Disney's 1992 animated feature is a triumph of wit and skill. The high-tech artwork and graphics look great, the characters are strong, the familiar story is nicely augmented with an interesting villain (Jafar, voiced by Jonathan Freeman), and there's an incredible hook atop the whole thing: Robin Williams's frantically hilarious vocal performance as Aladdin's genie. Even if one isn't particularly moved by the love story between the title character (Scott Weinger) and his girlfriend Jasmine (Linda Larkin), you can easily get lost in Williams's improvisational energy and the equally entertaining performances of Freeman and Gilbert Gottfried (as Jafar's parrot). --Tom Keogh

5 out of 5 stars Williams Makes This An Animated Classic.......2007-09-09

I can think of three quick reasons why this has remained one of the best animated movies ever: 1 - Very good, very catchy songs that still sound good 15 years later; 2 - excellent, colorful visuals; 3 - the unique humor of Robin Williams, who seems to spout a joke-a- second. In fact, you have to pay close attention to hear Williams' lines because they come so fast and furious. Actually, at times they are too fast. You hardly have time to laugh or digest what he just said when another line hits you. Williams' genie character doesn't appear on screen until after the first third of the film is over.

Without all those jokes - and the great visuals that go with those gags (things popping up like Saturday morning cartoons), this would just be a routine Disney animated film. Part of the normal Disney fare includes a hero who is a good guy but a liar and a heroine who is the typical wasp-waisted beauty who is rebellious against the rules of the day.

Maybe the best attribute of this film is simply how fast it moves, meaning it's very, very entertaining.

5 out of 5 stars Aladdin.......2007-09-09

Got DVD in timely matter, sooner than expected and Granddaughtr loves it. Would buy from this dealer again.

5 out of 5 stars Probably my favorite Disney movie of all time.......2007-08-23

Its always hard to choose a 'favorite' but this is probably it for me. I can't get enough of it. I've seen it probably over 100 times and it never gets old. Its just perfect in every way from the animation to the acting to the awesome songs. Every scene is a treat to watch, nothing is wasted. I even love the evil characters. It really doesn't get any better or more magical then this. Every child and adult alike should watch this.

5 out of 5 stars Classic Disney film.......2007-08-18

The "monster" genie scenes frightened our children initially when they were three years old. Now, at four, it is one of the most their frequently requested DVD's.

Watching this DVD and getting to know the Aladdin characters seemed to enhance our recent trip to EuroDisney for our children.

Definite must-have addition to the children's DVD library.

5 out of 5 stars THIS IS A FILM THAT CAN BE ENJOYED LITERALLY HUNDREDS OF TIMES.......2007-08-06

We literally wore out 3 Disney VHS editions of this film before it was released on DVD. Now several years later, our youngster watches this film just as much as ever and we enjoy seeing it with him: OVER & OVER & OVER!!

SOUNDS GREAT - LOOKS GREAT & IT'S GOT ROBIN WILLIAMS & AN EXCITING PLOT TOO!

IN A NUTSHELL: A WHOLE NEW WORLD & IT INCLUDES ROBIN WILLIAMS AS THE GENIE

This DVD release of 'Aladdin' by Disney is a treat for audiences regardless of age. It is one of the few films I can think of that both children and their parents may equally enjoy, and this Platinum Edition DVD is the best way I know to bring Aladdin into our homes.

WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT: BOY MEETS GIRL - BOY MUST BE WORTHY OF GIRL ON HIS OWN MERITS!

Jasmine is 'PRINCESS JASMINE' and she must be married to a prince before her 18th birthday, which is in three days, as the film opens. Needless to say, she is less than excited by the suitors who have presented to claim her. "Another Stuffed Shirt - Swaggering Peacock", to use her words. After deciding to runaway - without planning for any expenses or anything for that matter - she runs into Aladdin during a street market fracas caused by her lack of currency, and is saved by Aladdin from the knife point of a greedy merchant. Thinking that Jasmine was just an ordinary girl, Aladdin set his sights on her, but found it was necessary to flee from the palace guards several times with Jasmine in tow. Aladdin discovers to his chagrin, as Jasmine declares her identity to the palace guards, that she is no ordinary girl, which puts her out of Aladdin's reach.

