From "Wayne's World" to the creepy hilarity of "Sprockets" and its slinky German host Dieter, this 16-sketch compilation showcases Mike Myers in his Saturday Night Live prime. Wayne Campbell and his sidekick Garth (Dana Carvey) are featured in two memorable sketches, jamming with Aerosmith and enjoying a sexy dream sequence with the babelicious Madonna. The Material Girl shows up again as the daughter of "Coffee Talk" hostess Linda Richman (who was inspired by Myers's mother-in-law), in a choice sketch with Roseanne, featuring a cameo by Barbra Streisand which is, as Linda would say, "like buttah."
More obscure sketches show Myers at his most bizarre, charming, and experimental. "Lothar of the Hill People" challenged network censors with not-so-subtle allusions to masturbation and female genitalia, while Myers's penchant for all things British is frequently indulged, including spot-on send-ups of Ron Wood and Mick Jagger. His portrayal of a hypoglycemic, hyperactive 6-year-old--complete with safety helmet and restraining harness--is both outrageously funny and more than a little dangerous. (It's a miracle that guest host Nicole Kidman keeps a straight face as she feeds the "kid" a chocolate bar, with the expected results.) And while other sketches such as "Middle Aged Man" were not likely to follow Wayne and Dieter to big-screen success, they show Myers doing what he does best: conceiving original characters and pushing them to comedic extremes. --Jeff Shannon

Great fun, but could have been better.......2007-01-05
While this was seriously funny it didn't include his funniest stuff. Maybe it's a matter of taste. Either way, this is a great buy.
TOUCH MY MONKEY!!!! TOUCH IT!!!!!.......2006-10-27
This DVD makes me 'as happy as a little GIRRRL!' The DVD whets your appetite, as it includes some of Mike Myers' better skits. 'Sprockets' and 'Cawfee Tawk' is worth the price of the DVD and then some.
Overplaying the Star Aspect.......2006-09-18
I used to own the VHS version of this, but threw it away when I realized that it had very few funny sketches on it. I agree with some of the other reviewers who said that it just seems like they went for the sketches with the most famous people in them. I saw the Coffee Talk sketch with Madonna and Roseanne and Barbra Streisand when it first aired; I didn't think it was funny then and I don't think it's funny now. I found it totally boring. I know there were better Coffee Talk segments.
I found the Wayne's World segment with Tom Hanks and Aerosmith to be pretty boring and not very funny, ditto with the Danny DeVito episode of Simon. The best episode of Simon that there ever was was the one with Macaulay Culkin, hands down.
Lothar of the Hill People is one of the stupidest things I have ever had to sit through, and the thing with Ron Wood, Liam Neeson, and Nell was stupid also.
I loved the Mick Jagger sketch and I think that Philip the Hyper-Hypo is hilarious. I had a cousin who was sort of like Philip when I was growing up, and he used to come over and destroy everything in our house.
The other one that almost made me soil myself the first time I saw it was the British play review with Steve Martin and Dana Carvey and (I think) Eric Idle. That is one of my favorite single sketches in the history of SNL...the world--BANG! the wooorrrllld!
Some classic skits and characters.......2006-08-21
There are some pretty great characters here in this collection of Mike Myers' years on SNL from 1989-1995 and one monologue from his hosting in 1997.
Some great characers featured in here are Wayne Campbell, Dieter in Sprockets, Lothat of the Hill People, Simon, and of course my favorite, Middle-Aged Man. All the skits here are very funny and very entertaining. I highly recommend this dvd.
Saturday Night Live: The Best of Mike Myers (Bonus Edition).......2006-05-31
I really don't know why this is called the bonus edition. I think you find that many people are saying that these are'nt really the best sketches, but from my experience these Saturday Nigt Live Best of Series are not strictly comprehensive. Mike Myers for instance has done so many high quality gut busting sketches that to take a sample of ten means that automatically many favorites don't make it.
