Like, radical, dude--but not nearly as funny as it should be, even though it was a box-office hit. Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter are a pair of dim Valley boys, whose life is made heinous by a school history project. Enter George Carlin as a futuristic dude with a time-traveling phone booth. So Bill and Ted go back in time to round up a gang of historical figures (Socrates, Joan of Arc) to bring back for their presentation. Abe Lincoln at the mall? That's about as witty as it gets, rendering this the kind of comedy that gives teenaged audiences a bad name. --Marshall Fine
Description
Keanu Reeves (The Matrix) and Alex Winter (The Lost Boys) deliver "spirited performances" (The Hollywood Reporter) in the original righteous comedy about the two ditzy dudes from San Dimas, California. Also starring George Carlin, this hysterically funny historical comedy is a "snappily directed" (Time), "bouncy good time" (The Boston Globe) and a party that goes on and on! Bill (Winter) and Ted (Reeves) have spent so much time forming their rock band, The Wyld Stallyns, that they're flunking history. Whoa, duuuude! And when Ted's dad threatens to send him away to military school, Bill and Ted realize it could mean the most heinous end of The Stallyns! Luckily, a guardian angel from the future, Rufus (Carlin), has come to them with a most bodacious solution: a time-traversing phone booth to take them into the past to learn about the world from some of history's most influential personalities. Their journey through time turns out to be a blastÂ...but will they learn enough to pass their class?
Customer Reviews:
May not have an ounce of realism, but when a movie is this freakin' hilarious, who cares?.......2007-08-27
One of the most entertaining of the many "80's flicks" that have been produced, the tale of two stupid but lovable dudes who are given the chance to save themselves from school failure in a most unique way: traveling back in time and kidnapping historical figures such as Abraham Lincoln, Billy The Kid, Socrates, and Napoleon Bonaparte, and using them to create a stage show of their history report.
Now, of course such things don't really happen, but it's fun to watch the legends of history trying to live like it's 1988, especially during the mall scene, where Beethoven creates pulsating synthesizer music, Socrates tries to impress a couple of California valley girls, and Genghis Khan thinks about exchanging his club for a metal baseball bat.
But perhaps the most hilarious thing of all is watching Napoleon having the time of his life at a waterpark. Classic by any standard, especially for people who love the 80s.
Lives up to it's title!.......2007-08-24
Bill (Alex Winter) and Ted (Keanu Reeves) are two boneheaded Californian party dudes who are flunking history and are in deep trouble, but never fear! a guardian angel from the future named Rufus (George Carlin) helps with Bill and Ted with their history trouble by giving them a futuristic time-traveling phonebooth that can send them anywhere in time and learn one hell of a lesson especially getting babes from the past.
A snappy and hilarious cult Sci-fi fantasy comedy classic of the 80's that became a hit in theaters and one of the funniest movies ever! Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter from "The Lost Boys" fame are a funny duo as the lovable californian teen dudes that think nothing but partying down. The acting is very good and the humor is flat out well written, this is a true comedy classic of the late 80's and fans of "Back to the Future" and "Time Bandits" will enjoy this delightful comedy treat.
This DVD has good picture and sound with the only extra being a theatrical trailer but this awesome comedy belongs in every comedy fan's collection.

