From the moment that Prince Eric's ship emerged from the fog in the opening credits it was apparent that Disney had somehow, suddenly recaptured that "magic" that had been dormant for thirty years. In the tale of a headstrong young mermaid who yearns to "spend a day, warm on the sand," Ariel trades her voice to Ursula, the Sea Witch (classically voiced by Pat Carroll), for a pair of legs. Ariel can only succeed if she receives true love's kiss in a few day's time and she needs all the help she can from a singing crab named Sebastian, a loudmouth seagull, and a flounder. The lyrics and music by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken are top form: witty and relevant, and they advance the story (go on, hum a few bars of "Under the Sea"). Mermaid put animation back on the studio's "to do" list and was responsible for ushering Beauty and the Beast to theaters. A modern Disney classic. --Keith Simanton

1 out of 5 stars Terrible movie - don't waste your money or your time.......2007-09-03

Our family enjoys many Disney movies (Mulan, Peter Pan, Fox & the Hound, Robin Hood, Sword in the Stone, etc.), but Little Mermaid is terrible! I can't believe this plot was developed anytime after 1950. 16-year-old mermaid "falls in love" with prince after seeing him once (never actually speaks with him), gives up everything (family/talent/etc.) to see him again. If you are looking for a strong female role model, watch Mulan - it is amazing. If you are looking for a girl-gets-prince movie, watch Cinderella - it is a classic.

Disney never seems to let us down with the classics. Great movie and songs.

5 out of 5 stars How can anyone not like this?.......2007-08-23

This is an all-time classic. I dont know anybody who hasnt seen it. Its a magical, beautiful film that you can watch over and over. And who doesnt know the words to every song? It doesn't get any better than this.

5 out of 5 stars The Little Mermaid.......2007-08-21

Like all the other "Disney Princess" movies, The Little Mermaid is great. The DVD came with all kinds of cool bonus features. Some people have said that the restoration was good, and if that is your case: get a new tv, i had no problems with it whatsoever, the work they did was incredible.

5 out of 5 stars Cheated. I Got The Region 3 DVD. Only 1 Disc. "Jumping Jellyfish.".......2007-08-18

Walt Disney's classic under-the-sea coming-of-age film "The Little Mermaid" (loosely based on the fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen) gets the 2-Disc Special Platinum Edition DVD treatment.

When I ordered this movie, I specifically ordered the 2-Disc edition, but I recieved the wrong one. I got stuck with the Region 3 DVD, which has only 1 disc and only several special features. As Sebastian would say,
"Jumping jellyfish." I was very disappointed.

On to the movie itself, however. The film is a classic, with songs by the Academy-Award winning team Alan Menken and Howard Ashman (who would go on to score "Beauty And The Beast," my all-time favourite movie) and wonderful characters (Ariel, Flounder, Sebastian and Scuttle, among others), the movie is a timeless classic your little girl will treasure forever. Rated G.

This is an energetic, but ultimately mediocre adaptation of the play, directed on Broadway by Tommy Tune. Burt Reynolds is the town sheriff and a regular patron of a local bordello. He wages a public battle to keep it open after it is targeted as the devil's den by a television minister. Charles Durning was nominated for a Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, and there are some lively song and dance numbers featuring Dolly Parton as the madame of the Chicken Ranch. However, this becomes bogged down in too many serious moments for it to be more than a lightweight musical comedy. --Rochelle O'Gorman

5 out of 5 stars Jolly good 80's musical comedy.......2007-08-15

This has been a favorite of mine since I first saw it around 1986/87, and it still holds it's ground. Not the deepest of movies, but it's very entertaining, with a great cast, and of course it has an happy ending. ;-)

4 out of 5 stars Best Lil Whorehouse In Texas.......2007-06-12

i bought this tried to send it back as doesnt work but they would not accept

5 out of 5 stars A Surprise from my past.........2007-05-14

I ordered this for my wife, but I knew of it as a kid. I was surprised how entertaining it ended up being. Burt and Dolly really have a chemistry, and for a real church-going country girl, she seems to have an open mind for taking such a risque role. Moments that harken to "true" women's rights, the safety of a whorehouse opposed to the street walker/pimp scenario, even a quip on how un Christian most Christians are. (When Burt is asked why more people are not forgiving like God is, he replies,"Well, I guess most people aren't very God-like." So damned true. I dig this film.

