It has it's moments..........2007-08-28
Of which I FF to. But as a movie? The show doesn't hold much interest. A movie like "Asian and Indian guy goes to White Castle" (I don't recall their names but if you've seen it you'll know) gives you a cohesive journey to enjoy. Van Wilder tries to update "Animal House" but fails by putting too much upon one character to hold it up.
High bitrate AVC encode ---> Marginal picture quality.......2007-08-26
First of all, I loved the movie. The audio is spectacular, the video marginal. They used an AVC encode that is always over 30Mbps which should yield a top-tier image. Unfortunately the result is less than spectacular.
Buy it if you like the movie. Skip it if you already have the DVD.

In a futile but ambitiously decadent attempt to revive the loony legacy of National Lampoon comedies, Van Wilder will make you laugh out loud, or vomit, or both. It's that kind of movie, in which the title character (played by sitcom survivor Ryan Reynolds) is the resident slacker of Coolidge College for seven years and running. Enjoying his party-animal supremacy and reluctant to fulfill his potential, he's got an idolizing assistant from India (Kal Penn, the movie's ethnic stereotype, desperate virgin, and comedic highlight), and a journalism major (Tara Reid) assigned to uncover the secret of Van's controlled anarchy. Unfortunately, the movie's more Down to You than Animal House, opting for familiar teen romance over campus shenanigans, despite an abundance of flatulence, diarrhea, sicko sex jokes, gratuitous nudity, and one gag (involving a bulldog) that's disgusting by any standard. Keg-fueled frat-rats will surely elevate Van Wilder to semiclassic status; all others are urged to proceed with caution. --Jeff Shannon

Hilarious.......2007-02-11
A must see. Anyone who's seen Animal House will see the similarity this movie's lead has to "Otter." In fact, Tim Matheson plays a mellowed "Otter" of sorts. It's great for the adult fan of comedies who isn't offended by four-letter words.

I cannot believe this classic (well, it will be) movie has one review.
This is the funniest movie I ever seen (unrated version). Austin Powers Goldmember is close, but not quite.
I have watched it at least 15 times over the last 2 years. I laugh at many parts to this day. I think Ryan Reynolds (van wilder himself) had his best role by far in this flick. He has tried to capture the same magic in other movies, but sorry.
I am 38, married and have a 11 year old son. I own my own business and study business and read only non fiction. This movie has a great overall feel as Van is a good hearted guy throughout the movie. He is a good guy in a raunchy movie.
You have a romantic comedy and gross guy flick all in one.

First of all, see the Unrated, and TURN on the UNRATED from the main menu. You will see some of the most beautiful upper female parts you have ever seen. Incredible. Almost worth the price of admission there.
Then we go to the movie itself. Gross out humor like "Something About Mary". Smart humor like "Harold and Kumar go to White Castle". If you like comedy, you really will LOVE this.

Van Wilder PSP UMD Movie MODEL- 17913 VENDOR- UMD MOVIE FEATURES- Van Wilder PSP Movie The "National Lampoon" franchise is resurrected for another politically incorrect collegiate romp with this R-rated gross-out sex comedy. National Lampoons Van Wilder revolves around the exploits of its title character (Ryan Reynolds), a seventh-year senior who is made it his goal in life to help each and every Coolidge College undergrad succeed in life -- or at least in bed. Vans charmed life seems to have an expiration date, however; his father (Tim Matheson) has cut off his presumably vast allowance. Financial insecurity doesnt phase the big man on campus, and he soon starts up a lucrative cottage industry as a planner of high- priced campus blowouts. When an enterprising reporter from the college paper gets wind of Vans liberal interpretation of the schools code of conduct, it seems his gig is up -- unless, of course, he can charm the hard-edged Gwen (Tara Reid) into accepting his uniquely skewed world view. In addition to Matheson, Van Wilder features cameos from a number of 80s teen movie stalwarts, including Edie McClurg, Paul Gleason, and Erik Estrada. -- SPECIFICATIONs ----------------------------------- MPAA Rating : R Genre : Coming-of-Age, Gross-Out Comedy, Sex Comedy Theatrical Date : 2002 Run Time : 93 minutes Distributor/Studio: Live / Artisan sonystyle.com br