If you got past my most excellent title, then you are ready to go back in time with Ted & Bill for a most excellent adventure.
Well, if all you want to do is sit down and watch a fun filled movie, good for laughs; this is one of them from the 1980's.
Two guys named Ted, played by Keanu Reeves & Bill, played by Alex Winter; show us that as unimportant as you may think you are to history, you never know what ripple affect you have in the end on historical events, until you see your own future or your past. Both guys apparently affect the future outcome of mankind's destiny and course of civilization, while receiving help from their future, to make sure to keep their appointed rendevous with their destiny.
Rufus, played by George Carlin, comes from the future to help Ted & Bill complete a school history report by supplying them with a phone booth; now get this, that can go into the past or future simply by "dialing" the keypad in the phone. Unless both come through with this report, the course of human history as Rufus knows it, will never happen.
So off into the past go Bill & Ted to put together their most excellent report by collecting most excellent famed characters from the past, while bringing them into the present. The most excellent antics and fun of it all you have to see for yourself: Most excellently!
What carries the film in my book are Keanu Reeves, Alex Winter and George Carlin for the most part. This is one of those cases where most excellent casting and most excellent timing worked at the box office.
Another most excellent film for the entire family, if all you want to do is kick back and not think too much, while just having most excellent fun being young with the characters of the movie.
I always liked it..........2007-05-16
I'm not sure I understand why a few people here seem to be upset that a) the two main characters are totally moronic and goofy. They're -supposed- to be. They're supposed to be the type of kids you laughed at in school because they were just such losers (but hey, loveable anyway)
b) That's not what would 'really' happen if such characters from history met! Of course it isn't! This movie wasn't made to be a history lesson any more than 300 was. It's supposed to be all out silly. I suppose if you can't let yourself just be silly a while, you won't enjoy the movie.
That being said, I think it -does- help if you grew up with the movie (I first saw it when I was 8 or 9 I think... ) and know the nostalgia behind such phrases as ' radical dude' and all that really awful 80's Valley Slang. Watching it now, almost 20 years later, it's even more amusing because I remember my friends and I thinking Bill and Ted were awesome and copied them using such words as 'Bogus' and whatever. Kids of a newer generation or people that weren't really growing up in that era might not find it so charming or a trip down pleasant childhood lane... but hey, for those of us who did grow up with it, most everyone I know loves the movie for what it was. Stupid, silly, entertaining.
Plus the part where they introduce Ghengis Khan as Bob Genghis Khan always made me laugh.
A true classic.......2007-05-13
I can't get enough of this film...I still laugh throughout the film to this day...ziggy piggy ziggy piggy LMAO! I can't imagine why anyone would rate this below 4 stars. It's an 80's classic that hopefully someday I can share with my children if I have any in the future.

About Louis Bailey's comment- This video is about Families, not friends. Two men with a child, being two buddies waiting in the park for their wives, just doesn't make sense. Think about it!
Great Elmo.......2007-01-05
This is another good Elmo series even though I think the "mail" segment may be a little outdated with email and such . . . Still cute.

Certainly not the preschooler's body-part primer implied by its title, Head to Toe with Elmo simply unfolds the great mysteries of jackets, hats, and shoes. This combo induces plenty of chuckles for Elmo, the scruffy red-furred host who loves interviewing kids, babies, talking clothing, and his (real) pet goldfish. As little Elmo flits about his crayon-scribbled environs, he poses lots of questions to preschoolers at home: "How do you put on your jacket?" "Who wears hats and who doesn't?" and "What do shoes do when nobody is wearing them?" Plucked directly from the highly acclaimed Sesame Street show, each 15-minute segment features a fast-paced blend of video vignettes, goofy Mr. Noodle encounters, Elmo's own purposefully amateur home movies, and laughs for the grownups who might be watching. Not to say Elmo's jokes always fly, but kids can't seem to get enough of this wholesome, curious, and informative critter. --Liane Thomas
Customer Reviews:
Great for young kids.......2007-04-16
Elmo and friends are great for young kids. They learn and have fun at the same time. Just don't buy from Smoky Mountain Books. They'll renege and then try and raise the price on you, a very illegal practice.
Elmo Schmelmo.......2006-12-24
OK OK OK, Elmo is slowly growing on me also and my daughter really likes his DVD's. This is the usual stuff. Kids will love it but it still lacks the appeal of older Sesame Street stuff.
Ah the Memories.......2006-02-13
My younger sister is now 2 and I got er this video. These are the episodes I watched when I was younger. They are so cute and my sister loves them. So do I! She is learning to get dressed with these segments. It's fun while the kids learn.
Head to Toe - Unusually Boring.......2004-07-06
I would rate this the least interesting Elmo DVD - it has a slow pace, and it's all about similar topics (clothing items). Our two year old - who loves Elmo - actually yawns during this one. The only amusing part is about shoes. Pass on this one if you have a choice!
A Very Good DVD.......2004-05-18
When I saw some of the other reviews for this dvd, I was a little surprised. We bought this one for our 20 month-old daughter, and it immediately went into our rotation of Elmo videos. She loves it just as much as the other ones. In fact, this was the first one that she started to sing along with Elmo. She became engaged with the familiar objects. To be honest, I don't think any of the Elmo segments are particularly tolerable to adults, and this one didn't bother me any more than any of the others. My daughter loves Elmo, and finds something fascinating in all the segments. And I can let her watch without worrying about violence, language, or content. That's the important thing. So, if your looking to add some "new" Elmo to your video library, then this one will fill the bill.