4 out of 5 stars Classic Dolly & Burt.......2007-05-08

Very good adaptation of a musical, and Dolly & Burt are great. Don't think I have ever heard Burt sing before (is it dubbed?).

Kids may enjoy the slapstick of this modern reworking of the old Our Gang comedies, but parents who grew up watching them on TV (or grandparents who saw them at theaters) will wonder why anyone would want to be involved in this pathetic remake. Directed by Penelope Spheeris, the film takes look-alike kids and casts them as Spanky, Alfalfa, Buckwheat, and the rest, minus any sense of what made the old Hal Roach comedies funny. Instead of kids being kids, these are kids doing shtick while recycling such old bits as the He-Man Woman Haters Club, the kids' go-cart race, and Spanky and Alfalfa dressing as girls. Devoid of charm or wit. --Marshall Fine

5 out of 5 stars Great Fun for Kids of All Ages........2007-06-12

OK, yes, its a great movie for kids, but I think its even better for adults. Like all the great, classic "kids" humor (vintage Disney, Hanna-Barbera, Sponge Bob, etc.), its really targeted for adults, or at least I believe, you have to be an adult to get all of the fantastic humor.

This movie reminded me of my own kids at their funniest. The attitude seemed perfect. For this, I'm not sure who to credit other than Penelope Spheeris, but all of the kids acting in this movie seemed relaxed, fun-loving, and outrageously humorous. Not to take anything away form the "mature" actors - There were some fantasic cameos including Mel Brooks, Reba McEntire, Whoopi Goldberg, Darryl Hanna, George Wendt, and many others.

"If you were my children, I'd punish you."
"If we were your children, we'd punish ourselves."

"What is your bank account number?"
"Seven."
"Seven?"
"Four?"

"Quick! Call 911."
"But I don't know the number."
"Me neither."

When your kids aren't around, take it out, watch it yourself, and have a good laugh.

4 out of 5 stars Little Rascals review.......2007-06-02

I do Family Day Care and the children love this dvd. It has good comedy, especially when a couple of the boys get caught up in a ballet concert. The kids all have wonderful personalities and the antics they get up to, is entertaining.

5 out of 5 stars Full of fun!.......2007-05-15

"The Little Rascals" has been my unrivalled favourite movie for the last ten years. I literally know it line by line and still have a good laugh everytime I watch it. It is the ONE movie that everyone in my family agrees on, so now that we are growing up and there's a new generation of kids coming along, I bought the DVD again so that they can be a true part of our family. Before agreeing to marry my fiancé, I had him watch the movie and I watched his response. Now I know that there's still a kid inside of him and the wedding is being planned. I couldn't marry someone who didn't admire Spanky's spunk and Alfalfa's audacity in bringing a GURL (yes, gUrl) into the clubhouse. This is a new classic and a must-have in your DVD collection!

Once you settle into the realization that this 1986 John Carpenter (Halloween) film is not going to be one of the director's more masterful works, Big Trouble in Little China just becomes a full-tilt comic blast. Kurt Russell is hilarious as a drawling, would-be John Wayne hero who steps into the middle of a supernatural war in the heart of Chinatown. While kung fu warriors and otherworldly spirits battle over the fate of two women (Kim Cattrall and Suzee Pai), Russell's swaggering idiot manages to knock himself out or underestimate the forces he's dealing with. The whole thing is dopey, but it's supposed to be dopey and Russell's game performance brings an ironic edge. Carpenter directs some nifty spook effects (the sudden arrival of three martial arts demigods from out of nowhere is worth applause), and he also wrote the music. --Tom Keogh

Description

Directed by thrill master John Carpenter, this edgo-of-your seat adventrue stars Kurt Russell as Jack Burton, a tough-talking, wisecracking truck driver whose hum-drum life on the road takes a sudden supernatural tailspin when his best friend's fiancee is kidnapped. Dodging demons and facing baffling terrors, Jack battles his way through Lo Pan's dark domain in a full-throttle, action-riddled ride to rescue the girl. Co-starring Kim Cattrall, this effects-filled sci-fi spectacle speeds to an incredible, twist-taking finish.

