This hilarious spoof on British costume dramas based on great literature stars Kate Beckinsale (Much Ado About Nothing) as a strong-willed, young woman named Miss Flora Poste, who finds herself orphaned and without means in the 1930s. Moving in with some half-savage relatives on a country farm, Flora is hardly daunted by their primitivism (as she might have been in a novel by Thomas Hardy) but instead takes charge and imposes hygiene, order, and good manners on the dirty, superstitious lot. John Schlesinger directs this brisk, infectious adaptation of the 1932 novel by Stella Gibbons. Beckinsale is wonderful, and the rest of the savvy, inspired cast perfectly send up a host of literary clichés. --Tom Keogh
Customer Reviews:
not quite the forsyte saga.......2007-06-11
a change of pace from director john schlesinger, more familiar for dark pieces like "darling" or "sunday bloody sunday", this is one of those off-beat british comedies wherein a supposedly "normal" person (herein kate beckinsale as an impoverished smart set 1930s girl) gets plopped down in the midst of a parochially isolated village replete with quirky characers. while lacking the bite of bill forsyths "local hero", it holds up quite nicely among the genre, and if you enjoy this type of movie, you will enjoy this one.
Cold Comfort Farm.......2007-05-14
I loved this film! I had made copy at one time from watching it on the telly, but decided that I needed my very on good copy. I recommend it for any and all who enjoy British sense of humor.
Dull.......2007-05-11
Amazon.com recommended that I watch this movie because I like I Capture the Castle. Amazon could not have been more wrong. It was so dull that I didn't even finish the DVD. I hope the book is more ingenious than this.
A wonderful, quirky comedy that holds up to many viewings-.......2007-05-08
The cast could not have been better! I try to loan this to friends that
need a few laughs. The relativly quiet start to the plot has a truly good payoff!
Sorry if my review isn't "helpful" (i.e., you don't agree with it) -- but this film is NOT FUNNY.......2007-05-03
I looked forward to COLD COMFORT FARM since I love British humor, and I love Joanna Lumley in AB FAB. I also liked Kate Beckinsale in HAUNTED. But this film ... what a disappointment!
COLD COMFORT FARM has a thin, empty, insubstantial quality. It no doubt imagines itself as witty, in an Oscar Wilde sort of way. Not!
The humor is best exemplified by the scene wherein the boyfriend tells the heroine that he owns a plane.
"You own a plane?" she asks. "Whatever for?"
"I think everyone should own a plane," he jokes.
"Oh Charles!" she laughs.
Yeah. Funny stuff. Real witty.
The "humor" is arbitrary, is based on nothing, and goes nowhere.
The film tries to build suspense about the dark deed that was done to Robert Post, but we never learn what it was. What's more, by the end of the film, I don't give a damn.
The heroine "solves" everyone's problems effortlessly, all the pieces falling into place. For instance, she invites a bigshot Hollywood producer for a visit. The producer is conveniently seeking a British farmboy type, yet he can't find one from among the tens of thousands of wannabes in Hollywood. He spots the perfect farmboy (the heroine's friend), who seems asleep when he's "discovered" as though he expected it and doesn't much care.
Of course, a silly non-plot may suffice for a comedy if it were a funny comedy, which this isn't. No laughs. Not even a polite chuckle. Maybe a half smile. A highly talented cast gone to waste.
The funniest scenes are when the heroine struggles to write a novel, and she keeps writing about those "golden orbs" (her metaphor for the sun). Ironically, her failed novel is funnier than this film.