It is the future. Society has at last solved all its major problems, thanks to amiable lunkheads Bill and Ted and the inspiring music of their band, Wyld Stallyns. Only one man is dissatisfied with the way things have turned out, the evil De Nomolos. In an effort to change the future, De Nomolos sends evil Bill and Ted robots back in time to prevent the real Bill and Ted from winning a pivotal Battle of the Bands. What follows is a spirited journey through the afterlife as Bill and Ted try to rescue their girlfriends, save the future, and, oh, yeah, learn how to play the guitar. Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey swings easily between childish and clever humor, and is good at both: a Bergman reference is quickly followed by an equally funny bit about Death's stinky feet. Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter seem happy to be reprising their roles and even manage to add funny spins on Evil Robot Bill and Ted. William Sadler very nearly steals the movie as Death, playing both his wounded dignity and budding desire to be funky to a T. As if that weren't enough, George Carlin returns as Rufus and Pam Grier does a cameo just for the hell of it. Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey is ample proof that not all sequels suck. Sometimes they're even better than the original. --Ali Davis

Kids Love It!.......2007-01-26
I saw Bill and Ted as a teen-ager. Now my 14 year-old son and pre-teen kids love it. Their friends have come over and seen these movies and really enjoyed them, too. They are clean movies and are different enough from everything else, it keeps kids entertained.
Bill & Teds Most Excellent Collection.......2006-11-03
If you loved the movies, you'll love the collection, but the bonuses are a bit lacking, as they have no extra fotage.
Sweet movie.......2006-07-31
i had heard of the bill and ted movies from somebody and they sounded like my kind of movie. so one day i was just sitting there and on tv bill and teds bogus journey was coming on so i was like man im gonna watch that. so i did and i reallly enjoyed it. it was mucho funny. so then i thought to myself, "wow it would be cool to actually own this movie so i can watch it whenever i like." so i got on good ole amazon here and looked it up. one of the results was this box set. the most excellent collection. i love box sets and i loved bill and ted so it was perfect. i have watched these movies several times since i bought it. so in conclusion, if you like bill and ted you should definatley buy this dvd box set. if youve never seen bill and ted you should still definately buy this dvd box set. go! get it.
Wild Stallyns Dude!.......2006-03-15
Bill and Ted I & II plus a bonus dvd of extras. Not a bad deal for the price that Amazon.com give you. However these movies are for the lovers of the corny 80's genre. I myself can't get enough of them, but it's definitely not for everyone, just those of us who know about it.
I liked it dude. .......2006-01-14
Theres lots to see.Its so retarded that its watchable, they just manage that. Well I like dumber and dumber. I wanted to dislike it but your can't. Its pretty good.

Customer Reviews:
Your kids will probably be bored.......2007-03-17
I realize that this batch of films is aimed at older teenagers and college kids, not adults over the age of 25. However, you can probably do much better picking out films your kids will watch than this collection. That's not to say that there aren't some great yet silly films in the batch, because there are. Next I describe each film in descending order of quality.
UHF (1989) - This is a great film starring Weird Al Yankovic as a directionless young man whose uncle gives him a rundown TV station to manage. His unconventional programming turns things around for himself and the station.
Cooley High (1975) - This is a great film for all ages, and was the basis for the sitcom "What's Happening", although it only faintly resembles it. It is set in south-side Chicago in the mid 60's, and concerns a group of high school friends that have numerous comic encounters, but there is also some tragedy involved in the plot.
Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989) - The first one was very funny and fresh, and Keanu Reeves will always be Ted as far as I'm concerned, even if he winds up doing Shakespeare at some point. The plot concerns two slackers who are about to fail history that are given some help from a time traveller from the future. The only problem is that it is so steeped in 80's pop culture that your kids may not get half the jokes.
Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey (1991) - The second one is still funny, it just seems to try harder and not get quite the same comic effect as the first.
The rest of the movies are under the National Lampoon label.
Dorm Daze (2003) - One of National Lampoon's better college farce movies, with the plot set up by a series of silly misunderstandings. The closest thing you're going to get to "Animal House" 25 years after the fact.
Going the Distance (2004) - A Canadian version of Roadtrip. This movie was better than I expected, with a lot of good interaction between the main characters, but still not that great even for a teen farce.
Class Reunion (1982) - This movie had all the ingredients to be funny, but it just bored me, even in 1982. Top that off with all of the 80's and even 70's pop culture references, and I don't think it would do much for today's kids.
The last three movies are just awful - "Movie Madness", "Gold Diggers", and "Van Wilder 2: The Rise of Taj". I won't even bother to describe them. When I say they're bad, I'm saying they are boring and completely unfunny. If you force your kids to sit through these three films as part of their summer break, they'll be looking forward to going back to school.
The end result is you have three good to excellent films that are all older movies, four mediocre to OK films, and three horrible movies. I think you can do much better at entertaining your older teenagers/college kids than this collection.
