Being the famous 14-year old rock star Hannah Montana isn't easy, nor is the life of an average Los Angeles middle school student who's trying to figure out her place in the social scene. Imagine, then, how difficult Disney Channel's Miley Stewart's life is considering she's living both lives simultaneously. One of the most down-to-earth pop stars you'll ever meet, Miley goes to exceptional lengths to keep her identity as Hannah Montana a secret from her best friend Lilly because she's afraid of being treated differently in "Lilly, Do You Want to Know a Secret." When Oliver's obsession with Hannah Montana gets to be too much for Miley to handle in "Miley Get Your Gum," she devises a gum-chewing scenario that just about guarantees an end to Oliver's crush on Hannah Montana. Far from the usual adoring fan, Miley's newest crush Josh actually says he doesn't like Hannah Montana in "I Can't Make You Love Hannah If You Don't," so Miley sets out to change Josh's musical preferences. The never-before-seen episode "Money for Nothing, Guilt for Free" finds rich snobs Amber and Ashley in ugly competition with Miley, Lilly and Oliver over a school contest to raise money for the needy while Miley's brother Jackson is bent on beating his father at just about any kind of competition. Bonus features include the Hannah Montana music video "Best of Both Worlds," a backstage interview with Miley Cyrus and her father Billy Ray Cyrus about following your dreams, and Miley's audition tapes. Overpriced.......2007-07-09
Lots of people have reviewed the show, which is cute, so I'm going to comment on the "packaging." This disk contains the first four episodes of a TV show season that consists of 25 episodes. At this rate the entire season will cost $13.49 * 6 = $80.94, which is outrageously expensive in my opinion for one season of a half-hour show. Seems especially greedy on the part of Disney since this disk could easily hold one more episode and still have under two hours of material. Boo Disney. One-hour shows with much bigger budgets sell for half that price or less for a season on DVD. I'm going to skip this for now and hope Disney releases the entire season as a boxed set for a reasonable price at some point in the future.
Of course, maybe Disney doesn't plan to release any further episodes on DVD, in which case a better yardstick would be $13.49 for 91 minutes of video, which is a fair price, but not releasing more episodes of this show would indeed be a shame.
For what it's worth, iTunes sells the individual episodes for $1.99 each. The quality isn't DVD quality, but you can buy any of the 25 episodes in season one and for $0.44 more than the cost of this disk you can have seven episodes instead of four. What's wrong with that picture?
Fun!!.......2007-06-27
I bought this dvd for my tomboy stepdaughter and she just loves it! Hannah Montana is the best thing Disney has come up with (besides High School Musical that is!)...entertaining and uplifting. Hannah is fun!
i like the show but the music is...........2007-06-25
i love hannah montana but her music is 100 percent bragging. "I got the best of both worlds and you dont haha, i can be anyone and your just a little person...." it goes on and on, if you dont believe me listen to the soundtrack yourself. another problem is that even when just preforming for a live audience outside the show, miley still is dressed as hannah. its just like saying, "dont be yourself, wear a wig like me" besides for that, her show is good.
I really like this show but..........2007-06-19
OK, I'm gonna review the show itself (I don't have the DVD, yet), having seen all the episodes except the pilot. What I like about HM is the on-screen chemistries between Miley and Lilly (Miley Cyrus and Emily Osment); you really get the feeling that these two are very good friends (something that is seriously lacking in a lot of shows). Also, Billy Ray Cyrus pokes fun at his own real-life career, which I find very funny.
Then there's the male best friend rounding out the trio (Oliver; played by Mitchel Musso), and the annoying (in this case, older) brother Jackson (expertly played by Jason Earles). And that's where, in spite of being done better, the sense of deja vu begins. It's like Disney is forever trying to find the next Hilary Duff (hence Hannah's blonde wig). This series could be a taste of what a third season post-Lizzie McGuire the Movie could be like. It's not a bad thing, but when you see and recognize elements from Lizzie McGuire and That's So Raven (including dialogue), then it's time for a rethink. I really like this show in spite of being mostly a kids' show, but I'd love to see more development than a rehash of 'Disney's Greatest Hits'. I'd still buy this DVD and the upcoming Pop Star Profile, and recommend them in spite of this, because it is a good show in spite of minor shortcomings.
