    4 out of 5 stars Great 80s Flick.......2007-05-19

If you're looking for a great saturday afternooner, put this movie on your list. The plot runs a little deeper than the average teeny bopper film - diving into dreams and the meaning of life - but it still has that 80s charm: wacky wardrobe, hot hair dos, and sassy slang.

    5 out of 5 stars Dream a Little Dream.......2007-05-13

Another great campy film Staring the Cory Duo Cory Feldman and Cory Haim, Good story line and that 80 ish vibe for all those that love films of that era. Great musical accompaniement with a grate movie also a hard or not easy to find collectors item Especially for fans of the Duo.

3 out of 5 stars My husband loves it , I found it a little confusing.......2007-05-07

My husband loves this movie so I got it for him for his birthday. I had never seen it before and found some of it wasn't fully explained and it was a little weird but like I said my husband loves it. So I would give it 3 stars but my husband would probably give it 5 stars. If I recall corectly, I don't think this DVD has any special features.

5 out of 5 stars A great show! Blending comedy and serious perfectly........2007-04-19

This is not a John Hughes film, but it is right up there with all of his. Corey Feldman and Corey Haim were always great together, and this little known classic is no different. The soundtrack is awesome from opening to end credits.
I loved this movie when it came out, and now that I own it my own teenager can't stop watching it. There is a subtle underlying message that I didn't really get when I was younger, but it is fun to see my 17 year old daughter relating to the same things as I did nearly twenty years ago.
Corey Feldman blatantly demonstrates his affinity for all things Michael Jackson in an especially fun dance scene. Screen legends Jason Robards, Piper Laurie, and Harry Dean Stanton add a nice depth to this wonderful movie.

    5 out of 5 stars Classic 80's Movie.......2007-04-14

Not a lot of people remember this movie. I think it's great. I love Corey Haim and can't wait to see him in future movies.

5 out of 5 stars Little Dieter Needs to Fly.......2007-08-23

This is a well produced documentary on the life of US Naval Aviator, Lt. Dieter Dengler during the Viet Nam War. I ordered this DVD because I knew of him when I was a Yeoman in the US Navy. One of my duty stations was at the Naval Annex in Arlington, VA. near the Pentagon. My office kept track of Naval Jr. officers in the aviation branch, during Viet Nam. It was a joyful day, when I was able to move Lt. Dengler's card from the POW file back into the active duty aviator file, when I heard of his escape from prison camp there. Now I get to see the late Lt. Dengler and hear his personal recollections and his miracle escape. He was a highlight to me during my service in the USN. A must see DVD, of a brave American warrior.

5 out of 5 stars Dieter Dengler's Escape from Captivity.......2007-08-23

an inspiring story of courage and determination superbly told by Dengler and brilliantly filmed by Herzog. the Vietnam conflict and America's involvement in it evokes many disparate points of view; this film, and the story it tells, unites us all in our admiration for this brave airman.

1 out of 5 stars BUYER BEWARE: NO CLOSED CAPTIONING.......2007-08-17

I confess that I haven't watched this film; I couldn't, because there is no closed-captioning. I made the assumption that there would be captioning, but I was wrong. Don't make the same mistake if you need captioning.

    5 out of 5 stars Gut Wrencher.......2007-08-12

Dieter Dingler was the only Vietnam era pilot to escape from POW camp and live to tell his story. He was the poster child for all of us who followed as pilots at that time. Survival training always included Dieter Dingler stories. This is told in the first person and parts of it are gruesome because what happened to him was gruesome. Includes his younger years. Born in Germany. Rations. Village bombed. Alone in New York on streets. Explains why he survived later and after surviving a crash landing in Laos. Very lucky to survive the crash.

    4 out of 5 stars Good documentary.......2007-08-08

Interesting man, interesting life, well told story. Although, I'm sure dramatic flair was added to spice up the story. Worth watching more than once.

