagi begins to teach Daniel unarmed combat skills under the guise of household maintenance chores. "Wax on, wax off" immediately and indelibly worked itself into American pop culture. This has persisted into the 21st Century. Today, and perhaps forever, even people who've never seen this film recognize "Wax on, wax off" and "Mr. Miyagi" has become shorthand for a well-intentioned and highly skilled though somewhat pedantic and obscure person.
What The Karate Kid has going for it, more than anything else, is the chemistry between its two leads. Ralph Macchio and Noriyuki "Pat" Morita both fully inhabit their roles, as a childless father and fatherless child find each other. (Though Daniel's absent father is never explained, I suspect divorce.) Macchio was 22 when he made this movie, believably playing a mid-teen, and showed immense presence and acting chops, by turns brave and scared, stubborn and decent, with a level of good looks and talent that should have led to a more successful career than he eventually had. Pat Morita as Mr. Miyagi is just wonderful, grumping, huffing, spouting aphorisms left and right, and just generally creating an endearing, absolutely unforgettable character. Elisabeth Shue as Ali is amazingly beautiful (and, 20-plus years later, as anyone who's seen Hide and Seek can attest, gives persuasive evidence for the existence of a Fountain of Youth) and her character so sweet and thoroughly decent it's believable Daniel would fight against immense odds to be with her.
The karate tournament sequence is thrilling, although, I do have to say, the less you know about how such events work in the real world the more you'll probably enjoy it. Writer Robert Mark Kamen either knew very little about such things or chose artistic license and drama over strict adherence to fact. For instance, as badly and visibly as Daniel was limping after his knee injury there's no way on God's green earth that tournament officials would have let him compete in the final bout against Johnny. As soon as Johnny did that elbow strike to Daniel's already injured knee, he would have been not only instantly disqualified from the match but banned from the sport entirely. And so on. In this sense we just have to suspend our disbelief and go for it.
Unlike the typical teen movie, The Karate Kid, without being preachy or overbearing, has many things to say. It's about the importance of family, and that we're not limited in family simply to that we're born into - we can CHOOSE our family. It's about finding the courage to stand up for ourselves, both morally and physically. It's about the power of self-discipline and love to prevail in a sometimes violent world.

A film adaptation of Dito Montiel's memoir of the same name, A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints is a compelling, thoughtful movie based on Montiel's childhood growing up in 1980s Queens. A writer and director who understands his limitations, Montiel wisely left the acting to the pros. Shia LaBeouf (Holes) plays him during his adolescence, while Robert Downey Jr. (Good Night, and Good Luck, Wonder Boys) portrays the grown-up Dito. Never mind that there is absolutely no physical resemblance between the two actors; LaBeouf and Downey are so convincing in their roles it doesn't matter. Switching effortlessly from present day (where Dito is a successful author) to the past (where he is a tough little kid trying to figure out if there is life beyond New York), A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints tackles Dito's complicated relationship with his parents (Chazz Palminteri and Dianne Wiest), as well as the friends he left behind. Eric Roberts is magnificent in a small role as one of Dito's tough, childhood buddies. His powerful performance makes viewers remember there was a time when Roberts was better known for his acting skills than for being Julia's big brother. Montiel--a first-time filmmaker--won the Director's Award at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival for his autobiographical movie. Raw, gritty, and honest, Saints) makes a strong impact and leaves the viewer curious as to how the rest of Montiel's life will work out. --Jae-Ha Kim
Customer Reviews:
Best film in years.......2007-07-16
I really enjoy this movie. It is beautiful from start to finish. The cinematography is fantastic and the direction is very effective. I found it very entertaining and artistic. It is slightly depressing but shows honest characteristics of human interaction and existence in the everyday world. The film is full of intense dialogue between the well-developed characters that reinforces the main idea of the story. Brilliant acting by Shia Labeouf and the other young actors bring it all together. I enjoy this more and more every time I watch it. Hands down, best film I've seen in years.