It is worth the dollars and cents though. My name is Simon and I like to do drawings with Danny Devito, English play review with Mikey Rooney and Steve Martin, Dito and Sprockets, Nicole Kidman and the boy with the harness who can't have choclate, and some English toothpaste which is good on crackers, and ofcourse Coffe Talk with Roseanne Barr, Maddona and oh my gosh...
Also Lothar of the Hill people and Mike as Mick from the Rolling Stones with Keith Richards played by the real Mick "Mick you ignorant [...]"
Hey how can you go wrong with Mike Myers. If you are looking for a cure all full line up of great sketches you will be disapointed but the DVD is a good apetizer portion.

Amazon.com essential video
No other person has been a guest on Saturday Night Live as many times as the inimitable Steve Martin, which is what makes SNL's Best of Steve Martin compilation the finest of the series. This collection gives us not only clips of some of the show's funniest moments, but also a sense of how the show has evolved from the 1970s. Earlier monologues were rougher, less staged, but absolutely out of control in the best way, as Martin is given free rein to unleash his "happy feet," play the banjo, and generally explore his zaniness. The earliest clip dates from 1976 and the latest from the mid-'90s, showcasing the program's greatest players throughout the seasons--Chevy Chase, Laraine Newman, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Mike Meyers, Dana Carvey, Nora Dunn, David Spade, Jon Lovitz. The beloved classics are here, from "King Tut," with complete Egyptian regalia, to the arrow through the head to, of course, a "wild and crazy guy." Not enough for you? Well, "excuuuuuuse me." Also included are the Coneheads at home (with Martin playing a hapless IRS agent), "Jeopardy 1999," "Common Knowledge" (one of the wittiest SNL sketches ever), and ads for "Rise" and for "Steve Martin's Penis Cream." This collection will satisfy longtime SNL fans and is a great way to show newer fans what comedy is really about. --Jenny Brown
Description
Although he was never a cast member on SNL, Steve Martin currently holds the record for number of times hosting the show. From his early days as a stand-up to becoming a household name, Steve Martin has played many memorable and hilarious characters such as "wild and crazy guy", Jorge Festrunk, Theodoric Of York, Tightwad 007, and paid homage to King Tut through song. He also played himself in sketches. Whether peddling a special kind of beauty cream, attempting to renegotiate his contract in the middle of a live show, or doing his infamous banjo-playing monologue with an arrow through his head, Steve Martin is undoubtedly one of the most successful hosts in SNL history.
Customer Reviews:
Steve Martin, a bust.......2007-08-07
Really disappointed with these clips. Some were very funny, but overall, it seemed to be lacking the best of Steven Martin on SNL. The SNL TV ad DVD is much funnier than this.
Saturday Night Live - The Best of Steve Martin.......2007-06-28
I could have sworn I once thought Steve Martin was funny. Either I was stoned when I thought he was funny or they left the funny stuff off this DVD.
The "Least" of Steve Martin.......2007-05-28
Were there several different versions of this title made? How did I get the lemon?
This DVD is a real "rip-off"! In approximately 30 minutes I had seen every thing on it and, believe me, I was very disappointed. There was no King Tut and no banjo playing and that is why I bought it in the first place. If it had King Tut and nothing else it would have been worth the purchase price. I went through it three times and could not find it.
Take my advice and pass on this one. It is terrible.
Hit and Miss..........2007-04-14
I've purchased several of these "Best of
" SNL videos, and so far it's been hit and miss as far as the choices they make for which skits to include on the DVD. The "Best of Tom Hanks" has so far been the most disappointing, and the "Best of Alec Baldwin" has been so far the most pleasing, and this "Best of Steve Martin" falls somewhere inbetween.
Still, if you are a Steve Martin fan, this is certainly worth purchasing, especially for the "King Tut" classic, and for the banjo monologue and for the hilarious competition between Steve and Alec for the record of most times as a host of SNL. I'd probably give this one 3 1/2 stars if that was an option.
The development of a comedic icon..........2007-03-27
Apparently, Steve Martin holds the current (2007) record for the number of times a particular person hosted Saturday Night Live. Given that his "tour of duty" began in 1976 and his obvious talent as a stand-up comedian, this shouldn't be that surprising.