Classic Musicals from the Dream Factory is a five-film collection of enjoyable but not-quite-top-tier movies from MGM's peak period between the mid-1940s and mid-'50s. The best films are the two with Gene Kelly. In Summer Stock (1950), he teams with Judy Garland in a traditional "let's put on a show" setting. Garland was in her last MGM film, but she shares a tap duel with Kelly and performs one of her most famous routines, "Get Happy" in a black jacket and fedora. It's Always Fair Weather (1955) features Kelly alongside Dan Dailey and Michael Kidd as three GIs who return from the war, a plot reminiscent of On the Town, another Kelly collaboration with Stanley Donen. The songs aren't much, but highlights include the three GIs' trash-can-lid dance, Cyd Charisse's solo supported by a crew of boxers, and Kelly's number on roller skates, "I Like Myself." Ziegfeld Follies (1946) follows the format of a revue, with a wisp of a plot (producer Florenz Ziegfeld is in heaven imagining his dream revue; he's played by William Powell, who had played the character 10 years earlier in The Great Ziegfeld) and a bunch of diverse musical numbers: Fred Astaire's dances with Charisse, Lucille Bremer, and Gene Kelly (their only screen collaboration till That's Entertainment II in 1976); a water number with Esther Williams; and songs by Judy Garland, Lena Horne, and Kathryn Grayson. Also following the revue format is Till the Clouds Roll By (1946), which features famous performances by Frank Sinatra ("Ol' Man River"), Lena Horne ("Can't Help Lovin' That Man"), and Judy Garland ("Look for the Silver Lining"). Interspersed among the numbers is a lackluster biography of songwriter Jerome Kern. For a more traditional songwriter biography, try Three Little Words (1950), starring Astaire and Red Skelton as Bert Kalmar and Harry Ruby, respectively, whose Tin Pan Alley and Broadway songs include "Who's Sorry Now," "My Sunny Tennessee," "I Wanna Be Loved by You," and the title tune. Vera-Ellen is an excellent partner for Astaire, and a young Debbie Reynolds appears as Boop-a-Doop girl Helen Kane.

All the discs are supplemented by new featurettes and classic shorts and cartoons. Deserving special mention is Till the Clouds Roll By, which has been available for years on inferior public-domain DVDs. This version has the best picture by far, and also offers musical outtakes by Judy Garland and Kathryn Grayson. --David Horiuchi

      Terrific prices. Wonderful musicals.

Good response. Prompt delivery. Excellent condition.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect, but not quite.......2006-05-31

It is wonderful to see these films finally being released on DVD! The prints are bright, colorful and clean and the soundtracks are sound better than ever. The films themselves are a treasure without any added attractions. However, since so much emphasis is put on special features, let me say that they aren't what they could be for these movies. Consider what the "Zeigfeld Follies" laser disc offered in the way of extras. There is a great deal of original pre-recorded music available from that film, so why not include more or all of it? One disturbing trend I noticed on the short documentaries is a change in the ratio of the screen image. After all of the talk about restoration and letterbox, why show clips in wide screen when the original films were not produced in wide screen. The presentation and restoration of classic films has become so much more important to viewers over the past two decades. Let's don't take steps backwards.

      5 out of 5 stars What a deal.......2006-04-26

Although this has been called a mixed bag by some, for the price, you just can't go wrong. Judy & Gene doing the "Portland Fancy" and Judy singing "Get Happy" from "Summer Stock"; Lena Horne singing numbers from "Show Boat," the musical she should have been in; Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire doing their only real on-screen duet in "Ziegfeld Follies" (they pretty much just walked through "That's Entertainment 2"); all these priceless musical numbers must be seen to be believed, all in glowing and restored technicolor. Lots of fun extras as well.

