Not really a movie or documentary, The Secret is more of a video seminar, a presentation featuring a series of authors, philosophers, doctors, quantum physicists, entrepreneurs, and spiritual practitioners expounding on the powers of The Secret (probably the most well-known of the presenters is Jack Canfield, author of Chicken Soup for the Soul and The Success Principles). What is The Secret, exactly? "That principle can be summed up in three simple words: thoughts become things," proclaims writer Mike Dooley, author of Notes from the Universe. Put it another way, it's The Power of Positive Thinking and how it can be applied to attracting more money, better health, and relationships; in short, happiness. (There is a rundown of topics on the DVD Chapters menu).
Most of the material here is given in a straightforward manner, with the presenters simply talking into the camera to address the audience directly, which is good because it avoids the trap of pretense. On the other hand, the quick edits between presenters (would it hurt to let them say more than one sentence at a time?) don't help because it reduces many of their points to palatable sound bites and aphorisms. To many viewers, this may make the program come across as a series of nice ideas not rooted in reality. Plus it's somewhat spurious to claim that The Secret was well understood and practiced by specific individuals like Plato or Shakespeare (it's well known that some of the historical figures noted didn't exactly live happy or even prosperous lives, despite their achievements). But still, the primary message is one of positivity and hope for everyone. So what to make of it? In the end, programs like this generally find an audience that is open to the message, and many will probably find it to be a source of inspiration. Others will approach it with a good deal of skepticism or dismiss it as another way of marketing happiness the masses. It simply won't resonate with everyone, but if it resonates with you, you're likely to enjoy it and get a lot out of it. Those looking for more on The Secret might want to check out the companion book by Rhonda Byrne. --Daniel Vancini

The Secret: Movie synopsis and opinion.......2007-09-14
The Secret (Extended Edition)
The Power of Your Subconscious Mind
Basically it breaks down like this "Like attracts Like". You attract to you what you put out type thing. This movie tries to explain how to use this on a conscious level for achieving what you want in your life instead of attracting what you don't. I love this movie, I love the idea behind this movie. I find it very empowering.
Yes, the movie does emphasize a bit on wealth and gain, however it also speaks of using it (the secret) in Health and Relationships, how it can apply to anything and anyone. I love that idea, maybe the people just need a little faith in something other than themselves. I think of this movie as a gift for the masses, just think it we could all get ourselves together long enough to do something on a deeper level. Also check out "The Power of the Subconscious Mind by John Murphy", it's been around since the 60's. Good luck and keep an open mind.
It is not my secret........2007-09-14
I do not hate this movie as some do. It simply does not direct me to the things I seek. It is a movie about being successful. As such, it succeeds.
Yet, having said that, I nevertheless think it is a little misleading. Is there really a secret to getting things? Perhaps there is. But, whatever the secret is, it is much more complicated than setting intentions. And for those who live in poverty, positive thinking is often a foreign language.
If you are born into a rich family, one which values financial success, and you are taught to succeed; then you will probably be successful. Being positive will come easily to you. If on the other hand, you are born into a poor family, one which struggles to survive, and you are taught to struggle; then you will probably not be successful. Being negative will come easily for you. This is not a secret. It is harsh, but true I think.
Of course, there are exceptions. There are those who succeed despite all obstacles of birth and circumstance. And it is to those many individuals desiring to be exceptions that movies such as "The Secret" aim.
And there's nothing wrong with being successful. There was a comedian once who said, more or less, "I've been rich, and I've been poor, and believe you me rich is better." I think it was Joe E. Brown who said that, and I agree with him. While I have never been rich, I have been poor. And I did not like it. Making ends meet took all my time. I was too tired to meditate, too tired to read nourishing books, and too tired to spend time with those I loved. But I was not too tired to worry.
Nor is there anything wrong with being positive, or setting intentions, or manifesting what you think you want. This is much better than being negative, not setting intentions, and manifesting what you think you do not want. The former typically results in a better life.
But beyond having enough money to live well by my own standards, which does not include a fancy car or a huge house, I do not aspire to greater riches. My mind, or at least my mind as I know it, simply cannot take me to the place I seek. I seek a place of inner tranquility. I cannot manifest this place through positive thinking. Nor can I manifest it through setting intentions.
But for those who live one step above poverty as they send children to college, pay mortgages, and work hard; this may be a good movie for them. Life can be hard, and people need hope. And if movies such as this can give hope, then that is a good thing. I truly hope this movie inspires and uplifts all who see it. But I also hope that all who see it understand that there is more than this to life.
You know, though, come to think of it, a chauffeur would be nice, and maybe a maid or two, and a cook. Then I would need a mansion. And I suppose I would need a sailing yacht to get away from all my servants. And I'd need a captain because I don't know how to sail. I suppose I would have to have a few pretty girls in bikinis to lounge on the deck, like in the movies. But I'm married. So maybe I should get a dog instead. This being rich business is harder than it looks!