BUT THIS IS ONLY WHERE THE STORY BEGINS: ALADDIN: "THE DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH"

Believe it or not, the film goes along happily for over 40 minutes before Robin Williams makes his entrance as the Genie. By this time we know that Aladdin must elevate his station to attain the hand of 'Princess Jasmine' - but how?

A PRINCESS MUST BE MARRIED TO A PRINCE! BUT PRINCE ALI?

Acquiring the services of the Genie for three wishes has made it possible for Aladdin to elevate his station rather profoundly by simply wishing for it. So Prince Ali is born, along with a terrific song, lyrics and video action. Unfortunately, wishing does not make one different on the inside, and this Prince Ali charade is doomed from the start. But ---- Aladdin will elevate himself and redeem the trust which Princess Jasmine was beginning to place in him, on his own merit.

THERE IS STILL MORE--LOTS MORE: ONE CAN'T JUST WISH FOR SELF-IMPROVEMENT-ASK ALADDIN

This film has a lovely story and wonderful animation, but it also has Robin Williams who gives a truly over-the-top performance as the Genie. He is the Genie and is so quick and witty and glib that audiences, regardless of age, will really zone in on his delivery. His role clearly demonstrates that one cannot simply change or improve oneself by simply wishing for it. This type of change and improvement comes from within and we go back to the theme 'the diamond in the rough'.

No decent hero can be much of a hero without a fiendish and sly villain over whom to prevail. 'Jafar' and his evil sidekick 'Iago' provide the needed balance to present Aladdin with a real obstacle. Jafar readily grabs at the chance to elevate his standing by wishing for it, and first wishes to be the Sultan, then the "most powerful sorcerer in the world" and ultimately the "all-powerful genie". This leads him down the path that Aladdin did not take and we get to see exactly what Jafar reaps in the end, which demonstrates that the only way to improve oneself is by exerting an honest effort, not just wishing for it.

IN THE END: WE GET BACK TO WHERE WE BEGAN - "A PRINCESS MUST BE MARRIED TO A PRINCE"

Aladdin must defeat Jafar on his own and in so doing may redeem himself fully in the eyes of Jasmine and her father, the Sultan.

There's an extra coat of hot wax on Pixar's vibrant, NASCAR-influenced comedy about a world populated entirely by cars. Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) is the slick rookie taking the Piston Cup series by storm when the last race of the season (the film's high-octane opening) ends in a three-way tie. On the way to the tie-breaker race in California, Lightning loses his way off Route 66 in the Southwest desert and is taught to stop and smell the roses by the forgotten citizens of Radiator Springs. It's odd to have such a slim story from the whizzes of Pixar, and the film pales a bit from their other films (though can that be a fair comparison?). Nonetheless, Cars is another gleaming ride with Pixar founder John Lasseter, who's directing for the first time since Toy Story 2. There's the usual spectrum of excellent characters teamed with appropriate voice talent, loads of smooth humor for kids and parents alike, knockout visuals, and a colorful array of sidekicks, including a scene-stealing baby blue forklift named Guido. Lightning's plight is changed with the help of former big-city lawyer Sally Carrera (Pixar veteran Bonnie Hunt), the town's patriarch Doc Hudson (Paul Newman), and kooky tow truck Mater (Larry the Cable Guy). The Incredibles was the first Pixar film to break the 100-minute barrier, but had enough story not to suffer; Cars, at 116 minutes (including some must-see end credit footage), is not as fortunate, plus it never pierces the heart. Trivia fans should have bonanza with the frame-by-frame DVD function; the movie is stuffed with in-jokes, some appearing only for an instant. Ages 5 and up. --Doug Thomas

Description

From the acclaimed creators of TOY STORY, THE INCREDIBLES, and FINDING NEMO comes a high-octane adventure comedy that shows life is about the journey, not the finish line. Hotshot rookie race car Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) is living life in the fast lane until he hits a detour on his way to the most important race of his life. Stranded in Radiator Springs, a forgotten town on the old Route 66, he meets Sally, Mater, Doc Hudson (Paul Newman), and a variety of quirky characters who help him discover that there's more to life than trophies and fame. Revved up with a sensational soundtrack, featuring Rascal Flatts, Sheryl Crow, John Mayer, James Taylor, and others, plus exciting bonus features, including the exclusive short movie "Mater And The Ghostlight," CARS is full of freewheeling fun for everyone.

