The 1999 TV series reaches a rather inconclusive conclusion in these final episodes. When Erts is commissioned as a full-fledged pilot, the familiar group of students find themselves in competition to succeed him as "top candidate." The rivalry between Zero and Hiead threatens to become a murderous duel when a training exercise turns into a space battle with the alien Victims. Hiead's "Repairer" Ikuni sabotages Zero's mecha suit in an effort to win over her aloof partner, but the inexplicably cat-eared Azuma covers for her. Much of episode 9 is devoted to an odd dream, in which Zero sees himself and his friends as 19th-century schoolchildren. Neither his dream nor his visions of a mysterious, long-haired woman are ever resolved satisfactorily: Pilot Candidate borrows elements from Evangelion and various Gundam adventures but fails to integrate them into a coherent narrative. Zero's experience inside the Goddess has recently earned him quite a bit of p opularity within the G.O.A. When a Pilot is severely injured, the search to select a new top candidate begins! But it is during the candidate selection process in which Victim la unches its new offensive. Zero and the others are ordered to support the Pilots in real l ife combat! Can the Pilot Candidates survive the test?

Some one needs to make a web site that will raise money for this show because it totally rocks. It is a must have animation!!! The only bad thing is taht it isn't finished, but thats i'm typing this. I want someone to make a site that rasies money for this show. I think i can speak for every one when i say we would like to see the rest of the series.
When i first saw this i thought it was the best animation ever i still do.I'm not 18 so i can't make a web site that will raise money for this show. If any of you have seen farscape you will know what I'm talking about.Farscape was taken off the air but since everybody liked it they raised money for ot to be put back on the air. Well this is nearly the same. We just want the animation to be finished.

Watched it years ago on TV and still can't forget it........2004-03-22
I'm buying all four DVDs because I saw the series on Cartoon Network and simply cannot forget about it. Those who say there is no character development are quite obviously blind, because the entire series is about Zero's CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. You say it isn't about the action, so what is it about? Well, it's about the life of the characters and how at a young age they are thrown into a war against an enemy they can barely defeat! The music is excellent, and anyone who says otherwise just doesn't like orchestrated music. This is an anime fans dream soundtrack. The art is amazing, it's quite hard to find an anime with characters that look this good. I'm shocked and surprised at some people's insulting reviews about the series..but trust me: This DVD set is sooo worth it. Even if it does end suddenly, it's just great. I think it ended due to low budgets..but I'm not sure. We can only hope they will schedule more episodes in the future.

Yeah, I'm one of those people who isn't a big fan of Pilot Canidate. I bought it on a whim with Gundam Wing vl1 (which is a bit better then this) after reading a generaly positive review and suddenly comming into some money. Oy, do I wish I had bought something else. To some it up, this anime is just...corny. Corny characters (though I like their sensei), corny dialoge, (so far) corny plot....and most of all, corny music. Possibly the most annoying music I've ever heard in an anime. But on the plus side, the Mechas look cool (though they would have been even cooler if they were cell shaded instead of outright CG), and the show can be somewhat enjoyable at times. Unfortunetly, this is the type of show I will never finish unless i force myself to buy the rest just to see if it gets better, and more so to just have it finished. Anyway, this might just not be my type of show and for you it could be perfect, so i do reccomend checking it out, though I'd strongly advise not buying it till you've seen some of it beforehand. I don't want you to make the mistake I did.

In the future, mankind lost 4 planets due to a terrible mistake. They reteated to space and built colonies,huge domes with glass protecting it. There is only one planet left, Zion. The alien form known as VICTIM is out to destoy it. So.....
Mankind built huge mechas called Ingrids or Goddesses. The candidates must first train to become one of the 5 Goddess pilots. They go to the Goddess Opperating Accademy or GOA. And when they become pilots they go to GIS. And.....
To be a candidate you have to have the abiltity of EX. Having a reaction to such a power turns your hair teal. It may be telepathy or the power to move fast without being seen. OK.....
The story follows 5 candidates. The main character is Zero Enna. He is a hyper boy and can't stop talking about his dream to pilot the White Ingrid that saved him when he was younger. He has a rival named Hiead and friends Yamagi, Roose, Clay, and another senior named Erts whose brother is a pilot.
Zero and his classmates train and live on GOA. And the story also go into the lives of the pilots. Now...
I love the anime and I'm getting the DVDs. It came on Adult Swim on Cartoon Network but was cancelled for some strange reason.

As training continues at the Academy, Zero's special ability--his extraordinary speed--comes to the fore when he's paired with a senior candidate, the telepathic Erts Cocteau. They make an effective duo, fighting together in the test mecha, the Pro-Ings. Erts sees into Zero's rather simple psyche and approves of his single-minded dedication to becoming a pilot. But their partnership proves short-lived: Erts is promoted to commissioned pilot when his older brother Ernest is killed in a battle with the alien Victim. (Zero's rivalry with Hiead falls by the wayside during these episodes.) The designs of both the Pro-Ings and Ingrids are flashy and dramatic, but they're badly animated: the supposedly huge, multi-ton machines have no weight when they move.