Coasting on the successes of Gods and Monsters and George of the Jungle, Brendan Fraser turns in yet another winning performance in this fish-out-of-water comedy in which Pleasantville meets modern-day Los Angeles, with predictably funny results. Fraser stars as Adam, who was born in the bomb shelter of his paranoid inventor dad (a less-manic-than-usual Christopher Walken), who spirited his pregnant wife (Sissy Spacek, in fine comic form) underground when he thought the Communists dropped the bomb (actually, it was a plane crash). Armed with enough supplies to last 35 years, the parents bring up Adam in Leave It to Beaver style with nary any exposure to the outside world. When the supplies run out, and dad suffers a heart attack, Fraser goes up to modern-day L.A. for some shopping and long-awaited culture shock. More of a cute premise with lots of clever ideas attached than a fully fleshed out story, Blast from the Past is also supposed to be part romantic comedy, as the hunky Adam hooks up with his jaded Eve (Alicia Silverstone) and tries to convince her to marry him and go underground. The sparks don't fly, though, because Silverstone is saddled with the triple whammy of being miscast, playing an underwritten character, and suffering a very bad hairdo. Fraser, however, carries the film lightly and easily on his broad, goofy shoulders, mixing Adam's gee-whiz innocence with genuine emotion and curiosity; only Fraser could pull off Adam's first glimpse of a sunrise or the ocean with both humor and pathos. Also winning is Dave Foley as Silverstone's gay best friend, who manages to make the most innocuous statements sound like comic gems. --Mark Englehart

Charming, Funny and Hip!.......2007-09-07
Meet Adam Webber(Brendan Fraser, The Mummy, George of the Jungle), born and raised in a bomb shelter with his mad scientist father(Christopher Walken, Pulp Fiction) and his sherry swilling mother(Sissy Spacek, JFK). Adam's simple childhood has been filled with Perry Como records, The Honeymooners re-runs and good old-fashioned family values. Now, 35 years later, Adam is about to emerge into a bewildering modern world in search of supplies and a simple girl from Pasadena. Instead, Adam meets Eve(Alicia Silverstone, Clueless) a modern LA woman, jaded about life and burned by love. The result is an engaging romantic comedy that's charming, funny and hip!
Zany and Entertaining.......2007-08-28
Very enjoyable movie about a paranoid Father who is afraid of nuclear war, and the collision of errors that sends his family into a bomb shelter for 30 years. It is heartwarming, funny and romantic all rolled into one! And the Dad, he never learns!

Out Cold, which looks like it would be nothing more than a spectacular series of snowboarding stunts, is actually a homage to Casablanca set on a rustic Alaskan ski slope called Bull Mountain. Rick (Jason London from Dazed and Confused), who hopes to run Bull Mountain, can't forget about Anna, the French girl he romanced while vacationing in Mexico. When a ruthless developer (Lee Majors, star of The Six Million Dollar Man) wants to turn the rough-and-tumble site into a sleek, tourist-friendly resort named Snownook, Rick discovers that Anna is the developer's daughter. Will he be seduced to the dark side by love and ambition? Alongside scenes "borrowed" from Casablanca, there's an abundance of high jinks with Rick's slacker snow buddies, cute girls (including Playmate of the Year Victoria Silvstedt), and some pretty amazing snowboarding sequences. Dumb but good-natured fun, and Majors clearly enjoys himself as the bad guy. --Bret Fetzer
Description
This wild comedy is an intoxicating mix of mountain-high hilarity and radical winter sports action! For snowboarders Rick (Jason London -- DAZED AND CONFUSED), Luke (Zach Galifianakis -- BUBBLE BOY), and their buddies, life at the Bull Mountain ski area is about partying hard, looking for girls, and doing anything for a good time! But when the town's founder dies, his son decides to sell the mountain to a sleazy developer (Lee Majors -- TV's SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN) who's intent on turning Bull Mountain into a slick yuppie ski resort! Featuring outrageous stunts by real-life snowboarding champions like Todd Richards, Rio Tahara, Tara Dakides, Devun Walsh, and Rob "Sluggo" Boyce -- and a red-hot soundtrack -- it's an avalanche of laughs as the guys do whatever it takes to save their mountain.

