Description
Katie Liner (Kellie Martin) is a teenaged girl with a bright future who is swept off her feet by an attractive, but dubious young man, Jimmy Pettit (Ivan Sergei). The two soon marry and live a storybook life on the outside. But, on the inside they live with a terrible secret - he's physically abusive and she's too afraid to confide in anyone, especially her domineering father (Kevin Dobson), a police detective. When their son is born, the beatings increase in frequency due to Jimmy's jealousy over the baby. Yet, each time he apologizes and promises it will never happen again. Upon the impending birth of their second child, Katie realizes the situation will only get worse and makes an earnest attempt to leave her husband. When he threatens to kill her, she turns the tables and murders him in self defense. Faced with a life sentence, will a jury believe Katie's story and find her not guilty?
Customer Reviews:
If Someone Had Known (True Stories Collection).......2007-04-12
This is a very good movie. It arrived quickly and in excellent condition. I recommend this movie to those who, like myself, enjoy true stories.
A powerful, gripping tragedy.......2005-12-08
A pampered daughter of a police chief (Kellie Martin) finds romance with an attractive, polite young man who seems to give her a wonderful home and child - but beneath their perfect surface lies abuse, and when Jimmy gets more violent as time goes on, Katie finds herself with no future at all. Part of the 'True Stories Collection', If Someone Had Known is a powerful, gripping tragedy. Keith is an oversized child unready to become a father even though he's married to Kim, who has always longed for children and is determined to adopt. When baby Brittany arrives in their lives Keith finds not only his carefree ways challenged, but a newfound love for his new daughter - a love shaken by the death of his wife from cancer, and by a court system determined to take away his baby before the adoption is complete. Teri Polo provides a gripping, believable protagonist as a young woman determined to have a child, and Andrew McCarthy as Keith is the perfect vision of a young father unprepared for the challenges of parenthood.
educational film.......2005-07-31
I remember seeing this on tv about 10 years ago. It was well written and Kellie Martin was perfect for the role of the people pleasing young girl. It was based on a true story of a girl who marries young and winds up being physically and verbally abused by her spouse. It is a very violent movie. I don't think anyone under 13 should watch it, but it is so realistic. Abuse can happen to anyone, even a policeman's daughter. The way to help prevent abuse is to realize that it can happen to anyone and to pay attention to the warning signs. I think parents should watch this movie with their kids once they start dating. My thanks to Kellie Martin who is so passionate about doing movies that are able to impact lives for the better. I am glad she is so wise and caring, she really has made a difference in my life.
P.S. For Kellie Martin fans...I just found out that Life Goes On will be released on dvd in the summer of 2006! It's about time!!!!!! I hope they will eventually release all four seasons of LGO, the most wonderful tv show ever.

After holding her own opposite heavy hitters like Frank Sinatra (Ocean's Eleven) and Lee Marvin (Point Blank), Angie Dickinson earned the right to top billing. For four years, Police Woman gave the cool blonde that chance and, as she admits in the DVD commentary, the idea of becoming a household name was a big attraction. (It worked.) Sgt. Suzanne "Pepper" Anderson, a two-year police veteran is first introduced, as Lisa Beaumont, in Police Story's season finale, which opens this five-disc set. In "The Gamble," Pepper proves she has what it takes to handle undercover work as she foils both a prostitution ring and a gambling racket. Airing in the coveted slot after The Rockford Files, the gritty, yet glamorous Police Woman became a top 20 hit. In the season premiere ("The End Game," actually the fourth show), Pepper is joined by the rest of the vice squad: Italian-speaking Irishman Lt. Bill Crowley (Earl Holliman, taking over from Bert Convy) and Police Story holdovers Royster (Charles Dierkop) and Styles (Ed Bernard). Together the four were as tough on crime as they were fierce about fashion. Among hundreds of groovy get-ups, sartorial standouts include Royster's patchwork cap, Styles' suede jacket, Crowley's plaid sports jacket, and Pepper's studded pantsuit. First year guest stars include TV vets, like Robert Vaughn ("Blast"), Patti Duke and John Astin ("Nothing Left to Lose"), and Dickinson's Big Bad Mama co-star William Shatner ("Smack"). Police Woman also provided a showcase for up-and-comers like Kathleen Quinlan ("The Beautiful Die Young") and Phillip Michael Thomas ("It's Only a Game")--as a character named "Sonny" no less. (In the show's fourth season, another up-and-comer named Michael Mann would direct an episode.) In 2002, TV Guide voted Dickinson the sexiest TV star of all time after Diana Rigg and George Clooney. --Kathleen C. Fennessy
Description
Smart and sexy, tough and brassy. Meet Sergeant Suzanne "Pepper" Anderson, LAPD's top undercover cop. A member of the Criminal Conspiracy Unit, Pepper works the wild side of the street, where she poses as everything from a gangster's moll to a streetwalker to a prison inmate. Join Golden Globe-winner Angie Dickinson and guest stars Cathy Rigby, Larry Hagman, Pat Morita, Bob Crane and Philip Michael Thomas for 22 episodes and the 2 hour pilot of explosive crime-fighting action and excitement in POLICE WOMAN: THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON.

Pepper Andseron.......2007-08-03
Like many shows back in the 70's, This one was one of my favorites, along with Swat, Starsky and Hutch, and Baretta. Police Woman was a ground breaking show, showing that a woman can be tough yet feminine in her work. I remember being 11 years old, and having a huge crush on Angie Dickenson. The commentaries are great also. Love it....
Excellent.......2007-07-07
I initially watched these shows when they were repeats back in the mid 80's.
I am not sure what I like looking at more, Angie, the decor in Pepper's apartment, or the cars. I would give anything to have that Mercury Couger that Pepper drives.
If you were old enough to remember the 70's, you will really enjoy this show. I can not wait for more seasons to be released.
Angie and Earl Are A Winning Team.......2007-06-21
Angie Dickinson has as much charisma as any female in the history of television. And it's the kind of charisma that comes from a deep sense of personal character. Put that together with her wonderful beauty and you have one of the best and most important female characters in TV history. Put her together with Earl Holliman and you have a female/male team that never gets old, always seems fresh and real and human. Put that together with 70's style, the cars, the clothes, the lingo, and you get a cop show that is as much fun to watch as any cop show that has ever been on the air. If you watched this when it first aired you will love seeing it again.
The DVD extras are marvelous. There are a ton of very insightful comments from both Angie and Earl in the commentaries, and the both of them make you feel as if you are an old friend sitting with them in a nice, cozy place and watching a show that they loved doing.
I just hope that season 2 will be released and very soon.
Please, Sony.......2007-05-25
Sony: Please release the rest of this great TV series. The other reviewers covered all the attributes of "Police Woman." I am simply urging the release of the remaining three seasons. The commentaries alone on the Season 1 release are worth the price!
Policewoman Rocks!!!!!!!!!.......2007-04-10
I completely missed this show when it was on TV (I was only about 3 years old), but I have to say, it was worth the wait! True to the 1970s, this show is edgy (on par & sometimes edgier than current cop shows)--since it's not saddled with political correctness, the issues the show deals with are direct & raw, yet, because it was the 1970s, the show isn't visually gruesome like so many shows are now. The show is amusing at times--watching the actors jump around with their guns acutally reminded me of 6 year olds pretending to be cops on TV during recess--not very convincing as cops, but did the job for a 1970s adventure show. Angie Dickeson is really fun to watch, she's tough, and feminine, and fun, and when put in context for a groundbreaking female-led show, it's really fabulous to see where shows like Charlie's Angels & Alias began. The main cast has a fun cameraderie, which is a pleasure to watch from show to show. I am thrilled with the series and am so glad I took the risk to purchase it, since I had no idea what it would be like. What I love the most, though, is the theme song. Even after watching the full season, I still found myself grooving to it. Policewoman rocks!

BETTER THAN EXPECTED.......2007-07-01
When I read that Regina King had produced this movie I thought I'd give it a try. It was pretty good. It's not a "10" movie, but you can follow it.
B movie at best.......2006-12-04
I'm not exactly sure how this movie got 4 1/2 stars because it is 2 stars at best. When I see 4 1/2 starts I'm thinking movies like The color purple, love jones, Ray, etc. etc. This movie is a B movie, not the type of movie that gets to the theatres, which is why this one didn't make it. I wouldn't buy this movie, I would rent it if you are really interested.
Okay........2006-03-17
This movie wasn't so bad. regina King actually produced it. I'll say one thing, I am usually good at predicting the outcome of a movie or a certain character, but this one, I was not. It was nice. Blair Underwood played a thug:)

It may sound like a gimmick--The Greatest '70s Cop Shows is a compilation of first episodes from Starsky and Hutch, Police Woman, S.W.A.T., The Rookies, and Charlie's Angels--but this DVD anthology really opens one's eyes to the look and feel of dramatic television during the so-called Me Decade. Except for Angels, which never wavered from its self-mocking, glossy action/stiff exposition playbook, these cop-program debuts (four of them from Aaron Spelling) import much of their fluid camera movement, multiple points-of-view, and dynamic, often wordless storytelling from the era's rough-and-tumble action movies (e.g., The French Connection). Which is to say these shows may be dumb but not necessarily cheesy (except Angels' post-modern cheese). There is a lot to admire about the opening ambush in S.W.A.T.'s "The Killing Ground," the hard-boiled camaraderie of Police Woman's "The End Game," and especially the reckless physicality and ironic jokes of Starsky and Hutch's "Savage Sunday." --Tom Keogh

Customer Reviews:
A Starsky and Hutch Fan.......2004-12-06
I love the fact that they are putting out DVD's like this I grew up with all these shows and I love all of them and seeing David Soul (Hutch from Starsky and Hutch, He is Hot !!!!) in it is a plus also !!!!! Starsky and Hutch was my favorite show as a kid and I still love watching it. It is worth the money to buy it with all 5 shows they were some of the best shows on TV in the 70's.
3 stars if you didn't grow up with these shows.......2004-10-25
I was a child of the 70s and remembered these shows fondly. I took them VERY seriously at the time. Now they are instant nostalgia and a hoot. I love the bland studio bars and apartments, the lack of much blood after some serious gun fights, the friendly neo-fascist cops who do their duty & then go party. These are the "first" episodes of each show but that is misleading. Most started as 2 hour movies of the week. These are the first of the on going episodes but in most cases the viewer's second helping.
The Rookies-the most social conscious of the group. The street wise cop who grew up in the 'hood with the very naive suburban kid. Nice sentiments here about getting through to gang members excpet that these guys are psuhing 40 when they should be teens & the slum is obviously a Hollywood backlot with lots of newspapers thrown all over it.
Police Woman-good drama, Angie does some nice touches. The show isn't just about her though, a whole unit so it's kinda misleading. That hippuie undercover has on of the oddest faces to grace a TV screen. And I loved the casual traffic driving past a desperate shoot out early on.
SWAT-Now this felt like a pilot. Like most of SWAT's villains, total psychos. Although no one mentions it, they are sniffing alot during the episode so grown up viewers will know that they are all coked up.
Starsky & Hutch-lame plot but good commadarie. Watch for a sexy cameo but Suzanne Sommers. This show was a little more into innuendo but then came...
Charlie's Angels-not a cop show! This one actually isz the first time we'd seen the Angels. Not bad but the whole Doyle as a preacher bit was grating. I remeber them calling this a "jiggle show" but note the lack of the extra large busts we've come to expect nowadays.
I wish they'd have released the "best" ep of each show rather than the "first", now that would be a 5 star DVD!
Maybe!.......2004-09-27
I captioned this as maybe , because I Love everyone of these shows , and the individual programs chosen for this Collection , but having purchased this , and having watched it . It is great for those last two reason , but let me tell you were the problem lies . Copying these from whatever , or however , from the very first show on the collection you run into the problem that the sound does not match the picure . The words are heard bfore the Lips even move . Now this is regular on the Charlie's Angels show , and sparadically on the others , but I still enjoyed the Collection Purchase very much .
OH.....JUST SHOOT ME!!.......2004-06-03
It was just GREAT having the chance to own this DVD ! I am a big fan of America's Cop Shows and this item was really a "must -have".I just wish they could release more episodes of "The Police Woman" and "The Rookies" ( with Kate Jackson!!!), which are very interesting and which I had never watched before due to they had never been aired here in Brazil."The Angels" are "foxy" as always and you also get a chance to watch "Starski & Hutch" in the same package.
More Angie, please...!.......2004-01-30
"Starsky & Hutch" were entertainingly silly for a couple of years, as were "Charlie's Angels", and "The Rookies" looks earnest but dated and tad naive. "SWAT" is essentially a shoot-em-up with few characters you get to know at all.
Interestingly, the one out of the five (and the one NOT produced by Aaron Spelling) that is easliy the most legitimate cop drama is "Police Woman" with Angie Dickinson--- it feels like a damn movie... something the other four certainly do not.
Funny how memories have written-off this series as a single, older version of a Charlie's Angel who still has her badge but does nothing else but turn "tricks", when, in fact, "Police Woman" seems to be the most sophisticated of the lot; it's aged beautifully.
Instead of packaging this mismatch of fun but otherwise unconnected 70s cop-show memories, let's see a DVD release of at LEAST "Police Woman"s first season, as I seem to remember it was the best year of the show--- and certainly quite removed from the other more comic-strip, though watchable, entries.

Customer Reviews:
A great movie.......2007-09-11
This movie is on par with some of the greatest cop dramas including Training Day and Narc. This movie is great in so many ways it is impossible to list. Definitely worth the 23.99 they are charging for it new. Don't listen to the other reviews, this movie was fantastic.
This Movie is just plain AWFUL !!!! Avoid it like the PLAGUE !!!!.......2007-08-20
I hate to disagree with the other esteemed reviewer of this cinematic nightmare, but it is my duty to inform the innocent viewing audience that this was a completely AWFUL movie.
The dialog was ridiculous, the "action" scenes were right out of a Keystone Cops cartoon, the acting was beneath contempt (including some fairly well-known actors who definitely should have known better), and at no time does it rise above the level of a mid-60's soft-core porn movie, which coincidentally it actually becomes once the characters seek refuge at (cliche alert) a "flight attendant's" house.
Beware of any movie in which one of the characters has a middle name of "The Dragon", especially when he appears to be about 60 years old with martial arts skills that are on par with one of the zombies in Dawn of the Dead. Beware any movie in which Gary Busey utters the following immortal lines while consoling a guy whose father committed suicide: "Just look at this as an....(forgetting the script)....an.....what's the word?....(someone says it from off camera) an evolution....of your....your....what's the word? (again from off camera)....your destiny." I kid you not. Everyone involved in this wretched production must have been over-medicated or delusional, including the poor devils who put up the money to produce it.
In conclusion. It is so awful as to be laughable, therefore, if you do rent or buy it, do so for its (unintentional) comedy content, definitely not for its drama. It is as Gary Busey would say....uh.....uh....what's the word?.....AWFUL !!!
Beyond Oscar.......2007-08-14
This is the best movie anyone has ever made. Gary Busey is at his insane best. I won't ruin the plot for you because I've never seen the movie, but I know it's good because I can feel it. My extra senses are seldom wrong, and after the nurse comes in to clip my toe nails and give me my medicine, I'll write another review.

Product Description
Both brilliantly acted and sung by the internationally acclaimed South African theater company, Dimpho Di Kopane (DDK), U-Carmen is a stunning adaptation of perhaps the world s best-loved opera, Carmen. Re-imagined in the modern world of South African pool halls, bars, courtyards and barracks U-Carmen tells the story of a cigarette factory-worker, Carmen, (Malefane) and her doomed love affair with a police sergeant. As the two grow more emotionally connected, their relationship escalates violently, culminating in a tragic conclusion of revenge and madness.

Beautiful.......2007-08-20
I loved this movie and the acting, my only problem is tha Amazon tells us the movie is in English and it's not. Stop fooling the customers. If fact Amazon needs to change all the other foreign films thay say are in English and are not. Customer beware.

a forgotten, but good little western.......2007-09-07
Dean Martin plays the bad guy in this one, and he does a good job being ruthless, cold and completely without conscience. George Peppard plays the anti-heroic hero, typical of westerns (and many other genres) in the mid 1960's. Jean Simmons is great as the female lead, stil very lovely at 40-ish, playing a tough but vulnerable woman with guts and determination. JOhn McIntyre is great as the aging former sherriff who can still teach the young guys a few lessons.
The plot is fairly simple, quite unrealistic and certainly nothing new for a western -- the bad guy came to town as a lawman, slowly bullying his way into 51% ownership of every business in town. One business owner (Simmons) is still holding out, refusing to be intimidated into selling out. She is trying to run a stage coach line - with only one stage coach - and has brought in McIntrye and his protege Peppard for help. They have become part owners in the business. After an initial reluctance to get involved, and a few cat and mouse games with Dino, Peppard finally throws his lot in with Simmons in a big way. They fall in love during the proceedings, of course. The final showdown between Dean and his henchmen and Peppard's crew is an old fashioned shoot-em-up, blow-em-up melee.
Pretty violent by 1967 standards, though mild compared to Peckinpah's contemporaneous work. The lynching scene at the beginning has the power to disturb, and Dean smacks Jean Simmons around in another scene.
Very little humor, except a few of McIntyre's saltier remarks, and one scene in which Simmons and Pppard try to drink one another under the table.
Peppard and Simmons make a good romantic pairing, considering the fact that she was several years older than him.
Violent and rough.......2007-04-16
I saw this one when it came out. I remember at the time that it savaged by the critics as too violent. I saw it again recently on tv and I remembered that comment and laugh. You see this came out in the middle of the Italian westerns. The Italian westerns were beginnig to turn to violence to keep the audience that they had started with the Dollar movies. American westerns were just trying to survive, so they looked to the Italians for help. JERICHO was more violent than what US westerns were but not violent enough for the Italian western audience. This caused this one to die which was a shame. JERICHO had good blood lines. The story was based on a AL Cody novel and had very "cool" actors in Martin and Peppard. The story is tight and the characters are well drawn and the violence...well later American movies and American audiences took to violence with black ganster moview and biker movies. God for bid that someone try to change the American western. JERICHO today is a very good western and one must keep in mind the time in which it was made when they watch it. For you see it is also a time capsule of American movie history too.
dino goes bad out west and shows he can still act.......2006-01-25
can you believe it , dean is the BAD guy in this film and he's good at it. i always liked this film and was happy to find it on dvd and in widescreen.not for the whole family but a good adult western.check it out and you won't be sorry.
Martin's Best Western.......2005-02-16
Dino made a number of Westerns, everything from the comic Western Pardners with Jerry Lewis, to a whodunit Western, Five Card Stud with Robert Mitchum, to playing an alcoholic lawman in Rio Bravo. But Martin had a field day playing the villain in Rough Night In Jericho, a hard-bitten, violent movie.
Martin plays Jason Flood, an ex-lawman who has taken over the town of Jericho. George Peppard and John McIntire plays former lawmen as well, who have been contracted to provide a stage to Jean Simmons, who Flood is trying to force into going into business with him. Flood is also an ex of Simmons, which makes him even more determined not to let Peppard and McIntyre help her out.
Things get increasingly violent until the final showdown, where the blood flows freely. Everyone is good in this film, fro mthe three leads to McIntire, who was always superb, particularly in Westerns, as well as the great Slim Pickens as one of Flood's henchmen. Rough Night In Jericho is overlooked, but it's very entertaining.
I hoped for more.......2000-07-06
I expected more from this when I rented it, but overall it wasn't too bad either. The name of the movie gives you most of the storyline: A rough night in Jerico. Too bad though, this movie had potential

Jake Busey steps into Rutger Hauer's cowboy boots to remind viewers about the dangers of picking up hitchhikers in this sequel to the 1986 thriller. Though suggested, it's unclear whether Busey's black-clad hitcher is actually supposed to be Hauer, who blackmailed teen driver Jim (C. Thomas Howell) for a series of killing 17 years earlier, but he makes life miserable all the same for the grown Jim (Howell again), now an trauma-plagued cop, and his girlfriend (Kari Wuhrer) as they drive through Texas (played here by Canada, and well photographed by George Mooradian). But where the original Hitcher was a taut exercise in suspense, executive producer Charles Meeker's script is simply a retread of its predecessor's highlights, including the infamous "drawn and quartered" scene, and gives the three leads little to do. Busey tries hard, but lacks Hauer's formidable presence, which may disappoint fans of the original; undemanding frightfest aficionados might enjoy this best. --Paul Gaita
Customer Reviews:
Wow - Hitcher 2.......2007-07-19
Now when I first watched this movie, I was screaming my head off. After I watched it again, I said to myself, self, this is crazy!! I loved this movie and watched the first one with Jennifer Jason Leigh. That was insane. I am a big fan of Kari Wuhrer and Jake Busey. But with all films that have a II, III, et., you loose the magic that the first one had. Why try and repeat it again.
Entertaining!.......2007-03-22
I seen this movie on USA network the other day. I haven't seen the first one but I enjoyed this one. It wasn't right that the guy from the first one died though. Jake Busey has skills like his dad. It shows in this movie. He is a freaky psycho in this movie! It is quite frightening! The movie is very entertaining, but every time the girl finds a way to stop the psycho, he blames everything on the girl or he always finds a way to get out of trouble. That's the only bad thing. Otherwise, buy it! I plan to! I gave it 3 stars because it is not a 4 star movie. It really is a 3 and a half. Don't listen to the bad reviews. You'll love it.
Pretty Good Thriller............2006-03-03
As a fan of The Hitcher, I was curious to see The Hitcher II. I was not disappointed. Although not quite as good as the first Hitcher, I found this movie thrilling and suspenseful for not being a horror movie. C. Thomas Howell returns in this sequel as Jim Halsey who survived the crazed Hitcher of the first movie. His girlfriend in the movie, Maggie ( played by the very pretty Kari Wuhrer ) is a tough cookie and delivers a great performance for she is a survivor!! Jim decides to take Maggie back to Texas where his original nightmare began years ago. They come across a hitchhiker who Maggie wants to pick up. After being a victim of the first hitchhiker, Jim does not want to pick up any more hitchhikers but gets talked into it by his girlfriend. The new crazed hitcher is named Jack ( played by Jake Busey ). Busey also delivers a good performance as a crazed man. Their journey turns into a nightmare when they realize they have picked up a psychopath. From then on, the film has many twists and surprises. I found it was entertaining from beginning to end. There is strong violence in this movie but it's not your basic gore movie. I really liked this movie and don't regret buying it. If you like thrillers, this is a movie for you. I don't quite understand the bad reviews about this movie. I'd suggest renting it and decide for yourself. I think most people will like it.
SEQUEL?.......2005-11-27
Face it people, this is not T2 or The Godfather Part II, and why is there a sequel to the hitcher anyway? The first "The Hitcher" was a classic movie which was a perfect reimagining of Steven Speilberg's classic DUEL. There was no need for a sequel. The story was told, nothing more to tell. A sequel? Dragonheart fell victim for this. A sequel will just tell the story all over again. Not even C. Thomas Howell could save this movie from being a failure. All in all, not entertaining and unnecessary. Not recomended.
Not Quite as Good as the Original.......2005-11-18
C. Thomas Howell reprises his role as Jim Halsey in this sequel to the original "Hitcher". Still haunted by earlier events, Jim and his girlfriend Maggie (Kari Wuhrer) decide to confront his demons once and for all. After being relieved of his duties as a police officer for using excessive force in breaking up a child abduction, Jim calls his friend Captain Ethridge, who helped him out earlier. The Captain convinces Jim and Maggie to come back to Texas so Jim can confront his feelings and erase his anxieties. Jim has never told his secret to Maggie, so she doesn't know why he keeps having flashbacks and is acting so strangely.
However, upon reaching their destination, the same sequence of events starts all over again, as Maggie forcefully convinces Jim to pick up a hitchhiker along the same strech of roadway that Jim had travelled 15 years earlier. The apparent survivor of an accident, Jack (Jake Busey) thumbs a ride from Jim and Maggie. Unknown to them at the time, Jake is the one who caused the accident. Soon, Jim and Maggie are fighting for their lives against another psychotic hitchhiker. Who will survive?
I thought the first movie was better than this one. I do think that C. Thomas Howell, Jake Busey, and Kari Wuhrer do good jobs in their roles, but the story is all too predictable (although there are some unexpected happenings). Even the scene with the victim tied between the truck and trailer is revised from the first movie. There's not much originality in this film, either. It relies too much on the first movie. I did like the flashbacks to the first film, though. The glaring omission from this movie is Rutger Hauer's amazing portrayal as the hitcher. Although Jake Busey does a pretty good job portraying the hitcher, Rutger Hauer's performance in the first movie is much better. If you've seen the original "Hitcher", then this movie is worth watching only to see how the story plays out. If you haven't seen the first movie, then you'll have a hard time following the storyline of this movie.