More like a handbill than a guide..........2007-06-20
Dito, the teenage main character, wants to escape from his neighborhood, which is colorful but depressing and lacking in opportunity. His family and friends don't want him to leave, and exert maximum guilt to try to get him to stay. They basically want him to spend his whole life sitting on the front stoop. The narrative drama is the tension between his desire for escape and the stranglehold of the old neighborhood. And that's the entire plot of the film right there. Worse, due to a flashback sub-plot with Robert Downey, Jr. portraying the older Dito, we know all along that he does escape the neighborhood. So even that bit of dramatic suspense is tossed out from the very opening of the film. Sure, there's some local color mixed in, but it isn't nearly enough to sustain the whole work. And there are some showy cinematic techniques that do nothing to advance the narrative and seem out of place. The characters were underdeveloped and the whole film seems very half-baked.
Excellent story telling..........2007-05-13
Although this film was written and directed by the person it portrayed, it is still a work of genius. The cast, the soundtrack, the cinematography were all perfectly worked into the film. Yes this movie shows us how rough childhood is for some people, but it also shows that hope and the friendships we make will carry us through any burden. Hands down, the best movie I saw or will see this year.
A Guide to recognizing you hooribale Movie.......2007-04-30
This movie sucked if i wanted to be depressed i would of just went shopping, there nothing more depressing than not haveing money to shop with, don't get me wrong this is probably the most derpressing movie i saw. nothing happy end up in this film. Although Shia LeBaouef Did a pretty good job, but other than that the movie's a waste of time.

My Baby Can Talk - First Signs.......2007-09-11
I bought this dvd for my grandson (4 years old now) when he was a few months old and he loved it! He was so happy to be able to communicate and be understood! I just purchased it for a 5 month old I take care of and when I turn it on he watches it with great interest! He doesn't yet understand the signs but he loves watching the babies and especially the puppets! We've started teaching him the eat, milk, drink and sleep signs and I'm sure he'll be communicating with us soon! Just because babies can't talk doesn't mean they can't communicate. They are intelligent beings and signing is the perfect tool to teach them a language they understand. This dvd teaches important basics.
Learned signs very quickly.......2007-08-28
I have been trying to do baby signs with my daughter since she was about 6 months old with so so results. She knew milk and more - but I had trouble remembering to show her the signs. I decided to buy this DVD one day while at Baby's R US.
First of all, my daughter will stop what she is doing and watch this dvd. Although not often, I have even played this for her twice in a row and she will stay engaged.
Second, as a 13-month-old, she started learning new signs after watching this twice. I already purchased the second dvd and I am hopeful that I will have similar results.
The Best Purchase of All.......2007-07-26
My son is 8 months old, and we have been watching these for about two months. They are truly the best purchase I have made. I tried Baby Einstein. He didn't care for it. Too fast? No context? Not sure. But he didn't like them (I found them kind of boring, myself.) But these? He has sat still (a rare occurrence) to watch from day one. He watches with great intent, often laughs ... is totally engaged. They also work to calm him when he is fussy. He truly loves them. I love them, because he is learning language. Not just sign language. He has picked up on "milk" and "airplane" and I'm sure more will follow. We watch at least once a day, sometimes more. And, after two months, I haven't gone totally crazy listening to the same thing over and over! I came to the site looking to see if there were any others available ... just for a change of pace :) Truly wonderful products.
Update: My son in now nearing 15 months, and his language skills are, by all accounts, startling. Multiple syllables, combining words, and a pretty large vocabulary (peaches, apple, apple sauce, apple juice, tractor, engine ... plus standards like dog, car, mama, daddy, opa, oma ... and names ... the list goes on) I truly attribute this to the fact that he was introduced early, and in such an effective way, to the concept of language.
amazing series.......2007-06-14
WONDERFUL
< WONDERFUL WONDERFUL, all parents should get this for their babies/toddlers. Our daughter has just thrived on these 2 dvd's by mybabycantalk.com What a wonderful set. Get them BOTH. We only wish they would make MORE dvd's with more ASL-signing words for them to learn like this. She picked up the signs so quickly.

We're pleased with this DVD - it holds my daughter's attention and has helped her with learning signs. I'm surprised words like mom and dad are not included, and dinosaur is. But overall, my duaghter enjoys it, she is learning, and we're very happy with this purchase.

