Customer Reviews:
Major League 2.......2007-06-03
It was a pretty good movie and I enjoyed seeing it again, but why were they playing in Baltimore's Camden Yards? Cleveland Municipal was still open, but Jacobs' Field wasn't opened until 1994.
Major League 2.......2006-07-18
Ok. As this movie follows on from the first Major League movie, expect laughs and a couple of new faces. It continues with the same players who end up coming back to play for another season. The "Wild Thing" has gone commercial, is always looking at selling something, you have Roger Dorn who now owns the team and is slowly going bankrupt. The team morale is down and they end up on a losing streak and then the witch comes back and buys the team back again. Watch for the part with the japanese warrior and pedro exchanging the phrase of "losing your marbles". Great movie for those who are interested in a quick laugh while enjoying watching baseball.
The Indians Are Back!.......2006-01-15
The boys from Cleveland are back to prove that last year's team was no fluke in this great sequel film. After winning their divison, the Indians were defeated by the Chicago White Sox in the ALCS. After losing, team owner Rachel Phelps (Margaret Whitton) sold the team to former third baseman Roger Dorn (Corbin Bernsen). Roger then brought in high-priced free agent catcher Jack Parkman (David Keith) to bolster the Indians line up. However, incumbent catcher Jake Taylor (Tom Berenger) is still on the team, along with another catching prospect, Rube Baker (Eric Brushotter). Pedro Cerrano (Dennis Haysbert), Willie Mays Hayes (Omar Epps), and Rick "Wild Thing" Vaughn (Charlie Sheen) also return from last year's team, along with manager Lou Brown (James Gammon).
Hayes starred in his own action movie in the off-season, and also tried turning into a power hitter, much to the chagrin of manager Brown. Cerrano discovered Buddhism, and now treats everybody as a friend, even the opposing players during a game. Jake's knees finally got the best of him, but Lou asks him to stay on as a coach. Roger soon finds out that he's in way over his head. He overpaid Rachel for the team, and now he has only enough money left for two months of operations. His first move is to trade Parkman to the hated White Sox for outfielder Isuro Tanaka (Takashi Ishibashi). Tanaka immediately challenges Cerrano, saying he has "no marbles". Roger's second move is to re-sell the team back to Rachel, much to the horror of everyone else! Rick Vaughn has shed his "Wild Thing" image. He and his agent/girlfriend Rebecca Flannery (Alison Doody) have concentrated on getting commercial advertisements and endorsement opportunities. Meanwhile, Rick has lost a lot of the zip off of his once-blazing fastball, and he's now getting hit hard by opposing teams.
Their season starts out rather slowly, just like the previous year, and to make matters worse, Lou Brown suffers a heart attack and is forced to step down as manager. Jake is given the job as manager in Lou's absence, and it falls on his shoulders to mold the team back into winners. Will Jake be able to get the team back on track. Will Rick, Willie, and Pedro re-discover their lost talents?
Many times, sequels fail to live up to the success of the original film, but that is not the case with this excellent movie. Major League 2 is every bit as good as the original. Having everyone except Wesley Snipes back from the first movie helped to make this movie so much fun to watch, and Omar Epps does a fantastic job taking over for Snipes as Willie Mays Hayes. Newcomers David Keith (Parkman), Takashi Ishibashi (Tanaka), and Eric Brushotter (Baker) add new flavor with their new characters, and Bob Uecker returns as the zany Indians announcer Harry Doyle.
I give this movie my highest recommendation. Baseball fans will surely enjoy watching the Indians in their chase to win the World Series.
Not up to the standards of the original.......2005-12-21
While the original film was great and is one of my all-time favcorites, this sequel in no way comes up to the same standards of humor or storyline. In fact, it comes off as a blatant attempt to squeeze a few more dollars off of the original films followers. You don't need to believe me. Try renting it before you put down hard-earned cash on this wannabe...
good to the last drop.......2005-08-31
always somewhat skeptical when it comes to sequels. major league 2 right on target. answers some questions from number one and makes you keep laughing. good, good, good

Description
Baseball is a funny game - even more so when the team of flameouts and flamethrowers that went from worst to first returns in Major League II for another swing at America's pastime. Reckless reliever Wild Thing (Charlie Sheen), gimpy catcher Jake (Tom Berenger) and slugger Pedro (Dennis Haysbert) cope with fame and its perks as they set out to prove their previous season wasn't a fluke. They don't throw screwballs in Major League: Back to the Minors. They put them in uniform. A veteran pitcher-turned-manager (Scott Bakula) aims to turn his team from a laughing stock into the equivalent of blue-chip stocks in this romp that includes returning stars Haysbert and Corbin Bernsen. Also appearing in both films is Bob Uecker, who provides cockeyed commentary as fan's fan and play-by-play man Harry Doyle. Major fun!