5 out of 5 stars Great kids movie.......2007-09-14

Bought this for my nephew for his birthday and he loves it. It's a nice family movie though also as my husband, sister and her husband love it as well.

4 out of 5 stars Another Great Pixar Flick.......2007-09-09

Pixar has a knack for churning out movies that are great for kids, but also amusing enough that adults can enjoy them too. Cars is another great example of this.

As well, I recommend that you check out the special features and the mini documentary on Route 66. Fascinating tale of a bygone era that inspired a lot of the art of the movie.

5 out of 5 stars Can't Say Enough Good Things About This Animated Gem.......2007-09-09

Wow, this was fantastic! As I was watching it, I asked myself, "Is this the best animated movie I've ever seen?' I think the answer is "yes," at least at the time I viewed this.

After watching "The Polar Express" last year and seeing the most beautiful visuals and fabulous sound, I thought it might be awhile before anything topped that, but this movie beats it. That's because it's equally beautiful, color-wise, and more entertaining because of the excellent humor. The humor isn't just a bunch of funny lines; it's also funny sights on screen from the cars' "faces" to a lot of clever material in the background. There is so much to see that multiple viewings, I'm sure, would catch new things each time.

The characters are varied and the kind you care about, or want to find out more about, all of which translates into scenes which continually keep your interest.

The message is a nice one, too, and not delivered in any heavy-handed manner, either. Having a team to work with, people to be there to help and be helped, is better than going alone in life. Thy didn't beat us to death with it, but that is the unmistakable message in this story.

As a final note: don't turn this off when it's over; stay with the ending credits because there are some really funny comments, mostly by John Ratzenberger .

5 out of 5 stars Pixar's Best Film to Date..........2007-09-04

With thew somewhat dissapointing "Rattatouille", you may find yourself wondering "Does Pixar still have magic? Or are they being eaten by the Disney Moster?" It is a legitimate question, and one that I will answer with one word: CARS.

You may find yourself scratching your head in confusion because I say it is Paxiar's best to date, which would mean it is better than the "Toy Story" films and "Finding Nemo". The reason this claim has been made is because although "Toy Story" and "Finding Nemo" were amazing, "Cars" succeeds on a few ways that those movies do not.

Let us start with a synopsis. This movie has an extremely simple premise; a race car with the name "Lightning McQueen" (voiced by Owen Wilson" is living life in the "fast lane". He is letting life pass him by so that he can be the youngest car to ever win a Piston Cup. He is on the brink of winning it when by accident he winds up in a redneck town called "Radiatory Springs". It seems to have frozen in time, and after Mcqueen tears the roads to shreds he is sentenced to community service, and well, these simple minded people of course teach him the point lessons he has failed to learn up to that point.

The story on paper sounds mundane, but it is the visuals that are stunning (even by Pixar's standards) and the characters that bring this tale to life. What makes this movie so good is that it will touch your heart, and remind you that there is more to life than trying to succeed, and that sometimes slowing down and just taking a drive to look at the scenery is a more satisfying than winning another trophy. It is the kind of movie that children and adults alike can enjoy. It has funny and animated characters for children like "Tow Mater" (Voiced to perfection by Larry the Cable Guy), more serious characters like "Doc" that is embittered, and sober-minded.

While most these characters or characters like them are in other Pixar movies, that are just not as well fleshed out as they here. Even if we cannot agree with me on this, we can agree that the visuals here are so amazing that you will forget you are watching a "cartoon". This is one animated movie that will stand the test of time fifty years down the road and will be considered a great classic as well as a milestone in computer animation.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!!!

God Bless ~Amy

4 out of 5 stars Usual suspects.......2007-09-03

This DVD is a good quality DVD version containing several different shows on one disk. My daughter (3yrs old) loves it, and we take it with us on road trips. It is of course some of the same shows that are on TV, so your child may have already seen them, however this doesn't seem to be a bad thing from my child's point of view. She prefers to watch this DVD over, and over, and..

The Backyardigans are a group of five children who all live near each other, and all get together to play in their backyards. They join up, play in their imaginations, and then have a snack at one of their houses. If your child like singing, music, dancing, fantastic imaginative play, they will certainly enjoy this. I would recommend it for kids over 2, probably in the 3-5yr old range, as the kids talk faster than other shows (like Dora), and the words are less enunciated, so some children may have trouble understanding what the kids say.