I love Hannah Montana.......2007-05-21
I love this TV show. I love everything on Disney Channel. I love Miley, her music, her clothes, and she looks so pretty with that blond wig on. It actualy looks like her natural hair color. She is such a beautiful girl and so talented and amazing. Hannah Montana rocks! How could anyone in their right mind think it was bad?! It's so good. A good show for kids and their families. It's wholesome, G-rated hilarious fun show. I love Emily Osment, who plays Lilly Miley's best friend on the show. I wish I had a best friend like that. She's so sweet and cool. If there any girls out there who want to be my friend, please let me know. I also love her father, Billy Ray Cryus. He's a good singer just like his daughter. Miley's music is pop, country, and a whole lot of fun. I love her music! Buy this DVD. Y'all will love it! It's not crap. It's Disney Channel. It's all about following your dreams and believing in yourself.

ELVIS 25 ANNIVERSARY CONCERT LIVE CD.......2007-09-14
THIS IS ONE UNBELIEVABLE CD! IT COMBINES ORIGINAL VEDIO FOOTAGE OF ELVIS CONCERTS WITH THE MUSIC AND BACKGROUND SINGING BEING DONE "REAL TIME" BY THE PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY WERE AT THE CONCERTS. IT IS VERY INTERESTING TO SEE HOW THE PEOPLE LOOKED THEN AND HOW THEY LOOK NOW. THE MUSIC AND SINGING IS NOTHING SHORT OF FANTASTIC.
FOR LESS THAN $20, YOU GET A CD THAT YOU WOULD HAVE HAD TO DONATE OVER $150 TO PUBLIC TV TO RECEIVE.
GREAT DEAL!!!!!
Elvis 25th Anniversary DVD .......2007-08-23
I waited many months for this DVD to become available. It is a fabulous addition to my collection of Elvis music.
Awesome, but some of the show is missing.......2007-08-23
I was at this 25th Anniversary concert in Memphis (3rd row from the front) so for me this is a huge reminder of a very special night & concert. But a lot is actually missing & I don't think it needed to be. There was a segment with Elvis' early recordings & a segment of clips & music from his movies. We saw the best of Elvis' whole music career that night. But the 'gospel section' where the backup singers do a couple of numbers of their own is also missing and I recall that was awesome! But for anyone who couldn't go to & has never seen an Elvis concert this is a very good DVD to watch. But I also found the picture quality in some of the Las vegas concerts seemed out-of focus and think that could have been improved. But for me this is a trip down memory lane of a fantastic night & wonderful occasion & I'm just pleased they put this out at all.
Back-ups live, Elvis on video--interesting presentation.......2007-08-21
If you're not a died-in-the-wool fan or are only going to purchase a few Elvis videos, go for the original performances: That's the Way It Is (Special Edition), Aloha From Hawaii (Special Edition), Elvis on Tour VHS, The Lost Performances VHS (why aren't these two on DVD??), and The Come-Back Special/One Night With You. TTWII & Aloha show Elvis at the top and are especially awesome! The special editions of those include the original releases and extra material and are not to be missed. The "Elvis Lives" DVD reviewed here is a unique supplement, but shouldn't be considered a substitute for the above.
This interesting presentation features many of his backup singers and musicians performing live to videos of Elvis from the above performances. This DVD does include a few new camera angles of Elvis and several songs not on the original releases, but mainly shows that his group was and still is a very talented bunch--much older now. Notably missing are Charlie Hodge and Kathy Westmoreland--are they with Elvis or still with us? The DVD also has some interesting commentary. And, it's nice (I guess) to see that I'm not the only one who has aged over the years!
Elvis hasn't--so just view the originals if you're just discovering him. If you've never seen them, you are in for a treat.
This was presented in Memphis as a way to try to recapture the feeling of being at a live Elvis concert, and I suppose succeeds as well as could be hoped. But there's nothing like the real thing, I guess. The cutting back and forth is distracting, although this DVD is definitely worth having if you're a fan and already have the originals. It was good to see the crew. They had to be fantastic to keep up with Elvis, and were!
If I could give the originals 6 or more stars, I'd give this one 5--these are great performances. Since I can't, it gets 4--but it's good. I'd forgotten what an awesome job Elvis did on "How Great Thou Art" (from the VHS "Elvis on Tour.")
There's never been anyone like Elvis--this DVD wouldn't have been made otherwise!
