After seven years of protecting the innocent, demon fighting and generally ridding the world of evil, the Halliwell sisters have begun a search for a different destiny - living normal lives free of fighting demons. As "The Charmed Ones," the most powerful good witches to ever exist, the sisters faked their own deaths last year and created new identities, altering their appearances to the outside world, but appearing as themselves to those closest to them. Now, they must reconcile with their own guilt about not fighting the supernatural evil that continues in the world. Now entering its eighth season, Charmed explores the relationship between three siblings, who after discovering that they possess magical powers, are reluctantly thrown into a world of supernatural evils. Phoebe, Paige and Piper must keep their identity as "the Charmed Ones" secret from the world, with only themselves to rely upon. Piper deals with trying to balance raising her two young sons with Leo and run P3, Phoebe takes over as the advice columnist at the Bay Mirror and meets the man she envisions herself marrying. Paige, meanwhile, cannot ignore the whitelighter in her, answers the call of a young witch named Billie, whose raw talents and sassy attitude will become a tremendous asset in the fight against evil. In working with Billie to hone her skills and teach her the importance of what they do, the sisters realize how much they miss magic and how they can have normal lives and still fight evil. As the three most powerful good witches magic has to offer, the Halliwell sisters continue to wage war against evil as they seek to strengthen their sisterly bond and get closer to fulfilling their destiny.

Charmed will be forever missed........2007-09-13
This isn't the best season of the series. With that said it did have its great moments and I feel if you are a fan of the show it does finish off the collection. The final 2 episodes are probably 2 of the best episodes of the series. I will miss this show but I am glad that they did get to end it right with closure and a sense of things to come.
Charmed to the end.......2007-09-13
I received my copy of season 8 today, and have to say I was very dissapointed with whom ever put this together. They should have left the theme song for which it was highly a point of the show, that is what the Halliwell sisters were looking for, I am human and, I need to be loved just like everybody else. To put in a new theme as the final season made no sense at all. Also, it is to bad Shannen Dohery (Prudence) could not have come back to help wrap up things with her sisters, this would have given all of us avid, loyal fans who have watched the show since day one a sense of real closure, this would have made a little more sense then bringing on a total new character. I am not saying the character of Bille was not good, for in the end that is how the sisters were able to lead normal lives and live happily ever after. I, too wish the show would have gone on, but all good things must come to an end. They did a fine job, and went out still on top, which is the way to go. My only hope is one day we can have a Charmed family reunion show, that would be great for the fans. In magic anything is possible right? Again, buyers should have been warned the theme song they were used to hearing would no longer be there. As always as very good show, and series, one that will be missed by all Charmed fans all around the globe. A charmed one forever.
What the H&$&) did these people think they were doing?.......2007-09-13
Don't get me wrong, the dvd's are excellent, great interviews, great bonus features........just has the WRONG THEME SONG.....what do they think they're doing messing with the wonderful How Soon Is Now, by Love Spit Love?
It was my favorite theme song....it's what told me my favorite show is starting....as if Charmed really is being shown on my tv for the first time....that it's not just a dvd. And hearing that song, chopped up though it was....it is actually a H&(( of a lot better as the show's theme song than the song they chose for the frickin' dvd edition !!
I just wish they would have told fans ahead of time about this change so we can put our feedback in, and know we're buying a new theme song so we can adjust ahead of time for crying out loud.
This is my first view, and yes I will watch the show, but because I hate skipping the music, I just might put up with it.....I will talk about the the bonusses and so forth in another post.
Unnecessary Season... *Spoilers*.......2007-09-12
I have been a big fan of "Charmed" for years. I especially loved the first four seasons. However, I felt the show went downhill a bit, particularly after season six. Season seven was a decent season, especially with Charisma Carpenter guest-starring. But season eight?? Completely unnecessary!
Season eight introduces Billie Jenkins, a blonde, young witch who the Charmed Ones take under their wing. I liked Billie a bit but when her sister, Christy was introduced, my hatred for both of them soared. Why would some long-lost sister be able to persuade Billie to kill the Charmed Ones? Unless Billie is some gullable twit with no mind of her own, which she was.
Anyway, season eight had no real direction except bringing Leo back after defeating the Ultimate Power (Brian Krause was cut for financial reasons). That's another thing. Are we, the audience, really supposed to believe some new witch (Billie) is the Ultimate Power? Highly unlikely.