5 out of 5 stars a great bunch of films AND DVDs!!!.......2006-04-03

I was lucky enough to preview this set recently and am happy to report that the other folks expecting WB's normal fine print quality will not be dissapointed...they look wonderful. As is the custom at WB there are many extras on each DVD as well. Others have listed them...outakes, vintage clips and featurettes...so I won't re-list those but comment on the new 15 minute featurettes on each film. Well, unlike the dissapointing (IMHO) Busby Berkely bonus featurettes..these are well made, informative and VERY entertaining...probably due to the much higher quality of interviewees....like the ever present Garland expert John Fricke. Current sizzling hot Broadway choreographer and director Casey Nicholaw, who lends his expertise on Summer Stock and It's always fair weather. Susan Stroman , director of the recent movie "The Producers, ads a fresh take on It's always fair weather as well.
The absolute gem (again IMHO) however is the Oscar and Grammy winning songwriter of Mary Poppins, Chitty, Chitty Bang Bang and so many more Richard M Sherman. Mr Sherman's thoughts about Jerome Kern (Till the Clouds Roll By) and Kalmar & Ruby (Three Little Words)go much further than the normal "college professors" on other DVDs. As those two movies are about songwriters...who better than one of the all time greats to comment and frankly he seems to be much more than a hired gun , but an actual fan of these writers and very familiar with their work, lives and the movies in question...raising the bar substantially due to his participation.

5 out of 5 stars Watching this movie is like visiting old friends........2007-05-05

As the title of this review suggests, watching this movie is like visiting old friends. It's got beautiful animation, a creative and hypnotizing score, and it's a lot of fun. I watched this movie religiously when I was very young, and I just popped it into the VCR recently, and bam! I felt like I was 7 years old again.

This is a story about facing your fears, and finding new friends. It's a great film for children as well, however it must be said that this movie does have a few scary bits in it. Mainly they occur when Nemo is in Nightmare Land. These scenes are a bit spooky, but not very violent, just dark and forbodeing.

However, it is a classic, and in my opinion, a collectable, and it deserves to be bought and cherished for the beautiful piece of art that it is.

5 out of 5 stars Greatist childhood memories. 5/5 stars.......2007-03-15

Why is this movie almost 50 bucks is this another one of those valuable collectors items? Any way I first played the game (dream master) then I borrowed the movie from the library and the game was nothing like the movie but It was pretty good. The movie was all about nemos adventure dream in slumberland then to his worst nightmare where he has to go to nightmare land where he has to save the king and princess from the evil nightmare king. I don't know but when I was little I use to have long strange dreams but I don't think it was longer like in this movie. Now and days my dreams were never as long as in my childhood but I get em occasionally. This was the best movie and I think my little sister would enjoy this as much as I enjoyed it in my childhood years.

      1 out of 5 stars Not reliable.......2007-02-09

I ordered this around Christmas and as far as I know, it never made it to me. Sooo yeah, don't buy from here.

1 out of 5 stars Still Have Not Received DVD.......2007-01-21

I ordered this weeks before Christmas, and now as of 1-20-2007, I still have not received my DVD. Wish I had never ordered though this company, and never will again!

      5 out of 5 stars I'm actually 18.......2006-10-09

I just didn't want to sign up for an account. Can't they change the ugly font in these boxes?? I had a dream the other night about this movie. It has vaguely haunted my memory for years, ever since I saw it as a young child. I'm ordering it soon. For a period of time I was unaware that such a movie existed; my sister and I were the only kids with a memory of it. I really like the tiny sliver of something ambiguously mystifying in that there was really no connection of how got planted.

Sounds like what happens when you visit too many off-the-beaten-path sushi shops, doesn't it? Godzilla's Revenge is number 10 in the Godzilla series, directed by the first and best of the Godzilla directors, Inoshiro Honda. Essentially a childhood power fantasy, the film concerns Ishiro (the director's namesake), a youngster whose mind-tripping dreams on Monster Island help him gain the resolve to rout a gang of criminals and the neighborhood bullies who've been plaguing him. Part child's fantasy story, part monster movie with extended battle sequences, Godzilla's Revenge may be one of Honda's most consistently entertaining films, despite the fact that the colorful monster footage is reused from earlier movies. This is recommended fare for the juvenile or juvenile-at-heart. --Jim Gay

1 out of 5 stars Terrible DVD Release For A Terrible Movie.......2007-08-08

I remember i watched it when i was young. So when I saw that it was on dvd i wanted to get it. (remember i was young and i didn't remember how stupid it was.) I thought Godzilla was going to stomp the city. Only in The beginning with some stock footage from destroy all monsters and it wasn't even that long. It was no more than stock footage and poor special effects. I thought that Gabara Could be Cool if He had A Really big upgrade. I saw holes in gabaras neck not like battle holes, but holes that made gabaras roars. really sad. over all poor movie. I'm a kid too and i don't even like it.