5 out of 5 stars You're not a real American unless you love this movie.......2007-08-21

Big Trouble in Little China is easily one of the best movies ever made. John Carpenter is a genius and Kurt Russell plays his part perfectly as a completely rough neck truck driver. The characters are fun, well defined, and the movie is definitely humorous.

Tons of witty dialogue with a ridiculous and stereotypical Chinese mythical feel... and as a bonus it even has the really hot girl from Mannequin! Wow

If you haven't seen this movie you haven't lived life!

5 out of 5 stars One of my favorite movies of all time........2007-07-16

This is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. Incredible sense of campiness and cheesiness with a beautiful delivery.

My friends have endless in-jokes from this movie. We say 'indeed' like Lo Pan, and often speculate on what could be better than a six demon bag. This movie is still funny after countless viewings.

5 out of 5 stars Best. Movie. Ever. Period........2007-06-12

Just listen to the old Porkchop Express, alright? When you want to get the buddies together on a dark and stormy night and have a great time, all you need is some brews, some grub, and a copy of Big Trouble in Little China. This has got to be one of the greatest examples of a hilarious, great fun, buddy comedy-action flick ever devised. You will not be able to stop laughing. Your significant other will consider dumping you because you won't stop quoting it. You will never be able to stop doing the kung fu hand sign the good guys flash at each other during the flick. The greatest characters, most absurd dialogue, this one has it all. Go to the store right now and tell 'em old Jack Burton sent you for a copy. 'Nuff said.

4 out of 5 stars Cheesy but entertaining!!.......2007-05-14

Cheesy but very entertaining. Very 80s. Not Curt's best stuff but very worth while viewing. His best work.............Captin Ron!!!

5 out of 5 stars One of the greatest movies ever made!.......2007-04-11

Funny, action packed, martial arts, magic, monsters, great (but cheesy) dialogue - truly representative of the Golden Age of Movies (aka, the 80's). The first time I saw this flick, I watched it once a day for 30 days. Did I mention that this is one of many of great John Carpenter films?

Get with it, 'cause for this price, you'll be thanking me for your trip through nostalgia!!

Rated G.

Sandwiched between Slap Shot and The World According to Garp, George Roy Hill made this effervescent film about first love. A sharp American girl (Diane Lane, in her debut) and a film-loving Parisian boy (Thelonious Bernard, in his only film) fall innocently in love. When the girl's zealous mother (Sally Kellerman) goes ballistic, the young couple fall under the spell of a curious gentleman (none other than Laurence Olivier), who plants the seed to make their love last forever: to kiss under a Venetian bridge at sunset. As the love story becomes an adventure with the young lovers crossing France and Italy, Allan Burns's Oscar-nominated script and Hill's deft touch turn this into a romance for the ages and a movie to smile about. George Delerue's Oscar-winning score and the picturesque European scenery don't hurt either. Ages 7 and older. --Doug Thomas

4 out of 5 stars Sweet Little Love Story.......2007-04-08

A young cast supported by some big name stars (Olivier and Broderick Crawford) make for an entertaining little movie. The French kid will make you smile all the way through. The new DVD treatment is a great way to bring this gem of a movie back to light after languishing on VHS for many years. Treat yourself to this fun little film.

And a sidebar to some of these other reviewers: there ought to be a rule that you have to be able to spell and punctuate if you write reviews on Amazon.com.

4 out of 5 stars Bingo!.......2006-11-10

Silly at first, then it got to be wonderful! With the horse racing and the movies, and the trio travel to Italy for romance.