The world domination of Pokémon begets their first theatrical movie. This adventure is a little more complex and dark than the popular TV series, but kids who live for the show will gobble up this film and ask for seconds. Those baffled by the show's popularity, however, will see nothing better here. Mewtwo, a new type of Pokémon designed by scientists to be the ultimate fighter, decides he wants to rule the world and challenges all the great Pokémasters to battle. Of course, our intrepid heroes Ash, Misty, and Brock are there to tangle with Mewtwo and spoil his devilish schemes. The film is a tad more emotional than the show (that is, there is some emotion), with Ash sacrificing himself to defend his beloved Pikachu (but don't you worry, Ash will be just fine).
Would you really expect the makers of this worldwide phenomenon to radically change its winning formula? The feature is only 55 minutes long, but there's also a 20-minute short, "Pikachu's Vacation." For the Pokémon novice, this escapade will truly baffle: the narrated tale has virtually no dialogue except Pokémon speaking their names (Bulbasaur, for instance, will only express emotion by using variations of his name: "Bulba, Bulba-SAUR!"). It's a real curio. --Doug Thomas

Life lessons through cartoons.......2007-07-05
Good movie, great for the new into Pokemon fans. Also and emotional ending to help children learn about not being biased or unkind to those that are different.
I like the beginning of the movies' most, the battle scenes and seeing them besides on the games. I still get teary eyed at the end of this movie.
Mewtwo vs. Mew.......2007-07-03
I love these movie and it is the best of all the pokemon movies. It has some wonderful lessons. My favorite being why do we fight. We all share the same earth and the same sky.Just because we aren't the same doesn't mean we can't get along.Seeing Mewtwo's anger and then understanding is one of the best parts of the movie.Of course no pokemon movie would be without are favorite villians Team Rocket. So sit down, get some popcorn and watch Pokemon the first movie.
Pokemon the First Movie.......2007-06-27
Great movie for children of all ages. I watched it with my 7 year old grandson, and I enjoyed it as much as he did. When Mew appeared we all started to mimic the mew sound. My grandson paid me a compliment and said, Gramma, you do that good. I told him I had a lot of practice since I owned cats all my life. Another thing I would like to mention is how amazed I am that my grandson can name each and every one of the Pokemon characters. Well worth buying.
Sooooo Bad!.......2007-05-30
I went to sleep during the 55 minute "regular" movie, then woke up for the even worse 20 minute short vacation film with no dialogue. I often tell friends it is the worst movie (at least the most boring) that I have ever seen.
My son loves this movie.......2007-04-05
I don't "get" Pokemon; in fact, I think it's pretty dumb. However, my son LOVES Pokemon. He has video games and books; I can credit the books and the role playing games on the Gameboy with helping him along with his reading. As a present, I bought him this movie, and he has watched it many, many times and loves it. If you have a child that likes Pokemon, then this is a good gift.

The complete first season of Cartoon Network and WBTV's fine adaptation of Marv Wolfman and George Perez's '80s-era DC Comics title Teen Titans arrives in a 13-episode two-disc set. The attractive, anime-influenced episodes of the series' 2003 debut season pit the Titans--former Batman sidekick Robin, Beast Boy, Starfire, Cyborg, Terra, and Raven--against a horde of regular foes, including Slade (voiced by Ron Perlman), Trigon, Trident, Mad Mod, and many others. True to their age, the Titans also have to deal with issues about maturity, confidence, a hint of romance, and even a body-switch between two members. --Paul Gaita
Product description
The Teen Titans compose an elite group of five heroes Robin, Starfire, Raven, Cyborg and Beast Boy that unlike their Super Hero predecessors, have no secret identities under which to disguise themselves. The Titans, who live in Titans Tower, have banded together to combat their arch nemesis, Slade, and his evil minions.

Teen Titans have the power.......2007-07-23
This is a great cartoon for young and old alike. You fall in love with the characters and they do a decent job of back story for your faves.
Teen Titans.......2007-06-13
My Oppinion: This is one of the best superhero team tv showes out there it has spunk, comedy, action and loveable characters my favorite Titan is Beast Boy, whats yours? This show rocks and the first season is awesome.