No regrets thats my motto, that and everybody wang chung tonight.......2007-09-02
Out Cold is a one of my favorite movies to come out. My friend first introduced this movie to me and now I have watch it at least once a month if not more and I don't why I do it. My favorite scene in the movie is the Hot Tub scene with Luke loving it (tub) strong like, very funny. I am not going to explain the story so that is out the window. I recommend watching it and at first when I seen the dvd cover I did not think I would like but I got hooked right away so watch the movie and if you don't like then you wasted 90 minutes of your life (HAHAHAHA!) but I think you will like it.
great service!.......2007-06-12
the movie is awesome, and the service through amazon was great, they were fast and if anything goes wrong they are quick to solve it and they kept me in touch through email so that i knew what was goin on at all times. thank you
I own it too.......2007-05-12
I felt like I was watching a more upbeat version of Casablanca...it was funny and I would watch it again. Thus the reason I own it.
funny movie.......2007-01-30
This movie is a great movie full of laughs, i saw it a while ago and remembered it being good, so i bought it from amazon. I watched it again and it still was good, but it's not amazing, i kind of built it up to be more than what it is! But it's still a great flic! I'd recommend it for a good laugh!
Out of this world comedy.......2007-01-08
Winter sport and comedy lovers will find this predictable but hilarious. We all know the story. The cute misunderstood guys get their mountain (ski resort) in the end but the way they get it is very funny. Naturally there's a bad guy who tries to buy the mountain and commercialize it, and there is a love triangle just to appeal to everyone. The extreme skiing scenes will make you feel their pain while you're laughing. Don't let any of this keep you from seeing it. If you like comedies you owe it to yourself to see this one.

This implausible, but effective 1987 film stars Kevin Costner (Bull Durham, Wyatt Earp) as a naval officer and CIA agent who may not be what he seems. This sexy thriller is an espionage mystery and an enigmatic character study of two men trying to be faithful to the loyalties they hold. Costner begins a torrid love affair with the mistress (Sean Young) of the Secretary of Defense, but when she turns up dead, Costner is implicated in a web of intrigue that threatens national security and exposes personal secrets at the highest levels. The Secretary and his men try to cover up the affair while simultaneously searching for a Soviet mole in their ranks. Featuring an exciting chase sequence through the Washington, D.C., subways, No Way Out is a standard issue thriller that nonetheless keeps the action coming. --Robert Lane

Customer Reviews:
Best movie Kevin Costner has ever made! An exceptional film! .......2007-03-28
Shel Natowsky, Ph.D.
This movie is Costner's best, without any hesitation. The performances by Hackman and Sean Young are also flawless. Supporting roles are well honed, as well. The movie has everything you could want in a film...I mean everything! The screenplay is wonderfully written, acted, directed, and presented.
Why is it that movies as superb as this one is cannot be made anymore? Everytime I run it, it never ceases to thrill me and to amaze me. If you want to see a Cold War drama that never ceases to excite and one which moves at a fever's pace, then see this one. Satisfaction guaranteed! Well done people!
Kostner at his best........2007-01-09
This early Kostner film is Kostner at his best. It demonstrates his screen magnetism and established him as a star. Great tension, twists and turns. Not a typical Hollywood ending.Great casting.
If you love conspiracy, you will love this movie too!.......2006-02-16
This is one of the benchmark for the movies based on political drama and corruption in government departments. The story is about a secretary in Pentagon, and his attempts to cover-up the accidental killing of his mistress. The corrupt officers will not stop at anything to save the secretary from loosing his position. The defence secretary put Tom Farrell (Kevin Costner) in charge of the murder investigation and later uses him for the cover up by falsely accusing him of a being a KGB spy. The world around Farrell changes, as the people he was supposed to trust turns out to be corrupt and partners with the defence secretary. Go for this movie if you like the conspiracy and political thriller because till date very few movies are made up to this mark.
High caliber thriller!.......2005-09-30
Desire and seduction, murder and cover up, scandal and intrigue, half truths and false promises of patriotism; where the duty lies beyond the flatter and the appearance must become a politically correct matter. In this sense this Neo Noir Film transcends the anecdote in a very linked similar profile with classics of the genre such as Pick Up on South Street or Kiss me deadly where the personal destinies are tied with the another dark side of the ethic.