2 out of 5 stars A Little Nasuating.......2006-09-21

I had avoided this for sometime but finally relented so I could see a young Diane Lane. She is the only redeeming part of this rather silly movie, not even product placment clips of Paul Newman and Robert Redford make it bearable. Hideous accents abound and way to many sexual references i.e. statues in the Louvre, porno flick to make it really innocent. Olivier is really pretty awful, he must have been really hard up for money to support Joan Plowright and the kids. Broderick Crawford playing himself is even worse. Where did they come up with this cast? So rent Henry V or Rebecca for Olivier; All the Kings Men for Crawford; Long Hot Summer for Newman; The Great Gatsby or Butch Cassidy for Redford and just say no to A Little Romance.

4 out of 5 stars sweet although a little naive.......2006-07-03

maybe my expection was too high after reading so many enthusiastic reviews. it's not 100% superb, but it IS fresh, romantic, and first love. i wish my first love was like that. it would make life so perfect.

5 out of 5 stars I love this MOVIE!!!.......2006-06-22

This movie so hit home with me. I was a little bit younger than the main characters when I first saw this, but I still was able to relate very well. It is such a sweet and beautifully well made movie. I can remember catching this movie just recently on Showtime family and I was so happy because this was the day I took off from work!! And now I just bought the movie so that I can enjoy it forever. Everytime I see it, I always begin to cry when "Julius" leaves the kids in the movie theater at the door and kisses the window "goodbye" the walks up to the policemen and states, "Gentelemen I believe you are looking for me"... Oh..I'm about to cry now!!! But please watch this movie with your family, friends, and those that you love. Trust me, they will thank you!!

Description

Little Manhattan is a feel-good comedy that's perfect for kids and adults alike. In a city known for excitement, two young friends are about to embark on the greatest adventure of all. Gabe (Josh Hutcherson) and Rosemary (newcomer Charlie Ray) have known each other nearly all of their lives, but when they come face-to-face in a karate class, they see each other in a whole new light. Filled with all the magical, marvelous?and maddening?moments of first love, this charming film is fun for the whole family!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars "Love is an ugly, terrible business..." - a chick flick the whole family can enjoy........2007-07-26

It's very rare to find a romantic comedy that's appropriate for kids, and still poignant and funny enough for adults. Most have jokes that are either funny but too crude for children, or fall flat; romance that's either too mushy for men and boys or not powerful enough for women. But this story from the point of view of a 10-year old boy, Gabe (Josh Hutcherson), falling head-over-heels in love with a slightly older girl, hits the mark so right on target with a clear, honest script, the writer director team (husband and wife Mark Levin and Jennifer Flackett) deserve an award for marksmanship if not an Oscar. One of my favorite lines is when Gabe tells the elevator operator: "Just some . . . date ... with some ... girl." But that attempt at nonchalance is an exception from most of his narration, which is ernestly romantic and anguished.

The only really similar film I can think of is Lucas (1986) (starring Corey Haim) and Little Manhattan is comparable in quality as well as theme, but significantly different in plot and setting. Hutcherson's acting is outstanding for his age, a feat repeated in his performance in the recent Bridge to Terabithia. That film also has some similarities: both deal with a relationship between a young boy and girl, and both have a few little special effects shots showing the children's imagination; so if you liked Terabithia but prefer something funnier & less sad, this is your ticket. It's pleasant, funny and endearing throughout, and though it might make some chicks cry at some points, it's not because anybody dies or anything. The young heros cynical view of love may be the only thing that saves him (maybe something better saves him, you'll have to watch to find out).

This is one of those movies to always keep handy for rainy days when you can't agree on what to watch. Oh, yeah, and the end credits features one of my favorite songs, "Love Grows (Where My Rosemary Goes)."

If you like Little Manhattan I would also recommend The Dust Factory, Lucas (1986), and Bridge to Terabithia.

5 out of 5 stars Little Manhattan is a MUST SEE film.......2007-07-14

We all enjoyed this movie. It is funny and very entertaining
for adults and the kids. The child actors in this movie are
so talented. It is a lighthearted and wonderful film.