Thank you, John C. Conley, author of "Letters to My Friends: A No Guarantees Guide to Awakening."
Defending The Secret.......2007-09-14
To appreciate The Secret, you have to have an open mind to watch it. If you are "the glass is half empty" kind of person, you will only point out the flaws in this movie, because that is what you do in life. Sure you can search for the meanings and blessings, but you don't think you can change the situation. There IS evidence of mind-over-matter, but if you aren't open to the concept, you will think it's a hoax. The movie doesn't say you don't have to work for something, they say you DO have to take action, you can't just visualize it. It makes sense that if you want out of debt, you should focus on words such as financial freedom versus debt-free. The latter still focuses on debt. I watched the movie two weekends ago and I have been practicing positive images and the feelings associated with having financial freedom, etc. (even driving the car). Guess what - I have used my credit card very little and paid off $7,000 of debt last week and have another $6,000 planned to pay off next week. Oh, I also got a check in the mail today and have received 3 unexpected business referrals in the past 10 days. After struggling with my credit card debt since college (15 years),this movie has helped me change my thinking and I believe I will be out of that debt (and maybe have my car paid off)by the end of the year. Many people don't want to take responsibility for their situation, so instead blame others. That way, you don't have to try and change it because "it's out of your control".
By the way, sickness CAN be healed, but like the movie says, you can't change others, only yourself.

Smallville is still the best........2007-09-11
I just discovered this series last year and now it's probably my favorite show on T.V. When a co-worker told me it was his only "can't miss" show I rented Season One. I was totally hooked and now OWN every season.
Since I watched the whole series in order, the character/plot progression has been fascinating. The relationships and character development really MAKE the show.
Lex and his slow slide to the dark side is more interesting because we see how it happens... how twisted and tragic his upbringing was. Clark's rich relationship with his parents is such a great contrast to Lex and Lionel, (I really missed Johnathan) and his growth toward his "destiny" has been so real (relatable even) and compelling.
Smallville has put it's own unique spin on Clark Kent/Superman and that's ok... In fact, it's been great. It seems like some people are so obsessed with the "Superman myth" they know, that they can't let go and enjoy... Too bad.
It's been a great ride and I want to see where THIS story goes. Clark and Lana have so much on screen chemistry that I'm halfway expecting my T.V. to start smoking every time they're in the same room! Wanting to see them get together STILL keeps me watching. At this point, it's going to be a tragedy if they DON'T wind up together... and knowing the way that Superman's story is "supposed" to go... It's really TOO BAD.
Chloe is a great character that is also unique to Smallville and I love her as Clark's "sidekick" and hope she continues to develop. Lois... is an interesting character too, but as Superman's future soul-mate, she's weak. Clark's relationship and SMOKING HOT chemistry with Lana is so much stronger, I'm really not feeling it with Lois at all. Which is is ok... because this is another unique "take" on the story.
But I'm sure at some point they will feel compelled to force these characters into their traditional roles and I'm not sure how they will get there from here.
Having to stomach seeing Lana with Lex was difficult in season six, but I can't think of one episode that I didn't want to watch again. There are very few T.V. series I can say that about.
It gets a "meh...".......2007-09-09
Smallville is the only television show that I watch on a regular basis that is still on air. Seeing as that is the case, it would be nice if the episodes and characters were consistent. This is sadly not the case in season 6. While there were some very, VERY good episodes in this season ("Zod," "Justice," and "Promise" ["Promise" actually got me to the point of tears it was so good] being the ones that stick out) the rest of the season was lackluster at best. I loved the episodes featuring the Green Arrow - they brought a much-needed alternate perspective of right and wrong, and were just plain cool (nice outfit, man). Other than those few nice episodes, the rest seemed to be repetitive and similar to the "freak-of-the-week" episodes of the terrible first season. I have to say the most dissapointing aspect of this season was the unbelievable, often sporradic character of Lana Lang. She seemed to change from episode to episode, with no real justice to the Lana I used to love from previous seasons. There was also the introduction of Jimmy Olsen who is played by Aaron Ashmore. The acting on his part wasn't too bad, but it seemed that his relationship with Chloe seemed forced at times, and the fact that he only showed up when the writers were in need of a love triangle situation made him seem like a poorly used plot device rather than a fully developed character. The dialogue often caused groans to erupt in the room (from myself AND friends who watch it with me). The poorly developed plot and horrible guest stars (sorry to say, but let's face it, pro-wrestlers aren't great actors and we have TWO this season...) and the hardly bearable change in characters in this mainly character-driven show made this season one of the worst in my opinion. The good episodes were good enough to keep me watching, but the rest either had me laughing at the ridiculous situations and dialogue or groaning at the repitition of it all. All in all, the good ones were really good, the bad ones were really bad, and it just seems to me that there were more bad ones than there were good ones. I still love Smallville, I just really hope that the next season has a little bit of consistency to it...
I love this show.......2007-09-06
I have to stop myself or I will watch it straight through in one weekend.