The series finale was the only saving grace. It felt rushed but was still 'good.' Actually, I only liked the ending. Billie crying was not something I wanted to see.
Overall, a useless season of "Charmed." The only reason I gave it two stars was because of the series finale. Unless you're a die-hard fan who wants to complete his/her collection, I'd skip this final chapter of the Power of Three.
New Season, Different Set.......2007-09-11
My season set just arrived today. It was interesting. They did in fact change the theme song. However, there are special features in this addition. It's weird because I actually like the new theme better.

Description
The epic graphic novel by Frank Miller (Sin City) assaults the screen with the blood, thunder and awe of its ferocious visual style faithfully recreated in an intense blend of live-action and CGI animation. Retelling the ancient Battle of Thermopylae, it depicts the titanic clash in which King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) and 300 Spartans fought to the death against Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro) and his massive Persian army. Experience history at swordpoint. And moviemaking with a cutting edge.
Customer Reviews:
The movie 300.......2007-09-13
Stirring epic which brings to gut-level view the heroic resistance
of 300 Spartans against the Persian hordes, led by colorful Xerxes
himself. The comraderie, discipline, fighting skills, etc. exhibited
are truly wonderful; so too is the background story: the festival
days preventing the sending of the entire Spartan army; the pain
of Leonidas' wife as she acknowledges her soon-to-be widowhood.
The special effects too are extraordinary and must be seen to
be believed. I could go on. Just watch the movie!!
Another misrepresentation of history?.......2007-09-13
I really thought I would like this but sadly did not.If it was not a film about something that suppose to of happened it might of been better, say a film of fantasy? No it was still flat.No character development,I did not have any feeling toward anyone in the film.Truth turned into myth, yes.I have to disagree with another reviewer,in that I liked Braveheart a lot better. At least it brought out my emotions more. This would make a good video game, that is about it.Maybe I just wasn"t in the right mood at the time?Heck-I liked King Arthur with Clive Owen better than this. This is only my opinion.
Good Story, Horrible Visuals.......2007-09-11
"300" tells the amazing story of how an informal Spartan army of only 300 men held off the massive Persian military force until they were betrayed and decimated by King Xerxes. The story was incredible, and told very well. Several of the battle sequences really whet the appetite of the armchair war tactical strategist. But the flat, fake, chrome-like colors of the film (which make this almost look like a comic book), really take away from the experience. The slow-motion photography also detracts from the credibility of the film - I can only guess that this technique was used to simulate a 3D effect, which it accomplished to a certain degree, but not enough to make this movie visually appealing. Also, the "look" they chose for King Xerxes was awful! From the research I've done on this individual, I don't believe the costume to be historical - perhaps this was just another of the filmmaker's surreal visuals for shock value?
300 Movie.......2007-09-10
Amazing fight scenes, artistically filmed. Action scenes are unparalleled...far superior to Lord of the Rings battles.
Felt like 300 Minutes.......2007-09-10
First of all, I tried to keep an open mind about this movie, despite the fact I don't care for these old fashion sort of battles, the spears, all the blood. Maybe that's it, the movies show too much blood, getting stabbed, etc. I was a little surprised this wasn't too bad compared to something like Braveheart (in terms of blood and how gory it is; but then again, it's been awhile since I saw Braveheart, so maybe I'm wrong).
But, where is the story? Where is the character development? I understand, fight to no longer be slaves, but still, there must be more. And who are these people? A queen, a king, some god, and a lot of people who fight. There was so little character development. I finally knew who one person was just because he's the one with some cloth wrapped around his eye.
And the blood/CGI, ugh. Not good. Too fake and pointless. Maybe that's why it seemed easier to sit through this than Braveheart.
And the battles? I've seen commercials last longer than that. Now I am no big action sort of guy in films, but it's nice at times, and this was just flat out horrible.
The ending was short too. I like why he did what he did (won't say much, don't want to spoil it), but that was about it.
And this nude sex bit. It really isn't that bad. Personally, I don't quite understand why this country is so touchy about sex and nudity, as if it's bad to make love to your spouse, but it's OKAY to stab someone through their heart, and decapitate them. "I know honey, you prefer us to beat each other up and have our own blood bath, and I know it's worse to ask this, but can we have sex? I know it's worse! It's horrible, so shameful! but please?" 'rolls eyes' But that's beside the point.