5 out of 5 stars Smart and Sweet.......2007-07-07

I bought this movie for my 10-year old daughter and it has been a hit with her and with her friends. To hear the tale of Gabe (a 10-year old Manhattanite) and his view on love was entertaining and thought-provoking. Gabe is cynical about love as a witness to the deterioration of his parents' marriage but cannot stop himself from surrendering his heart to his charming classmate, Rosemary Talesco. The script is smart enough for parents and sweet enough for kids, with emotion and intelligence in every scene. We just watched it again today on a long drive. I got to listen to it without the benefit of the lovely cinematography and found myself ever more appreciative of the tight dialogue.

5 out of 5 stars Little Manhattan..........2007-06-04

Little Manhattan brought back a slew of memories for me also. This movie brought to the fore the feelings that I had had (as a pre-teen & teen), but just didn't have the voice to express my feelings to the females with whom I was enamored. Now, I didn't cry as our young man did in the DVD, but I did understand (and could relate).

I wouldn't relive those days even if you paid me! I would recommend this flick to all pre-teen and teen you men as course 101 in the art of expressing one's feelings to females - but the fact is, that with the emotion that we call love, there is no 'art' to it. If you wear your heart on your sleeve, chances are it's going to be broken - be ready - if you can.

To anyone that reads this - have your pre-teen and teenage sons watch this. If they say, "That will never happen to me!", just smile at them and say, "If you say so..." and leave it at that!!

4 out of 5 stars First Crush Film Grows on You.......2007-03-13

When I first started watching this Netflix rental, I almost stopped the
DVD after 10 minutes because the movie seemed silly and broad. But I
stuck it out, and am I glad I did. The movie got steadily better, and
by the end I felt I was watching a near excellent film. It uses the old
Wonder Years narrative technique and tries to be a little too cute at
times, but the ending was a bit surprising and very touching. It stars
the boy from The Bridge To Terabithia, but no big name actors. It received good reviews, but had little to draw in the average viewer.
If you enjoy movies about childhood that aren't meant for children
(though this is suitable for children age 9 or up), then I think you
will enjoy this film.

Elvis looking and acting his best in one of the few "adult" movies he made. This is my favorite Elvis movie, and it really does look better in this new widescreen DVD version. Definitely worth the money. Buy it and you won't be sorry.

2 out of 5 stars Wrong aspect ratio listed.......2007-08-17

It is a very narrow 2.35:1. NOT the 1.66:1 listed on the site. The vhs version has the theatrical bars durring the credits, and it is 1.85:1, so I don't know why they made that a horrible 2.35. That even puts black bars on it using a wide screen tv. Major dissapointment for my favorite elvis movie. mes.

3 out of 5 stars Cheesy but cool!.......2007-07-30

Elvis is ultra-hip in this, one of the last of his long list of mondo-60's cheesy celluloid musical romps. This film makes an attempt to be a departure from the more family-oriented technicolor Elvis movies of the mid and early 60s and tries to offer up a more adult story line. The King is a swinging freelance photographer cruising the streets of L.A., in his dune buggy, from downtown to the beaches of Malibu in search of subjects for his camera. This Elvis character is an avowed bachelor and ladies man (as are most of Elvis's characters) who freely and openly drinks, says "damn" and "hell" several times throughout the movie, does photo shoots of nude girls for men's magazines and is a devotee of the free love movement. He is forced, against his will, to shack up in a Malibu beach house with his leading lady and her enormous Great Dane Albert, after she drugs him with hallucinogens of some type (the insinuation is that it's LSD, as he goes on a colorful mindtrip resembling a bad fever dream)and he goes into a three day coma that results in him losing his job at the local newspaper. The rest of the movie centers around him trying to get his life back together as he manages to hoodwink two magazine publishers into hiring him as their exclusive in house photographer and tries to get away from the creepy girl and her big dog, as she continually insinuates herself back into his life. As crazy as it all sounds and as incongrouros and cheesy as it really is, there's something extremely cool about Elvis in this movie. It just goes to prove that Elvis was so cool, you could have stood him on a pile of horse dung and he would still look cool. The highlight of the movie is the pool party scene in which the King offers up his original performance of the now-popular "A Little Less Conversation" immortalized with the charttopping remix a few years back and in "Oceans 11".