This DVD contains SNL skits from the beginning, the middle, and the end of this 30 year period, including some of my early favorites, "King Tut," "Theodoric Of York, Medieval __________," "Two Wild and Crazy Guys," his "Excuuuze, ME! routine," and some "ram......BLING" banjo playing. Classic, classic SNL stuff.
This is a well-edited collection that will stave off any withdrawal symptoms as you finish SNL, the complete first season, and wait for season 2.

The Best of Chris Farley blasts through 68 minutes of the wildly hilarious characters the comic actor created while with Saturday Night Live in the early 1990s. Farley was a comedic gem--not only because he created such bizarre, repulsively funny characters, such as Matt Foley, Motivational Speaker, or Lori Davis, cosmetics infomercial queen, but because he lived completely inside the character, delivering lines with whatever fury, stupidity, hypertension, insecurity, or femininity the situation demanded. Clearly, Farley loved making people laugh and he wasn't afraid to use his big bulk to do it, whether it entailed stripping as a Chippendale's dancer, belly flopping on coffee tables, rolling around on a couch as Tom Arnold, or punching his forehead in dismay on the "Chris Farley Show." What's great about this collection is all of those characters appear; what's disappointing is that some don't linger long enough, while others appear a bit too long. The cafeteria-lady number could've been cut short in lieu of a longer Tom Arnold segment, or Herlihy Boy could've been removed altogether in favor of complete "Chris Farley Show" segments. Still, if you forgot how side-splitting Farley's portrayal of Dom DeLuise or the French-fry-stuffing Gap girl was, this video will happily jog your memory. --Karen Karleski
Customer Reviews:
HA HA HA HA GET IT!!!!.......2007-04-23
Other than the last sketch that drags on & on, the entire DVD will leave you grasping your stomach in hilarity. Speaking of stomachs, Chris' is apparent throughout.
My favorite is the chipendales sketch. It's worth it just for that.

Chris Farley was AWESOME!!!.......2006-04-08
I'm a big fan of Farley and this DVD is great, except for the omission of a skit that aired when they first played this show on television the Saturday after his death. It has always been one of my favorite Farley skits. David Hyde Pierce, Jeanane Garofalo, and David Spade are all in it with Farley, in a late 19th Century village where they are all prim and proper and go ice skating, Chris falls through the ice and starts yelling and carrying on in typical Farley fashion yelling at Garofalo 'what do mean whatever shall you do, save me you stupid whore!!' I would have given the DVD 5 stars but the fact that they altered it to add the skit of the interview with some Wilson Phillips stuff or whatever (i just FF that skit, i despise it) and the omission of the Ice Fall Skit have kept me from giving it 5 stars. You won't be disapppointed, it's a great DVD though...
Even If You Live In A Van Down By The River, You'll Love It.......2005-03-14
Chris Farley was on "Saturday Night Live" for five years. During that time, he blessed the show with some of its most memorable moment, from the Chippendales audition to Matt Foley, motivational speaker to the Super Fans, everything he did was uprorarious. Inspired by John Belushi, Chris was also arguably the show's best physical comedian, a trait hebecame well known for. Sadly, Chris died of a drug overdose in 1997, only 34 years old. However, his rich legacy lives on with "Saturday Night Live - The Best Of Chris Farley".
All of the great moments I've talked about are here - Chippendales, Matt Foley, Todd O'Conner, and so much more. Some of the lesser known bits had me in stitches as well. Chris was hilarious as Andrew Giuliani, pouncing all over Kevin Nealon (as Mayor Giuliani), making fart noises, etc. This is probably my favorite cold opening of all time. The "Lunchlady Land" musical skit may be just another way to show off Adam Sandler's hilarious songwriting talents, but Farley steals the show as the portly lunchlady (mole and all) rocking out as Sandler endless spews out choruses about sloppy joes and hoagies and grinders. And my mom absolutely loves the "Focus On Beauty" sketch (unfortunately this sketch has been heavily truncated due to time).