The point here, the movie was done poorly.
The story wasn't strong enough, you didn't know the people too well (guess that's no longer important in films), the blood/CGI was weak, battle scenes ended so quickly. Reminded me of the movie Doom. Through all those battles, and no blood stains on the warriors, yeah that makes sense. I go to work, fairly clean place, and yet I come home from the factory with dust, yet all these people fight and no blood.
Oh well, that's not important, right? Who cares. just sit down and watch some movie that shows breasts, sex, violence and blood.
I was expecting more than what I got here. Grab the 'History Channel' special on the 300. I'm sure it's better than this.

Pathetic.......2007-09-10
No matter how much money, special effects, or pretty women they can throw at this pathetic venture, it's all worthless if there is no TALENT. This movie is a joke, trying to cash on the "Lord of the Rings" type of visual effects and story line. Unfortunately, it doesn't even come close.
300 Full Screen DVD.......2007-09-08
A great action film - could have had a little more love interest involved to balance it out. But, a must see for anyone who loves sword fighting/action movies. I liked the scene in particular where they battle the man giant. Great stuff.
Ordered wide screen, got full screen.......2007-09-08
I ordered 300 widescreen edition. I didn't realize they sent me full screen until I started to watch the movie. By then it's too late, I already opened it. I really wanted to see the movie as soon as it arrived so I probably would've opened it anyway. Sure wish I would have got what I ordered. No more online movie shopping for me, i'll go to the store so I get what I want.
Captivating Dramatization.......2007-09-06
As the title for this review suggests, this movie is high on hype. However that makes it far from being a poor cinematic piece. The Spartans have been fabled as some of the best strategic and well trained soldiers in all of Greek history.
To bottom-line it, this really brings you into their way of life. They live to die essentially, you will see how brutal Spartans are and how even against enormous odds their life-training is really what helps them fight against a massive force of Persians.
Anyways should you get this movie?
- If you like to watch dramatized historic events captured on screen. Then Yes.
- If you don't like mild to moderate gore. Then no.
- If you're expecting something that will just blow you away with superb acting, deep characters and a thick and juicy plot. Look else-where.
In short, this is a very energetic revival of the fabled Spartans with a lot of help from 21st century technology.
Pure Testosterone Action.......2007-09-04
Have you ever watched a movie with an epic battle and said to yourself, "wow that was great I wish it were abit longer though." ? I always thought that with the battles in Return of the King and Gladiator. This movie is that question answered and then some. There are so many just pure raw sword fighting, spear slashing scene in this it's almost pornographic the violence. Do not sit down to this movie thinking you will get a history lesson about the intricacies about Spartan culture.
300 is very stylized, very graphic, very slick in it's presentation. I almost gave it 4 stars because of it being so stylized but man this movie delivers enough action for a few years. You can almost turn the audio off and turn up a Tool album to this thing and it would be just as much fun. If you have not seen this movie get ready for a wild ride. Cheers.

The Secret: Movie synopsis and opinion.......2007-09-14
The Secret (Extended Edition)
The Power of Your Subconscious Mind
Basically it breaks down like this "Like attracts Like". You attract to you what you put out type thing. This movie tries to explain how to use this on a conscious level for achieving what you want in your life instead of attracting what you don't. I love this movie, I love the idea behind this movie. I find it very empowering.
Yes, the movie does emphasize a bit on wealth and gain, however it also speaks of using it (the secret) in Health and Relationships, how it can apply to anything and anyone. I love that idea, maybe the people just need a little faith in something other than themselves. I think of this movie as a gift for the masses, just think it we could all get ourselves together long enough to do something on a deeper level. Also check out "The Power of the Subconscious Mind by John Murphy", it's been around since the 60's. Good luck and keep an open mind.
It is not my secret........2007-09-14
I do not hate this movie as some do. It simply does not direct me to the things I seek. It is a movie about being successful. As such, it succeeds.
Yet, having said that, I nevertheless think it is a little misleading. Is there really a secret to getting things? Perhaps there is. But, whatever the secret is, it is much more complicated than setting intentions. And for those who live in poverty, positive thinking is often a foreign language.