Half screwball romance, half television satire, Little Black Book follows insecure Stacy Holt (Brittany Murphy, Uptown Girls, 8 Mile), who has an idyllic relationship with a great guy named Derek (Ron Livingston, Office Space) and a job as an associate producer for a daytime talk show that fuses Jerry Springer and Ricki Lake. Then a cynical co-worker named Barb (Holly Hunter, Broadcast News) persuades Stacy to delve into Derek's Palm Pilot to learn more about his ex-girlfriends--which sends Stacy into a spiral of ever-increasing paranoid compulsion. Little Black Book takes some unexpected plot twists that some viewers will find inexplicable and others will find weirdly fascinating. The movie's split personality makes it unsuccessful as a whole but compelling in parts. Hunter steals the show, in more ways than one. Also featuring Kathy Bates, (Misery, About Schmidt) and Julianne Nicholson (Seeing Other People). --Bret Fetzer

Description

2 out of 5 stars You'll never get this time back, so take my advice and don't do it.......2007-01-29

Brittany Murphy and Holly Hunter star in this way below mediocre "romantic comedy" about two producers at the Jerry Springer-esque Kippie Kann show. Kippie Kann (Kathy Bates) is supposedly losing viewers and they want to give the show a new twist. Accordingly, they take all sorts of new ideas for shows to make Kippie a bit less trashy. One of them: Little Black Books, or electronic ones like Palms and Blackberries. After her boyfriend lets it slip that he used to date a well-known model, Brittany Murphy's character, Stacy, takes her work home with her when he goes out of town and she finds herself inexplicably drawn to the Palm he left at home. Before you know it she's contacting all of his exes under the guise of getting them to be guests on the show, but in reality just because she can't trust her man.

This movie was tedious in a way that I can't even put into words, but I think it's enough to say that the hour and a half of my life that I will never get back will be sorely missed. The plot hinges on the idea that if you're dating someone who doesn't tell you every single minute detail of his dating life before you got together, that it's okay to snoop through his belongings and use duplicity and manipulation to find out the things you want to know. It paints a dreary picture for the state of true love, and it doesn't even do so with good acting or a strong plot. In fact, the only reason I gave this movie two stars instead of one is because Gavin Rossdale has a cameo and I just don't see enough of him these days. Take my advice and stay far far away from this stinker. If you want to be depressed about the state of relationships in today's world rent Closer, at least then you'll have some good acting to enjoy with the movie's pessimistic view of love.

3 out of 5 stars Fairly well executed formula entertainment.......2007-01-28

A TV talk show is having trouble coming up with new controversial entertainment. In the midst of ideas someone suggests that one can tell all about someone by reading their little electronic black book. The new girl on the block Stacy (Brittany Murphy) realizes that she does not know anything about her boyfriend Derek (Ron Livingston).

With the help of friends and co-workers they help Stacy exploit Derek's "Little Black Book". She may find out more than she wants to know. And to what end?

The story has a shackle takeoff a predictable middle and trouble wrapping up after the climax.

4 out of 5 stars Doesn't go to where the romantic comedy convention says it should..........2006-11-30

I wasn't very keen on seeing "Little Black Book" since it has suffered very bad reviews. Finally, I rented it and it wasn't a disappointment at all. The story is quite basic: Stacy (played by Brittany Murphy) is a TV producer for a well-known talk-show. Things are going great for her, and she doesn't mind that her boyfriend never discusses his old relationships - well, until her new co-worker Barb (Holly Hunter) suggests she should do some research. It's not long before Stacy stumbles upon her boyfriend's little black book, a.k.a. his palm pilot.
First of all, "Little Black Book" is NOT a regular comedy. Sure, there is plenty of dialogue to keep you smiling and a few laugh-out-loud moments, but the whole concept is just not of the comedic type. At least not in the script, but Murphy's amazing comedic talent (also shown in "Just Married") is evident here and it breathes life into the story.
Second, "Little Black Book" is NOT a ROMANTIC film. It starts off like that, but it crosses the finish line as a coming-of-age story. The publicity for this film didn't do it justice - the trailers showed a hilarious romantic comedy, spoiling all the jokes and sending a wrong impression. This is not, by any means, a perfect movie. However, Brittany Murphy, Holly Hunter and the considerable talents of Josie Maran and Julianne Nicholson make sure it's not mediocre, either.

