Paramount Trading Places: Looking Good, Feeling Good Edition (Blu-ray)
The fun begins when the rich and greedy Duke Brothers (Don Ameche and Ralph Bellamy) wager a bet over whether born loser Valentine (Eddie Murphy) could become as successful as the priggish Winthorpe (Dan Akroyd) if circumstances were reversed. The Dukes have the money to make this happen, but when Valentine and Winthorpe catch on they arrange for a rich and riotous payback!
Customer Reviews:
Great Transfer.......2007-08-30
I am commenting on the blu-ray disc quality. It is among the best of the transfers going blu. I would recommend this funny comidy to anyone that enjoys a laugh, but not the kids!
Wonderful movie, and surprisingly good HD transfer........2007-07-13
Well, I'm not going to go into too much detail about the movie itself, apart from to say that it's a classic, humerous, gem.
The quality of the HD transfer was a pleasant surprise, one of the best looking movies I've seen on Blu-ray. Check out the scene in the boardroom where our here is accused of theft, the detail in that scene is something to behold.
Classic Film Great Transfer .......2007-06-30
You all know the film so I will just review on the upgrade Blu Ray gives this classic, Paramount have done a great job on this release, compared to even some of the newer Blu Rays this picture shines and the dark scenes reveal more detail then you could believe possisble for an 80's comedy. I would recommend this to any lover of the film, or someone who has only seen Eddie Muphys later films as this is classic Murphy, well worth the upgrade from DVD and I am very choosey on what I double dip on but this was well worth the money, guarenteed you wont have seen a better copy of this film. Treat yourself
ole 80's classic.......2007-06-08
Came out in 1983, I bought this movie on VHS, DVD, and now Blu-Ray. I have never seen it look this good. Bright ole 80's fashion colors don't bleed anymore. This precious baby is totally remastered. Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd at their prime. Paramount finally gave this absolute classic the hi-def 1080p treatment. I'm glad that I am old enough to still enjoy 80's humor. If you're a fan of Trading Places, definitely pick this up in blu-ray, you won't regret it.

In this crowd-pleasing 1983 comedy of high finance about a homeless con artist who becomes a Wall Street robber baron, Eddie Murphy consolidated the success of his startling debut in the previous year's 48 Hours and polished his slick-winner persona. The turnabout begins with an argument between super-rich siblings, played by Ralph Bellamy and Don Ameche: Are captains of industry, they wonder, born or made? To settle the issue, the meanies construct a cruel experiment in social Darwinism. Preppie commodities trader Dan Aykroyd (perfectly cast) is stripped of all his worldly goods and expelled from the firm, and Murphy's smelly derelict is appointed to take his place, graduating to tailored suits and a world-class harem in record time. Eventually the two men team up to teach the nasty old manipulators a lesson, cornering the market in frozen orange juice futures in the process. Director John Landis (The Blues Brothers) doesn't have the world's lightest touch, but he hits most of the jokes hard and quite a few of them pay off. Trading Places is also a landmark film for fans of Jamie Lee Curtis. --David Chute

Fantastic! BOnus features fun.......2007-07-14
Trading Places is one of my favorite movies of all time- I wore out 2 vhs tapes with it and a dvd....The HD DVD looked gorgeous on my 65 inch tv and the sound was great with my BOSE speakers. Bright clear image was better than I have seen since it premiered in the theater.
I loved the bonus features on the DVD- the interviews with John Landis and Dan Ackroyd talking about Jamie Lee Curtis were hysterical!
Am looking forward to more classic comedies from the 80s! Hopefully Paramount will be releasing their entire comedy library soon!
ONE OF THE BEST EVER.......2007-06-22
This is probably one of the funniest films of the 1980's. It not only is a play on the classic nature vs. nurture theme, but it is also a somewhat comedic commentary on the "greed is good" decade of the 80's. However, it is also a nice bridging of the generations as it features two of the biggest stars to come from "Saturday Night Live" Eddie Murphy does a fine job as con man Billy Ray and Dan Ackroyd is great as Louis. Jamie Lee Curtis is also wonderful as Ophelia. In fact, it was good to see her do something other than the "scream queen" roles which she became famous for during the early part of her career. She definitely shows the comedic timing that she would display later in her career and would make her one of the finest comedic actresses in film today. However, the one that really steals it for me is Denholm Elliot as Coleman. He delivers a very low key performance that is befitting for that role. This is a real gem.
Must own!.......2007-06-15
Looks fantastic on HD DVD, held up extremely well on 80" screen. The Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 is front heavy, but otherwise sounds great. Classic comedy at its finest.
Love it.......2007-04-17
Good movie for making one feel
much better...if only for a
little while. Very entertaining.
It is good fun and on many levels.
I recommend this movie to one and all.
They're not just getting rich... They're getting even........2007-03-01
Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd star in this great 80's comedy flick that never gets old, I seriously have seen this film so many times and each time it gets funnier with each viewing especially with the little things that you tend to miss during the first time. The scene where Louise (Dan Aykroyd) wakes up in his own bed in the following morning after a terrible experience and tells his buttler in a very snoby accent that he had this awful nightmare where this negro... and then he sees Eddie Murphy's character next to him smilling had me bursting with tears of laughter, the comedic timing in this film was perfect I highly recomend this film.
Customer Reviews:
do you want to laugh?.......2007-06-11
I love this movie. Both actors are great and can make me laugh even on the worst of days. I do have the first dvd the other reviewer was talking about but even with missing segments it brought me back to the past and I enjoyed it all over again. I will purchase this edition and will enjoy it all over again. Yes it is an older movie but still has the ability to make you forget your worries for a while. People judge older movies a little to hard because they don't have all the fast pace fighting and action scenes or all the special effects. If you like movies from the 80's this is definately a keeper.
Another predicted Paramount rip-off.......2007-06-06
A few years ago I wrote a review of the original release of Trading Places...warning buyers that the release was substandard with scenes omitted....and that Paramount releasing at full price was a money grab until they re-re-re release it as a "special edition"....well...tada!!!! I was right. They have released it again...this time complete with some deleted scenes thrown in. If you've waited THIS long...I suggest you don't buy it right away...I guarantee the price will drop like a rock and will be in the bargain bin for 5.99 ot 6.99. after all this movie is over twenty years old!
Still disappointing with this release is that it is that it is NOT anamorphic. This game playing by Paramount really IS tiresome.

48 Hrs.
Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy make one of the most unusual and entertaining teams ever in Walter Hill's rollercoaster thriller, 48 Hrs. Nolte is a rough-edged cop after two vicious cop-killers. He can't do it without the help of smooth and dapper Murphy, who is serving time for a half-million dollar robbery. This unlikely partnership trades laughs as often as punches as both pursue their separate goals: Nolte wants the villains; Murphy wants his money and some much-needed female companionship. Together they take this adventure to hilarious extremes!

Eddie's 3 first.... and 3 best!.......2007-01-02
Yup... his 3 first... and 3 best films.... all in one package... for $11.99! What a steal! Sure, I'd love bonus features, deleted scenes, and all that fun stuff, but for $4 each, I'm not complaining. Great deal for the best of Eddie!
