Who and what is Vash the Stampede, a.k.a. "The Humanoid Typhoon"? To bounty hunters, he's an outlaw with 60,000,000,000 Double Dollars on his head. To Meryl Stryfe and Millie Thompson of the Bernardelli Insurance Society, he's a walking disaster area who's cost the company a fortune. To otaku, he's one of the most popular characters in anime. Based on Yasuhiro Nightow's manga, this comic adventure takes place in the distant future on a desert planet that looks like the American Old West. Vash wanders from town to town, unsuccessfully pursuing peace, doughnuts, and "the mayfly known as love." Meryl and Millie follow him, trying to minimize the destruction, but Vash's only real friend is the gun-totin' preacher Nicholas Wolfwood. Despite their grudging affection, Wolfwood articulates the other characters' thoughts when he tells Vash, "When you're around, things always seem to get worse!"
Anime heroes tend to be either cold-blooded warriors who kill for honor (the Gundam Wing pilots) or unlikely nerds who grow into the role of warrior when it's thrust upon them (Shinji Ikari in Evangelion). Sometimes comic and kooky, sometimes gentle and earnest, Vash reveres life and agonizes over the bloodshed he inadvertently causes. He'd rather eat than demonstrate his amazing marksmanship: he doesn't fire a shot until the fifth episode, although one of his arms is actually a gun. Voice actor Johnny Yong Bosh articulates both Vash's suffering and adolescent exuberance whenever he sees a pretty girl with exceptional panache. The runaway popularity of Trigun seems to have surprised the filmmakers. Although no plans have been announced for additional animation, a new manga series has appeared, Trigun Maximum. It seems unlikely that the artists would prematurely end the adventures of a figure with so much potential--and so many fans. --Charles Solomon
Description

Trigun- a.k.a. Rurouni Kenshin with guns.......2007-08-30
I love the Trigun series. Trigun plays very similar to Rurouni Kenshin, so similar that people who have seen the two could call it a "Rurouni Kenshin" with guns. However, there are significant differences between the two.
First, Trigun looks incredibly cool. Vash the Stampede, with his crimson red trenchcoat and spiked haircut, looks like a mix between Dragonball Z and the Matrix. In fact, there are many flashy poses of Vash with the wind blowing his trenchcoat out in the intro. The other characters look just as cool. Nicholas D. Wolfwood wears a blue suit and carries a big cross-shaped gun. Meryl Stryfe wears a white cape filled with miniature pistols. Millie Thompson totes a gatling gun. Obviously this is an action series with a cool look to it.
Second, Vash is incredibly emotional. Although many people don't like Vash's emotional whining, I actually appreciate him. Vash isn't a cruel character like Major Kusanagi in "Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex". He is incredibly human, and he tries his best not to kill people. In fact, he acts more like a negotiator, who prefers to talk people out of ruthless revenge plots.
This first box set focuses on the comedic side of Vash. Vash steals some donuts from Meryl to eat while gunmen are chasing them. Vash dances to his walkman while gunman are shooting at him during a hostage situation. The battles are simple, but they have many hilarious moments. The only really serious battle is between Vash and Diablo.
Trigun is my favorite action anime to date. Although I liked the annihilistic Evangelion, there's only so much uncompromising violence that I can take. Trigun was just the right anime for me. Other people will definitely love it too.
Good, but..........2007-08-25
Well, Vash is truly a classic, and most big time anime fans are already familiar with Trigun by now, but I think it's worth noting that the series really starts stronger than it finishes.
I give it 4 stars because the early period of the show is great. The bizarre, offbeat humor in the early episodes, and the super cool warrior moments Vash has a bit later on are all worth watching. Wolfwood is also quite cool, and helps breathe some life into later portions of the show.
Toward the end though, all the coolness and humor just sort of fade away. Vash falls into a pattern which makes him pretty much unwatchable unless you like being preached at, or perhaps if you don't mind watching with the tv muted.
There really are fun moments, and the first 2/3 or so of the show is almost as good as anime gets, but the later episodes really spoiled it for me.
Warning: A Horrible Quality "Boxed Set".......2007-08-17
Let me start by saying the product gets a 1 star but the series itself gets a 3-4 star rating. I enjoyed this series very much. Its not the best and its not the worst anime series out there. I own volumes 1-4 and decided it made more sense to complete the series with buying the "boxed set". I was hoping one day they would make a reasonably priced total package. The tin case "Remix" edition price is far too unreasonable. When i searched and came across "Trigun- The Complete Boxed Set" it seemed like the answer i was looking for. After receiving the "boxed set" i was a little suspicious to say the least. Some how they managed to fit the entire 26 episode series into 3 dvds. When doing that it takes away the quality of presentation and sound. Immediately you will notice the picture is off because the screen will keep moving in and out. The picture will focus and lose focus again and again throughout the episode. This makes viewing more of a task rather than pleasure. This is the worst quality dvd i ever bought and the product is just unacceptable. Sad to say but i own vcds that are just as good or even better than this dvd. The packaging is great but the transfer is pitiful. I didnt realize it at the time of purchase but this "boxed set" is really a bootleg. I wonder if the people at geneon are aware this horrible bootleg is out there on the net. Now i know the reason why ive never came across this "boxed set" in local stores. If you are expecting quality and looking to get your moneys worth then pass up this "boxed set". Truthfully in the end, i feel like it was a waste of money on my part since i will never watch these 3 dvds ever.
Vash the Whiner.......2007-07-12
If you like goofy humor, you'll love the first episodes. If you love action, you'll like the next couple episodes after that.
But the rest! What happened?!
Vash starts out as a complete goofball, I mean, you can't take him serious. His voiceactor has this goofy voice that makes me laugh.
Do yourself a favor though, don't listen to the american dub, they can't act.
Anyway, from being this lovable goof, Vash turns into this cool gunman. Goof + action, weird mix but works.
But once you get to know about Knives, the anime just goes downhill.
Our lovable goof and gunman turns into a whiner. Whine, whine, whine, whine, angst, whine, whine, depression, whine, whine, whine.
He does nothing but whine!!!
And why is he whining?
Because he promised his caretaker he would never kill anyone - COME ON!!!
So, even though he is the best gunman in the whole world, he just watches people die and whines about it.
Just shoot the !%#¤"£@&¤&! villain and save those poor people! JEEZ!!!
But nooooo, Vash is portrayed at the poor looser who can't kill and then he gets upset because people die.
I was also irritated that Gung-Ho Guns got so little screen-time, I mean, one of them is one the whole show for 5 SECONDS!!!
You see him once, then you see him a couple of episodes later, then you see him a couple of seconds - then he isn't in the show anymore!!!
Oh, and let's add Legato to the mix.
Obiously hates Vash, worships Knives and... Legato has a mind-controlling ability!
So he could just kill, kill, kill like he wants to.
But noooo, that would end the show, so he basically walks around, eat some food, look a bit scary and does NOTHING!!!
The only reason I forgive him is because he is so handsome, but come on, he was portrayed so badly.
This anime is so bad compared to the manga, sure Vash was a whiner there too, but at least you got more Gung-Ho Guns time.
Wow!.......2007-07-11
Quick Delivery, it is the entire series, and very nice, no choppiness or anything.
who can beat that price?
It was totally worth every penny. ^^