4 out of 5 stars A Surprising Twist Into Ruthlessness.......2006-10-12

When my wife rented this movie I thought, 'Oh great, another chick-flick'! Boy was I wrong. Brittany Murphy carries the film quite well. Holly Hunter provides a great supporting roll while Ron Livingston's very small role was nothing more than a necessary prop to the plot. Sometimes digging for the truth can lead you down a tormented path. I found the movie interesting, moving and surprising! Recommended!!

5 out of 5 stars "You're different.".......2006-08-10

Little Black Book starring Brittany Murphy, Holly Hunter, and Ron Livingston is not you typical romantic comedy. I love this film, it shows you how cruel, calcualted, and confused people are in life. Murphy dazzles as Stacy, a wanna-be type assoicate who dreams of working with her mentor/idol Diane Sawyer one day. Stacy takes a job at a daytime talk show and befriends a seemingly sweet producer played by Hunter. Great acting all around, well-written, and keeps you interested in a very unreal situation, I highly recommend this fun and unorthodox romantic comedy.

4 out of 5 stars Clever movie... a Must have for Jon Bongiovi fans!.......2005-08-06

I agree with the positive reviews on this one. The plot and humor are clever and Jon plays Robin Grange well - he makes a devious character quite likeable. If you want to see a lot of Jon, you shouldn't pass on this movie. It took me forever to get through the entire movie because I kept rewinding certain parts where Jon looked especially yummy or said something rather funny. A lot of dry wit and a nice touch of suspense and irony at the end. Well worth the money. Some nudity, unfortunately, not Jon's (grin).

4 out of 5 stars Bon Jovi is perfectly cast.......2005-03-25

Bon Jovi may not be a Shakespearean actor, but he has chops enough to play a smarmy American that easy to hate, and even easier to envy. The film may be nothing more a series of ruses, but it is fun to watch the actors work. Thandie Newton is particularly good as the object of the playwright's affection, who nearly succumbs to the wicked charms of the awful American. Bon Jovi oozes with fake charm and star quality persona, which is exactly what the role called for. This nothing more than diverting entertainment, but it is fun nonetheless.

4 out of 5 stars interesting...not much more to say.......2004-01-11

okay, i've read most of the other reviews for this movie and had high expectations for it. i mainly wanted to see it for jon bon jovi, maybe because he is really HOT. anyway, i was a little disappointed, but it was an overall job well done. i'm just going to state the fact that i'm only a teenager, which explains why i found a couple of scenes awkward. to make it short and simple, i would recommend that you only watch this movie before you turn out the lights to make it more interesting. in my opinion of course, you may have your own

5 out of 5 stars BEST JOVI MOVIE EVER!!!!.......2003-12-03

if you are looking at this movie for the same reason i did (bon jovi) then you are looking at the right movie!
i've seen pretty much EVERY movie he's ever been in and this by far is the best. some of the other reviews said the same thing, that if you think bon jovi is the greatest you won't be disappointed!
here are a couple of reasons why this movie should be at the top of your bon jovi list:
*scenes with his shirt off
*he is the leading man
*seduces the leading ladies
*twisted ending
if you need more reasons than those you'll just have to check it out for yourself.

1 out of 5 stars regrettable.......2003-11-30

the mystery of why anyone would cast jovi
in the lead cannot be answered by watching
this movie. just being a celeb doesn't give
you the acting chops necessary to hold up your
end in the company of established performers.
the faltering screenplay didn't help matters
either. alt