50 Stars for Elvis and the Band -48 for the Egos that put it together= 2.......2007-08-16
....this is a hard idea to sell ( a full band supporting a video of a long dead singer) and they did it and did it well! the problem is that the egomaniacs like Joe Guercio who was the producer...couldn't keep his sad old face off the screen! What I mean by that is this concert is set up to try and give the feeling of an actual concert ..with this amazing band led by lead guitarist Rock n Roll Hall of Famer...James Burton..and it absolutely works!! The problem is that on the DVD ...these "participants" inject themselves into the broadcast between some of the songs and even during some solos AND WHILE ELVIS IS SINGING!! for me this completely ruins the vibe and pulls me as the viewer OUT of the experience....(plus the verbiage they are spitting out is on the monotanous 38 minutes of bonus back slapping). I was looking forward to that bonus footage, but as the afore mentioned James Burton wasn't included ....failed to excite (although Ronny Tutt was nice to see and hear from)..I also wonder why the film of ELVIS from "That's the Way it Is" is such poor quality...if you have the DVD you will know its gorgeous footage but it looks terrible in this event and much worse than the TV footage from Hawaii...
Elvis completists should love it...and I am not unhappy I own it...I just wish I could have the experience like being there at the event and interrupting solos ,Elvis singing with these "Talking Heads" and between songs...JUST PULLS ME OUT of the feel...
Joe..NOBODY wants to see you...music directors should be HEARD and not SEEN!

What Was Warner/MGM Thinking?!?!?.......2007-09-14
First of all, the reason I bought this set was to have both versions (1970 & 2001) on DVD and while I love both versions (except for the deleted songs from the special edition), my real gripe is the bonus footage and the sound on the 1970 version of TTWII---it's in MONO!! WHY?!?
The sound on the bonus footage is HORRIBLE and the "bonus" footage sucks because it looks to be a third or fourth generation copy....an amateur could have done better editing and mixing these DVDs!!
Either way, they'll both still get lots of playing time in my DVD player...although I'll skip the "extras".
Elvis in Vegas.......2007-09-11
Thats The Way It Is was one of my favorites. The speciel disc was great and Elvis never looked better. He actually went out in the audience during the performances in vegas, it was great to see.....
Elvis at his best!.......2007-09-04
Elvis fan or not, you can't help but get caught up in this candid and true film of the legend.
A comment on Elvis - That's the Way It Is (Two-Disc Special Edition).......2007-09-03
The original was poorly edited but the idea was to show the fans and the event that was ELVIS more than Elvis himself. The Special Edition is FANtastic... the man and the music. This two-disc package is awesome because you get more footage and more songs to listen to, the only shame is that the original doesn't have re-mastered sound like the Special Edition, but the DVD quality footage is much better and for many fans it will be the first time they will see the original that clear. A highly recommended purchase for all music fans, it is the best Elvis ever looked during the concert years.
Elvis great - package poor.......2007-08-27
If you already have the previous special edition do not buy this. The first disc duplicates exactly that release. The 2nd disc whilst having a few interesting extras is the original release. This is poor quality as compared to the first disc, and duplicates the concert again (if you already own the previous special edition).
I'm afraid this is just a money making exercise to cash in on the 30th anniversary of his death.
Customer Reviews:
Not Led Zep at their very best.......2007-09-13
I'm not going to say anything about this DVD upgrade before it's released, obviously we're all expecting a lot. I will say however that in terms of the film itself I never thought it reflected Led Zeppelin in their best light. The concert itself was not Led Zep at their best (Jimmy Page himself has commented that "It wasn't a magic night"), and the fantasy sequences were just plain dull, even by 1970's stangards. It was especially frustrating that classic Zep tunes like "The Ocean" and "Over The Hills And Far Away" were sacrificed in order to accommodate the meandering self indulgence of "Dazed And Confused". The song was much more powerful in the band's earlier days when they performed a shorter version at their concerts more in common with the original studio album.
I don't want to come across as if I'm bashing Led Zeppelin, I love the band. I was thrilled when the two-DVD set came out with the Royal Albert Hall footage so that fans could finally see the band in their glory. I think a lot of fans remember The Song Remains The Same film with nostalgia, especially since there was (and really still *is*) so little "official" concert footage of them commercially available. Many will buy this more for *that* reason alone, even though it is *not* Led Zep at their very best. But it is still at least *something*, and of those people who will buy for that very reason I too will be among them.
A movie of its era........2007-08-31
I have grown up listening to all the Led Zeppelin has to offer. With the upcoming re-release of this psychedelic film and respective soundtrack it gives die-hard Zeppelin fans and newcomers a chance to relive what Led Zeppelin is all about.
I also have a question to those who know. The recent releases are confusing to me and I'm hoping this isn't a dumb question. Is this Limited Collector's set the one that includes the DVD and soundtrack along with the original artwork t-shirt and bonus memorabilia? Just wondering.
PLEASE STOP "REVIEWING" A RELEASE YOU DON'T HAVE YET!.......2007-08-30
Why do you people insist on 'reviewing' a release you don't have yet? And won't have for months?