If you are born into a rich family, one which values financial success, and you are taught to succeed; then you will probably be successful. Being positive will come easily to you. If on the other hand, you are born into a poor family, one which struggles to survive, and you are taught to struggle; then you will probably not be successful. Being negative will come easily for you. This is not a secret. It is harsh, but true I think.
Of course, there are exceptions. There are those who succeed despite all obstacles of birth and circumstance. And it is to those many individuals desiring to be exceptions that movies such as "The Secret" aim.
And there's nothing wrong with being successful. There was a comedian once who said, more or less, "I've been rich, and I've been poor, and believe you me rich is better." I think it was Joe E. Brown who said that, and I agree with him. While I have never been rich, I have been poor. And I did not like it. Making ends meet took all my time. I was too tired to meditate, too tired to read nourishing books, and too tired to spend time with those I loved. But I was not too tired to worry.
Nor is there anything wrong with being positive, or setting intentions, or manifesting what you think you want. This is much better than being negative, not setting intentions, and manifesting what you think you do not want. The former typically results in a better life.
But beyond having enough money to live well by my own standards, which does not include a fancy car or a huge house, I do not aspire to greater riches. My mind, or at least my mind as I know it, simply cannot take me to the place I seek. I seek a place of inner tranquility. I cannot manifest this place through positive thinking. Nor can I manifest it through setting intentions.
But for those who live one step above poverty as they send children to college, pay mortgages, and work hard; this may be a good movie for them. Life can be hard, and people need hope. And if movies such as this can give hope, then that is a good thing. I truly hope this movie inspires and uplifts all who see it. But I also hope that all who see it understand that there is more than this to life.
You know, though, come to think of it, a chauffeur would be nice, and maybe a maid or two, and a cook. Then I would need a mansion. And I suppose I would need a sailing yacht to get away from all my servants. And I'd need a captain because I don't know how to sail. I suppose I would have to have a few pretty girls in bikinis to lounge on the deck, like in the movies. But I'm married. So maybe I should get a dog instead. This being rich business is harder than it looks!
Thank you, John C. Conley, author of "Letters to My Friends: A No Guarantees Guide to Awakening."
Defending The Secret.......2007-09-14
To appreciate The Secret, you have to have an open mind to watch it. If you are "the glass is half empty" kind of person, you will only point out the flaws in this movie, because that is what you do in life. Sure you can search for the meanings and blessings, but you don't think you can change the situation. There IS evidence of mind-over-matter, but if you aren't open to the concept, you will think it's a hoax. The movie doesn't say you don't have to work for something, they say you DO have to take action, you can't just visualize it. It makes sense that if you want out of debt, you should focus on words such as financial freedom versus debt-free. The latter still focuses on debt. I watched the movie two weekends ago and I have been practicing positive images and the feelings associated with having financial freedom, etc. (even driving the car). Guess what - I have used my credit card very little and paid off $7,000 of debt last week and have another $6,000 planned to pay off next week. Oh, I also got a check in the mail today and have received 3 unexpected business referrals in the past 10 days. After struggling with my credit card debt since college (15 years),this movie has helped me change my thinking and I believe I will be out of that debt (and maybe have my car paid off)by the end of the year. Many people don't want to take responsibility for their situation, so instead blame others. That way, you don't have to try and change it because "it's out of your control".
By the way, sickness CAN be healed, but like the movie says, you can't change others, only yourself.

Hollywood's legendary "woman's director," George Cukor (The Women, The Philadelphia Story), transformed Audrey Hepburn into street-urchin-turned-proper-lady Eliza Doolittle in this film version of the Lerner and Loewe musical. Based on George Bernard Shaw's play Pygmalion, My Fair Lady stars Rex Harrison as linguist Henry Higgins (Harrison also played the role, opposite Julie Andrews, on stage), who draws Eliza into a social experiment that works almost too well. The letterbox edition of this film on video certainly pays tribute to the pageantry of Cukor's set, but it also underscores a certain visual stiffness that can slow viewer enthusiasm just a tad. But it's really star wattage that keeps this film exciting, that and such great songs as "On the Street Where You Live" and "I Could Have Danced All Night." Actor Jeremy Brett, who gained a huge following later in life portraying Sherlock Holmes, is quite electric as Eliza's determined suitor. --Tom Keogh
Customer Reviews:
"Garn!".......2007-09-06
Such a delightful film! This is probably one of Audrey's best performance! It's just so disappointing that she wasn't even nominated for the Oscar! Huh! I feel bad for her!