Costner is an actor who is not precisely among my favorite ones, but I must acknowledge all the possible credits for this role, the alluring, irresistible and captivating of Sean Young as Femme Fatale and the worthy acting of Will Patton plus the presence of this giant actor as Hackman making of the sophisticated villain conform a magnificent cast that support the admirable camera work of Roger Donaldson who made until now, his most interesting work.
A magnificent remake of the Big Clock.
One of Costner's First Good Films.......2005-05-26
Roger Donaldson's 1987 film regarding the intrigues of the Department of Defense and the Pentagon starring Kevin Costner, Sean Young, and Gene Hackman.
Costner is a navy officer and C.I.A. operative who starts having a risky relationship with the mistress (Sean Young) of the Secretary of Defense (Gene Hackman.) When the Secretary of Defense accidentally kills her, Costner is made a scape goat to cover up the potential scandal: he's accused of being a KGB mole. The story then becomes a cat-and-mouse game between the U.S. Government and Costner on the run.
This is certainly one of Costner's better movies and the film carries the suspense quite well. Costner's limited acting talents are also complemented by those of Gene Hackman. This is a better movie to rent as it counts on mystery to carry the suspense which is resolved at the end of the film.

Yet another bad movie in a lengthy string of losers for all three of the principals involved here: director John Landis and stars Dan Aykroyd and Chevy Chase. Chase and Aykroyd play a pair of bumbling would-be CIA agents who are spotted cheating on the entrance exam. So the CIA decides to use them as bait in a mission to flummox the Russians. Lots of pointless slapstick and mugging, but Landis hasn't made a genuinely funny film since Trading Places. Aykroyd and Chase seem smug and self-satisfied (don't they always?), as though they can rest forever on laurels earned during the 1975 season of Saturday Night Live. Look for a gaggle of film directors (Terry Gilliam, Joel Coen, Costa-Gavras) in cameo roles: that's the closest this film comes to cleverness. --Marshall Fine
Customer Reviews:
Intelligence insulting.......2007-08-07
I was extremely disappointed with this film. It's a terrible shame because I love Dan Akroyd! It just wasn't funny at all. At some points I was bored to the point of wanting to go to sleep. Chase and Akroyd's characters never reached the potential they seemed to have at the beginning of the film, and the attempts at humor were ridiculous (in a bad way). I'm not sure how this has 4 stars here on amazon. I generally love comedies and am rarely ever disappointed with a movie, but that's exactly what happened with this one. Surely pass this one up.
"We mock what we don't understand".......2007-05-25
How unique to see a movie in which Dan Aykroyd looks short!
There's nothing terribly wrong with "Spies Like Us". The plot is perfectly sound as the basis for a comedy, and Chase and Aykroyd do their best with the material. The problem is that it's just not that funny. There are only a handful of the laugh-out-loud moments that should serve as justification for the whole enterprise.
Another problem is that Chase's character is so hopelessly incompetent that he makes no contribution to the characters' mission whatsoever. Aykroyd's character could have done the whole thing by himself. This characteristic is not shared by "Ghostbusters" or even "The Blues Brothers", in which all the leading characters have particular technical and/or social skills that are essential to the success of the team. As an Aykroyd fan I'm always happy to see him playing courageous and competent characters, but Austin Millbarge is arguably **too** perfect; he doesn't have any of the kind of peculiarities that Aykroyd can get his teeth into as an actor, like Ray Stantz's childlike nature in "Ghostbusters" or Mother's outrageous conspiracy theories in "Sneakers".

Lame.......2006-07-18
When John Belushi died in 1982, he left Dan Aykroyd with several scripts and the sad end to what could have been a great comedy team like Laurel & Hardy or Abbott & Costello.
Aykroyd filled John's spot in GHOSTBUSTERS with Bill Murray and hit comedy gold.
He filled SPIES LIKE US with Chevy Chase and came up snake eyes.
View at your own risk. At least it's not as bad as NOTHING BUT TROUBLE, easily one of the worst comedies ever made.