About The Show: The Ten Titans are a group of teenage superheros which includ Robin, Raven, Cyborg, Beast boy & Starfire. The show is a spinoff of the late 7o's 80's comic book with a new look and attitude. The Titans fight their most frearsome foes including the ruthless slade who is The Titans arch nemises.
Don't forget to check out season 2 & 3 on dvd and also the Teen Titans Movie Trouble in Tokyo and other Titan films.
Great!.......2007-04-20
These were a HUGE hit for my teen titans niece. Highly recommend it! No commercials, lots of fun viewing time. She was thrilled and I was too.
cheap laughs.......2007-01-12
teen titans is ( in my opinion ) one of the better super hero shows , way better than justice league types , ol wonder womans a bit long in the tooth compared to raven ,
Fantastic for 8-year-old.......2007-01-10
Our 8-year-old daughter loves superheroes, and this DVD totally delights her. The characters are interesting, and there's genuinely funny parts (she laughs hysterically at some parts). Recommended to fans of Kim Possible. Teen Titans is a little more violent than Kim, but it's still age-appropriate.

Fine performances and sensitive direction keep White Oleander from being a routine tearjerker. Adapted from Janet Fitch's bestseller (an Oprah's Book Club selection), this hard-edged drama boasts a reputable cast, but 23-year-old newcomer Alison Lohman steals the film from her A-list costars. As a troubled teen whose controlling mother (Michelle Pfeiffer) has been jailed for murder, Lohman is the film's heart and soul, bouncing between foster homes and rushing toward independence in a world of disappointing adults. After surviving episodic stints with a trashy born-again Christian (Robin Wright Penn), a suicidal housewife (Renée Zellweger), and a Russian immigrant (Zvetlana Efremova), she finds comfort with another outcast (Patrick Fugit), leaving behind the mothers who failed her. Making his feature directorial debut, British stage and TV veteran Peter Kosminsky creates a showcase for formidable actresses, each given moments to shine. White Oleander lacks the emotional depth of Fitch's novel, but it speaks volumes about the delicate balance of freedom and responsibility. --Jeff Shannon
Description
White Oleander chronicles the life of Astrid (Alison Lohman), a young teenager who journeys through a series of foster homes after her mother (Michelle Pfeiffer) goes to prison for committing a crime of passion. Set adrift in the world, Astrid struggles to become her own person while coming to terms with the challenges of living life on her own.
Customer Reviews:
Read the book, skip the movie.......2007-08-12
The movie doesn't come even close to the raw truth documented in the book. If you really want to understand Astrid and the story's uplifting ending, you must read the book.
About mothers and daughters.......2007-07-04
Astrid is a young girl who lives with her mother who is an artist until her mother does something wrong is and sent to prison. Astrid is forced to live under foster care. Her first forster family is bad, her forster mother is jealous of her. Her second is better, the woman and Astrid have a great time together and bond just like a real mother and daughter. But then she dies and Astrid is back at the foster home where some dumb boy tries to be her boyfriend. She's not into him, though. Astrid has to spend her teenage years in foster homes while she makes weekly vists to her mother in jail. Her mother still tries to control Astrid's life even behind bars. She won't let Astrid grow up and Astrid starts to rebel. She dyes her hair dark, becomes goth and smokes. She tells her mother to "let her go" and that when her mother looks at her, she doesn't like what she sees. She says that she raised Astrid to think like her, but that she isn't like her mother. Her mother starts to understand and by the end of the movie, Astrid is twenty living with her boyfriend while her mother rots in jail. Astrid grew up through the tramatic youth she had, and surivied. She still knows her mother loves her, even though the audience knows her mother is really the villan and the cause of this poor young lady's problems. Alison Lohman, one of my favorite actresses, is amazing in this film and Michelle Pfeiffer plays her bad mother. Not as good as "Divine Secrets" but still entertaining.
Amazing Movie.......2007-06-11
It's a great movie. It's almost depressing though. I mean imagine going through what Astrid did. Moving from place to place without her mother which is all she's got. Haven't read the book yet, but will soon.