5 out of 5 stars Lighten up, folks!.......2006-08-02

I love this movie. It's extremely corny, most of the footage is stock, but it is so entertaining. I think the Godzilla gang really had fun making this one.Minilla is ridiculous, but remember, this is in a kid's dream sequence. His dreams WOULD be made up of stock footage and ridiculous characters, wouldn't they? I think this one is a great big thank you to all the kids who helped make Godzilla famous.

1 out of 5 stars attack of the killer stock footage.......2006-06-16

this is ether the worst godzilla movie ever made or one of the best.(depending on what you want out of it.) Being a Godzilla series fan I gave this movie the closest raiting I could. (please look at what decribes why you want the movie below and get the best rating for you)

IF YOU ARE A GODZILLA SERIES FAN- this movie is a terrable godzilla movie (with a misleading title.)This movie shows you one to two minutes of new godzilla. There is only one new scene with Gidzilla! (the rest is old stock footage from Son of Godzilla and Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster.) The only reason to buy this movie is ether to complete the collection, OR to see one of the funniest godzilla movies ever made. (beating Godzilla vs. Megalon!)My brother and I laffed so hard when we saw this movie because Minya talking is the worst idea i've ever heard. (literally heard.) IN CONCLUSION if you get this movie in a box set (because they always stick this one in there), and are to lazy to put in both Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster and Son of Godzilla, skip ALL of the scenes without Godzilla, turn the volume lower than mute, and crank up some Heavy Metal music (may I suggest Metallica?) because this is not a good moment for godzilla! For a Godzilla series fan I give this movie a -* (negotive star)raiting.

IF YOU ARE GETTING A GIFT FOR A CHILD AROUND THE AGE OF 5 To 8- This a good movie for a small child who (like I used to be) is obsessed with dinosaurs or monsters. This movie has a farely nice message for kids, wrapped up in a watchable package. It teaches your kids to stand up for themselves. For a young child I give this movie a **** (four star) review.

5 out of 5 stars remember how old you were when you first saw this?.......2006-03-26

i think this is one of the best godzilla movies ever. we have all the monsters on monster island wow i saw this as a child no older than the little boy and i could relate. i felt so good and strong after this movie. keep in mind how old you were when you first saw this. see it through the eyes of a child. godzilla and his son will always be my heros. buy this and take a break from the real world and go back to your youth on monster island.

      3 out of 5 stars It's like a snowcone--pleasant, sweet, and insubstantial--and who doesn't like a snowcone now and then?.......2006-01-31

Since when were Godzilla movies supposed to be taken seriously? Don't get me wrong; I absolutely love them, but to read some of the reviews posted here one would think that this movie constitutes some atrocity against humanity, when, really, it's just a very lightweight, inoffensive piece of fluff.

Sure, it's aimed squarely at kids. Sure, it's cheap-looking; isn't that the fun of a classic Godzilla movie? Have your insulin ready for the sicky sweet kiddy matinee slant this movie has, then sit back and enjoy what amounts to a compilation of the best stock footage sequences from previous movies.

This was only the second Godzilla movie I ever saw as a kid; I was maybe 10 years old at the time, and thought that being able to shift moods from deadly serious dealings in the first one was a really neat idea (I was only 10 at the time, after all). I still enjoy the virtually nonstop parade of monster scrappin', even if some of it is re-cut from other movies. I never guessed such a thing way back when.

Groovy to me still is the very late-sixties Lounge sound of the main theme, "March of the Monsters". Outer-spacey electronic and burning with lava-hot sax, it cools off with jangling surfer guitar to create a piece of psychedelic pop trash ear candy at it's trippiest.