All in all, I find myself watching this with my daughter, and enjoying it.

5 out of 5 stars My son loves the Backyardigans.......2007-08-23

My 2 1/2 year old son loves the backyardigans and there is not one episode that he can't watch. He likes the idea of the mermaids and the submarine under water. We pretty much own all the dvds and they help me to get things done.

5 out of 5 stars The Backyardigans are Back!.......2007-08-21

We love The Backyardigans in our house and can watch it over and over again. We were pretty disappointed in Movers and Shakers, but with Into the Deep, the Backyardigans are back in excellent form! All 4 episodes are fun, with catchy tunes that moms and dads will find themselves humming. Each episode ends well - no funny, abrupt endings - and my son loves the fact that one of the snacks is sushi!

Our personal top 3 Backyardigans DVDs are now:
Into the Deep
Legend of the Volcano Sisters
Surf's Up

This is a must for any fan!

5 out of 5 stars A Backyardigans medley.......2007-08-19

The Backyardigans series is one of the few children's shows that can be watched over and over again without causing involuntary twitches, nervous breakdowns or constant eye rolling on the part of adults. The five characters are extremely likeable, the episodes highly imaginative, and the selection of a different genre of music for each episode is a stroke of creative genius.

Two of the episodes on this DVD qualify for special praise in the musical department, and these are "Into the Deep" which uses Bollywood melodies, and "Catch That Butterfly" which is pure operatic brilliance. "Save the Day" is psychedelic soul and "Newsflash" is inspired by Motown music.

A summary of the four episodes on this DVD is below:

"Into the Deep" (summarized to the tune "Octopus's Garden")

Here you will see, under the sea
Tasha and Uniqua's garden in the shade
But don't go in, they'll cause a din
A little mermaids' garden escapade

Then undersea, came P and T
With their underwater plans for a movie
The girls freak out, and start to shout
But everything works out eventually

"Newsflash" (summarized to the tune "Oh What a Beautiful Morning")

There's some bright golden corn in the cornfields
There's some bright golden corn in the cornfields
The news people sigh, no newsflashes arise
When down at the farm, two guys sensationalize

Oh what a beautiful newsflash
Oh what a beautiful sight
I've got a wonderful feeling That there will be some news tonight

"Save the Day" (summarized to the tune "Pop Goes the Weasel")

Round and round the Harbor Patrol
The lady chased the whopper
The lady told them to get lost
And they couldn't stop her!

A jet ski for a sea of sharks
A chopper for a rescue
That's the way the story goes
Oh! What a whopper!

"Catch That Butterfly" (original lyrics from "Obsession" by Animotion)

I will have you
Yes I will have you
I will find a way and I will have you
Like a butterfly
A wild butterfly
I will collect you and capture you

No more needs to be said about this absolutely brilliant episode about a British bug collector and two helpful stagecoach drivers. Hi-ho old chap, I've said a mouthful here.

3 out of 5 stars Not my favorite season...........2007-09-09

"Ok, it is difficult for anyone to avoid getting stuck in a rut. My little voice was telling me that we should be doing more interesting or funny back stories. But what could I do? I was a big movie star at the time. After all, Quigley was about to come out."

I love Magnum P.I. I even have some trivia up on my web site. But the shows in seasons five and six kind of bore me. They don't have an edge to them. They're like a pasture or minister. Sure you like happy positive stories some times, but you also want to see the darker side of humanity. I think the biggest problem with this season is that the B-stories or side-stories do not have enough conflict. They're not sexy or nasty enough. For a TV show to be good, you have to have good side stories.

If you like Magnum P.I., read my book or watch seasons one through four or seven and eight. If you love, love, love Magnum then you might as well buy this one too. But I doubt you'll go to this box first when you have an itch to watch a Magnum episode.

5 out of 5 stars Another great season..........2007-06-26

This is yet another great season from the makers of Magnum PI. It is a great addition to my collection. You really need to purchase it to see for yourself.

5 out of 5 stars Best TV Show ever.......2007-05-17

Easily the best tv show ever, every episode is a delight.
I dont mind if some dont like it, but some of the reviews of this by so called fans are nothing short of insane....maybe these people cant recognise quality...let them go and watch Big Brother and find their IQ level there.