I do wish Amazon would close the reviews for this until the release date (NOVEMBER 20th!) hits.
I can't think of anything more lame than to start awarding stars to a movie you don't even own.
Wait to Watch and See it Before you Bash..........2007-08-27
To Old Quad...
From all the info I've been hearing, this release is going to be a major upgrade. We're talking sound and picture quality on par with the LZ 2-Disc DVD. And that is amazing, let me tell you. That surround sound speaker effect, BTW, is only available if you have the correct speaker set-up, and lots of money to get good speakers, so surround sound or not, if you're just watching through your TV speakers, it ain't gonna matter.
I've put in my pre-order already and can't wait until November! However, It seems (and this is the reason for 4 stars instead of 5) the main vid itself will be the same as the original, only remastered in sound and picture. We do get something like 40 or more minutes of extras, so that will probably include all the other tracks and such. Though I'm hoping that's not the case (and if it isn't, I'll delete this review and put it back up with a full 5 stars), that's what I and others are assuming considering the original vid was 137 minutes, and this is only 138 minutes. But that could also mean the fantasy sequences were cut (since a sizeable portion of them were shot without backing music... I think... :D) and it's just live footage. Of course, I loved the fantasy sequences from the original (you can see my review under the TSRTS DVD already available... 5 stars for the concert, 5 stars for the fantasy bits), but it would be nice if this was just the show(s).
Can't wait for the release and to see how I end up changing this review...
Sound Remains The Same. No DTS or Original Surround Mix!.......2007-08-27
I am a big fan of Led Zeppelin having seen them live in 1977 a year after this film was released. We'll have to wait and see what the final audio on these Discs contain, but if it only has a regular Dolby Digital 5.1 mix as what has been widely reported, then Led Zep has blown it again IMO. Most people don't even consider sound quality anymore when listening to music even though we have better technology today. Regular Dolby Digital is the equivalent to an MP3, very Lossy sounding and crap compared to DTS or DVD-A at 24 bit / 96 kHz. I still own the original VHS, Betamax and DVD versions, and those are stereo, certainly Not the great discrete aggressive surround sound mix I remember hearing in 1976 at the theater. I remember in the theatrical version with the proper speaker set-up Jimmy Page's guitar feedback bouncing back and forth throughout the front and rear speakers along with Robert Plant's vocals on "Dazed And Confused." Totally awesome. That original theatrical mix is one of the "holy grail" Quad/surround mixes from the 1970's and it looks like we're never going to be able to hear it again.

Hedwig And The Angry Inch: Original Cast Recording
ASIN: B00005QW5X
Release Date: 2001-12-11 |
Amazon.com
Sometimes grace and hope come in surprising packages. The title character of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, a would-be glam-rock star from East Germany, undergoes a botched gender-change operation in order to escape from the Soviet bloc, only to watch the Berlin Wall come down on TV after being abandoned in a trailer park in middle America. Hedwig gets involved with Tommy, an adolescent boy who steals her songs and becomes a stadium-filling musical act. Suffering from a broken heart and a lust for revenge, Hedwig follows Tommy's tour, playing with her band (the Angry Inch) at tacky theme restaurants. Into this simple storyline, writer-director-star John Cameron Mitchell packs an astonishing mix of sadness, yearning, humor, and kick-ass songs with a little Platonic philosophy tucked inside for good measure. A visually dazzling gem of a movie. --Bret Fetzer
Customer Reviews:
I Love Hedwig.......2007-06-27
Having seen this film in the theatre twice, I don't know what took me so long to buy the DVD - I enjoy it every time I watch it! It has great heart and empathy and the music is fantastic! John Cameron Mitchell is enchanting as well as the whole cast. It is absurd, outrageous and yes, lovingly done. I especially liked Michael Pitt - he is one of my favorite actors - puts his whole being into every character he portrays.
Compelling Music that moves you!.......2007-05-07
a great movie , if you enjoy a good musical DEFINATELY take a second look at this film!
weirdWildness.......2007-04-11
My daughters bought this film and both enjoyed it for its weirdwildness. I can't say that I did, but it's a generational thing I guess. They especially liked the music, but again I can't say that I did although I'm a musician myself. Clearly inventive movie making and excellent musicians doing exactly what they want to do, but... I guess it's a generational thing. I don't particularly like Andy Warhol's flicks, or Broadway musicals, or Wagnerian opera, or John Coltrane, Philip Glass, or Modest Mouse indy music either. What's an old classical guitarist to do when the Bach D-minor partita is pulled off the music stand and the cross-dressers appear? The topics are not quite my style, although emotionality is the same across the entire human race. Inventive, wild, weird, very well done, but not my style.
