Description
At the end of each school year young Morris "Mud" Himmel and his friends are unceremoniously packed off by their parents to summer camps that specialize in computer programming, military training, or calorie counting. However, this summer Morris and his clever cohorts have determined to create their own vacation haven. And with help from out-of-work high school drama teacher Dennis Van Welker (Christopher Lloyd) -- who passes himself off to each of the kids' parents as the owner of different phony theme camps -- the kids fabricate an elaborate scheme to take control of their summer. With no counselors, no rules or parental supervision, calamity prevails as the teens turn a rented group of dilapidated cabins near a leech-filled lake into the wildest, video game-filled, junk food eating and unencumbered summer camp a parent would never allow his kids to attend; in short -- the best camp in the world.
Customer Reviews:
Great movie, decent packaging.......2007-01-20
This movie was the reason I joined up with Amazon, thus, as everyone can guess, it can't be bad. Right? Right!
Let's start with the movie: it's very amusing. While there are only very few truly funny scenes (most notably the car wash scene with Cristopher Lloyd), the whole movie is lighhearted and easy going, with nice characters with whom you can identify. And altough there are a bunch of them the most important are 5: Mud, Gaby, Trish and Zach - the 4 main kids who originate the camp idea - and the adult they blackmail into helping them, Dennis. All have their quirks, all come to terms with them. And some come together in the process, which you, as the viewer, will if not love, then atleast like a lot. All in all I can say this is one decent family movie, which both the kids and the adults ought to like.
In other words - highly recommended!
Lets go to the next part - the packaging. While the extra features are few (Spanish audiotrack + chapter menu) the enhanced 16:9 transfer is excellent. You'll probably enjoy it even on a computer, as the final resolution is big enough for even 19" monitors. The sound... well, this is the only detail I can complain about - the package carries a "Dolby Digital Surround Sound" notice, which ain't true - both audiotracks, while in Dolby's format, are only stereo. But as this ain't really a movie where you can do much with surround sound then this shouldn't be a reason why to skip this release. Besides the number of channels audio is fine.
So, to take it all together: very nice movie with very good picture and more than decent audio. And while there are practically no extras it's no reason why your family shouldn't own a copy of this DVD.
Cute.......2006-01-12
It was a cute movie with not much point.. better for a day your bored. You should definatly rent this movie before you buy it.
Mad-cap family fun.......2005-10-07
A clever idea, to produce a new spin on the summer camp movie involving the kids inventing their own camp and conning their unsympathetic parents to part with the necessary cash after they've been hoodwinked by the kids' token "grown-up", Christopher Lloyd, in various guises.
Some moral lessons, lightly delivered, but the highlight of the movie is Jonathan Jackson's performance, with a young Andrew ably Keegan supporting.
The high-speed turnarounds, when the parents come visiting expecting completely different camps, provide an exciting denouement & round off a fun movie for all the family.
Very hilarious!.......2005-08-15
This movie is great. It is very hilarious and well worth your time. It is almost a five-star movie in my opinion, but I can't give it more than four because some of the scenes are just plain corny and/or ridiculous. And yes, as one reviewer mentioned, the parents are represented wrongly, in that they never suspected anything, which does not seem real.
On the other hand, that same reviewer mentioned that he did not finish watching this movie because of cursing. I seriously do not know what he is talking about. I only remember very occaisional and rather mild swearing.
All in all, this is a great movie that is definitely worth watching more than once. I definitely recommend at least renting it, if not buying it.
Great Movie.......2005-02-17
This is one of my kids favorite movies. They have watched it more than 5 times. This is a BUY.

Customer Reviews:
Entertaining.......2007-04-12
This is a great movie for kids and adults who enjoy watching suspenseful and somewhat scary movies. It is not bloody or gory and yet it keeps you on the edge of your seat. Watch it with your kids late at night.
To be honest, it's WAY BETTER than Goosebumps!.......2005-09-02
These series are WAY better then the Goosebump Series.
1. The Plot, Storyline, Setting, is more realistic
2. Acting is way better!
3. Kid Celebrities!
4. Monsters, Villians, Curses, look real!
5. Much, much, much more SCARIER!
Storie 1: 4 teenagers are forced to go in the woods of a Summer Camp Tradition to a Cabin, where legend has it, when kids go there, and they never return. The teenagers don't believe in the legend, until they meet the ghosts of another summer camp. There is part 1 and Part 2.
Storie 2: A girl moves into a new house and her little brother is acting strangley, and the girl finds a secret about her new house thats starting to terrorize her family, friends, and her life.
If recomend you BUY IT! It's worth it and it's fun to watch.
Don't Forget About This Gem.............2003-01-27
A wonderful addition to any DVD collection. R.L. Stine, the man behind the "Goosebumps" legacy, has returned with this collection of tales from his "The Nightmare Room" series. This disc features four episodes from the television series. The episodes in question are "Camp Nowhere" (Parts 1 & 2), "Don't Forget Me" and "Full Moon Halloween." "Camp Nowhere" sees Russel, Dave, Erin, and Charlotte attend Camp Hawkwood. The campfire story depicts a ghost-camp. In a routine initiation the four experience the `story' first-hand. Will they escape alive? In "Don't Forget Me" a family moves into a new house. Danielle is left to look after her brother Peter when the parents go away. To make him a better brother, Danielle decides to hynotize Peter, who then begins to act strange. Does this have anything to do with the calls from the basement or is it a hynotization gone wrong? Lastly, in "Full Moon Halloween" a rumoured werewolf is attacking people. An invite to a surprise Halloween party for five friends soon turns into a game of `Who is the werewolf?' Will everybody pass, fail, or is it all a hoax? Each of the episodes are excellently scripted and are great stories. The episodes even feature familiar faces....faces such as Amanda Bynes (Big Fat Liar), Sam Jones III & Allison Mack (Smallville), Frankie Muniz (Malcolm In The Middle), Madeline Zima (The Nanny) + a few others. In term of the special features, they are quite excellent as well. Aside from trailers from other Warner Brothers titles, an an intervew with R.L. Stine entitled "The Nightmare Files," there is a bravery test of our darkest fears in "Do You Dare," and lastly a choose-your-own-adventure type of interactive game with "The Nightmare is Yours:Sink or Swim" where you decide your fate. I recommend that this disc be picked up because the stories and features are things that people of all ages would enjoy. So please don't forget to venture into "The Nightmare Room" or else "The Nightmare Room" will venture into you! :-)
Camp Nowhere.......2002-08-27
I watched Camp Nowhere once and I really like it alot, and the part that I really liked the most is when one kid was cutting down the tree and everybody else was running from the storm to get back inside, but the camp was gone, and the people who were there were gone forever.