Great series, great main actors, great characters...everything is just right...cant wait to get every season on dvd...considering the 8th season is so short...why cant we have season 7 and 8 in one package?!

2 out of 5 stars Not Magnum at its finest hour, but necessary for the collection.......2007-05-15

Beginning with Season Five, the writers of Magnum P.I. began to tinker with the shows format. Something not out of the ordinary when a show reaches beyond the four season mark. While most of season five's episodes work with this new formula, season six tries to continue with this formula, but instead misses the boat more times than not. Gone are the days of Magnum swimming on the beach or hanging out at the club to meet a client. Higgins no longer bargains with Magnum for guest house privlidges, and their customary banter only happens occassionally. This was done perhaps, the emphasize the fact that Magnum was getting older, and several episodes stress the fact that he may soon want to do something else with his life. Even though Magnum is quick to point out how great Hawaii is, one can get the impression at times that he's searching for something with a little more meaning.

Overall, the tone of the season is darker and much more serious. Come to think of it, most episodes of season six are shot entirely out of Hawaii (Deja Vu, Going Home), and several episodes go by where you see no trace of the guest house or estate for that matter. Episodes like the previous two mentioned and "The Way of the Stalking Horse," are some of the year's bright spots. I give the writer's credit for trying to branch out, but Magnum's sharp decline in ratings at this time(Number 8 in 1984 to out of the top 30 by 1985) was an indication that viewers preffered the old formula, and that the show was running out of steam. All is well however, because season seven and eight revert back (for the most part) to the show's old formula. Although I have not seen all of these episodes, the one's I have (Missing Melody, Laura, Little Girl Who) are, in my opinion, some of the best of the series.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Thoroughly enjoyable.......2007-07-27

This was the first Backyardigans DVD I ever purchased. Before buying and watching this, I had heard of the Backyardigans, and they had been recommended, but as we usually have the very basic of cable, we never ran across an episode on TV.

Upon the very first viewing of "Surf's Up!" we fell in love. Heck, even the opening credits and theme song are wonderful! The characters are all adorable, and I like most the fact that unlike many shows for "children," this actually IS appropriate and pleasant.

I have watched it several times by myself, and felt no guilt in doing so. And my toddler loves every episode. The DVD itself is high-quality, and if it will work in my super-sensitive DVD player, it will work ANYWHERE!

The episodes and themes:
"Surf's Up!" - Afro-beat
"Riding the Range" - Hip-hop (and the last song is a reworked rendition of "Buffalo Gals")
"Race to the Tower of Power" - Latin Salsa (the second song is to the tune of "Three Blind Mice")
"The Quest for the Flying Rock" - Disco (The very first song is to the tune of "Hail, Hail The Gang's All Here") Also, you cannot watch the dancing in this episode and NOT love it!

Highly recommended, and perhaps the best DVD than we have seen so far.

5 out of 5 stars The Backyardigans-very cute!.......2007-06-22

I got this DVD for my two year old son. He occassionally watches the cartoon on TV but Spongebob is his thing. I was hoping he would get interested in something different. He's watched it through a few times and seems happy with it and it's a welcome relief for me to watch/listen to anything else. I recommend The Backyardigans to anyone with very young children. The color catches their attention. There is also singing and the concepts of the stories are simple to understand. I just wish the DVD was longer. It has only four different episodes on it and runs for only an hour. It's still great for the kids though!

5 out of 5 stars Four great episodes.......2007-06-15

This is one of the few Backyardigans DVDs where all four episodes are outstanding. My daughter loves the different styles of music, and she can't stop smiling and moving whenever we play this DVD. I would highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars As always-they are great!!.......2007-05-21

The Backyardigans are fantastic! The use of imagination is something people forget to do and we need to be reminded that life is fun and to just relax a little! The songs are fun, the characters are loveable, and these are videos you can actually watch multiple times without getting sick of them!!

I have been watching them all with my children and my oldest is 4. Even after 4 years I still have all the videos and will always buy more!