Dr. Dude
An Inch Just Ain't Enough.......2007-03-30
Hedwig Robinson (John Cameron Mitchell) is a rocker. And she's got The Angry Inch beside her (and in her pants). As a young man, Hansel/Hedwig lived in East Berlin, right before The Wall came tumbling down. His sexual identity was always in question and when a cute, black, American soldier gives him a way out of the Eastern Bloc, Hedwig jumps on him (literally and figuratively). But he can't get to the other side of The Wall as a man, so an operation takes place to remove his vital functions below the waist ...if you get my meaning. Needless to say (if you pay attention to the title of the film), the surgery gets botched and leaves Hedwig with his "Angry Inch."
The anger is twofold. First is the failed operation; second is Hedwig's fury over stolen musical material by someone named Tommy Gnosis (Michael Pitt). Tommy is a rock-n-roll sensation, but it's all because of what Hedwig taught him in his early days. So Hedwig, in true b!tchy fashion, follows Tommy's rock tour around the world. But instead of playing in theaters and high end places, Hedwig and his Angry Inch band play at lowbrow restaurants, often to the dismay of its patrons who've simply come in to eat.
Hedwig's decline into obscurity is well played by director/actor John Cameron Mitchell. The musical soundtrack is very well done and the catchy tunes will have most movie watchers tapping their toes along to the rockin' beats. That he also remains angry at some of his band members is quite funny, actually holding them hostage by keeping their passports hidden away.
Revenge is the meal of the day as Hedwig finally meets up with Tommy again, eventually leading to Tommy's career demise and launching Hedwig into the spotlight. But is this what Hedwig really wanted? Not realizing the sacrifices she'd have to make, Hedwig decides to re-open her/his closet and show the world his/her true identity. He also sets free one of his band members who turns out to be a woman masquerading as a man, too.
Those willing to watch a film without sitting in judgement of the material will most likely eat this story up. It's quite funny, well acted, and has a rippingly good soundtrack. But if you're a staunch conservative or -- god forbid -- homophobic, you might want to pass on this one.
Mind-Altering Viewpoint.......2007-03-24
First time I watched this movie I was kinda confused, but felt like I'd just been run over by a truck. Still, I came back a second time, and a third, and a fourth...
And each time it amazes me. The meaning behind this movie and the idea of what makes someone happy might not end up completing them in the long run. *sigh* How many people can this touch before it becomes a cult classic?
Oh wait, It already is! :)

In retrospect, it seems absurd that the United States government felt so threatened by the presence of John Lennon that they tried to have him deported. But that's what happened, as chronicled in directors David Leaf and John Scheinfeld's The U.S. vs. John Lennon. The film starts slowly, with a familiar look at the former Beatle's troubled childhood, his outspokenness as one of the Fabs ("We're more popular now than Jesus Christ," etc.), and his eventual hookup with Yoko Ono, paralleled by the growth of political protest in '60s America, particularly against the Vietnam War. John and Yoko went on to stage their own peaceful demonstrations, like the Canadian "bed-ins," but these were largely harmless media stunts. It was when the Lennons moved to New York in the early '70s and took a more active role in the anti-war movement, making friends with radicals like Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, and Black Panther Party founder Bobby Seale, that the government got interested--and paranoid--and men like President Richard Nixon, FBI director J. Edgar Hoover, and right-wing Sen. Strom Thurmond began actively looking for ways to silence him (it was Thurmond who came up with the deportation idea). That's also when the film picks up. An array of talking heads weighs in, ranging from Ono and others sympathetic to Lennon's plight (Walter Cronkite, Sen. George McGovern, even Geraldo Rivera) to those on the other side, including Watergate conspirator G. Gordon Liddy. Though The U.S. vs. John Lennon is hardly impartial, it's safe to say that although Lennon was more an idealist than an activist, he was an influential celebrity whom Nixon viewed as a potential nuisance in an election year. And even once Nixon had won the '72 presidential race, the Immigration and Naturalization Service refused to drop its case. Why? "Anybody who sings about love, and harmony, and life, is dangerous to somebody who sings about death," says author Gore Vidal. "Lennon... was a born enemy of the U.S. He was everything they hated." For music fans, Lennon's solo recordings provide the soundtrack. The DVD also contains considerable additional documentary footage. --Sam Graham
Description
The compelling and provocative story of John Lennon's evolution from beloved Beatle to outspoken artist and activist to iconic inspiration for peace, and how, in the midst of one of the most tumultuous times in American history, Lennon stood his ground, refused to be silenced and courageously won his battle with the U.S. Government.