Oh, So Loverly!.......2007-09-03
I have always loved musicals, growing up watching them all the time, but by far My Fair Lady was the best I have ever watched. I never tire of watching Audrey Hepburn transform from a common flower girl to a lady. Though I was dissappointed that Audrey's voice wasn't used in the songs, there are the original songs with Audrey's voice in the extra features. If you love musicals, this is a must-see!
My Favorite.......2007-08-03
This is my favorite movie ever. They did a good job with it two. The extra stuff stinks so buy it for the movie.
Probably the best movie of all time........2007-08-01
Excellent cast and wonderful music make this superb movie one of the best of all time. The Oh so true play based on the English social class distinction, as it used to be, and scenes and characters in Covent Garden just add richness to the whole story.
Featuring the characters from the Covent Garden fruit and vegetable market, of former times, together with the opera goers from the Covent Garden Opera House adds highlight to the cultural extreams that existed, "shoulder to shoulder" for so long.
The truly beautiful Audry Hepburn, Rex Harrison, Stanley Holloway, Wilfred Hyde-White, Gladys Cooper and company, give us the richness and romanticism of a bygone era.......just wonderful.
A classic!.......2007-07-31
This movie is sure to be a favorite for anyone who loves Audrey Hepburn or who enjoys musicals. It is very entertaining!

Ocean's Eleven improves on 1960's Rat Pack original with supernova casting, a slickly updated plot, and Steven Soderbergh's graceful touch behind the camera. Soderbergh reportedly relished the opportunity "to make a movie that has no desire except to give pleasure from beginning to end," and he succeeds on those terms, blessed by the casting of George Clooney as Danny Ocean, the title role originated by Frank Sinatra. Fresh out of jail, Ocean masterminds a plot to steal $163 million from the seemingly impervious vault of Las Vegas's Bellagio casino, not just for the money but to win his ex-wife (Julia Roberts) back from the casino's ruthless owner (Andy Garcia). Soderbergh doesn't scrimp on the caper's comically intricate strategy, but he finds greater joy in assembling a stellar team (including Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, and Carl Reiner) and indulging their strengths as actors. The result is a film that's as smooth as a silk suit and just as stylish. --Jeff Shannon
Customer Reviews:
The best out of the trilogy.......2007-08-31
*Spoilers*
Other than being a parade of Hollywood's hunkiest. Ocean Eleven has a good, solid story. Danny Ocean fresh out of the joint can't take being on the straight and narrow, plus he wants his wife back. Lucky for him and his gang-she just so happens to be dating a powerfully rich casino owner. Instead of taking his anger and frustration out of her, he figures the way to win her back is to rob her boyfriend and prove to her that the casino owner would choose his money over her. Is this even a question? We're not talking about $20. Daniel was trying to steal 163 million dollars. Not to betray my sex, but no woman is worth that amount of money. And it's an unfair question because Daniel would most likely choose the money too. Because by his own question, he could have given it back and simply taken Tess. But that minor fact seems to escape Tess and she goes running back to her hubby. Other than, this is a slick sort of hustle from a team that should be in the circus. Overall: Highly recommended.
Once upon a time..................2007-08-14
Once Upon A Thyme, children, there was a movie called "Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring." It was a movie based on a 50 year-old book of the same name, which had 2 sequels. Those 2 books were also made into movies, and those 3 movies were very very very good, and all was right with the world.
THEN ... The Powers That Bee decided that because those 3 movies were so very good (and so very profitable) then ALL successful movies must now come in threes: and lo and behold we had 3 XMens, 3 Spidermans, 3 Austin Powers, 3 Pirates, and of course 3 Oceans. Never mind the fact that the "Rings" movies came in a trilogy because the original novels came that way. None of these sequels had any reason for being, other than the first movie made a lot of money. And in every single case, the third movie was the worst of the bunch, the inspiration and steam that made the first movie a success long, long gone.