5 out of 5 stars Great fun to watch.......2007-04-11

Added to growing collection of these characters for my 16 month old grandchild. She loves them.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars "I made it Dad... why didn't you?".......2007-07-11

OK, so I am not the biggest Magnum P.I. fan to ever watch the show. Sure, I liked it when it was on... but come 1984, my interests shifted over to MIAMI VICE... and they never returned. Oh I still watched.. but to be completely honest, I never really cared that much if the show was on or not.

But...

When the Season Four premier episode entitled HOME FROM THE SEA first aired on 29 September 1983, I - like many other viewers - was treated to one of the most moving episodes of the entire Magnum P.I. series. I must admit that I only ever saw that episode one time... on the day it first aired... but it stuck with me for over twenty-three years. HOME FROM THE SEA was the only episode from the entire series that I vividly remembered for all of that time. It was the one episode that I told anyone and everyone about. It was the one episode that I tried and tried to catch when the show went into syndication. I never found it. So when Universal started releasing the series on DVD, I searched and I waited.

I purchased this boxed set FOR THAT EPISODE AND THAT EPISODE ONLY. And that episode alone warrants the five star rating. I cannot stress enough the impact this one show had on my psyche. I simply never stopped thinking about it. Just watch it and you will understand. I cried and so did my Wife.

I am sure that I will enjoy watching the rest of Season Four, and that may even cause me to want to buy some of the other Seasons. But all I really wanted is HOME FROM THE SEA, and now I have it. It only took twenty-three years for me to find it. I doubt if even Thomas Magnum could tread water for that long. If you are even remotely a Magnum P.I. fan, this is the Season you want because this is the Season with HOME FROM THE SEA.

FROM www.tv.com:

It's the 4th of July, and Higgins is playing in a polo match, T.C. is taking his baseball team to a professional game, Rick is out with his latest girlfriend on the King Kamehameha II yacht, and Thomas is observing his annual Independence Day tradition of a solitary day at sea -- until his surf ski is capsized in the wake of a recklessly driven speedboat and set adrift. Carried off further and further away from land by the powerful Molokai Channel, Thomas relies on childhood memories of his father's training him to tread water to keep himself afloat as he struggles desperately to stay above water and fend off a menacing shark. As the hours pass, Higgins, T.C. and Rick each have a sixth sense that Thomas is in trouble, and they team up to rescue him. Thomas approaches the twenty-four hour mark in the water recalling his wedding to Michelle and his father's burial -- on July 4, 1951 -- as Higgins scoops him out of the ocean, with T.C. in his helicopter overhead and Rick on the yacht nearby.

5 out of 5 stars Magnum P.I. - The Complete Fourth Season.......2007-06-28

Being Magnum fans I purchased the first four seasons as an Anniversary gift for my husband. We are really enjoying the DVD's.

We had them for a few days when a storm caused us to lose power off and on for 3 days...thankfully I had 3 of my four hour batteries charged for our compact DVD player. We spent 4 hours the first night of the storms watching Magnum. We had forgotten that the theme music had been changed, kind of strange at first.

We have been very happy with the quality of the DVD's so far and are anxiously awaiting for season 7 and 8 to be released.

4 out of 5 stars Cheesy from Childhood, But Still Golden.......2007-03-20

How is it that Tom Selleck is still so appealing, despite the clunkiness of an 80s sitcom? It's a cheesy 80s sitcom. But Tom Selleck still makes it appealing.

1 out of 5 stars Spoiled by DVD Quality.......2007-02-10

As previous reviewers have said, 5 stars for the show, and 0 for the DVD's. 3 episodes in my set had serious problems. Thank God Season 5's discs are not double sided. Hopefully, they will be better.

Amazon.com

The 1987 debut season of the wildly popular Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' first animated TV series finally arrives in its entirety on this single disc. And while it's a pleasure to have these long-unavailable episodes in DVD format, the set's lackluster presentation and paltry extras also make it a disappointment for those hoping for a more expansive release. Volume One contains the five-episode "miniseries" that comprised the debut season and explained the Turtles' origins; the episodes are presented with opening and closing credits, though offered as single chapters on the disc. The "bonus" material is four episodes from the series' tenth and final season, which were largely unseen in the U.S. (though some U.K. viewers may have caught them). While interesting from a completist perspective, their inclusion clashes somewhat with the first-season episodes, as the series' look and tone had changed considerably by this point. And when combined with the disc's overall lack of quality picture and sound (video masters appear to have been used), Volume One represents something of a missed opportunity for TMNT fans; however, having the first season on a single disc may be an acceptable trade. --Paul Gaita

5 out of 5 stars Original and Great Ninja Turtles.......2007-07-23

This DVD was even better than expected. Its starts with the very 1st episode and explains how the turtles became ninjas. Love it, brings back my childhood, perfect DVD. :)

I was surprised and pleased to find this on amazon, as I haven't seen the series since I was little. I used to watch it every afternoon after school. Brought back some memories.