Great Movie!.......2007-09-13
This is such an excellent movie and it was in perfect condition! I'm glad that I could find this movie for such a low price, because I'm a poor college student.
not what i expected but good........2007-08-28
I thought this movie took a while to get into what actions the government took against Lennon. The title implies that it's a documentary about an actual court case, which it did talk about. However, half of the movie was about Lennon's activities prior to any court case. Which, if I would've expected it, would have been fine. I was more interested in what actions were taken against him that were questionably ethical. This was still a good documentary and I recommend it.
Big surprise.......2007-08-20
This was a great documentary. I didn't expect it to be as good as it was. Great interviews with a great assortment of people. Great archival footage. Wonderful job!
More relevant than ever, sadly enough........2007-07-11
This comprehensive documentary, which includes interviews with Yoko as well as a wide range of activists, journalists, former F.B.I. agents and Nixon Administration officials, provides an excellent overview of John's evolution from musician to political activist. Starting with having to defend The Beatles in the aftermath of the "more popular than Jesus" remark and the frenzy of religious zealotry the ensued, he became a vocal and articulate advocate for peace and equality. He and Yoko brought their vast political and cultural influence to bear on a number of issues, sometimes with great success. Of course, the BIG issue was the Vietnam War, so eerily similar to what is happening in Iraq -- a tragically ill-conceived invasion to defend democracy in a country totally unprepared for that form of government. And, the parallels between how the Nixon Administration and the Bush Administration have responded to political opposition are also stunning. At the suggestion of Strom Thurmond, the INS pursued deportation proceedings against Lennon for years, until his lawyer -- one of the heroes of this film -- finally prevailed after counter-suing over the politically-motivated violations of Lennons civil rights. In the wake of obtaining his green card, (on his own birthday and the day Sean was born) Lennon and his family settled into a period of tranquility, musical productivity, and domestic happiness which, as we all know, was brutally brought to end by a psychotic fan. Of the many lessons imported by this film, the final one was that this country needs a much better system for addressing and intervening in cases of mental illness.
Excellent........2007-06-27
I rate this DVD one of the best DVd's on the 'other side' of John Lennon. I thought I knew all about John Lennon but was amazed to find that he was greater than I thought. The special features is a must. I've got my monies worth on the purchase of this dvd.

Customer Reviews:
Great.......2007-08-28
Now, if only they would release performances from the other artists that were at woodstok. This doesn't have all the pseudo-psych filming that over time has gotten in the way of the woodstock movie. This is a great show.
WOW.......2007-08-20
I heard Eddie Kramer say that this is not one of Jimi's better performances.......I can see that maybe it is not his most consistent, but some of his performances are as bad as it gets. (Bad in the best sense of the word)This really is some of the greatest electric guitar playing ever captured, and the sound of this DVD is outstanding. Crank it up on the surround sound!!!!
Awesome.......2007-08-14
Every track is wonderful, and there is an interesting short documentary at the beginning of the main feature. on the second disc, beside the extra B&W footage there is a press conference with Jimi that happened about a week after Woodstock that's really cool. There is also an interesting interview with Larry Lee (Guitar) and Billy Cox (Bass) performing R&B with Jimi in the early sixties in the Tenessee Chitlin' Circuit. Also included is an interview with Eddie Cramer about recording the festival.
But the music is the main part and the pperformance is absolute genius.
Worth every penny, and then some.......2007-07-06
This is most of Hendrix full set at Woodstock, and if you own the
Woodstock DVD, there is missing footage of the Hendrix set.
Well these guys dug through garbage cans, and home video to get every
scrap of video available. The story is told in the include booklet.
These guys dug through trash cans to get every piece of 16mm film, some
B&W, and private footage, that is the only footage that exists when the
film crew ran out of film simultaneously, and a student videographer was
still rolling is priceless. TO find footage to complete the Star Spangled
Banner only now, and enhance it, enhance the audio, remix it to 5.1, and
come out with a DVD that is worth every penny is so excellent! I can not
thank them enough for their hard work in producing this DVD.
If you own the Woodstock DVD set, buy this, you will not be sorry. If you
are a Hendrix fan, this is a simple must have. If you are a Woodstock
fan, this is a must have. Actually, if you are a Baby Boomer... There is
footage on this DVD that has never been published before... And only $10.
