Both my mother and I loved it. If you don't mind a little 'mature' female nudity the storyline is sweet and at time hysterical. The performances show a broad range of emotions. It's a great movie to watch when you just want to relax.

In Rylstone, a small village in North Yorkshire, John Baker, beloved husband of Angela Baker, dies of leukemia. Angela belongs to the Women's Institute, an organization not unlike the many women's garden clubs that are all over these United States (Visiting lecturers expound on the joys of broccoli). Ms. Baker, along with the other middle-aged women in her group, comes up with the bold new idea of printing a calendar of "nude, not naked" women to raise money for the local hospital in John's honor. After all he did say that the last stage of a woman's life is her most glorious-- sort of the last rose of summer motif-- because she will soon turn to seed. These good women became an overnight sensation as it was a photo shot heard around the world. Their story was the basis for the tasteful film "Calendar Girls," starring Helen Mirren as Chris Harper, "Miss January" and the driving force behind the concept in the first place, and Julie Walters as Annie Clark, and directed by Nigel Cole. The Brits do this sort of understated classy film so well. We need look no further than the recent "Mrs. Henderson Presents" and "The Queen" for evidence. The acting here is flawless, the photography is excellent and all the props the nude ladies use to make themselves less naked are appropriately placed.

Included on the DVD are interviews with both the director and the original twelve calendar ladies, neither of which should be missed.

Typical Playboy material.......2006-09-01

Overall, I enjoyed the video as I do most Playboy videos.

Some reviewers have stated that the video was not as good as they had expected (or hoped). Their principal complaint was that the director\editors cut too much nude material and replaced it with shots of fruit, a musical instrument, men, or something un-playmate-ish. I agree. I don't like it when they do that either. However, that is the way Playboy is\has been for as long as I can remember; true of most Playboy videos, not simply limited to this one. Playboy thinks that they are adding class to the material by doing this.

Having said that, the girls of this video are all very beautiful. The DVD is longer than most and is peppered with *many* satisfying moments.

But, as with most Playboy videos, many times you only get a glimpse or a flash. That's why I rated it four stars. What a pity. The video had the potential to be great before the director\editor worked his magic and gave it more class.

Bottom line: If you are not disappointed by most Playboy videos, you probably won't be disappointed with this one.

One of the better Video Calendars.......2001-04-06

At 85+ minutes, this is one of the longest Playboy DVDs that I've run across. It's your typical Video Calendar, and your opinion of it will very likely depend on whether or not you are a fan of the particular Playmates featured on it. I found it to have several Playmates who I liked, like Nicole Lenz, Jodi Ann Paterson, and Kristi Cline, and it made me notice a few Playmates I didn't pay much attention to before, like Cara Wakelin and Jennifer Rovero.

Each Playmate has a 6 minute video segment, which is longer than the typical 4 minutes in previous Video Calendars. Jodi Ann gets a 9 to 10 minute segment in her spot.

Be warned, though, some of the new cases that these Playboy DVDs come in have the notorious flower-pattern hubs that clamp onto the DVD and don't release easily. Be careful when you extract it from the DVD.

Horrible!! don't waste ur money..........2001-01-02

This movie was pathetic... it was nothing i expected.. most of it was just pictures. Not Great.. So don't waste your money on this... Play Boy just god bored with this one they didn't put much into it... DON"T BUY IT!!

Great Song.......2006-07-28

This is the movie where the "Calendar Girl" song comes from and it's performed very well. It's a musical in the "Funny Girl" tradition and tells the story of a singer who just wants to get a break so he can make teh big time. Of course he does --- the point of the movie is just to see how he does it. There are enough twists and turns along the way, but the real point of this movie is the music - which is excellent.

A Good Date DVD.......2006-04-27

I know that a lot of guys claim to "just not like musicials." But let me give you some advice - lots of women love musicials, especially the classics.

That's why I bought and ordered this movie and it did not disappoint at all. It is a very traditional hollywood musical complete with show tunes lavish sets and beautiful costumes.

I invited my girlfriend over, we put it in the DVD player and had a really nice evening and she was impressed that I wasn't making her watch another Die Hard movie.

Don't even think about it, for $10 this is worth every penny. Grab a glass of water, this will get you drooling. See Victoria in about every scenario possible (business woman, kitten, cowirl, etc.) And if Victoria wasn't enough, This DVD features a half an hour of the stunning Shauna Sand...what a great way to spend an hour (each model has approx. 1/2 hr. feature).

standard typical Video Calendar DVD.......2001-05-12

This is your standard typical Playboy Video Calendar. For some Playmates, this is their only appearance on video or DVD ever.

