Christopher R. Sabat is a FREAK!!.......2006-07-24
well abt this dvd the story is perfect, but voice actors, specially Christopher R. Sabat sucks, yamcha sounds like a loser and vegeta sounds like a smoker, but the other one which was edited that was released a longtime ago, which was'nt uncut,in that all the voices are damn perfect, vegeta sounds like a royal prince in that.and yamcha sounds good.in this new uncut version goku's voice is cool, and gohan does'nt sound like a kid, rather like a 12 year old boy,and explosions are not hardcore(sound)even though its 5.1 surround the old edited version has more movie like explosive sounds, overall i do not recommend any of these uncut dbz dvd's,but from episode 054, though its uncut the voices are ok.
Great series, but the DVDs are a rip-off.......2006-06-08
Dragonball Z series (aired 1989-1996, DVD releases 1999-present.)
INTRODUCTION:
The Dragonball saga is one of the most successful anime series of all time, and it isn't hard to see why. With the series. Akira Toriyama created a worldwide phenomenon that shows no signs of letting down, long after its completion. The Z series, second in the Dragonball series (consisting of the original series, Z, and GT) is the most popular by far. The series has been released numerous times on numerous formats. In recent years, the series was redubbed and reissued on DVD. Home video releases have not been kind to the series in a number of ways. Is this time any different? Read on for my review.
OVERVIEW (PRODUCT):
Dragonball Z originally aired in Japan from 1989-1996, and the edited dubbed version aired in America from 1996-2003. These DVDs feature a new English language dub track, as well as the original Japanese subtitled track. Each disc features three episodes and retails for around twenty-five dollars.
OVERVIEW (SERIES):
The Dragonball Z series was Akira Toriyama's sequel to his earlier Dragonball series. While the original series began as an adventure/comedy series, it gradually shifted more toward pure action. Dragonball Z picks up where the original series left off, continuing in the action-driven direction. Toei Animation did the anime based on the manga, and often added some subplots not vital to the story which were not featured in the original manga. The manga remains the definitive telling of Toriyama's story, but for the most part Toei handled the transition well. And definitive edition of the anime is the Japanese subtitled version.
REVIEW (SERIES):
Dragonball Z rules. Period. The series has a "love it or hate it" reputation, but when this series wins you over, it stays with you forever. With lots of interesting characters, technology, and some of the best fantasy Anime combat around, it's awesome. Just be sure you see it in all its uncensored Japanese subtitled glory. THAT is the way it was meant to be experienced.
REVIEW (DVD):
If such a great series, then why only three stars? Simple. THESE DVDS ARE A RIP-OFF! TWENTY-FIVE DOLLARS for only THREE EPISODES!? Even with the dub and sub tracks, that's outrageous. Many TV shows offer then entire SEASON for the same price that FUNimation is asking for a measly three episodes. This is why I always have and always will endorse buying bootlegs. Until FUNimation can bring us Dragonball Z at a reasonable price, stick to getting bootleg DVD copies.
OVERALL:
I LOVE this series. Always have, always will. But the outrageous price and the limited amount of episodes you get for that price is unforgivable. I strongly recommend the series, but if you want it uncensored on DVD, go with bootleg copies. There is no excuse for FUNimation charging for three episodes what some TV shows charge for their entire season.
EDITION NOTES:
These new DVDs are readily available in most major retailers of Anime DVDs. Sadly, the price doesn't really differ from retailer to retailer, meaning you're going to almost inevitably be ripped off.
A New Saga of the Old Saiyan Saga.......2006-01-06
This DVD is the beginning of yet another "new" Vegeta Saga. Why call it Vegeta Saga when he comes and fights near the end. But you can answer that question. Now onto the review.
This DVD covers the first three episodes of Nappa and Vegeta landing on Earth, fighting the Z Warriors with the saibaman, and Nappa beginning his fight.

Great anime series, bad dub.......2003-12-31
INTRODUCTION:
The Dragon Ball manga was created by Akira Toriyama, the same person who was previously responsible for the Dr. Slump series, as well as the Dragon Quest (Dragon Warrior in America) series of video games. In the latter half of the eighties, Dragon Ball became a Japanese anime. And when the series drew to a close, he created a follow-up series - Dragon Ball Z. This one also became an anime. Nearly six years after its original Japanese release, Dragon Ball Z finally arrived in America. Unfortunately, Toei Animation (the company that created the anime) added in a number of filler episodes, and FUNimation (the owner of the American rights to the series) was forced to make large amounts of edits so that the show would meet American television standards. Though their dub voice actors actually were pretty good, they had a tendency to mistranslate some information and use a good deal of stupid dialogue. This package contains the second batch of episodes of the series. Read on for my review.
EPISODE OPINIONS:
These are decent dubbed episodes. However, the first episode introduces the horrible "next dimension" line. A scene of Bulma firing a gun at Krillin and Roshi to get them to pay attention was cut. Also, Nappa and Vegeta are still the wrong color (Vegeta just looks WRONG with red hair!) Some of the scenes of Gohan detransforming were edited to be less revealing (which is strange since they showed child Goku's butt all the time in the classic series.) Once again, these were good episodes, but they could have been translated A LOT better.
DVD:
This DVD is good because it has better picture quality than a VHS tape, but horrible because it only contains the edited dub, and not an uncut sub like later Dragon Ball Z DVDs. I recently heard word that FUNimation will be redubbing the Saiyan Saga and the former half of the Frieza saga, so don't go out and buy this right away.
OVERALL:
Overall, The Saiyans does a pretty good job continuing the Dragon Ball Z series - but the dub could have been SO muc better. Although Dragon Ball Z is an excellent anime, I don't recommend this. I recommend seeing the series in its uncut, original Japanese glory; this dub doesn't do it justice.
The Saiyans.......2000-10-05
This DVD is not the best of the bunch, but it is still a needed part in the Dragonball Z saga. This video is more of a transition set, which shows the training of Gohan and the evilness of the Saiyans, Nappa and Vegeta. Although good, it is not the best in this series.
Important Intro to Gohan and Saiyans.......2000-05-05
These episodes are the ones in which the viewers fall in love with Gohan, the pint-sized boy with the heart of a lion, who makes Jake Lloyd in "Phantom Menace" look like a whining infant.
We also meet the Saiyans, whose unblinking evil nature are breathtakingly illustrated. These guys make the "Dark Jedi" from "Phantom Menace" look like prissy juvenile delinquents.
Very important intro to the DBZ world - follow this up with "Tree of Might", which should satisfy the fans rabid for more fighting scenes.
Episodes 5, 6, and 7 are great!.......2000-05-01
These three episodes may not contain non-stop fighting, but there is still a lot going on in each of them. Still, there is plenty of combat in each episode.
The main theme in each of these episodes revolves around Gohan. In the beginning he is afraid of his own shadow. He encounters a few challenges, and as he overcomes each he becomes more and more bold. Not all of the situations come out in his favor, but even these are necessary for his 'training'.
Overall, I would say Volume 2 is pretty cool.
Acceptable, yet slow........1999-11-17
Though there isn't much fighting, this video really does let you get a feel for how evil the saiyans really are. It does a good job at setting the stage for later episodes