Spies like Us.......2006-07-03
I love this movie with a Paul McCartney song. I received it fast and at a great price.

Writer and director Whit Stillman (Metropolitan, The Last Days of Disco) offers up this poignant and cutting romantic 1990 comedy set in the magical southern Spanish metropolis, a city in the midst of cultural and political upheaval. Taylor Nichols (Metropolitan) plays an American living in the Catalonian capital working for a stateside company. He is visited by his unctuous cousin (Chris Eigeman), a naval attaché who's in Barcelona to spin a little public relations for the impending arrival of the U.S. fleet amid some virulent left-wing, anti-American attitude. The two cousins are constantly at odds, arguing about everything from politics to women to their true feelings for one another and their constant self-examination. Largely the two men spend their time in search of romance abroad, as they humorously overanalyze the women they meet and what they want from a relationship, until fate takes a shocking turn and both men are forced to reevaluate who they are and what they want out of life. Barcelona features a turn from Mira Sorvino (Mighty Aphrodite) as a Spanish national working as a hostess, free with her sexuality and smitten with Eigeman. Stillman's writing is as crisp and observant as his striking visual take on the city and its people, both natives and expatriates. Barcelona is a terrific comedy of attitudes and culture clashes that manages to be offbeat, sardonic, and unexpectedly wise. --Robert Lane
Customer Reviews:
We need films like this in times like these.......2006-11-06
For an American expat living in Europe, Barcelona's complex sense of indignation and resignation at how Americans are viewed abroad rings true. Beautifully written, and shot like a love letter to its titular city, this excellent, intelligent film helps me find a way to laugh through the tears. I recently bought Stillman's earlier film, Metropolitan, and I found that it has held up, if anything, slightly better than Barcelona as time has passed. In both films the dialogue is marvellous, and the characters familiar. Where is Whit Stillman now, anyway? We need him. Get to work, Whit!
A must see.......2006-10-25
This witty and very intelligent comedy is a slice of life of two 30-something Americans in Spain. Ted's an awkward, yet successful sales representative, who's down on his luck with the ladies. As a result, he plunges himself into a series of self-help methods as well as religion. After an unexpected, late night phone call, his cousin Fred, a junior naval officer, and the quintessential ugly-American, who's got no problem forcing his two-cents on anyone, ends up staying with him. Ted's not happy with this, as he still blames Fred for the loss of his kayak when they were preteens, so early on he asks Fred how long he plans to stay, because "guests, like fish, begin to smell after three days." Fred answers, "no, you'll find that I stink on the first day." And this basically sums up their relationship throughout the movie. So the two basically play on each other's nerves, fumble through some relationships with a few ladies, give us a glimpse at Barcelona's nightlife, and offer a heck of an insight on the cultural differences between the U.S. and Spanish. In the end they patch up their relationship, get their girls and seemingly live happily ever after--but not after some really funny, and even tragic, moments.
It helps to have an understanding of the Spanish and their view of Americans, so many viewers might not catch some of the subtle jokes. If you're expecting a comedy in the vein of Animal House, then this isn't your movie. But if you're looking for flick that will tickle your intellectual funny bone, then grab your Pringles and pop this one in. You won't be sorry.
Whit Stillman a Republican? Maybe, but it doesn't show........2006-02-17
I read in a recent review that Whit Stillman is a Republican. This film certainly doesn't show it, as it pokes fun at ignorant US imperialism just as much as it does at the ignorance of some European leftists of the late 1970s and early 1980s. I myself am what most Americans would probably describe as a radical leftie or communist (I prefer the anarchist label myself). Anyway, perhaps Stillman really believes the political stuff his pro-US characters spout, but whatever the intention, what comes across is not exactly positive, and his politically conservative US characters act with just as much cluelessness about Europeans as his politically progressive European characters do towards the US.
Anyway, Barcelona has been one of my favourite films ever since I first saw it in the theatres when it first came out. It has some very dry humour and I think one of the messages I get from the movie is that it shows very well how political differences only serve to get in the way of the realities of human relationships, especially when violent fanaticism (of either political stripe) gets in the way.