I do have a few bones to pick, however. The dvd says that includes all of Chris's famous characters are here. Well, that's a bit of an overstatement. Some only appear breifly in short montages. For example, Chris's chubby 1/3 of the Gap Girls, Cindy Crawford, was as much a part of that sketch as Adam Sandler and David Spade was, and to have her relegated for appearing 30 seconds tops in the drag montage was a cheat. Likewise, I thought the "Zagat's" sketch was hysterical, but it too is featured briefly in the same montage. Also, two characters Chris did often alongside Chris Rock, B-Fats (from I'm Chillin'") and Sandman (from "The Dark Side With Nat X") are nowhere to be found.
Despite these minor complaints, this is an excellent look at one of "SNL's" finest. We all miss you Chris.
A funny, funny man...........2005-03-09
Finally had a chance to watch this Chris Farley DVD last night. Like the other two I own (Will Farrel and Phil Hartman), it had some very funny moments, and a couple of not-so-funny moments. I thought the "super fans" skit was great, especially where Michael Jordan starts talking about his foundation, and the 4 guy's minds start wandering off ('da bears, 'da bears, Ditka, Sausage, 'da bulls...). I also thought the question about coach Ditka going up against a hurricane (named Ditka) was pretty amusing. Matt Foley, motivational speaker was hilarious! 'Look Dad, we got ourselves a regular Bill Shakespear here', and 'I hear you've been using paper not for writing lately, but rolling'. That could have been Farley's best role. Also, the commentary guy who kept using double-finger quotes, as he progressively got more gross ('a guy who doesn't let his scabs heal', or 'eats his dandruff flakes'). And lastly, as the guy who flips out when he finds out his coffee has been replaced by Folgers instant coffee. Thought that was very funny.
Some of the skits that didn't do much for me was the 'lunch lady' skit (looks like it had been written by 10 year olds), and the one where he's in drag talking about his latest line of skin products (Christina Applegate was REALLY miscast as Cher), and lastly.....as good a job as I thought he did as Rudy Giuliani's son Andrew, I thought it wasn't too professional making fun of a nine year old that has ADS. Overall, I'd give the compilation a 4/5 rating. The only skit I wish they included was the 'Little Women' one, where Chris breaks thru the ice, and hurls off a bunch of obscenities to the other women to rescue him. I remember the first time I saw that, and had stomach pains from laughing so much.
He was really a great comic!
Good skits but alot missing.......2004-12-14
First i want to say that this does have alot of Farley's funny skits, but theres some missing gems and some of his better skits were shown only partially while some of his more forgettable skits were played in its entirety which made no sense to me.the only had one Matt Foley skit in its entirety which is undoubtedly the funniest character he ever did on SNL.the show a quick clip of the one where he steps in dog crap and falls through a window in the same house in another matt foley skit but they just show that brief part not the whole scene. Also they omitted Matt Foley as Santa Claus which was one of his funniest skits ever. Its on the SNL Christmas DVD but still that was no reason to leave this great skit out of his personal tribute DVD.He also does another guy at the newsdesk which they never showed the entire clips of.I forget the characters name but he always does the quotation marks with his fingers as he explains why some people don't like him.But anyways there is a few good skits here.My favorites are the one Matt Foley skit they gave us in entirety,The spoof on the old folgers crystals commercials "secretly replacing real coffee with instant coffee in fine restaurants" when farley flips out when he finds out he didn't get real coffee, that one had me aughing alot. And i liked the one where its like a 1950's winter setting with everyone talkng so nice and then chris farley suddenly screaming obscenities when he falls through the ice.But aside from thta as i said they left out alot of his best stuff.I am not sure if Lauren Michaels hand picked which would be his "best skits" but if he did he needs to realize his taste isn't in touch with most farely fans, they left alot of no brainers off this DVD that should have definitely been on this DVD.Hopefully they will do a better job in the future if they try to cash in on Farley again with another best of farely in the future but i am not holding my breath on that cause i doubt they'll do a best of on the same character twice.P.S. the one where he tries out for chippendales is funny as hell to,forget to mention that one, glad they included it in this DVD at least.
