Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Good series, mediocre dub.......2004-01-03

INTRODUCTION:
The Dragon Ball manga was created by Akira Toriyama, the same person who was previously responsible for the Dr. Slump series, as well as the Dragon Quest (Dragon Warrior in America) series of video games. In the latter half of the eighties, Dragon Ball became a Japanese anime. And when the series drew to a close, he created a follow-up series - Dragon Ball Z. This one also became an anime. Nearly six years after its original Japanese release, Dragon Ball Z finally arrived in America. Unfortunately, Toei Animation (the company that created the anime) added in a number of filler episodes, and FUNimation (the owner of the American rights to the series) was forced to make large amounts of edits so that the show would meet American television standards. Though their dub voice actors actually were pretty good, they had a tendency to mistranslate some information and use a good deal of stupid dialogue. This package contains the second batch of episodes of the series. Read on for my review.

EPISODE SUMMARIES:
-Time's Up: Three hours expire and Goku is nowhere to be seen. Nappa continues his assault on Krillin, Piccolo, and Gohan. Piccolo thinks that if they grab his tail, they can render him powerless. Unfortunately, this doesn't work on Nappa, and Piccolo is knocked out. Krillin is also knocked out with a huge blast. The two other warriors continue fighting without much hope, but then they sense a huge power approaching... Goku is back on earth!
-The Return Of Goku: Nappa fires a huge blast to kill Gohan, but Piccolo takes it and he ends up getting killed. Fortunately, Goku arrives on the battlefield just in time to save his friends. He gives them each half a Senzu Bean, and they recover. Goku is so confident in his new abilities that he orders his friends to stay back so he can fight Nappa himself! Is he strong enough?
-Goku Strikes Back: It fast becomes apparent Nappa doesn't have a chance against Goku. Vegeta realizes Nappa is now useless to him, so he kills his former partner. Goku orders Gohan and Krillin to return to Master Roshi's place. Meanwhile, he and Vegeta begin their duel with one another.

EPISODE OPINIONS:
A good deal of dialogue was butchered for the dub (you actually have to see the episodes to know what I mean.) Fortunately, the serious mood of these episodes from the latter half of the Saiyan Saga results in less comic relief - and a much more serious mood - thank god!

DVD:
This DVD is good because it has better picture quality than a VHS tape, but horrible because it only contains the edited dub, and not an uncut sub like later Dragon Ball Z DVDs. I recently heard word that FUNimation will be redubbing the Saiyan Saga and the former half of the Frieza saga, so don't go out and buy this right away.

OVERALL:
Overall, Doom does a pretty good job continuing the Dragon Ball Z series - but the dub could have been SO much better. Although Dragon Ball Z is an excellent anime, I don't recommend this. I recommend seeing the series in its uncut, original Japanese glory; this dub doesn't do it justice.

4 out of 5 stars DBZ-Vol.7:Destruction.......2000-03-19

DBZ has been called the greastest action cartoon of all time. I must agree. The movies consist of the adventures of Goku and his friends as they try to save the Earth. They have supe -human powers to help them. In Vol 7 the fight to save Earth from the evil Sayians begins. It doesn't look good for the Earthlins. Goku, where are you?

4 out of 5 stars its okay.........................2000-02-14

I think DBZ RULES! with a capital R! I asked my mum for me to buy it and she said if I had enough money and I do and im gonna buy IT someday. I think that NAPA is COOOOOL!And VEEJETA HE's cool too! ITS about this guy named GOKU. HE LOOKES LIKE a girl but I was mistaken. He doesn't want to join back with the sayains so he fights them.(geewiz I'd just join with them save the hard work of blood and guts and stains on your pants DONT YOU HATE IT WHEN THAT HAPPENS!)