On a personal note, I happened to be in Barcelona a couple of years after the events in the film supposedly happened, and I must say the movie does exhibit a real feel for the city, although my own personal experiences there left me with the impression that it wasn't the hotbed of political radicalism that Stillman's film conveys. In fact I was struck more by the remaining aspects of Franco's fascist regime than by any sense of broiling radicalism. But I guess a lot can change in a couple of years, and I really wasn't there long enough to get a real overview of the political situation.
Whit, Please Come Back!.......2005-07-10
First things first, Whit Stillman should be making movies until he dies. Let's get that guy back behind the camera for the good of everybody. Barcelona, as a film, is deceptively serious as, amid its banal conversations about the proper way to shave and management theory, grave subjects are illuminated.
The reflexive anti-Americanism of Spain and Europe are integral to many of the interactions experienced by Taylor and Eigeman, the two main characters. It's at the end of The Cold War and Spain is conflicted over NATO. A humorous side light concerning this situation is made by Eigeman, "I think it's well-known that anti-Americanism has its roots in sexual impotence, at least in Europe." Eigeman's presence in the uniform of a US Naval officer in the Barcelona streets has somewhat predictable results. Yet, no one is able to refute his point that even if the Spaniards don't like NATO, they would never prefer the Soviets rolling through Western Europe instead. The conspiracy theories that some of the Spanish poseurs spout are quite bankrupt on their surface (such as the existence of a right-wing labor union called the AFL-CIA).
On an aesthetic level, this is a beautiful film. Shots of the grand buildings that comprised old Catalonia are breathtaking. The outfits and faces of the trade show girls are just as riveting. I think Stillman succeeds in capturing some of the city's nobility within these frames.
The Spanish women are a mystery to both Eigeman and Taylor, but, with Taylor, the audience is constantly present as he overanlyzes emotions which few words could possibly describe. You have the feeling though that a character like Taylor's would be a foreigner in any land he visited. Thanks for this one, Mr. Stillman, now go make six more.
One of my All Time Favorites .......2005-06-15
This film made a very deep impression on me as, although I'm originally from Canada, I always introduce myself as "from New York" when I visit Europe, and I have experienced the same kind of anti-Americanism that is lampooned in this film. Also, for about 13 years (before I got married), I made numerous trips to Europe, met lots and lots of European women, and had some of the same experiences with them as the characters in this film: Two American cousins (Fred, a naval officer, and Ted, a Christian Sales Exec) who are sharing an apartment in Barcelona, while searching for members of the opposite sex.
Ted meets the woman of his dreams, only to find out, while lying in bed with her, that she is living with another man. Just when this problem seems to have been overcome, Fred opens his big mouth and places Ted's hopes of marrying the woman in jeopardy.
After being falsely accused of being a CIA agent in the Barcelona press, Fred is falsely accused of stealing a large amount of money by Ted, is kicked out of the apartment, catches his girlfriend in bed with another man, and then suffers an even greater tragedy as the film climaxes.
While I haven't had any similar experiences during my trips to Spain, I have been accused of being a CIA agent in Finland, and, in both Finland and Sweden, bedded women only to find out afterwards that they were married or living with men. (I slept with a married woman in Denmark too, but she told me beforehand.)
Whit Stilman's films rely heavily on dialogue, and the dialogue is highly interesting and stimulating, as well as funny. He's a kind of American Eric Rohmer, except with much more humor. Stilman knows Spain well as he has spent a lot of time there. (His wife is from Spain.)
I have seen this film three times, and with each repeat viewing I notice something new. For example, at one point in the film, Fred picks up some papers off of Ted's desk at the office and asks, "What are all these red dots on your work?" It was only on the third viewing that I noticed, earlier in the film, that while the two cousins are conversing in their apartment, Ted's motivational tapes that are playing in the background instruct the listener to mark his work with a red dot every time he picks it up, to encourage him to complete the work the first time.