Such a good movie!.......2007-02-10
A haunting, draw you in, talk to people and see if they have seen it kina-movie..Its worth watching
such a serious subject matter but it feels like flipping through a glossy magazine with gorgeous skinny blondes.......2007-01-20
This movie is very easy to watch and rewatch on cable. Even in dire straits such as JAIL or foster homes, the female actresses all look beautiful especially Robin Wright Penn in the dressing room. I felt a little guilty and weirded out that this movie was such eye candy and seemed to be so glamourous when the mother and daughter were in such perilous situations. I understand that the story is about what happens to women who are both above average intelligent and beautiful.
The music cues at all the appropriate moments just like an Aerosmith song in no-acting boring action blockbusters and that really bothered me. I thought it was manipulative. I think the music was reused in a popular Korean drama to even greater effect.

Customer Reviews:
great video, but it's definitely the first.......2007-07-28
this video doesn't have the fun songs nor does it feel as put together as the later ones. Still, she loves to watch it and has learned to sign "Cat" and "ball", etc. from watching this. We love to have her watch these videos. I just wish they weren't so expensive so I could buy more of them!
Signing Times.......2007-07-09
This DVD is very good at demonstrating the signs. What it doesn't do however, is talk about how to introduce the signs to your baby. I wish there was a section that described how/when to use the signs with your baby. The DVD only shows how to make the signs.
Thrilled Grandma.......2007-07-04
I purchased this DVD for my grandson who is autistic. While not every autistic person responds to signing, my grandson does. so far, the results are fantastic! In three weeks his vocabulary has increased by nearly 50%, using both the signs and speaking the words. His parents are completely thrilled by the results. Another plus, his 2 year old sister's vocabulary has increased as well. I will eventually buy the whole set for them. Thanks so much Rachel and company!!
My toddler can't get enough of signing time!.......2007-06-23
We have had the Signing Time videos for a year and a half. We own 8 of the videos. My son loves to watch these videos, and he asks me through signing to watch them often. My husband and I use the signs during the day as well. My son started signing at 13 months. He is now almost 2. At a recent family gathering I got many positive comments on my son's use of sign language. Many people told me that they have heard of babies and toddlers using sign language, but my son was the first baby they had actually witnessed using it. I really credit Signing Time for that.
You are certainly not going to become fluent in sign language by watching these videos. You will learn signs that your child will actually use such as; milk, water, dog, cat, mom and dad. If you continue with the series you will learn many more food signs, family signs, colors, numbers, animals, and feelings. These are all common words in a toddler's vocabluary.
Also, some people have expressed concerns that children who sign may not speak. This has not been my experience. My son says the word as he signs it. I highly recommend the whole Signing Time series to anyone who wants to learn basic signs to improve communication with theri baby or toddler.
Signing Time Vol. 1 ,2 & 3.......2007-05-24
We love the Signing Time DVDs! It grabs your attention right from the beginning. The music is great and hearing the children's voices keeps my granddaughters attention. While at the grocery store, she signed apple which is not a word we taught her, she had learned it from the Signing Time DVD. I just ordered Volumes 4&5.

The Batman currently airs on Cartoon Network and Kids WB.
Customer Reviews:
Very good.......2007-05-17
I am impressed with how there is kid and adult humor in this series. I will be ordering all the seasons of this show.
No jokes from the Joker.......2007-05-01
This is the worst version of Batman that I have seen lo these many years. The villians are not themselves. And the lack of puns is lamentable. Disapointing.
Not as bad as the reviews make it sound.......2007-04-24
Well after having just finished this Season 1 double disc set, I have to admit that while many of the criticisms have been a bit harsh, there is some truth to them as well.
I know comparisons to the generally impeccable Batman: The Animated Series (TAS) have been done to death, even this show's creators admit to their own fondness and inspiration from TAS when developing The Batman.
Honestly, the animation quality of The Batman is better than I remembered from catching occasional episodes on Saturday mornings. The artistic style aims for a bit of Japanese-anime with odd (but interesting) color use. Need examples? Prepare for a fair share of green skies, crimson skies, black and white interiors etc. Fans of TAS will likely need a moment to adjust to the brighter backgrounds and more close-up angle fight scenes but it is nothing that an episode or two doesn't take care of.
The stories are pretty well told especially considering that the intended age group of this series is far lower than the more-adult oriented TAS. The problem is that the villains aren't near as well developed as they could (or should) have been.