Naysayers beware.......2007-09-03
Season Six is such a great season. The emotional struggle within the combination of characters from green arrow to aquaman, cyborg, impulse is just the tip of the iceburg. instead of trying to put all eggs in one basket keep in mind that smallville is a show of gradual evolution.
Continues to Entertain.......2007-09-02
I, for one, enjoyed Season 6 and after reading some of the reviews, my own take on it is probably in the minority amongst the reviewers if not the general fans.
While the Justice League material was interesting and I thought the Green Arrow was a particularly strong character with strengths and flaws, I always have enjoyed Smallville for the relationships of the major characters: Clark, Lana, Lex, Chloe, Martha, Lionel, etc.
I'm definitely not one of these Lana haters as I don't mind declaring Lana is by far my favorite in the show. I do agree with the criticism I often see of her being written as quite slow on the take but unfortunately everyone seems to be blind when it comes to figuring out Clark. How long did it take Chloe? And she was shown Clark catching a car to finally get it. At least Lana figured it out on her own with a clever plot to catch Tom in the act. And Lois, clueless as ever.
I personally think the acting in the show is fine, all the major characteers are well played, it is an ensemble cast that goes well together. I do miss Jonathan Kent but understand why it was a good series move to have such a major life changing event in Clark's progression to Superman someday.
Did the major characters progress further during Season 6 - you bet they did. Clark is now firmly locked onto Lex as his major enemy and continues to see what his future life is going to be like, defending good against evil at the expense of his personal life. Lex really advanced into the evil stage, I loved Michael Rosenbaum's masterful take on it all. Lana has finally found out the truth and she responded like most people thought she would of all along (except Clark). She accepted Clark for what he is, regardless. She has now stood up to Lex. I'm sure she isn't dead in the explosion, they've resigned Kristin Kreuk afterall for the upcoming season. To me, the show would not be the same if Michael and Kristin are no longer in it. If Season Seven is the last, I hope they really do a fireworks last season ride!
For some of these people who rant so much against the show, why don't they watch something else then. Am I happy about everything in the show, no way. But I will continue to stay tuned and enjoy it for all it's many good things.
Can't wait for Season Seven!
Is Season Six worth buying? I ordered it, I sure think it is.

"I bought a car. Turned out to be an alien robot. Who knew?" deadpans Sam Witwicky, hero and human heart of Michael Bay's rollicking robot-smackdown fest, Transformers. Witwicky (the sweetly nerdy Shia LaBeouf, channeling a young John Cusack) is the perfect counterpoint to the nearly nonstop exhilarating action. The plot is simple: an alien civil war (the Autobots vs. the evil Decepticons) has spilled onto Earth, and young Sam is caught in the fray by his newly purchased souped-up Camaro. Which has a mind--and identity, as a noble-warrior robot named Bumblebee--of its own. The effects, especially the mind-blowing transformations of the robots into their earthly forms and back again, are stellar.
Fans of the earlier film and TV series will be thrilled at this cutting-edge incarnation, but this version should please all fans of high-adrenaline action. Director Bay gleefully salts the movie with homages to pop-culture touchstones like Raiders of the Lost Ark, King Kong, and the early technothriller WarGames. The actors, though clearly all supporting those kickass robots, are uniformly on-target, including the dashing Josh Duhamel as a U.S. Army sergeant fighting an enemy he never anticipated; Jon Voight, as a tough yet sympathetic Secretary of Defense in over his head; and John Turturro, whose special agent manages to be confidently unctuous, even stripped to his undies. But the film belongs to Bumblebee, Optimus Prime, and the dastardly Megatron--and the wicked stunts they collide in all over the globe. Long live Transformers! --A.T. Hurley

***BEST MOVIE OF SUMMER 2007****, and the HD v Blu-ray thing is gettin real tired.......2007-09-14
GREAT Movie.....no Desertation from me, i think previous posters said it best........And the HD v Blu Ray thing is dumb, whoever owns the loosing format, HUGE waste of money cause it will become obsolete.....people should hold off thill there is a winner
and back to the point TRANSFORMERS ROCKS!!!!!!!!
Best film of 2007.......2007-09-14
wow this movie is without a doubt the best one this year, and to think that I was determined not to go watch it as it looked like yet another film Jam-packed with special effects and with no worthy story. boy was I wrong because the movie has soo much going for it that one tends to forget about the special effects and concentrate in how amazingly funny Shia is in this movie, plus it has it all; action, romance, humor and honestly what more could we ask for specially now when the majority of the movies that come out each year are mediocre. a breath of fresh air in a year where the only other movie worthy of watching was 300.
NOT ON BLU-RAY!!!.......2007-09-14
What the hell!!! I cannot believe Paramount. This is the most absurd thing I have ever heard of. DO NOT BUY THIS HD-DVD because it is just going to prolong this stupid war between Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD. Not everybody has the extra money to own both HD Disc Formats.