Jimi Hendrix...Woodstock....this a classic...........2007-06-08
This is probably the best DVD you can own if you want to capture the magic of Jimi Hendrix.

Product Description
Chris Cole (MARK WAHLBERG) was born to rock. His longtime girlfriend Emily (JENNIFER ANISTON) believes Chris's talent could take him all the way - but instead of writing his own music, Chris worships at the altar of Bobby Beers, the fiery frontman for Steel Dragon, the heavy metal rock legends that both inspire and consume his life. By day, Chris still lives at home with his parents and spends his days repairing copy machines, push-starting his sputtering Dodge Dart and fighting with his brother. But when Chris takes the stage, all of that disappears. When he's fronting Blood Pollution, Pennsylvania's premiere Steel Dragon tribute band, Chris Cole is Bobby Beers - mesmerizing audiences with his perfect imitation of Beers' electrifying vocals and sexy snarl. Blood Pollution's low-rent recreation of the Dragon's elaborate arena shows drive the locals (including Chris's loving parents and amused choir director) into a head-banging, hair-whipping frenzy. The night his bandmates boot him out of the group he founded, Chris is devastated - until an unexpected phone call changes his life forever: he, Chris Cole, has been tapped to replace Bobby Beers as the lead singer of Steel Dragon. In an instant, Chris rockets to the dizzying heights of sudden stardom, rising from devotee to icon, from the ultimate rock fan to the ultimate rock god - the wanna-be who got to be. So what happens when an average guy gets everything he wants... and discovers it's not enough?

If you've ever indulged a rock & roll fantasy, Rock Star will give you the vicarious thrill of seeing that fantasy come to life. That's what happens when talented tribute-band singer Chris Cole (Mark Wahlberg) is tapped to replace his idol as frontman for 1980s metal gods Steel Dragon. Chris becomes the groupie-laden "Izzy," his manager girlfriend (Jennifer Aniston) grows weary of sex 'n' drugs on tour, and Rock Star plays out its utterly conventional plot line. Despite the casting of real rockers to support Wahlberg's underrated performance (nicely matched by Aniston and Timothy Spall as Steel Dragon's road manager), his character is too rigidly written to follow an obligatory rise and fall, and even its basis in fact (inspired by Tim "Ripper" Owens's recruitment into Judas Priest) can't conceal the movie's predictable formula. As a cautionary tale it's routine, but as a leather-pants love story, Rock Star's got enough good karma to keep its dream alive. --Jeff Shannon
Customer Reviews:
Rock on! .......2007-05-09
I had a good time watching this movie. It's entertaining and one that you can watch more than once and still enjoy. Rock Star also had a great cast to help keep both the action and the melodrama on an even keel.
love the rock and roll music.......2007-03-18
the movie proves that everyone has a dream, and some day it will bw achieved thru hard work.
Pretty Good Rock Movie for the Hair Era.......2007-02-16
This at least glosses over many elements of rock stardom and in some instances, the acting and situations are pulled off very well. The hero worship, incredible fan dedication, sex, drugs, sex, alcohol, sex, heartbreak, band breakups, life on the road, sex, drugs, hair, leather, backstage passes (which lead to more sex and drugs) are covered pretty well. Fun flick!
AWESOME 80'S MOVIE TRIBUTE!! but kind of touching!!!!.......2006-11-30
I though that this movie would be cool as Detroit Rock City or Dazed and Confused but is not! Rock Star is not exacly a "rock movie tribute for the past deacades" like Detroit Rock City, this is more like a dramatic story of a rocker fan in the 80's.
But DON'T GET ME WRONG! this movie is COOL!! The main character in the story hang out with the band, gettin wasted, going with groupies, lisening to rock, flashing devil horn signs and teaching his little bother how to be a HEAVY METAL FAN!
The Cons are: Most of the soundtracks were not taken from true 80's rock bands, they were made by this fictional band with fictional songs called Dragon Steel. The movie have some touching moments that spoil the fun, there were no comments about 80's rock bands, the movie wasn't that funny and the ending was kind of predictable.
P.S: Is worth buying it, but if you are looking for cool funny rocking movies of past decades then this is not for you.
ADIOS.
