Predating The Brady Bunch by almost a decade, Yours, Mine, and Ours is a screwball comedy about the ultimate blended family. When the widow Helen North (Lucille Ball) marries the widower Frank Beardsley (Henry Fonda), the two must find a place to house their 18--count 'em, 18!--kids (she had 8, he had 10). Based on a real-life couple, the film details the nuances of everyday life in a house overrun with children. From getting all the kids ready for school to sending off an older son to war, this well-written film is wholesome entertainment that doesn't condescend. Look for the very young Tracy Nelson as Germaine. --Jenny Brown
Description
Based on a true story and co-starring Van Johnson and Tom Bosley, Yours, Mine And Ours keeps the laughs coming in a "clean, wholesome family comedy" (Life). This population explosion occurs when widowed Navy nurse Helen North (Ball) meets handsome Naval officer and widower Frank Beardsley (Fonda). They have much in commontoo much in factshehas eight kids and he has ten, and when they tie the knot, anarchy reigns in the Beardsley-North merger. The opposing camps of step-siblings do all they can to sabotage each other and their parents' union. But, through it all, mother lovingly cares for her "troops," while father patiently coaches his coming-of-age kids in more delicate matters, and resentment soon gives way to respect and something bigger than anyone could have imagined!

Dennis Quaid and Rene Russo, the sexiest adults in Hollywood, anchor Yours, Mine and Ours, an enjoyably traditional family film. Frank Beardsley (Quaid, In Good Company, The Rookie), a Coast Guard admiral, runs his brood of eight kids like a military squad; Helen North (Russo, Tin Cup, Get Shorty), a designer, keeps her multicultural family of ten together with a more free and creative hand. The two run into each other and rekindle their high school romance, getting married before the kids even have a chance to meet. The two families naturally experience a bit of culture clash. After squabbles, disputes, and outright fights, the kids agree on one thing: They have to split up Frank and Helen so they can return to their old lives. Yours, Mine and Ours doesn't hold any surprises, but after a rushed beginning, the movie settles into a series of brisk, cheerful skirmishes among the kids and some truly sweet interludes between Quaid and Russo, who handle their mature romance with graceful, seasoned aplomb. This straightforward movie cruises by on energy and enthusiasm, and sometimes, that's enough for a good time. --Bret Fetzer
Product Description
When Frank Beardsley (Dennis Quaid), a widower of 8 children runs into his high school sweetheart, Helen North (Rene Russo), it's as if thirty years never passed! Helen, also a widow with ten kids of her own that include the six she and her husband adopted, feels the attraction as well. It's no wonder they rush into marriage without telling their kids. True love can conquer allright? Unfortunately for Frank and Helen, the families don't mesh quite as easily as the newlyweds had hoped. They probably should have seen the culture clash coming: the disciplined Beardsleys run things by the book; for the energetic and vivacious Norths, there is no book. Helen's kids aren't pleased about moving and sharing rooms with a bunch of uptight strangers. Frank's children have nothing in common with the Norths. Since both sets of kids aren't happy, they devise a plan to undermine the marriage and team up to plot the breakup. East meets west as the two families finds a way to work togetherin order to separate. Just when it appears that the kids have succeeded, they realize they like each other despite their differencesthey don't want their families to split up! Can they save Frank and Helen's marriage after they so brilliantly split them up? It's up to Frank and Helen!