These punks are only thining about the money and not about what the consumers can afford now a days. This is ridiculous. I hope whoever reads this will not buy this until it comes out for all formats.
One of the BEST summer movies.......2007-09-14
I don't know about anyone else, but I have become addicted to this movie.
I have seen this movie four times, and each time is like the first time; INCREDIBLE, EXCITING AND NEW. And if it was still playing at the movies in my area, I would pay to see it again and again. It is just that good. This movie, along with Bourne Ultimatum are the movies to see. I will tell you why I enjoyed this movie as much as I did. The cybernetic organisms came across as real beings and all the humans involved were not a side issue. They were not stereotypical nor over the top. The screenplay and direction worked hand-in-hand to make sure that they were in harmony with each other. (You can credit Steven Spielberg with that.) The scenes were appropriate, with many of them being actually very funny. I and many others actually laughed hard at the genuinely funny lines and situations. All this and more was the magic of the cartoon Transformers, and the animated feature (1986), and I hope with the sequel (hint at the ending credits) that it will be even more loyal. With the Transformers, there are many stories to tell, but they must be told WELL, something even the cartoon sometimes failed to do, at times. This movie told a larger-than-life tale EXTREMELY well.
There was only two cheesy moments (ie Megan Fox) and my only two disappointments are that Sam should have been SPIKE, his father is SPARKPLUG and Spike's girlfriend should have been CARLY.
Anyway, I have put in my pre-order for the actual score and the HD DVD two-disc version. (By the way, Shia, you are wonderful. It is because of your acting in Transformers that I went out and bought Disturbia. I saw you in the Greatest Game. I didn't recognize you; my how you've grown. Good acting there, too. First class job! If they do an animated series, would you please consider doing the voice for Sam?)
Love to all.
It kills time.......2007-09-14
Transformers was a movie with some interesting special effects and CGI, but the script was pretty boring and I never felt like I could really sympathize with the characters because they seemed so driven by a plot. A lot of the characters were also "types" instead of feeling very real. It had an interesting 80's feel to everything though, and that was kind of fun.

Like Sin City before it, 300 brings Frank Miller and Lynn Varley's graphic novel vividly to life. Gerard Butler (Beowulf and Grendel, The Phantom of the Opera) radiates pure power and charisma as Leonidas, the Grecian king who leads 300 of his fellow Spartans (including David Wenham of The Lord of the Rings, Michael Fassbender, and Andrew Pleavin) into a battle against the overwhelming force of Persian invaders. Their only hope is to neutralize the numerical advantage by confronting the Persians, led by King Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro), at the narrow strait of Thermopylae.
More engaging than Troy, the tepid and somewhat similar epic of ancient Greece, 300 is also comparable to Sin City in that the actors were shot on green screen, then added to digitally created backgrounds. The effort pays off in a strikingly stylized look and huge, sweeping battle scenes. However, it's not as to-the-letter faithful to Miller's source material as Sin City was. The plot is the same, and many of the book's images are represented just about perfectly. But some extra material has been added, including new villains (who would be considered "bosses" if this were a video game, and it often feels like one) and a political subplot involving new characters and a significantly expanded role for the Queen of Sparta (Lena Headey). While this subplot by director Zack Snyder (Dawn of the Dead) and his fellow co-writers does break up the violence, most fans would probably dismiss it as filler if it didn't involve the sexy Headey. Other viewers, of course, will be turned off by the waves of spurting blood, flying body parts, and surging testosterone. (The six-pack abs are also relentless, and the movie has more and less nudity--more female, less male--than the graphic novel.) Still, as a representation of Miller's work and as an ancient-themed action flick with a modern edge, 300 delivers. --David Horiuchi
Description
The epic graphic novel by Frank Miller (Sin City) assaults the screen with the blood, thunder and awe of its ferocious visual style faithfully recreated in an intense blend of live-action and CGI animation. Retelling the ancient Battle of Thermopylae, it depicts the titanic clash in which King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) and 300 Spartans fought to the death against Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro) and his massive Persian army. Experience history at swordpoint. And moviemaking with a cutting edge.

300............AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!.......2007-09-14
300 IS AWESOME FOR A WARRIOR MOVIE, THE BEST I'VE EVER SEEN!!!! I RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE THAT LIKES A TRUE WARRIOR MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!
On a scale of one to ten . . . 300!!!!!.......2007-09-13
I love a film that excites, entertains, educates, and motivates me. 300 does ALL that.
The action is all first-rate. The battle is epic, graphic, and emotionally charged. I was entertained for the entire length of the film as both the action and the actors are outstanding. Hopefully, Gerard Butler, The Phantom of the Opera, finally gets the recognition that has so far unfairly eluded him and the same could be said for the equally under appreciated David Wenham (The Lord of the Rings and Van Helsing). It is rare to find such compelling acting and actors in a war film such as this (consider the rather weak, but still entertaining Troy).