5 out of 5 stars Ahh, childhood.......2007-05-12

I'm glad I was able to find this. I enjoyed every episode and look forward to getting more. I am happy to say that I was not disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars An absolute classic cartoon revived on DVD!.......2007-04-15

I grew up watching TMNT, and was delighted when the DVD release of the original series was announced.

This release features the entire first season from 1987. This can be a little misleading, as the first season only consisted of 5 episodes: "Turtle Tracks", "Enter the Shredder", "A Thing About Rats", "Hot-Rodding Teenagers From Dimension X" and "Shredder and Splintered". Over the course of these episodes, we see many Turtles favourites introduced; Shredder, Krang, April O'Neil, Bebop and Rocksteady, even minor characters like General Tragg that were known best for their action figure counterparts!

To compensate for the short first season, a bonus four episodes from 1996's Season 10 (which never made it to British TV screens) are included: "The Beginning of the End", "The Return of Dregg", "Monster From Dimension X" and "The Day the Earth Disappeared". While these episodes are quite interesting to watch from the perspective as someone who only saw the first couple of seasons of the show as a child, they don't have the same magic that the old episodes had; the animation looks a lot cheaper, like many modern cartoons, and much of the humour from earlier episodes is absent.

Unfortunately, there are no documentaries about the cultural impact the show had or anything along those lines, which would have been very interesting. The only bonus features are the extra episodes.

I personally hadn't seen the first couple of episodes until buying this set, since the craze reached my school a few episodes in. An interesting note about the first season is that the episodes follow a linear storyline, and the episodes are sequential (some taking place directly after the events at the end of the previous episode).

The DVD picture quality is good. The quality is crisp, considering it is a cartoon from 1987. Some imperfections can be seen fairly frequently, though this is probably due to the age of the cartoons and the quality of the original broadcasts and not due to poor production values, as the 1996 episodes are much crisper quality. Sound has the slight imperfections that you'd expect from a cartoon from the 80s, and is completely listenable.

Menus are excellent, featuring great airbrushed art very typical of original Turtles merchandise and artwork from the late 80s and early 90s.

The DVD comes in a case within a foil-enhanced cardboard sleeve featuring some great artwork of the Turtles emerging from the sewer in the airbrushed glory of 1980s, cartoon New York. This is the most attractive of any of the DVD releases so far. Artwork quality on subsequent releases decreased significantly.

A fantastic trip down memory lane, and well worth the price!

5 out of 5 stars TMNT Rules!.......2007-04-06

I love Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and grew up watching them every Saturday morning. I think they are the reason for my fascination with ninjas. Anyways these episdoes are classic and I somehow remember them from almost 20 years ago. If you are a big fan like me this is definitely worth adding to your DVD collection.

Doris Day, the perky, chaste adult star of an odd collection of winking 1960s sex comedies, takes the Irene Dunne role in this remake of the comedy classic My Favorite Wife. As the survivor of a five-year ordeal on a desert island, she returns home the very day her husband has remarried. James Garner, trading his Maverick impish humor and con man cool for a mugging performance of double takes and pratfalls, is her overjoyed husband who is too cowardly to tell his neurotic bride (Polly Bergen). All of this, naturally, leads to a ridiculously complicated plot that combines door-slamming sex farce with mistaken identities (Day poses as a Swedish masseuse) and a goofy sped-up car chase. Chuck Connors, who costars as Day's hunky, he-man island mate "Adam," leads a topnotch supporting cast that includes sassy Thelma Ritter as Garner's no-nonsense mother, Don Knotts as a nervous shoe salesman enlisted by Day to impersonate Adam, Fred Clark at his indignant best, and John Astin and Pat Harrington in early roles. Edgar Buchanan practically steals the film as a gruff, irascible judge who growls through the legal circus that forms the film's chaotic climax. The cast for the most part rises above the tepid script and bland direction and Day sings two songs. Interestingly, this remake was originally developed for Marilyn Monroe and Dean Martin as the never completed Something's Got to Give. --Sean Axmaker

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Movie - Don't Miss this one on DVD!.......2007-09-11

The studios did a wonderful job in restoring this classic movie. It's always been a favorite, but the restoration made it all the better. In my opinion this is one of Doris Day's best comedy movies ever!!! The car wash scene is the best in the movie!