The other major reason to see this is for the only screen appearance of Gabara, a colorful, fierce-looking (for that time) and highly original beasty who I always have included as part of the offical monster lineup. Even if he is regarded as purely the product of a boy's fevered imaginings, those of us who dig him know he's as "real" as any of the rest of the Toho gang.

Just remember that this movie could have done MUCH worse for pissing away it's given potential, as other entries have certainly done ("Godzilla Final Wars",anyone?).

"Godzilla's Revenge" doesn't aim high to begin with, and therefore shouldn't be considered a failure when, in fact,it squarely hits the mark.

Cynics and fanboys alike to need to view it through the eyes it was intended for in the first place (if they can remember how), and, like enjoying a snowcone on a summer day, they (and you) will find it pleasant, colorful, sweet, and insubstantial, a not-too-serious distraction that's gone before you know it, and you won't disappointed for having taken the time.

Kelly (Emily Burton) is an uptight lesbian with aspirations to be a television news reporter. She s shipped off to Little Hope to gather data for the market research firm she works for, accompanied by Linda (Julie Goldman, The Big Gay Sketch Show ), her talkative, scatterbrained cameraperson.

When the local hotel runs out of rooms, this mismatched pair must bunk at a youth hostel filled with oddballs, which suits Linda fine but drives Kelly crazy. Kelly s even more upset when Linda runs into an old flame who s now a bored housewife looking for a little action. In a final comic misstep, Linda suggests they showcase their questionable talents by filming a human interest piece at the local annual Chili Cook-Off.

I really don't know how to review this one.. I had wanted to watch this, but none of the rental stores here carry it.. So, watched it with no idea if it was worth it. This one has a real indie feel.. and is not as glossy as some of the more "mainstream" GLBTQ films (such as Gray Matters for example).. Cute story, the characters are pretty well developed.. It's a bit pricey for such a low budget, almost unheard of film.. but.. I'm not unhappy with it.

I was pleasently surprised how well this film held my attention and captured my emotions. I had worked on the music for this film but never really saw the film all the way through. At first I was just looking for my song, but the actors were very strong and believable...to the point that I kept thinking about it DAYS after I had seen the film. I even watched it a second time with my daughter who of course loved it.
I look forward to more family type films that I CAN sit and watch with my 4 year old. Bravo...

If you are looking for good family entertainment for the kids that adults can actually enjoy too, then this is the film for you! A rare treat in this day and age!

      4 out of 5 stars A Little Inside.......2003-03-07

Adapted from a 14 minute short of the same name directed and written by Kara Harshbarger, A Little Inside provides solid drama and characters you really care about. Harshbarger also wrote and directed this full length feature starring Hallie Kate Eisenberg (Paulie, Beautiful) as Abby Mills who begins to seek more female influences due to the void in her single parent family. Her dad, Ed, played by Benjamin King, must deal with Abbyýs growing needs while mulling over an opportunity to play minor league baseball again after a five year absence and possibly make it to the major leagues.

The beginning scene captures the characters dynamics perfectly as Abby tries her best at her pee wee league baseball. "I can't hit at all," Abby says, "We lose because of me." Edýs over zealous next door neighbor Nancy, played by Kathy Baker (TVs Picket Fences, Cider House Rules), sees Abbyýs frustration and begins to take an increased interest in Abby by having her over for sleepovers and braiding her hair. Nancy creates an interesting dynamic in the Millsý household by providing help & hurt at the same time though she has good intentions. Eventually she encounters the same type of problems identifying with Abby that Ed has. ýI donýt know what to do when sheýs upset,ý Nancy says to Ed.

Edýs work as a mechanic keeps his life steady but when his new co-worker Matt, played by Jared Padalecki (TVs Gilmore Girls), recognizes Ed from his glory days as a minor league star, it lights a baseball fire that has been burning under Ed for a while. His number one priority, namely Abby, now seems to be a liability, even though he loves her very much.