"Gimme blood Pollutions"...this movie will make metal heads "Stand up and Shout".......2006-10-28
This movie was a suprise when it came out, not highly publisized, but a good cast in Jennifer Aniston and Mark Wahlberg. This takes place in the mid/late 1980's where Wahlberg plays a early 20's frontman to a tribute band to "steel dragons", a 70's super-metal group with erie similarities to Judas Priest, although the creators deny any tie ins. He lives at home with his parents still and is trying to "make it big" on someone elses music, and they do a good job. Low and behold he is handed the dream of a lifetime when Steel Dragon decides to get rid of their legendary frontman and starts a search for his replacement...which ends at Wahlbergs door. From here we follow his character, now known as "Izzy" to his public through through his Dream. No real suprises in this movie as far a story line (especially if you know the Judas priest story), and no acadamy awards for acting, but some good humor and Entertaining, with a Killer soundtrack. Steel Dragons is made up of, and played in the movie by, real life rock stars Zakk Wylde (Ozzy Osbourne,Black Label society), Jason Bohnam (son of Jon Bohnam of Zepplin, and Bohnam), Jeff Pilson (Dokken), Jeff Scott Soto (Yngwie Malmstein group), Nick Catonese (Black label society), Mike Matijevic (steelheart). Just an overall good movie, great music, and entertaining, especially if you are in to metal. Check it out.

I was very surprised to see how this show was produced. You actually had the feeling of being at a real Elvis show! Having live singers and performers was truely unique. Elton John has had too many hits over the last three decades for the 12 songs in this collection to seriously be considered his "greatest," but that's hair-splitting. This hourlong concert, performed by John, his band, and several guest singers before a packed house at New York's Madison Square Garden in October 2000, certainly does contain some of his (and lyricist Bernie Taupin's) best and most popular tunes, like "Candle in the Wind," "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road," "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me," and "Your Song." And while Elton is a rather unlikely pop star these days--chubby, middle-aged, far less flamboyant than in his '70s heyday--he can still put on a good show, and that's just what he and his band (including longtime cohorts Davey Johnstone on guitar and Nigel Olsson on drums) do.
Some of his choices for guests are a bit puzzling: Bryan Adams adds little excitement to "Sad Songs (Say So Much)," while singer Ronan Keating of the British group Boyzone, a virtual unknown in the United States, is superfluous on "Your Song," perhaps Elton's most enduring tune (revived to considerably better effect on the Moulin Rouge soundtrack). On the other hand, Billy Joel is a good foil for Elton on "Yellow Brick Road," Mary J. Blige adds some soulful fervor to "I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues," Kiki Dee shows up to duet with Elton on "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" for the first time in several eons, and the young American singer Anastacia is a revelation on a hard-rocking "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting." --Sam Graham

Zee Bomb !.......2007-09-12
Big production with all Elton's best songs minus 'Benny In The Jets'. Elton's voice is fine. The one song he may have had trouble with, 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road' he smartly duets off the high parts to Billie Joel. My wife can't go to concerts anymore because of health issues but she sure loved this ! It's definitely the next best thing to being there. The added bonus is you get all of these talented singers coming out to break up any monotony that may have cropped up. I can't recommend this tape high enough for anyone who likes the songs of Elton John.
Elton John is Still.......2007-07-14
Next best thing to seeing Elton John perform in person is this One Night Only DVD. It's got all the great hits - 2 1/2 hours worth of classics. The nice thing about seeing Elton John in this DVD and even now if you catch a Red Piano show in Vegas is that he may look a little older, but he's still just as talented and entertaining as ever. His live performances are legendary and he's still one of the best musicians on the planet with the band to back it up!!
Great DVD.......2007-07-03
My eight yr old LOVES Rocket Man so I purchased this DVD for him to learn more about Elton John's music. He LOVED it! Of course, so did my husband and I. Very entertaining. Arrived fast and in great condition.
Best Concert DVD I Own.......2007-06-15
This is the best live concert DVD that I have ever viewed. Video quality is great and both the Dolby Digital and DTS soundtracks sound great. I've done some comparison between the DD and DTS tracks and I have to say the DD track has a little more punch but the DTS track is very detailed and clean. The best part of this DVD for me is the audience interaction. Everybody is on their feet for the entire concert and there are so many great guest stars. Billy Joel is great and Mary J Blige, wow! Get this DVD!!
Great Performance - LOUSY Video Clarity.......2007-03-29
If you've read far enough to get to this review, you're probably aware that this DVD contains a great selection of songs, performed well. As a musician, I have thoroughly enjoyed the caliber of musicianship demonstrated by both Elton and his very capable troupe of musicians. The composition of the shots is superb, as is the editing.
HOWEVER, I've watched this on a Hi-Def LCD and was very disappointed with the video quality. It looks like it was shot on VHS. It is quite distracting. If you are a videophile or only plan on watching this on a Hi-Def set, be prepared for very 1990's-looking video. If you can live with that, this is a great set.
