This film hits all it's marks........2007-06-30

Almost as interesting and entertaining as the film was reading the reviews. There are a lot of people making social judgements about the characters and I think they miss the whole point of the film. Disney set out to make a funny movie about a Miami dentist. It could have been a plumber from Omaha but a dentist is good too. They added enough detail to give the characters a little depth. Reviewers complain about the depth. Funny. The movie is about a man that is transported to an enviroment completly different for the comfort that he enjoyed in Miami. He learns and copes well and the funny parts mix well with the more dramatic parts. Disney has another winner. I agree with some reviewers that adults will probably enjoy it more than young kids.

This movie was purchased so my grandkids would have a good movie to watch when they come to my house. Turns out that it is such a good movie and funny movie that I enjoy it as much or more than they do.

What with Iron Will and this film, 2002 was a good year for dog movies. Not doggy, but films with dog characters. And this one is a funny and engaging story that draws in children and grown ups alike---excepting anti-Disney fanatics.

I did have one gripe: As an adoptive mother, I object to hiding such an important fact about a child's origins. And this story hooks on a longstanding secret (read, lie) of the mother of Dr. Ted Brooks (Cuba Gooding Jr.)---namely that he was adopted.

Brooks, a successful Miami dentist, embarks for Alaska when his mother tells him the truth. There, he seeks information about his birth mother---who recently died---and comes into a pack of racing huskies, which learns to run from his birth father Thunder Jack (James Coburn). His introduction to them is pretty funny, and learning to handle them is about as big a challenge as learning to handle his "new" status as an adoptive son. Pure fun.

to make this movie as a comedy from the start was a big mistake. cuba gooding jr. signed on to play this kind of role in such ridiculous funny movie is one of the living proof that oscar winners indeed are cursed. what a shame.
there are many good movies with those great dogs: eight below, white fang, iron will, the call of the wild....every one of them is far better than this snow dogs.

Great memories of my childhood, too........2007-03-01

I loved these as a child, watching them on Sunday morning and then going to church afterwards. Wonderful memories, simply wonderful. I can't wait to get every episode on DVD and relive them all.
UPDATE: I will be buying the holiday specials as well, they would be good additions.

Sunday Morning Nostalgia.......2006-10-10

I remember watching these shorts as a little girl. I bought this volume primarily for "Christmas Lost and Found," which I remembered fondly, but found myself watching some of the other sequences and enjoying them. I particularly like that, although love of God is frequently mentioned, the real emphasis is on being a good person and doing good deeds, not pushing a particular religion.

Great Memories From My Childhood.......2005-12-21

I remember seeing Davey and Goliath episodes as a child over 30 years ago. It is a pleasure to get these for my own children. The simple stop-action films continue to capture attention - even in this age of CGI. I highly recommend this product and I am thrilled with the simple moral messages children learn from these stories.

Better to buy the Holiday Spectacular !!!.......2005-09-02

This item is set to release 11/18/2005. But also scheduled to release in October/November, 2005 are Volumes 2,4 and the Holiday Spectacular. What isn't clear so far, is that the Holiday Spectacular IS Volumes 2, 3, and 4 in one package, according to the distributor's website: Starlight Home Entertainment. So save your money and just buy the Holiday Spectacular 3-disk set. You get 18 15-minute episodes, plus three 30-minute Holiday-themed episodes (Halloween, Christmas, New Years) for a total of 6 hours of viewing.

Political correct poison.......2007-03-19

I grew up on Davey and Goliath and still enjoy the old episodes. I was looking forward to a new installment to the series but was greatly disappointed once I began watching.

I am no fan of political correctness (leftist propaganda/indoctrination) and it was a great letdown that the Clokey family and the Lutheran Church succumbed to this poison to society.

Why can't Christians have their own holiday? Muslims and Jews have theirs, and I can't remember the last time a Muslim or Jew made me, a Christian feel inclusive of Ramadan or Hannuka.

Anyway, the animation is topnotch, but the message is garbage. Pass this one by if you're looking for a good ol D&G Christmas message. If that is what you are looking for, then watch "Christmas Lost and Found". All your kids will get out of a "Snowboard Christmas" is feeling guilty for being a Christian....and maybe that is the intent.

WHo could say anything negative about wholesome Davey and Goliath. It's been 3 decades since I
watched in Black and WHite...Davey has moved into the modern age with a sports subject matter
sure to appeal to the kids. Maybe for me too much effort to be politically correct, but it retains the
basic value messages...and it sure beats the alternatives available out there .

Nice to see An Old Classic come back to life,But Better!.......2006-12-11

During the last couple of years I've seen repeats on t.v. of the old show of "Davey and Goliath",which I loved as a kid" and thought it was too bad that tv was soo Sexist back in 1970's and '60s. I believe ,especially in these violent and self-centered days, America and the world need to have more friendly religious messeges! So many Christian people today seem so bigoted & self righteous and go giving out their version, often misguided messeges, of Christianity.I totally think shows like these need to help bring people together. Also, I suggest viewing the "Vegetable Tales"videos.

Multiculturalism Nonsense.......2006-08-23

Snowboard Christmas could have been wonderful, given the theme, but the message is pure liberal propaganda. The plot and dialog are unnaturally subservient to political correctness. All beliefs and genders are equal. The predetermined ending becomes obvious about ten minutes into the story. Remakes are generally bland, and this one sure is. A big disappointment is the voice of Goliath. Oh well, we live in Orwellian times.

The best Davey ever!.......2006-03-31

This special is the first Davey and Goliath to be produced since Ruth Clokey made the Special "To the Rescue" in 1975. This new Special stayed true to the original, still produced by the Clokey family, but it moves with a lot more action and excitement than the older ones. The puppets and sets stay true to the original, and the animation matches the best that was done in the early 70's when Sneaky Pete Kleinow and Harry Walton were at their peak. I think "The Flying Tomato" has probably seen this 100 times.

As for the story, it's also true to the original. Davey and Golliath was always a "God loves everyone" message. The reviewers before should check out the old episodes before they judge this. The message of this Special is that Davey learns that Jews and Muslims are not stereotypes. And for your information, if you study theology, all three religions do believe in the same God. We'd have much less strife in the world if the message of this show spread through our cultures. Christians, Jews, and Muslims could all use a dose of love and tolerance for the other. Gods love is not limited.

The friendship between Davey and his dog Goliath is very big in this story too, as it was in the original series. This also shows off Stop Motion Animation, a medium which still shines above any CG show you'll find on TV. The animation director is the same guy who next was in charge of animation for the recent "Corpes Bride" which is probably the most exquisite stop-motion show yet.

This Special is not preachy, it is fun. My kids, 10, 6, and 2 all love it. Enjoy!