While I am well aware that this is a fictionalized account of a true event, it did realistically recreate the era. I am a student of the ancient Greek culture as I teach Homer's The Odyssey to my 9th grade Honors English students and I can say fairly that this film really got it right. In addition, certain aspects of the film educated me on things about the era I was unaware of and, thus, motivated me to research it a bit. A prime example is the raising of a "professional" army by Butler's character. Both Butler's character and his army were really raised in the manner presented in the film. I would prefer to have a smaller army of 300 professionally trained soldiers who did nothing else in their lives other than prepare for and fight wars, then to have 1,000 carpenters, bakers, fishermen, and so forth who have some skill at warfare and fight occassionally. Thus, Butler's comment to such a following that "It seems you have come more unprepared than I."
The political intrigues created for the film that were not in the graphic novel are not as distracting as some here would have us believe. They do represent the kind of stragedies typical of the time period. Odysseus's wife, Penelope, and her son, Telemachus, experienced even more treachery during the time he was away at war with Troy in "The Odyssey." I was glad to see these added scenes that realistically represented what might have happened back at home during this war.
The only thing that I felt was unnecessary in the film were the sexual scenes. I'm no prude by any means, but for me sex and nudity within a film should have some real purpose and here it felt rather gratitous and added only because it was expected in this kind of film. It simply felt like some kind of required element much like the stereotypical sexy, but evil female spy in a James Bond film.
Other than my one criticism noted above, this film is flawless as it accomplishes all it set out to do and then some. This was film making on an epic scale and even rose to an art form this its stylized photography and graphic images. This is a must-own film for those that love this genre.
This movie RULES. Watch it on a Hi-Def TV, even if it's not HD or Blueray.......2007-09-13
I just watched this on a brand new 22" widescreen HiDef monitor from Samsung and it looked absolutely AMAZING. I saw the movie in the theatre on opening night and the picture was clearer on my screen at home.
The effects, though artsy are incredible!
The acting is solid, they manage to put enough comedy into the film to keep it light, and though this doesn't add any points to the film, this is best watched without thinking about anything. There are plenty of areas (well, most of the movie really) where you have to forget your history and not even consider realism. It's based on a graphic novel, which is so loosely based on history that it should be said, "suggested by real events" or "inspired by historic events".
But it's a fun movie, start to finish and absolutely entertaining.
A real, unspoiled action movie.......2007-09-12
Finally an action movie for those who truly appreciate aesthetics. The cinematography is absolutely stunning. The action is fierce and in-your-face. The story is simple and not really watered down with a stupid love story that gets in the way. This is a movie that I will watch over and over again for years to come.
great graphics, true to Miller's art .......2007-09-12
Impressive graphical storytelling, true to Frank Miller's original graphical novel work. Amazing visual effects that made this download a treat for the eyes. Compelling story. Not a surpirse to hear that many NFL teams made this movie viewing part of their 07 season opening training camps. Worth the download, as long as blood doesn't bother you.

If this five-disc, 20-episode, tenth season set really is the end of Stargate SG-1--and considering the number of reprieves the show has already had and the rumors of various movie spin-offs, not to mention the fact that the final installment is entitled "Unending," who knows?--then the folks responsible for this durable sci-fi series can be proud that they finished it off in style, with a run of episodes that are for the most part highly entertaining, exciting, and fun, offering resolution if not complete closure. And if sharks were jumped, at least they were small ones. As was the case in Season 9, and to a large extent in Season 8 as well, original series star Richard Dean Anderson is little in evidence here. Portraying Lt. Col. Cameron Mitchell, Ben Browder, who came to Stargate SG-1 from the underrated Farscape, is now entrenched as leader of SG-1, the Stargate project's ace team in the field, joining series veterans Amanda Tapping, Christopher Judge, and Michael Shanks (as Samantha Carter, Teal'c, and Daniel Jackson, respectively). Most notably, fellow Farscape alum Claudia Black has an ever-expanding role as Vala, whose cheeky wit and irreverence bring a consistent spark to the proceedings. The big, bad villains known as Ori are back as well. We still can't see them--they are, after all, "ascended beings," represented by the blind, monk-like Priors, who roam the universe intoning "Hallowed are the Ori" and ensuring that all will submit to their will (the element of scary religious fanaticism remains as relevant as ever). But the Ori are also still the most implacable, irresistible force our heroes have ever encountered; nothing less than the fate of the entire galaxy is at stake (again)! And now there's an added twist: the Ori have a frontwoman, if you will, whose powers make the Priors look like pikers. Known as Adria (or "the Orici" to believers), this beautiful young woman (played by Morena Baccarin) also happens to be the daughter of Vala, whom the Ori chose to bring their demon seed into the world; the uneasy (to say the least) Adria-Vala relationship provides many intriguing moments. On the minus side, the show tends to break its own rules (for instance, for a character who's supposed to be invincible, Adria often seems awfully, well, vincible), and the commingling of Arthurian legend, Greek, Roman, and Egyptian myth, magic, and other sources is occasionally over-the-top, even for this franchise. Some episodes are plot-heavy, bogged down by too many characters (past bad guys like the Goa'uld, and Ba'al reappear, as do several Stargate Atlantis principals in one episode) or excessive techno-rap about time dilation fields, flux capacitors, and something called the Clava Thessara Infinitas (don't ask). Episodes in which the writers move away from the central Ori theme are less than stellar; "200" exists mostly as an opportunity to make fun of the TV business and is as irrelevant and silly as "Citizen Joe," the worst episode from Season 8. And finally, without revealing details, suffice to say that "Unending," which offers a possible fate for our heroes before totally pulling its punches, may frustrate some longtime adherents. By and large, though, Stargate SG-1 has all the elements--humor, action, great effects, good story-telling and acting, characters you care about--to more than justify its ten-year run. It will be missed. Special features are again bountiful, including audio commentary on all episodes, various featurettes, and five "directors series" entries devoted to particular episodes. --Sam Graham
Description
The final Season comes to DVD! In season 10, Vala, a former Goa'uld host turned freedom-fighter, joins SG-1 in their battle to defend the galaxy from the holy war of the Ori. Meanwhile, relations between the Jaffa and Earth continue to be strained. It all comes to a sizzling end on the finale.