Typical standard setup, 12 Playmates with video segments about 4 to 5 minutes each, each girl having two 2-minute video segments, to make up the 55 minute overall length.

I have my personal favorites of the Playmates appearing here, such as Kelly Monaco, who has one segment as a naked angel from heaven. Another favorite, Jennifer Allan, oils herself up here in a nice segment.

For other Playmates such as Ulrika Ericsson, Nadine Chanz, Jennifer Miriam, and Priscilla Taylor, this seems to be their only appearance ever on any of the Playboy DVDs.

There aren't any overly provocative scenes in the entire DVD, as Video Calendars are usually pretty tame. I can usually recommend Video Calendars only if you're already a fan of a particular Playmate or two. Otherwise, if you don't know any of the Playmates, stick with the 2000 or 2001 Video Calendars which are 20 to 25 minutes longer.

Greatest Playboy Video of All-Time............2000-07-05

One would never guess from Victoria's original centerfold spread how explicit she is willing to get in front of the camera. While the music video format can get anoying, the camera work is excellent, including mnay close-ups of "vital" areas. Victoria is very playful in front of the camera, seeming to constantly be flirting with viewers. There's also a pretty good m/f scene with Victoria and some lucky guy. Overall, a wonderful video that vividly reminds us of how much we love seeing playmates come to life from the pages of a magazine to full motion video.

Forget what the other reviews says in here, this is the truth, if you want to seen Victoria silvstedt get naked, buy it. you know there won't be any plot in it, because it's not a film! But if you want to see her naked for 45 minutes, buy it.

I too purchased this from the bargain bin (2 DVD for around $5). I would compare the quality to that of an old worn out VHS tape thats been recorded over far too many times. The acting was ok, but the storyline and the video quality make it hard to watch.

1980s movie and it shows. Sharon Stone and co-stars do a fair job. The dvd video is extremely poor on my copy. It looks like a bootleg but it is not. Story line has been done before and since and is very predictable. I sat through it only because I bought it out of a bargain bin and figured since I paid for it, I might as well watch it all.
Save your money and your time. Pass on this one at any price.

This is your standard fare Playboy Video Calendar, with 12 Playmates getting 4-5 minutes of screentime, split between 2 video segments each.

A majority of the Playmates here haven't appeared in any other DVDs, so most of them are not well known. Anna Nicole Smith is probably the most well-known of the ladies, but I'm not much of a fan of hers.

The other blondes on this DVD are really hot, like Kimberly Donley, Barbara Moore and Tiffany Sloan (who both have also appeared on the Wet & Wild Locker Room DVD), and Ashley Allen (also seen on the Girls of Hawaiian Tropic DVD). Echo Johnson and Nicole Wood are also blondes who have decent video segments here.

The lovely Asian Playmate, Morena Corwin, makes her debut here, and she appears in many Playboy DVDs, like Blue Collar Babes DVD and Asian Exotica DVD.

We also get to see two lovely brunettes in Jennifer LeRoy and Alesha Oreskovich, who only appear on this Playboy DVD. Amanda Hope is a lovely redhead, and Stephanie Adams is a perky African-American Playmate.

It's not a great DVD, as it's much shorter in length than the newest 80+ minute 2000 and 2001 Video Calendars, but if you're looking for a good collection of beautiful women, this is a nice choice that you can't go wrong with.

Another Classic.......2000-01-19

This is another classic video calendar, a must for the calendar collector, and it features a lot of stunning playmates.

One of the good ones.......2005-04-16

This DVD holds so many of my favorite playmates. Shauna Sand, Stacy Sanches, Kona Carmack, and Gillian Bonner. Now I've only seen a few of calendars from the 90s but this one is very good. Something happened after the millenium where videos just didn't seem as good. The sequences seemed shorter, unoriginal, and generally kind of bland. These older ones seem more lively. The only reason that I have given it four stars instead of 5 is that Stacy Sanches' sequence is lame. I've seen several other clips from other videos and they were really good, this one was just boring. Other than that a good time.

This DVD is one of my favorites, despite actually being the first Playboy DVD I bought, when this was brand new. All the girls are great looking. The vignettes are good and show the girls well.

Somewhat disappointing.......2000-10-19

Although the footage was very erotic in many places, several of the ladies were featured only as a series of still photos. In addition, the still sequences for each lady morphed from one photograph to another. That was kind of interesting at first, but then it just seemed overdone and weird. Penthouse has done much better, so unless you especially love one of the featured ladies (and you don't care whether she's moving or not), your money would be better spent elsewhere.
