Huh?

It is impossible to take a great, super-complcated manga and make it into a good OVA. Luckily Yuki-Sensei figured this out. It could not make it into a series form due to its content "incestual feelings, male with a female soul, rebellion against earth" 'nuff said.

It is odd to say I got into the Manga because of how BAD the OVA was. I didn't get it at all after the first viewing, but I fell in love with the art work. If you ever see the "Angel Cage" book, BUY IT. It rivals only Mikimoto-sensei's work in character design and detail (see Macross, do you remember love, some of Evagelion and currently Ecole du ciel). Anyways, this OVA does not summarize the Manga or provide an alternate adventure.

It just does an introduction of the characters of Setsuna, Kurai, Sara, and others. It doesn't even get into sevorte or any of the major story arcs of the series.

If you do not like the OVA I suggest RUNNING to the nearest Borders / B&N and browsing through the first 3 books. It is a satisfactory OVA, better than some of the other OVA's floating around on Amazon.

Angel Sanctuary was one of the most brilliant things they'd ever read. I'm not sure who said that, but I'm sure someone did. And, maybe that's the problem. The manga was so complex and lovely and the anime is only a hour and a half. Don't get me wrong, the anime looks great. But, the characters full flat a lot of the time and a great deal of the plot seems rushed.

This anime is beautiful to look at, but by no means perfect. It's a must for fans of the story, but those that haven't read Angel Sanctuary may want to pick something else up at their local anime store.

Angel Sanctuary is, for lack of a better term, brilliant. The art was incredibly stunning, and the plot line, though a tentative subject, was too enthralling for me to stop the DVD.

The incestuous love between Setsuna and Sara is exactly that, so if you do not like such things, please refrain from buying this disk. However, if you can appreciate the tender relationship the two share, and comprehend what it means for the plot, then I think you will enjoy it.

Angst lovers, like myself, will certainly revel in this dazzling movie. Those who enjoy characters with intense, in-depth emotions have, without doubt, found the OVA anime movie of their dreams.

Those who want a cheerful movie filled with candy, bunnies, and girls in ridiculously short skirts would be better off with Sailor Moon or Ikki Tousen. ^_^

I encourage any interested to buy this movie. It is most certainly worth every penny!

Absolutely Horrendous.......2006-07-03

I can see no reason whatsoever for anybody to ever watch this Ova. It's absolutely dreadful. The plot and characters never get a chance to really develop and personally I'm totally grossed out by the fact that Setsuna lusts after his own sister. I've never been a fan of these super dark, angst-filled, disgusting kind of plots. Who wants to watch a series about a bunch of characters whom are impossible to like?

Awesome anime deal!.......2003-10-23

I decided to buy this package rather than just getting "Angel Sanctuary" by itself, and I think it's a great deal. I'd never seen "Harlock Saga" before, and this DVD gives you the entire series here, which is quite long and definitely gives your money's worth. It's a slightly different style of anime than Angel Sanctuary, looks like it's a bit older; also by contrast, there's no real blood or nudity or incest or tribes of warring archangels. However, there are space pirates, mysterious pipe-organs, and tribes of warring gods and ancient creatures-- it's like a space-pirate version of the "Ring of the Nibelungen". Classy. And Captain Harlock has some incredibly stylish scars to go with that foxy pirate outfit.

As for "Angel Sanctuary", what can one say that everyone else hasn't gushingly said before? It's the most eye-hurtingly beautiful, wild, erotic, daring girl-anime out there today. Those mentally-imbalanced angels, those multiple dismemberments and decapitations, those long-legged schoolboys with the dewy eyes, yoicks!! Sadly, the end of the story leaves you hanging almost in mid-action.... Those of us who can't read Japanese (so as to get the printed manga for the whole story) are all praying anxiously & patiently for more of the series to become available.

The only faults I can find with this DVD issue (both disks) is that the chapters/programs in the menu are each too long... It could use finer separation, so that you don't have to scroll forward & back to find the point within the chapter you want. They also left the beginnning & end credits for all of the separate episodes, which is an annoyance to fast-forward through. However, that's only a minor annoyance. Great deal in general.
