Eddie Murphy makes a graceless debut as a romantic lead in this comedy from Reginald Hudlin. Murphy stars as a ladies man for whom the tables turn when he suddenly finds himself taken for granted by a lover (Robin Givens). Meanwhile, the platonic friend (Halle Berry) whom Murphy regularly visits is obviously--to the viewer, anyway--the woman he's supposed to be with. The absurdly long film is filled out with some fairly crude humor, such as the sight of Geoffrey Holder taking a whiff of Grace Jones's underwear. Yet Hudlin and Murphy also strain for a veneer of elegance and sophistication. Wanting to play it both ways, they end up with nothing. But there are several good sequences where Murphy is quite funny just being Murphy, such as his explanation to Berry of how you can tell which characters in an old episode of Star Trek are destined to die. --Tom KeoghCustomer Reviews:

He can't help but crank out the occasional false note, just often enough to enrage his listeners and discourage any donations. He dreams of playing a large pipe organ. The juke box drowns him out at a cocktail bar, a church organ drowns him out on a street, pinball machines drown him out at Luna Park. The city's neon lights and commercial posters overwhelm his small art. At the end of the day, he captures the tear of a calliope horse - his sole earnings for the day - which may prove magical. Goldframe: Jason Goldframe is a god in Hollywood. He makes movies, he's demanding, he wants to be first, there are at least five phones on his desk. At the end of a day in which he has been driving his staff to finish a picture in 270 millimeters (another first, if he can pull it off), he visits a sound stage and directs a lighting technician to project a bright light on his back so he can cast a large shadow on a white wall. Goldframe then sets about with great energy and manic action to move faster than his shadow: 'I must be first.' Has he met his match in his two-dimensional doppelganger? Also: Harpya; Nachtvlinders; Atraksion; Pegasus; Operation X-70; To Speak or Not To Speak; Sirene; Chromophobia. LANGUAGES: English (Dolby Digital 2.0), French (Dolby Digital 2.0), English (Subtitles), French (Subtitles), WIDESCREEN (1.85:1), SYNOPSIS: In this metaphoric drama from French writer, director, and actor Jean-Marc Barr, Lyle ($Barr) is a farmer who lives in the rural Midwest with his wife Amy (Rosanna Arquette). Lyle's marriage to Amy is not an especially happy one; they never have sex, partly because she can't bear to betray the memory of her first husband, who has passed on, and partly because she is frightened by Lyle's unusually large penis. Lyle pursues celibacy with a grim determination until the day his childhood friend Vernon (Ian Vogt) comes to town for a visit with his wife, a beautiful French woman named Juliette (Elodie Bouchez). Vernon has been unable to satisfy Juliette sexually, and when she hears about Lyle's unusually proportioned body, she decides to seduce him. All is happy for Lyle and Juliette until word of their affair spreads through town, angering a group of vengeful fundamentalist Christians. While Barr and most of his creative team are from France, Too Much Flesh was shot in English on location in Illinois. SPECIAL FEATURES: Filmographies, Interactive Menu, Trailer(s),