Stargate SG1-Season 10.......2007-09-13
1 word...Fantastic!!! I hated to see the series end, but anxiously await the movies to be released.
Final Season of a great Series!.......2007-09-12
Stargate SG-1 was a great and original sci-fi series. The combination of great writing, quality special effects, and an unusually well-balanced cast playing beleivable characters you cared about, made it truely unique. Season Ten did a good job, I think, given the cast and bad guy changes along the way, in concluding the series. In one way, it left you feeling that the end was ready to happen, and in another way, you wanted some more - and it gave one both. Well done!
SG1 season 10 Final Episodes.......2007-09-11
Awesomew Awesome Awesome,,,,Love it, Love StarGate SG1, will miss it immensley. One of the best SciFi's out there, had believable things going on .It's great
at least we will have the movies & Amanda Tapping in Atlantis..
The end...but not quite.......2007-09-11
Yeah, as so many others have said, a great series. While not as "hard" as Babylon 5, and not as gritty as Battlestar Galactica, it did not take itself too seriously, had some *great* fun moments (a few purposefully campy), and told a good story arc all at the same time. Even my gf was hooked by this series (whereas she doesn't share my love for B5 or BSG). Yes, it's a shame it had to end (my gf is pretty unhappy about that!), but really, 10 years is a good run. And the story doesn't end with this DVD collection, as most SG-1 fans know. There are coming two follow-up movies that will wrap up the Ori story arc before SG-1's time is done. Then the stage will be open for other teams to tell their stories (if the producers opt to pursue this, that is).
Stargate SG-1.......2007-09-09
Always buy this series, and am sorry that it is, as a weekly show, ending. Therefore it is good to be able to have the last season (I have all the others) as it is one of the best in the field - science fiction - apart from old faithful Star Trek. Always miss Richard Dean Anderson, that wry and handsome wit, but Shanks and Browder, let alone Claudia Black, what a terrific actor! more than make up for his loss. I always wish more of Amanda Tapping's abilities apart from sheer mathematics that she is forced by plot to come out with at least four or five times per episode could be utilized in more interesting directions, but she is the greatest also. Look forward to her in Stargate Atlantis.
Stargate SG-1 season 10 is a worthy product and has been added to my collection with great satisfaction.

Customer Reviews:
Great new edition of one of the best movies ever........2007-09-14
Anyone who hasn't seen Serenity and Firefly, the TV show that preceeded it, doesn't know what they are missing. Really well developed characters, great dialogue, great story, great acting. Joss Whedon writes some of the best female characters around. No idiodic portrayals of a woman dying of a broken heart and leaving her twin babies motherless like someone in a more famous sci-fi movie. These people could be real and they are all characters that are flawed, but have a lot to be admired for too.
One of the best Sci-fi movies to come out in years!!!.......2007-09-14
Whether you have seen Firefly or not, I think there is something anyone can enjoy about Serenity. I actually saw this movie before watching the Firefly series. I was so intrigued by the story I wanted to see more and believe me, I was not disappointed. Firefly is now one of my favorite TV shows of all time with Serenity being on of my favorite movies.
If you have seen Firefly, there probably won't be any need to tell you how good this movie is. I'm sure you will buy it anyway. But if you are a hardcore fan, there are more extras in this collector's edition that I'm sure you won't want to miss.
For those of you who are just looking for a decent science-fiction film, look no further. This movie has great action, humor, and special affects and it truly cares about its characters. Please please please see this movie!!!
Now for the sequel...........2007-09-14
I loved the show and the movie so now watching the deleted scenes and getting the background information (which were amazing, BTW) I just have to say this: "Joss push for a sequel!" I know that this will never happen, but I can dream. Or I can really genie it and hope that the SciFi channel will come to its senses and re-up this show. Ah yes, back to Firefly.