We meet the Joker with little to no explanation of his coming to be and even less regard to his new look: Green dread locks, glowing red eyes, and an apparent dislike for shoes.
Things bottom out with Mister Freeze, who's back story is completely downgraded to a common diamond thief who has a car accident as a result of Batman's pursuit. Fair enough until you witness TAS' take on the same villain in which your heart actually goes out to the man as he's misunderstood by everyone (except Batman).
On the other hand The Ventriloquist was done with a surprising deal of class and accuracy as is Firefly, proving that there is hope for this series if the writers wish to dig a little deeper. I suppose the biggest consolation comes in the form of the reviews I've read on the Second Season where reviewers state a turn for the better regarding the issues I've just highlighted here.
I ordered all three complete seasons and will be digging into the second one tonight. I will post my thoughts when I complete it.
Give The Batman A Chance..........2007-03-17
Short Summary: This whole cartoon of the Batman saga begins at Bruce Wayne's anniversary of being Batman for three years now. It seems at this time, the 'true' villains show their faces, such as appearances by Joker, Penguin, Mr. Freeze, and even the sassy Catwoman. This show also introduces police detectives: Ellen Yin and Ethan Bennet -- Bruce's best friend!
My Opinion: I have to admit, I do like the first season, but I love the second season better. This season is more along the lines of introducing the villains and what they may do for the show (or so to speak). The stories may not be as great as Batman: The Animated Series, and such others, but this show isn't as bad as people say it to be. I think the animation in this is stunning!, but I guess it makes up for some of the lame story lines in SOME of the episodes. It also gets on my nerves when the police seem to never use their 'Star Wars blasters' to get the criminals. It's understandable I guess when you think about it; this show IS more diverted towards children around 10 years or so.
My Opinion of Great Episodes: I'm a big fan of this new animated Joker, and I basically watch his episodes over and over again (yeah, I know: pathetic). That dosen't mean there aren't still great episodes, such as the list that follows:
1. "The Bat in the Belfry" (the pilot episode, and also introduces the monkey-movements of Joker...at least for this episode)
2. "Traction" (pratically the only episode you see Bane in. Batman must find more strength if he ever wants to defeat this foe!)
3. "Big Dummy" (Batman is perplexed when he meets ventriloquist Arnold Wesker...along with his demanding dummy, Scarface)
4. "Topsy Turvy" (is there two Joker's running around, or is this all some kind of prank?)
5. "Bird of Prey" (jealousy of Bruce Wayne takes its toll on Penguin when he decides to rob the guy...while the media watch Bruce's every step!)
6. "The Rubber Face of Comedy" (Joker has a new 'chemical' up his sleeve, and decides to kidnap a certain officer and use it on him!)
7. "The Clay Face of Tragedy" (when Ethan becomes Clay Face, he takes his rage on the gruffly police cheif!)
Overall: This show may not be for everyone, but you Batman fans shouldn't judge it unless you've actually watched it. I too, was skeptical at first on watching this show, but it's not as bad as some people say it is. I mean, some stories could use a redo-over, but overall: it's not a bad show; for children or adults alike.
Great Birthday Present.......2007-03-14
My son watches The Batman on Toonami every time it is on, and asked if he could have it on DVD for his 4th birthday. The DVDs are just what he wanted, some good extras on them with a very easy to follow menu which he has no problem navigating through. This Batman series is great for the younger child (under ten) as it is not as dark story wise as other versions.

An underrated actor, Sinbad is very good in this comedy-drama about a Secret Service agent who gets the thankless detail of guarding the president's bratty son. In time, the two become touchingly close, with Sinbad's character providing the kind of surrogate fathering the boy's ultra-busy dad can't give. The plot takes an inevitable turn toward greater drama when the young man is kidnapped, but director David Mickey Evans handles the whole thing very well, and the resolution makes for fairly satisfying action. But Sinbad's presence is an agreeably warm one--though he is also quite funny and original in early sequences when the prez's son is tormenting him--and makes this film surprisingly watchable. --Tom Keogh
Description
Sinbad plays wisecracking Secret Service agent Sam Simms, assigned to protect the President's rebellious 14-year-old son Luke (THE MIGHTY DUCKS' Brock Pierce). Simms would much rather be protecting the President, and Luke would prefer to be just a regular kid without a watchdog trailing him everywhere he goes. But a genuine friendship develops between the two when Simms volunteers to teach Luke how to deal with a school bully (HOME IMPROVEMENT'S Zachery Ty Bryan), and to untie his tongue so that he can win over a cute girl in class. But when Luke's mysterious Internet buddy convinces him to ditch his bodyguard in a crowded mall, the fun and games suddenly become a matter of life and death! The votes are in from both audiences and critics -- "Sinbad is hilarious" (KNX Radio/CBS Radio) in this "laugh-a-minute" comedy (Sneak Previews).