Ed also seeks his former coach, Tom Donner, played by Frankie Faison (Down to Earth, Thomas Crown Affair) for some helpful advice. Coach Donner provides some solid support for Edýs impending comeback with dialogue like "Don't waste anytime trying to get those years back." Youýre led to assume heýs a good coach even though you donýt see him actually coaching or providing extraordinary guidance to other players. The assumption gains strength as Coach Donner offers Ed insightful tidbits regarding the ýblind spot in his lifeý which becomes easy to see because of their simple lives and small town setting. Coach Donner has a functional role that couldýve been expanded, but the focus mainly stays on Ed and Abby.

Eisenberg and King have great family chemistry together especially during a scene when theyýre packing luggage. Their relationship anchors the movie as other characters act as supplements to their life story including the widely recognizable Amanda Detmer (Saving Silverman, The Majestic, Big Fat Liar) who plays Sarah Parker, a local single parent. All mentioned supporting characters see the struggle Ed and Abby must endure to continue their paths in life. Itýs a hard task especially when Ed has a chance to fulfill a lifelong dream and Abby longs to grow with her father while experiencing life from a more female perspective. This vital family dynamic also affects Abbyýs education at school and Edýs baseball career.

The crew and filmmakers make good use of the charactersý traits in the story by using parallels and subtle drama to emotionally connect with the audience. For example, a beginning sequence where Abby canýt find a team partner mirrors a sequence involving Edýs initial return to baseball. Filmmakers also insert a great sequence, interlaced with Abbyýs ballet practices and Edýs baseball activities, that shows how theyýre progressing personally in their interests, but drifting further away as a family. Essential background about Abbyýs mother (Edýs wife) also supports the well structured main characters.

Filmmakers make a few editing mistakes including a sequence where Abbyýs lips donýt move, but you can still hear her talking as a car drives away from a bus and another sequence where Ed comes home after an important night game and you can see daylight outside.

You eventually see the charactersý progress and how Ed and Abby changed their family dynamic to fill both of their needs (the scene where Ed joins in a girlsý discussion works especially well). Ed and Abby realize they ýcanýt both be in the spotlightý as Ed tries to understand Abbyýs feminine needs and Abby realizes the importance of their family baseball rituals like having an indoor carpet picnic while watching a major league baseball game. Baseball not only provides entertainment in this movie, it also represents a family tradition full of deep memories and background that helps anchor this family, especially apparent in the final sequence where Abby again plays pee wee baseball.

A very satisfying family movie filled of decent content and many acts of love, kindness and genuine care. This Toledo, Ohio-born reviewer also enjoyed the numerous references to the local minor league baseball team, the MudHens. Many of the baseball scenes were filmed at the actual locations due to producer Greg Duniganýs collaboration with Columbus Clippers general manager Ken Schnake. This 95 minute expansion of Harshbargerýs original 14 minute short comes recommended and is rated PG for two minor expletives.

The crew and filmmakers make good use of the characters' traits in the story by using parallels and subtle drama to emotionally connect with the audience. For example, a beginning sequence where Abby can't find a team partner mirrors a sequence involving Ed's initial return to baseball. Filmmakers also insert a great sequence, interlaced with Abby's ballet practices and Ed's baseball activities, that shows how they're progressing personally in their interests, but drifting further away as a family. Essential background about Abby's mother (Ed's wife) also supports the well structured main characters.

Filmmakers make a few editing mistakes including a sequence where Abby's lips don't move, but you can still hear her talking as a car drives away from a bus and another sequence where Ed comes home after an important night game and you can see daylight outside.

You eventually see the characters' progress and how Ed and Abby changed their family dynamic to fill both of their needs (the scene where Ed joins in a girls' discussion works especially well). Ed and Abby realize they "can't both be in the spotlight" as Ed tries to understand Abby's feminine needs and Abby realizes the importance of their family baseball rituals like having an indoor carpet picnic while watching a major league baseball game.

Many of the baseball scenes were filmed at the actual locations due to producer Greg Dunigan's collaboration with Columbus Clippers general manager Ken Schnake. This 95 minute expansion of Harshbarger's original 14 minute short comes recommended and is rated PG for two minor expletives.