Anyone who even liked the show has to get this version of the movie! It is a must have for any DVD collection. And don't forget to watch it with the commentaries on.
Big Damn Collector's Edition.......2007-09-13
Buy two, or three... buy enough so that sales warrant Serenity 2! All the glory of Serenity with the awesomeness of a new cast commentary, new key art and a bunch of sweet new featurettes!
Best Edition for Fans.......2007-09-13
The only way to make 'Serenity' better is to give us more of it. This is what was done.

The Ultimate Gift is a tale of one man's tumultuous journey toward personal growth and fulfillment. Surrounded in life, and death, by avaricious family members fueled by a sense of entitlement, billionaire Red Stevens (James Garner) wants to bequeath at least one member of his extended family "the ultimate gift": something he perceives as immensely more valuable than material wealth. Red's arrogant grandson Jason (Drew Fuller) holds a deep-seated hatred for his newly-deceased grandfather, so he's surprised to learn from his grandfather's friend and lawyer Mr. Hamilton (Bill Cobbs) and assistant Miss Hastings (Lee Meriwether) that he's been mentioned in his late grandfather's will. Far from a straightforward gift of cash, land, or stock, Red's bequest comes in the form of a series of mysterious recorded instructions, the first of which requires Jason to hop on a plane for Texas the very next morning without a hint of the trip's purpose or the nature of the gift that awaits him. Dropped into a life of hard physical labor on a ranch in the middle of nowhere, Jason's bad-tempered fury eventually turns to resignation and he finds himself engaged in, and even taking pride in, the first real manual labor he's ever done in his life. Unbeknownst to him, his journey toward claiming the ultimate gift has only just begun. When he returns from Texas, Jason finds his home cleared out, his car confiscated, and instructions to produce one true friend. While Jason is reduced to sleeping in the park, a young child name Emily (Abigail Breslin) and her mother Alexia (Ali Hillis) make his acquaintance and lead him to re-examine his personal prejudices and perceptions of what's truly important in life. Jason's journey of self-discovery continues throughout a series of other trying experiences and, in the end, Grandpa Red's "ultimate gift" of life lessons profoundly and permanently improves the quality of Jason's life. What's more, Jason's new perspective of his place in society has a very positive affect on the larger community. This very powerful film is funny, heartbreaking, and intensely thought-provoking. --Tami Horiuchi

Best movie I've ever seen.......2007-09-14
I was stunned by this picture. The whole family can watch it without worrying about content and the beneficial impact is enormous. I recommend it!
The Ultimate Gift.......2007-09-14
What a lovely family film. Jason's search for the ultimate gift was a quest from his grandfather, who apparently saw his grandson's potential,
while coming from a dysfunctional family.Be sure to watch the credits at the end to see the gifts named.four stars because at times I found it a wee bit "draggy".
I loved this movie.......2007-09-11
This beautiful, inspirational movie is one of my favorites. I sae it and loved it. I saw a second time and loved it even more. It tells the tale of a spoiled young man who has to do a number of tasks, which his late grandfather calls "gifts" to get his grandfather's wealth. He soon learns the gift of work, the gift of friendship and the gift of money. All these tasks which make him work for the first time in his life and truly care about someone other then himself changes him fromt this shallow man to a decent human being. He meets a sick little girl named Emily and they become good friends. He does a lot for her, and even names a hosptail after her in the end. It's denfintely a christian film. Emily says, "God paints every single color of a butterfly with this fingers." And Jason tells her, "I don't know that much about God or Jesus, but I can promise you that those arms are meant for you." Emily teaches him about faith, and basicaly leads him to redeem himself. I cried so hard when Emily died, it was so sad. So did her mother and Jason. Her life truly had an affect on him. It's sad, but sweet and funny too. Just watching the Ultimate Gift is a gift in itself because it's such a beautiful movie. Abigail Breslin is adorable, and is a talented little actress. Drew Fuller is a good actor and does an amazing job. So does James Garner. The movie is about what's most important to you in your life and how precious life really is and how it's important to believe in God.
Undermarketed and Suprising!.......2007-09-07
This movie was released in theaters to little fanfare. In fact, the only people who knew it was out were those who heard from friends. I was dragged by a friend. And I'll be honest: I absolutely did not want to go see the movie. I was in a bad mood and didn't feel like watching something that would "feel good." I, however, am SO glad I went. What a difference a film written and directed with values can make! If you aren't a Christian or are living in the world, scoffing at everything that seems too obvious or too trite, then skip this. You probably wouldn't understand anyway. For those of you who want a change from the violence, sex, nudity, and so on that Hollywood assumes (incorrectly) sells (examine some of the top grossing movies of all time, and most of them not only aren't rife with all the aforementioned nastiness, but are actually VALUES films), you will ADORE this movie! I've been telling everyone I know since I saw it at the beginning of the year!