Customer Reviews:
Luke is a very special kid.......2007-07-31
With Simms at his side, he is teaching the Luke to boxing, to dance, about girls.
Funny Disney Flick.......2006-09-01
Sam Simms (Sinbad) is an unorthodox Secret Service agent. The Secret Service assigns Agent Simms to protect the President's son, Luke Davenport (Brock Pierce of "Might Ducks"), code named Prince. Luke has managed to dispose of several previous Secret Service agents by driving them crazy, including Agent Woods (Timothy Busfield of "Thirtysomething" and "The West Wing").
The movie tries to portray Luke as a child ignored by his famous mother and father and unable to have a normal childhood. Though I empathize with Luke a little, he also generally acts wimpy. However, thirteen-year-old Luke has stirrings of normality as he gains a huge crush on classmate Katie Warren (Erin Williby in her final role) and has a run-in with the class bully. After the run-in with class bully Rob (Zachery Ty Bryan), Luke and Agent Simms begin to bond, and this movie really takes off.
Much of the movie is humorous, as it was intended to be. Most of the humor works, making this movie generally enjoyable. Sinbad steals the show, as you might expect. Sinbad mixes slapstick and one-liners that only occasionally clunk. Sinbad makes Luke Davenport look good and sparks life into the plot.
As with many Disney movies of this type, there are serious undertones. The movie becomes most serious near the end when Luke Davenport runs away from the White House and encounters a life threatening situation. Secret Service agents are in a panic as they try to locate the President's son. Fortunately, Agent Simms, just fired from the Secret Service for aiding Luke in going to a school dance, has a way of finding Luke that only Agent Simms knows about. The end of this movie is nicely plotted and enjoyable to watch.
I enjoyed watching Sinbad in this movie. Sinbad's comedy was generally fun, and he handles himself well. Most of the cast did very well. I would have replaced Luke Davenport with another actor, or would have had him perform with more confidence in school. Luke Davenport ran rings around the Secret Service and yet he was unable to keep from embarrassing himself. The plot was agreeable, with an action ending that provided a nice capstone to the comedy. There is some mild violence that generated a PG rating, but this movie should be suitable for most family members down to about age 7 or 8. Enjoy!
Awesome comedy!.......2005-07-31
Just seeing the name of this great movie brings back a great memory from 1996. At the age of 18, even though I was officially an adult, thanks to being a member of the Fox Kids Club in my area as a kid, I was able to win free tickets to see a prescreening of First Kid because I knew Sinbad's name. My girlfriend on one side and a good friend on the other, we had to travel an hour to get to the theater where the prescreening took place, but if there was ever a movie worth an hour's travel, First Kid is the one! I still remember the loud chorus of laughter, particularly when Sinbad got the bully back with the huge spitwad, and the rest of the movie had no lack of great moments either. First Kid is delightfully funny, but at the same, it has a lot of feel good moments to it, and I truly feel for anyone who hasn't seen it. Great music, great times, great entertainment for all! With First Kid, you just can't go wrong!
A Movie That Will Make You laugh Forever!.......2005-05-08
I think that this movie was very good. Sinbad is a very good actor as well as Brock Pierce. As soon as you see the first five minuites of this movie, youll never want to stop watching it. You can watch it over and over again withought getting bored.
such a great movie.......2005-05-04
Of all the movies Disney has made, this is one of their best. I really like Sinbad (he's so funny) and the music. "Pressure" to me is such a perfect fit for the movie's plot. If only they had extended the "Land of Funk" scene, because that was also pretty good. I think I'll watch it again tonight.