Arguably more defined and even more lyrical than its predecessor (When It Was a Game), this HBO documentary moves from a general celebration of baseball culture in America to a specific focus on various facets of the game's history. Once again using footage compiled from the 8mm and 16mm collections that players and fans shot over decades, this sequel follows, among other things, the special relationship between game announcers and fans and takes a fascinating trip through the story of the farm-team system during the 1930s, '40s, and '50s (particularly the near-alternate world of the Coast League). There's also an enlightening sidebar about the old disparity of capital and profits among major-league teams (as opposed to the contemporary disparity), and about how each season's funding shortages took a toll on such lowly outfits as the Boston Braves and the St. Louis Browns. The working-class commonality of players and fans is examined, too: imagine taking the subway home from Ebbets Field and finding yourself looking back on the day's game with a Dodger outfielder. (It could, and often did, happen.) Brooklyn's assimilation of the Dodgers into their community identity, a story often told, is covered quite winningly here, as is the heartbreak of the team's desertion to sunny California. Closing in on its final minutes, the film takes us on a tour of some of the game's legends and presents a touching tribute to the extraordinary Babe Ruth. --Tom Keogh
Customer Reviews:
More color home movies of baseball players (1925-1961).......2003-05-21
The initial joy of seeing baseball players like Lou Gehrig and retired greats like Honus Wagner, Ty Cobb and Cy Young in living color is worn off when you get to volume 2 of "When It Was a Game," but this is still a captivating look into the past. The time frame for these collected home movies from players and fans on 8mm and 16mm film is a bit broader this time around, going back to 1925 and forward to 1961, which means the oldest shots are actually in black & white and seem rather out of place, because once again the thrill here is seeing players and ballparks in glorious color. There is Hank Aaron wearing the great looking uniform of the Boston Braves, old Crosley Field in its green splendor, and Babe Ruth making his final appearance in a Yankee uniform at the Stadium. There is a bit more effort this time to have the disembodied voices talking about subjects that sort of match up to the images on the screen, such as Joe Garagiola talking about graffiti on an outfield billboard, Enos Slaughter explaining why he always ran on and off the field, and the story of catcher Moe Berg being a government spy while barnstorming with Connie Mack in Japan. There is a nice section on what lfie was like the Pacific Coast League when major league baseball did not exist west of St. Louis.
But whether you actually listen to what is being said or tune it out will not affect your enjoyment of these nostalgic images. At the end of these hour-long HBO documentaries, when they simply show shots of various ballplayers and superimpose their names, that is the essence of what makes "When It Was a Game" so special. There is Jackie Robinson in color, Hank Greenberg in color, Mel Ott in color, and so on and so forth. Even when it is someone we are used to see in color, such as Yogi Berra or Willie Mays, we are still talking a young Yogi and a young "Say Hey" Kid. A lot of the action is off field-baseball players in Spring Training wearing bathing suits and cleats, Yogi and some other Yankees sticking out their tongues for the camera, the Chicago Cubs in a parade before the start of a World Series game-but that does not detract from our enjoyment of these simple film clips spliced together.
moving documentary.......2003-04-24
All 3 WIWAG are excellent. This is more than just a well put together documentary. Its very moving because of the footage, narration and music. You don't feel like you are watching a DVD about baseball. It feels like you are watching a snapshot of Americana from the 50's and 60's. After watching this, you wish that things today were as they were back in those days. Not just baseball or sports, but life in general as it was protrayed in the DVDs.
The best baseball movie of all time........1999-10-26
This is no Hollywood baseball movie. This is the real deal. Exquisite colors and poetic comments from those who played baseball the way it should be played- as a game.