I only rented this movie to kill sometime..............2007-09-07
I only rented this movie to kill sometime when there is nothing else to watch at night.....and I am so glad I did....This movie was heart warming....funny....and just GOOD! the 1st movie that I've actually enjoyed in months!! EVERYONE should rent this film.

Customer Reviews:
The movie 300.......2007-09-13
Stirring epic which brings to gut-level view the heroic resistance
of 300 Spartans against the Persian hordes, led by colorful Xerxes
himself. The comraderie, discipline, fighting skills, etc. exhibited
are truly wonderful; so too is the background story: the festival
days preventing the sending of the entire Spartan army; the pain
of Leonidas' wife as she acknowledges her soon-to-be widowhood.
The special effects too are extraordinary and must be seen to
be believed. I could go on. Just watch the movie!!
Another misrepresentation of history?.......2007-09-13
I really thought I would like this but sadly did not.If it was not a film about something that suppose to of happened it might of been better, say a film of fantasy? No it was still flat.No character development,I did not have any feeling toward anyone in the film.Truth turned into myth, yes.I have to disagree with another reviewer,in that I liked Braveheart a lot better. At least it brought out my emotions more. This would make a good video game, that is about it.Maybe I just wasn"t in the right mood at the time?Heck-I liked King Arthur with Clive Owen better than this. This is only my opinion.
Good Story, Horrible Visuals.......2007-09-11
"300" tells the amazing story of how an informal Spartan army of only 300 men held off the massive Persian military force until they were betrayed and decimated by King Xerxes. The story was incredible, and told very well. Several of the battle sequences really whet the appetite of the armchair war tactical strategist. But the flat, fake, chrome-like colors of the film (which make this almost look like a comic book), really take away from the experience. The slow-motion photography also detracts from the credibility of the film - I can only guess that this technique was used to simulate a 3D effect, which it accomplished to a certain degree, but not enough to make this movie visually appealing. Also, the "look" they chose for King Xerxes was awful! From the research I've done on this individual, I don't believe the costume to be historical - perhaps this was just another of the filmmaker's surreal visuals for shock value?
300 Movie.......2007-09-10
Amazing fight scenes, artistically filmed. Action scenes are unparalleled...far superior to Lord of the Rings battles.
Felt like 300 Minutes.......2007-09-10
First of all, I tried to keep an open mind about this movie, despite the fact I don't care for these old fashion sort of battles, the spears, all the blood. Maybe that's it, the movies show too much blood, getting stabbed, etc. I was a little surprised this wasn't too bad compared to something like Braveheart (in terms of blood and how gory it is; but then again, it's been awhile since I saw Braveheart, so maybe I'm wrong).
But, where is the story? Where is the character development? I understand, fight to no longer be slaves, but still, there must be more. And who are these people? A queen, a king, some god, and a lot of people who fight. There was so little character development. I finally knew who one person was just because he's the one with some cloth wrapped around his eye.
And the blood/CGI, ugh. Not good. Too fake and pointless. Maybe that's why it seemed easier to sit through this than Braveheart.
And the battles? I've seen commercials last longer than that. Now I am no big action sort of guy in films, but it's nice at times, and this was just flat out horrible.
The ending was short too. I like why he did what he did (won't say much, don't want to spoil it), but that was about it.
And this nude sex bit. It really isn't that bad. Personally, I don't quite understand why this country is so touchy about sex and nudity, as if it's bad to make love to your spouse, but it's OKAY to stab someone through their heart, and decapitate them. "I know honey, you prefer us to beat each other up and have our own blood bath, and I know it's worse to ask this, but can we have sex? I know it's worse! It's horrible, so shameful! but please?" 'rolls eyes' But that's beside the point.
The point here, the movie was done poorly.
The story wasn't strong enough, you didn't know the people too well (guess that's no longer important in films), the blood/CGI was weak, battle scenes ended so quickly. Reminded me of the movie Doom. Through all those battles, and no blood stains on the warriors, yeah that makes sense. I go to work, fairly clean place, and yet I come home from the factory with dust, yet all these people fight and no blood.
Oh well, that's not important, right? Who cares. just sit down and watch some movie that shows breasts, sex, violence and blood.
I was expecting more than what I got here. Grab the 'History Channel' special on the 300. I'm sure it's better than this.
Description
Times change. Dangers remain. 10 years after he became President of the Interstellar Alliance, Sheridan prepares for a fateful Babylon 5 reunion that could prevent Earth's impending doom...if he will also compromise his core principles. Meanwhile, commander Lochley confronts an unexpected interloper on the way station - a being whose presence makes the B5 freeport the crossroads between heaven and hell. In Voices in the Dark, Series creator J. Michael Straczynski reunites with stars Bruce Boxleitner and Tracy Scoggins in two richly imagined stories set after the events of the original series. Richly imagined, too, is Straczynski's vision of the 23rd century (including a dazzling New York City) - a vision made more spectacular via filmmaking technology unavailable during the original series.