5 out of 5 stars A Doris Day Fan.......2007-09-01

The chemistry between Doris Day and James Garner is just as good as, if not better than, the chemistry Doris had with Hudson. This is another example of fine classic comedy filming at its best. It is funny, entertaining, and romantic. And, once again, it's all done without the insane use of profanity and the extended, over-indulgence of sex.

5 out of 5 stars One of my favorite Doris Day movies........2007-08-11

If you like Doris Day, this is one of the most enjoyable. In my opinion she should have made more movies with Garner. This is a fun movie.

5 out of 5 stars Great Movie.......2007-08-03

I saw this for the first time at the theater, and have loved it ever since. One of my favorite Doris Day Movies.

4 out of 5 stars Love it!.......2007-07-30

This is one of my top 3 favorite "oldies"... along with its original version, "My Favorite Wife", and the unsung "Vivacious Lady" with Ginger Rogers & Jimmy Stewart (which is my #1 pick).

Move Over, Darling is classic Doris Day: it's good, light-hearted fun! I would categorize it with "the thrill of it all" and "send me no flowers".

I don't know what else to say: I just recommend it, especially if you are already a Doris Day fan. You will be pleased! :)

A ratings hit for eight seasons on CBS, the action-mystery series Magnum, P.I. makes its DVD boxed set debut in an impressive five-disc package that offers not only the entire first season, but some rarely seen episodes. Positioned in the old Hawaii Five-O time slot (Thursdays at 9) in December of 1980, Magnum quickly became a hit, thanks to the combination of smart and witty scripting, gorgeous locations, and the considerable charm of lead Tom Selleck as former Naval Intelligence officer Thomas Magnum, who gives up his position to become a private investigator on Oahu with the help of fellow Vietnam vets T.C. (Roger E. Mosley) and Rick (Larry Manetti). Magnum also provided security for the lavish estate of wealthy (and never-seen) mystery writer Robin Masters, which gave him access to the author's expensive vehicles (including a prized Ferrari), much to the disapproval of Masters's manservant Higgins (Jonathan Hillerman).

A rare series that skillfully blended action, humor, drama, and suspense, Magnum, P.I.'s first season gets the boxed set treatment its fans have been hoping for, with all 18 first-season episodes (including the two-part pilot, "Don't Eat the Snow in Hawaii") included on four discs. The fifth disc contains four rarely shown bonus episodes, including season 3's "Ki'ls Don't Lie," which featured a crossover plot with Simon and Simon, as well as its conclusion ("Emeralds Are Not a Girl's Best Friend"), which kicked off S&S's second season; the latter episode has never been aired as part of Magnum's syndicated package, which is another reason for fans to pick up and enjoy this long-awaited set. --Paul Gaita

    4 out of 5 stars Magnum P I season 1.......2007-08-13

Well if you loved the TV series how can you go wrong with this? It is so campy and the first episode is so good ("Don't look at the dogs work the lock. You looked at the dogs!").
If you love Magnum this is well worth the money.

    5 out of 5 stars Magnum, P.I. - The Complete First Season.......2007-06-28

5 out of 5 stars Great start to a great series!.......2007-04-21

I really forgot how good some of those first season early episodes were until I bought the season 1 DVD. "Skin Deep" is probably the most entertaining episode of the series. Other standouts are "China Doll" and "J "Digger" Doyle". What I enjoyed most was the 1982 crossover episode as the featuring Gerald McRaney and Jamison Parker from Simon and Simon from season 2. Also the Simon episode "Emeralds are a girls best friend" and although not as big a fan of later seasons, the 2 part season 5 opener w/ a young unknown Sharon Stone playing a psycho...big surprise there. I found it neat with the discoesque theme song for the first 10 episodes too. You could see how the 4 main characters found their niche as the season progressed.