An Inferior Remake!.......2007-08-11
I wouldn't consider this a really bad film. But I couldn't fault it for not trying. It did have some potential. The updated story now takes place in New London, Connecticut; not San Francisco. And, there are some adopted kids of all ethnicities, which made perfect sense in this day and age. The problem lies in the one thing that makes all films like this faulter, the screnplay. There are very few laughs aside from trying to make the dad look like a complete imbecile in slapstick moments. Dennis Quaid and Rene Russo struggle to put the film together. All in all, this was a huge disappointment. You're better off with the Lucille Ball/Henry Fonda original.
a better than average remake.......2007-07-16
If you go according to the reviews here, its obvious that people either really like or really hate this movie with very little in-between. I guess I am going against the grain with my review. I might very well have rated Yours mine and Ours at 4 stars if it weren't for the missing courtship between the mom and dad that made the original so much fun, and the fact that every time something funny was to happen it usually involved paint, paste, slime or some combination thereof. There are many slapstick type moments that aren't all necessary for this movie to have been funny, and yet even with it's slight shortcomings there is a great deal to like about the film. there is more development of the kids hating each other and a plot where they all join forces to try and break their parents up so they can go back to the lives they lived before their parents' marriage. The acting is all over the map with some kids seemingly delivering their lines off cue cards and others who seem to have some real talent and the direction is fast and frenzied. if you're on the search for a fun family movie with a HUGE amount of kids, Yours Mine and Ours is a better choice than either of the new cheaper by the Dozen movies.
The Bag Lady Bunch.......2007-06-30
Dennis Quaid plays a stereotypical Coast Guard Admiral who demands that his family always be organized and "ship-shape." He also happens to be a widower with 8 children. For his newest command, he moves back to his home town, where he meets up with his high school sweetheart (Rene Russo). Russo is a free-wheeling designer of fashion bags; she also happens to be a single parent to 10 kids (some of hers are adopted from different cultures, giving her family a very Angelina Jolie vibe). The couple rekindles their romance and hastily marries, much to the dismay of their children. The new family moves into a dilapidated lighthouse, which they soon have looking like something out of Martha Stewart "Living" or Pottery Barn; in other words, completely synthetic, which also sums up just about everything from this rather boring family comedy.
The plot concerns the family trying to resolve their differences - his kids are used discipline and structure, whereas her kids keep a pig in the house and play loud instruments. Not surprisingly, the kids have conflict and decide to break up their parents. To do so, they have to work together; will they succeed or will their plotting make them a family? (*rolls eyes*) Unfortunately, the laughs are few and far between, and come mostly from Linda Hunt as their housekeeper. The direction is clumsy, and the writing relies on lame slapstick and cloying from the kids. I didn't enjoy this movie at all, and I cannot imagine that anyone would except possibly very young children (6 years or younger). The movie is well-intentioned and Quaid and Russo are fairly likeable, but "Yours, Mine and Ours" fails in every aspect.
A cute flick that children will like........2007-06-21
The best way to describe this movie would be to compare it to The Parent Trap and Cheaper By the Dozen. If you enjoyed both of these films, you might like Yours, Mine & Ours.
What's this movie about? Basically, Frank and Helen were high school sweathearts. When they meet again years later, they fall in love all over again and decide to get married. The problem? The two of them have almost 20 kids altogether and they parent very differently. Frank is more strict while Helen is more care free. Another problem? The couple get married before the kids could meet each other. The kids are forced to live together and agree that they must split up their parents. Will the marriage survive? You have to watch this movie to find out.
So what's to like about this movie? First, Dennis Quaid and Rene Russo star in this film and they do a superb job acting-wise. Second, there are some funny parts in the movie (that even adults will chuckle at). Third, kids will love this movie and may learn a thing or two while watching it.
And what's not to like? When I went to the theatre to watch this movie, I was completely under the impression that it was mostly made for kids. I was right. Although some adults will find this movie decent, I couldn't wait until the movie was over because I've "been there and done that" since I've already seen The Parent Trap and Cheaper By the Dozen. The storyline isn't anything I haven't seen and you know exactly what's going to happen in the end.
This movie was decent but nothing I haven't seen before. I'd only recommend this movie to kids as adults will most likely find it boring.
The Brady Bunch x 3.......2007-06-04
Dennis Quaid plays Frank Beardsley, a 2-star admiral of the Coast Guard and a widower with 8 kids. Rene Russo is Helen North, a widow with 10 kids, 6 of them adopted.
Frank and Helen were high school prom king and queen. Somehow, after that, they've gone their own separate ways and married. Both of their spouses have passed away.
For the umpteenth time, the Beardsley relocate...but this time back into Frank's childhood hometown. It just so happens that there is a high school reunion coming up and Frank reunites with Helen. After a couple of nights together, Frank and Helen eloped...without telling their kids.
Now, Frank and Helen joined families...totally to 18 kids, 2 parents, a housekeeper and pets. Just imagine the chaos...especially with the kids not getting along together. Frank's kids are used to military commands and cleanliness. Helen's kids are used to being free with expression and space.
Funny and cute. However, some of it was a bit too cheesy, like with liquids (paint, etc.) spilling on top of people. If you like Nickelodeon, then this is for you.

very pleasant.......2007-01-16
the black stallion: a masterpiece! (rate: 5)
chitty chitty bang bang: my children appreciated it very much (rate: 3)
yours, mine and ours: very nice for the whole family (rate: 4)
love these, but..........2005-05-05
individually, i like all these movies, but WHY did they bundle the 3 together? hummmm.. 3 totally different genres. scratching my head on that one...
OK - you want a review - here it is:
chitty chitty bang bang - wonderful fun for the whole family. clean and happy, nice songs, sweet story. 4 1/2 stars.
the black stallion - great kid, great horse. stunning photography. love the music, love the beach scene the best. beautiful. a boy and a horse. it rocks. 5 stars. woo hoo.
yours mine and ours - Lucile ball, Henry Fonda. i love this movie. too many kids and the parents trying to handle it. good clean sweet fun. you'll laugh - you'll cry. you'll be glad you don't have 15 odd kids.
this movie is actually based on a true story. i read the book. they were a military family, stationed near Seattle, i believe, on whidby island, i think. anyway, the book was good too. you get a lot more detail on how to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for 15, in an assembly line in the morning before school.
and how do the parents get a minute alone together to conceive the "ours" of the story?! it's a hoot! 5 stars. love it.

Customer Reviews:
