Description
Join the Joie de Vivre club with the maddeningly charming Lola, as she plots to loosen up her fiancé in this exuberant comedy. Everyone is wild about Lola - even, some suspect, her own stepfather
Originally titled "Monella (Rascal)", "Frivolous Lola" has generally been available in censored versions. Here, for the first time outside of Italy, and with Subtitles, is the uncut masterwork of erotica at its most humorous. Long renowned for his work in documentaries and the avant-garde, director Tinto Brass is now famous as the world's premier erotic filmmaker, turning out movies that have bridged the gender gap, earning at least as many ardent female admirers as male fans. "Frivolous Lola" is perhaps his most likeable film yet.

great entertainment.......2007-07-11
i was going to say great adult entertainment but thought that adult would give too much the 'adult' inference. this is a fun, ribald, humourous, risque and adult flick. not porno, just adult in its moods, humor and visuals. a type of flick not made anymore, just adult fun.
Get stuff low tec adult fav.......2007-05-25
Great, loved, and fun too. This film nice to watch when there's nothing you got in your DVD Adult collection.I'm a big fan of Tinto Brass it's to bad some of Hollywood movie machine studio don't pruduce the guy film, but thank god they don't his film are really racey.I'm being kind by saying that.I lot of other filmmakers try to follow this guyd film and some filmmaker sucseed and some failed badly.
Cheeky is a good film for adult lots of nudity and sex.
For thoughs who like soft core film this is it
I say buy it.
You Rascal You.......2007-02-15
This is a waste of film. Tinto Brass probably wanted to make a tease-flick, but this is just a shame. The young lady who can't keep her skirt down flaunts her desire for sex before marriage in such a way as to embarass the viewer - especially shameful is the bar scene where she keeps displaying her crotch to a table of soldiers in order to get her boyfriend jealous. Too bad this went too far. The Italian title, "Rascal," is a better fit for this one.
Whatever Lola Wants.......2007-01-13
It seems to be a leading lady in a Tinto Brass film you must:
* Be young and attractive
* Have an exceptional sensuous body
* Not be shy about nudity
* Exude a cheerful, lighthearted persona
* Act loveably naughty.
That has been the case in the previous Brass films I have watched and reviewed and Frivolous Lola is no exception. Rumor has it that the inscrutable producer of erotica met the vivacious young actress, Anna Ammirati while examining her body. The body of her car that is, after being involved in a traffic accident with her. It doesn't matter whose fault it was, the outcome was inevitable - Anna gallivanting around with little or no clothing in his next movie. Anna is reputed to have entreated the enigmatic director to feature her in his next movie and a enchanting match was born.
The Plot
Lola is a carefree lass in an unnamed village in Italy of some notoriety and gossip. Her mother who grew up there, left years before but returned with a handsome paramour, Andr'e and a vibrant sexually precocious teen daughter, Lola.
Lola is a virgin a condition she dislikes. She is engaged to the son of the village baker, Masetto, whom she wants to deflower her. Masetto would like to wait for their wedding night and this frustrates Lola.
A sub plot of the movie is Lola's relationship with her alleged father, Andr'e. They both find each other and find each other attractive.
The Story
The story revolves around Lola's efforts to get Masetto to make love with her and thus take her virginity. She tries various tricks, including making him jealous by coming on with other men. There was even a scene in a tavern where she is jitterbugging with three soldiers, sans her panties, with flashes of her genital folds and pubis.
Lola's alleged father Andr'e fascinates her. He is somewhat of a leach with prurient instincts and she is drawn to and fanaticizes about him. She makes a couple unsuccessful attempts to seduce him.
In the end Lola does trick Masetto into deflowering her - her term and at their wedding the next day a scene takes place between Lola and Andr'e where you are left wondering, no believing that they also have sex.
In hindsight it may be a take on that old song of the fifties, "Whatever Lola wants, Lola gets."
Conclusion
Lola is indeed frivolous and afew other adjectives ranging from adorable to bratty. Her self-centered thoughtless behavior is nothing short of tawdry. If there are women that behave so flippant, I wouldn't want to be engaged to them. Yet, as a viewer there is something winsome about her frolicsome, lighthearted, even compelling behavior.
As with other Brass movies I have viewed a typical theme permeates Frivolous Lola. Nothing is shameful to her. She with the overactive libido was born to enjoy life and she resents anyone that wants to rein her in, while her man is supposed to go along with her indiscretions
Frivolous Lola is an exercise in exhibitionism. The movie seems to be a memorial to Lola's or is it Anna Amirati's shapely figure with voyeuristic peeks at her genitalia. The story seems incidental, it is merely a vehicle to attain the desired effect.
I do not mean to sound like this is bad. Contrary, it is good. I found the movie to be funny entertaining and stimulating - one of his best and one of the better erotica movies available.
The lovely Anna Amirati was uniformly naughty and loveable. Her body was adorable and her acting endearing. Supporting actors, Packtrick Mower and Mario Parodi did well too.
The film was shot in what appeared to be the Italian countryside. The sets and costumes were colorful and the cinematography was first rate. Rating 4.6 stars
Save your money.......2006-11-10
Soft core porn masquerading as art, I didn't even make it through the first half hour of this film. Lola's cute, but it's still not worth the effort.

When the Western slipped into theatrical oblivion in the late 1970s, many of the best examples of the genre began appearing as made-for-television films. After the success of The Sacketts, from the Louis L'Amour novel, producers quickly reunited stars Tom Selleck and Sam Elliott in another fine adaptation of a L'Amour book, The Shadow Riders. As brothers Mac and Dal Traven, sporting blue and gray uniforms, respectively, they wind their way home at the close of the Civil War to discover a band of confederate rebels have ravaged their town and kidnapped their sisters and brother and Dal's feisty sweetheart (Katharine Ross). With the help of their outlaw uncle (Western stalwart Ben Johnson), whom they must break out of prison, they track the guerrillas to the Gulf Coast and down into Mexico for a final, fatal showdown. Veteran director Andrew McLaglen sets this TV movie on a loping pace and a jovial tone, defined largely by Selleck's easygoing performance and the jocular comic relief of rascally Johnson. Elliott provides the intensity, at times positively ferocious under his heavy brows and burning, sunken eyes. The mood is occasionally too comic, but McLaglen delivers the goods in a series of gritty action sequences, proving that old Western directors don't die, they just drift on over to the small screen. Western icons R.G. Armstrong and Harry Carey Jr. and 1950s leading lady Jane Greer also appear in key roles. --Sean Axmaker
Customer Reviews:
1865 The Civil War is Over..or is it?.......2007-02-09
This movie was made in 1982 and based on Louis L'Amour's novel by the same name.It is now 25 years later and still excellent entertainment. This western is done much like those great ones we loved so much starring John Wayne. It has a good, fast moving storyline with a teriffic cast portraying strong characters. It is a straight forward saga ,stays focused and the viewer has only one thing to do---just sit back and enjoy it. Where this western is quite different is that it takes place at the very end of the Civil War when soldiers are returning home. This was a particularly difficult time because circumstances often set brother against brother, and relative against relative. You can't get more personal than this, where one brother wears the Gray and the other the Blue as they get together to make things right after others try to carry out revenge after the war.
Too bad this movie doesn't really follow the book - sad!!!.......2007-01-20
Howdy,
After I read the book "The Shadow Riders" from Louis L'Amour I had to have this movie.
But what a disappointment!
Only about 30% of the movie content follows the book.
I will never understand how these movie makers destroy good stories.
I love watching western movies and I collect them (have abt. 100 now).
In this movie most of the characters act like they are having fun with
everything. Not once did I see the real concern about those kidnapped
people. The whole thing just looks to clean and like a Sunday picnic.
Why the hell did they have to bust out Happy Jack Traven (Black Jack) of
jail? Instead of adding dubios action scenes, they should have just stuck
with the book and we would be able to see a 5 star movie. Too bad!!!
I gave two stars, because I love Ben Johnson and Tom Selleck.
Wil
A great movie.......2006-08-31
This is an excellent western film. You should consider watching it for Ben Johnson's role, alone. Mr. Johnson is a great western film actor, and his role as "Uncle Jack" is superb. If you enjoy western genre, I suggest you consider adding this film to your collection. The team of Tom Selleck, Sam Elliott, and Jeff Osterhage is an excellent mix. I hope Hollywood will take advantage of this talented team and put these guys together again soon. Buy the DVD; you won't be disappointed.
Modern Westerns.......2006-05-23
The day of John Wayne, James Stewart, Gregory Peck, Henry Fonda, and the rest is gone. They made Westerns when there were still people alive who knew what the old west was really like and gave them pointers. When Tom Selleck and Sam Elliot made a few Westerns several years ago, they may not be quite up to the standards of classics like the "Magnificent Seven", "High Noon", and "Hondo" but I personally think they are excellent and a far cry better than any other Westerns made in the last 20 years. The cast even includes a few old timers from the classic Westerns like Ben Johnson and Harry Carey Jr. which is a real treat since they have still got what it takes to create a great character. With the upcoming release of "The Sacketts" you have all the more reason to view it and this as they go together like a set. I recommend purchasing them both and "The Last Stand at Saber River", "Crossfire Trail", and "Conagher". All excellent modern Westerns with Tom Selleck and/or Sam Elliot.
Above average shoot-em-up!.......2005-10-14
While away fighting the Civil War (Tom Sellick for the Union and Sam Elliot for the Confederacy), Sam's wife (Catherine Ross) and family are kidnapped by Confederate Raiders intent on selling them in Mexico to finance their ongoing war. Tom & Sam are reunited and off to the rescue! Good, above average western with some funny scenes, some drama, and lots of good old fashioned shooting the bad guys!

one of the worst movies made.......2007-04-09
This movie sucks. Talentless gibberish and stereotypical garbage. I really don't see how anyone rational could say this movie is of any value. Its boring, its stupid, it wasn't funny at all. I'll probably get a drinking problem now trying to forget that I ever had to watch this trash.
Don't buy it, don't rent it, don't even think about this movie. Its bad! I would give it a -5 if I could. This should be put in the same place as Arsenio Hall, FORGOTTEN!
Death of a Dynasty.......2007-01-21
I thought this movie was hilarious, and was not expensive at all.
FANTASTIC!!!.......2006-02-08
When I first saw this movie, I thought it was funny as H$ll! It now stays in heavy rotation at my house. Anyone that I know who hasn't seen it, I pass the word on... From start to finish, EXCELLENT. If you do not have a sense of humor, do not buy this movie. This was definitely a good investment.
DEATH OF A MOVIE!!!.......2006-01-29
This is by far the worst movie I've ever seen. Don't waste your time buying it. They have reject actors playing the parts of Dame Dash and Jay-Z (who do terrible jobs)!! Movie had no point to it.. Simply terrible.
Very well done...........2005-09-15
This movie was so funny!!! Anybody who watches it will love it!! Dash's directorial debut was wonderful!!! Its very ironic, the things that are happening now, and what happened in the movie, makes you wonder...

This movie is both funny and scary! When dead bodies start to pile up in some of the hottest clubs in town, a group of rappers and their girls decide to hunt him down. Soon they discover that the killer is a clown! It's a coll Indie film. Get it if you like Indie films or are just in the moodd for a funny scary movie.
can't think of a catchy title here.......2003-04-13
lets get one thing straight right away here. this is definitely not a suspense or a scary film. apparently its not intended to be either. pretty much one big rap video. just all about music for the most part. only check out if your a huge rap fan. otherwise you won't know what your getting into. ...
Urban Delight.......2003-01-02
Raging Nation Films has come out with movie #3, and each one just gets better and better! This is a movie full of laughs and suspense that will make you sit up on the edge of your seat until the very end. Don't watch this flick thinking it's going to be "Citizen Kane" or "Casablanca", classics to be sure, but rather dry and stuffy films full of people filling their stereotyped gender and race roles. "Urban Massacre" is one of the best of a new genre, a genre of movies about and in the middle of the hip-hop culture. Grab on to this new wave while you still can, because soon this film will be a "classic" in its own right!
Straight BLAZE!.......2003-01-02
Hey yall. Just kick back, press play and light up. This joint will have you rolling on the floor in minutes. Too much to single out any one particular scene but the cop dude is the funniest guy since Jim Carey and had us screaming. Other pluses was the music and sex scene. Out.

Seductive, Eternal Powers of War to Settle Differences.......2007-06-27
The Century of Warfare, a seven-DVD set of The History Channel, is a sweeping account of warfare dating back to 1896 C.E. Despite all its sophistication, humanity remains in the grip of war. To its credit, The History Channel does not reduce war to a pathology that could one day be totally eradicated. The History Channel gives a good overview of key events in the different wars that were waged mainly in the twenty century C.E., the most bloody of all. The main downside of this series lies in its generality. Whoever looks for a more in-depth coverage of these wars, will have to look elsewhere. For example, The First World War - The Complete Series (a Major Channel Four series) and The World at War give viewers a thorough overview of WWI and WWII, respectively.
If it weren't for the British ..........2006-06-13
I just recently purchased this DVD set and I am, for the most part, happy with it. I also own the Victory at Sea and The World at War DVD sets and this is a good addition to my collection. V at S and W at W deal only with WW II, so the value of C of W is it's dealing with other 20th century conflicts.
If you are considering buying this collection, please understand that this is a British production (with a British narrator) and has a decidedly British point of view. This should not keep you from purchasing Century of Warfare.
The 20th century is often refered to as the "American Century" for good reason, but you may not get that feeling or understanding from this DVD collection. After watching this, you may get the idea that Great Britain is still a super power as it was at the dawn of the 20th century. That's OK, the videos in this collection are excellent and, even in it's treatment of WW II, there are videos that I have not seen in V at S or W at W.
As for the narration, it has been criticized in other reviews as dull and monotonous. Well, as I said, the narrator is British and he does keep that famous "stiff upper lip," but the narration is insightful and well done.
The Century of Warfare goes beyond just the military aspect of the century and delves into the political, economic, and social events of the century. Yes, Great Britain was a super power at the beginning of the 20th century and the wars she fought took its toll on this nation in more than the loss of life. Perhaps a lesson that should not be lost on the United States today.
college level history lessons.......2005-12-19
This is real history given at the freshman college level. The main information is in the audio with the video as illustrations.
This is in stark contrast to the junior high school level journalism-propaganda type programs on PBS that pass for history lessons.
One shortcoming is that it does not give enough time to the espionage operations of the wars. Another is some minor errors. For example the Bismark is claimed to have been sunk. The captain claimed it was scuttled. Underwater photos of the wreck confirm this.
There are some errors. In the Vietnam portion they describe a general rotating out after two years (standard Army practice) as being relieved of his command. They fail to mention that the final collapse was caused by congress cutting off resupply of critical items such as ammunition. Tet 68 was a US victory. Almost of the Vietcong were killed when they fought to the death instead of retreating. After that the war was carried on by regular army troops of the north who wore civilian clothes. Another error was their inferring that the US public in general had turned against the war by 1972 or so. Nixon won the election by the second greatest landslide in presidential election history. He won over the other candidate who wanted to stop the war immediately and withdraw immediately.
A Well-rounded treatment of 20th Century conflicts........2004-02-20
The Century of Warfare is a somewhat inconsistent but generally satisfying production that mixes flashes of brilliance with equal doses of mediocrity.
The strength of this set lies in attention to detail, such as the strong opening episode which examines the political and social make-up of the world from the late 1800s up to the start of the First World War. Factors often overlooked by more conventional military history video productions are given their just due, including a refreshingly thorough examination of the Balkan tinderbox.
World War I is given very detailed treatment, particularly in lesser known theaters. For example, the episode entitled Battle Fleets and U-Boats takes the time to cover many secondary naval clashes, as opposed to the usual tunnel-vision emphasis on submarine warfare and the Battle of Jutland.
World War II is a weak spot, primarily because there are more comprehensive works available, in particular the masterful "World at War" series. However, given the overall scope of The Century of Warfare, these are relatively minor weaknesses.
The Korean Conflict is given more than a cursory look, another conspicuous plus for this production. Many minor conflicts which have been largely ignored (at least by Western historians) are also covered.
Production values are excellent, relying on historical footage with no attempt to edit or correct flaws. This insistence on authentic images imparts an almost tangible immediacy and power to the series.
The one serious weakness is in the narration. Robert Powell's droning, monotonous reading of the script is an excellent prescription for insomnia but does little to support what is often a powerful and gripping visual record.
Taken as a whole, the strengths of The Century of Warfare far outweigh its few weaknesses. This is a superior overview of 20th century armed conflicts, a legitimate bargain for students of military history or anyone wishing to see a major factor in this dynamic and too often tragic period of time.
A well done set with comprehensive coverage.......2003-12-02
This set more than makes up for the "Disaster" (Victory) At Sea collection recently released by the History Channel.
These discs are wonderfully mastered, with very few recreations ( and those are subtly done ) plus first rate production values: the sound quality is superb, the music plays quitely in the background and adds to the overall effect, rather than being a distraction. The narration is informative, and well paced. The narration comes out front and center in the 5.1 format, with the music providing stereo effects, and the dubbing of the sound effects is well done, and matches the pacing and content of the original silent film well. There is some minor surround info, but that is not a detriment. The discs break the years/events into well chosen blocks, and the net effect is that a great deal of information is presented, without being dull or overbearing. Some of the early moving footage is particularly rare and has been well cleaned up in these transfers. The narrative perspective tends to be British, talking about the "war of 1914-1918" rather than "World War One" as Americans are used to, but the overall effect is very competent and correct. While admitedly no historian, I didn't notice any real gaffs in either facts or the conclusions as presented.
The quality of the transfers is EXCELLENT, holding up very well even on a big screen ( 47" ) in progressive scan. The image is sharp, and well lit. The intro's are a bit repetitous, but at least they don't everwhelm you in blasting modern stereo and then leave the audio to fade out to inteligibility when you get into the program, and each of the 4 major segements on each disc has a "Play all" button so you don't have to endlessly work the remote or the menus.
All in all, a program which displays everything you've come to expect from the History Channel, and provides a level of enjoyment and entertainment you might wish were found on more such DVD sets.
Well worth the cost, and a bargain if you shop around !