Customer Reviews:
Your kids will probably be bored.......2007-03-17
I realize that this batch of films is aimed at older teenagers and college kids, not adults over the age of 25. However, you can probably do much better picking out films your kids will watch than this collection. That's not to say that there aren't some great yet silly films in the batch, because there are. Next I describe each film in descending order of quality.
UHF (1989) - This is a great film starring Weird Al Yankovic as a directionless young man whose uncle gives him a rundown TV station to manage. His unconventional programming turns things around for himself and the station.
Cooley High (1975) - This is a great film for all ages, and was the basis for the sitcom "What's Happening", although it only faintly resembles it. It is set in south-side Chicago in the mid 60's, and concerns a group of high school friends that have numerous comic encounters, but there is also some tragedy involved in the plot.
Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989) - The first one was very funny and fresh, and Keanu Reeves will always be Ted as far as I'm concerned, even if he winds up doing Shakespeare at some point. The plot concerns two slackers who are about to fail history that are given some help from a time traveller from the future. The only problem is that it is so steeped in 80's pop culture that your kids may not get half the jokes.
Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey (1991) - The second one is still funny, it just seems to try harder and not get quite the same comic effect as the first.
The rest of the movies are under the National Lampoon label.
Dorm Daze (2003) - One of National Lampoon's better college farce movies, with the plot set up by a series of silly misunderstandings. The closest thing you're going to get to "Animal House" 25 years after the fact.
Going the Distance (2004) - A Canadian version of Roadtrip. This movie was better than I expected, with a lot of good interaction between the main characters, but still not that great even for a teen farce.
Class Reunion (1982) - This movie had all the ingredients to be funny, but it just bored me, even in 1982. Top that off with all of the 80's and even 70's pop culture references, and I don't think it would do much for today's kids.
The last three movies are just awful - "Movie Madness", "Gold Diggers", and "Van Wilder 2: The Rise of Taj". I won't even bother to describe them. When I say they're bad, I'm saying they are boring and completely unfunny. If you force your kids to sit through these three films as part of their summer break, they'll be looking forward to going back to school.
The end result is you have three good to excellent films that are all older movies, four mediocre to OK films, and three horrible movies. I think you can do much better at entertaining your older teenagers/college kids than this collection.

Description
NATIONAL LAMPOON'S VAN WILDER - You'll never think of bulldogs, pastries, protein shakes or tutors in the same way again....NATIONAL LAMPOON'S VAN WILDER stars Ryan Reynolds as a 7th-year student who has no plans to graduate. Life is good for Van; he's got a coed in every closet and a party to go to every night. His slick reputation even catches the eye of sexy Gwen Pearson (Tara Reid), an on-campus reporter determined to expose the naked truth behind his wild exterior. When Gwen enters his life and his father stops paying for his tuition, could Van's days as the king of Coolidge College be over? Find out for yourself in this outrageous laugh-fest that you're sure to go "nuts" over! MADE - SWINGERS co-stars Jon Favreau and Vince Vaughn team up with rap superstar Sean Combs and the legendary Peter Falk ("Columbo") in this wickedly hilarious tale of two hapless guys trying their best to go bad... with criminally comic results. Bobby (Favreau) is a would-be boxer who just wants to settle down with his stripper girlfriend (Famke Janssen). Hi lifelong pal Ricky (Vaughn) is a smalltime hustler who dreams of being a mafia hotshot. So when mob box Max (Peter Falk) offers the two buddies temporary work as out-of-town "muscle," the two friends head for New York - where Ricky's delusions of gangster grandeur plunge them both into the Big Apple's seductive underworld of stretch limos, fast women and pricey nightclubs. But when Ricky's bumbling attempts to look like a "made" man ignite a dangerous confrontation with a rival gang lord, it becomes apparent that for these two not-so-goodfellas, crime definitely doesn't pay... and it could end up costing them big time!