This film would be on my top ten list of favorite movies of all time. (It's so good that it might even appear on my top one list.)

Pretty good for Moore.......2007-06-14
Not my favorite Bond, but the story was good.
Back to Basics.......2007-01-06
After James Bond's outer space adventure and other outrageousness, 007 returns to earth. Roger Moore tries getting a tougher image in FOR YOUR EYES ONLY. John Barry is once again absent and Bill Conti is brought in to score. It seems to have all worked but the film does seem to run out of steam near the end.
Roger Moore IS James Bond.......2007-01-06
Returning to a more reality based story Roger Moore is James Bond once again. This film ties its itself to where ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE left off. Bond has some unfinished buisiness to take care of in the pre-title squence and then this Cold War plot takes off from there. There is a lot of action and Bill Cont's score works well with it. This is the one Roger Moore Bond film that fits in with some of the best.
Q provided 007 with the fastest, most maneuverable vehicle possible: the world's smallest jet the Acrostar..........2006-12-31
A British fishing trawler/surveillance ship, on duty in the Ionian Sea, is sunk by an old World War II mine caught in her fishing nets...
Lost in the wreck is a top secret missile launching device which soon becomes 'something of value' in a characteristic British-Russian confrontation...
007 is seen caught in a cold-blooded feud between two Greek ex-partisans... He has to recover a transmitter that could fall into the wrong hands... He is sent to climb up the cliffs below an abandoned monastery complex, and is aided by a vigorous and decided sharpshooter whose expertise with a crossbow proved vital...
Throughout the mission 007 is aided by the brave Melina Havelock, a perfect Bond heroine determined to avenge her parents at all costs... Melina Havelock is a combination of Tilly Masterson from 'Goldfinger' and Domino from 'Thunderball.' Melina comes upon a much bigger plot, involving 007 and a Russian-British race to regain the A.T.A.C.
As Bond, Roger Moore finally gets his hair messed up, and more... He is at the mercy of a bald figure in a wheelchair who controls his destiny; chased by ski-borne motorcycles; assailed by spear-carrying fishermen and unlucky hockey players; attacked by sharks and enemy divers; tied up and dragged behind a boat along the sharp corals...
The film succeeds in introducing many mysterious characters... Three of them are:
Milos Columbo (Topol) who becomes the incarnation of Bond's old friend Kerim Bey... Known as 'The Dove,' Columbo is a pistachio-chewing Greek smuggler, ex-resistance fighter, and casino owner on the Greek island in the Aegean Sea... Between him and Kristatos, there is blood feud dating back to World War II, when both fought the Nazis as resistance fighters on Crete...
Ari Kristatos (Julian Glover) who manages to hide his treacherous nature behind a veneer of sophistication... Kristatos comes across as the most believable Bond villain in years... He introduces himself as an enthusiastic Anglophile who was a resistance fighter during the Second World War, and apparently uses Bond to murder his smuggling rival while scheming to please the KGB...
Bibi Dahl (Lynn Holly Johnson) who would do anything for Bond! She is the American figure-skating prodigy who meets 007 in Cortina D'Ampezzo, where at one point was invitingly in 007's bed...
Hate and revenge play significant part in this twelfth James Bond film... "For Your Eyes Only" follows the adventure and exotic appeal of earlier Bond movies like 'From Russia with Love' and 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service'. The result is a delightful spy adventure with plenty of intriguing characters, plot twists, and romance...
The best entry of Moore' s cycle.......2006-12-10
Many fans of Moore consider it the best of his cycle as 007. And there are many reasons to support it; spectacular chases, sumptuous locations, the presence of the fascinating beauty of Carole Bouquet, the undeniable fact the main title has been one of the four best song of the series (From Russia with love, Thunderball and Goldfinger) and the first incursion of this funny steeled teeth giant.
Anyway, you will never be disappointed.

Out Cold
ASIN: B0000633TZ
Release Date: 2002-05-21 |
Amazon.com