This is an olde, olde story children. Witness 4 Jaws, 3 Rambos, 6 Rockys, 742 Bonds, 3 (and counting) Indiana Jones, ad infinitum. We can even go back 70 years to 6 Thin Mans, the last 3 of which weren't so great. But no matter. Don't expect H'wood to learn from the dearth of joy in their sequels, because we keep lapping them up.
Nevertheless, there is always the FIRST of all of these movies to return to, and that is what we must do when all is said and spent. Go back to the original (well, the remake of the original, anyway) and remember a time not so long ago when charisma had a name, and its name was "Ocean's Eleven." This is the only movie they needed to make.
A Throwback Worth Keeping.......2007-08-08
OCEAN'S ELEVEN is one movie among many that is symptomatic of a Hollywood problem: that is, a lack of new ideas. This is a remake, somewhat lost perhaps, among all the other remakes, sequels, and so on, that have marred the creative braintrust of Tinseltown. But OCEAN'S ELEVEN is fun, fun, fun--and Hollywood is short on that, too, these days.
There's another thing that makes this movie both good and rare: an ensemble cast. Really, friends and neighbors, how often do you get this caliber of a cast in a modern movie: Julia Roberts, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, Carl Reiner, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Andy Garcia, and yes, Bernie Mac? Good gravey, I haven't seen the likes since THE LONGEST DAY. And they all play their parts unselfishly (except, perhaps, for Clooney--but he's the star).
Oh, yeah. It's all about a heist, a team of eleven strangely likeable criminals who seek to knock off Vegas's three biggest casinos. Watching them work is a blast!
(This review has been posted by Marcus Damanda, author of the vampire book, "Teeth: A Horror Fantasy.")
no.......2007-07-20
I tried to watch this movie but after the first seconds of hearing Clooney's voice I got sleepy. My eyes blurred at the screen and everything got dark siewpfieys...oops sorry I am having a flashback to the moment and forgot how to type. I didn't see this movie and don't know if I ever will. So don't bother with my opinion. It is just one out of many.
Ocean's Eleven.......2007-07-20
Almost as funny as the original (starring the" Rat Pack") Enjoyed Don Cheadle (so out of character) and of course
seeing Elliot Gould and Carl Reiner again was a hoot.

Last Stand of the 300 is an interesting 90-minute documentary from the History Channel explaining the details of the ancient Spartans' showdown with the Persian army at the battle of Thermopylae. It's long been a fascinating subject, but it hit popular culture in a big way with the 2007 feature film 300, based on the graphic novel by Frank Miller. Last Stand of the 300 helps explain the background behind the battle as well as many of the details not covered in the movie, including how the Ionian Revolt and the famed battle of Marathon led to Themopylae, the naval front led by Thermistocles, and what happened afterward. Numerous scholars and authors (including the writers of Gates of Fire and Empires at War) explain the rigorous Spartan training, military strategy, the Oracle at Delphi, the Persian technological advantage, different kinds of weaponry and vessels (the Spartan hoplon, dory, and xiphos, and the trireme), and how one of Miller's famous lines came from Herodotus ("Then we shall have our battle in the shade"). The maps are extremely helpful for showing how the geography affected the battle (one detour would have cost the Persians an extra two years of travel time), but the reenactments look kind of simple compared to the extremely stylized feature film. --David Horiuchi
Description
The legendary battle of Thermopylae is still acknowledged today for its brilliant military maneuvers and the well-trained and fearless soldiers who fought to the death. THE HISTORY CHANNEL® presents a detailed account of this legendary battle, examining the events leading up to the conflict, the tactical expertise that allowed the outnumbered Greeks to stall their mighty foes, and the bloody encounter itself. Find out how an army of a few hundred men overcame impossible odds and witness the conflict that altered the course of Western civilization.
Customer Reviews:
The History Channel Presents Last Stand of the 300 - The Legendary Battle at Thermopylae.......2007-09-09
Excellent resource for teachers and amateur historians - the real facts behind the theatrical release "300."
The acting is stiff and the narration is stilted, but it is a fascinating bit of history and a must-have companion to the film.
The History Channel Presents Last Stand of the 300 - The Legendary Battle at Thermopylae.......2007-09-06
Outstanding reference DVD and a great addition to any library about Ancient Warfare, weapons and tactics.
Too commercially oriented.......2007-08-27
Not completely worthless, it has more information that one would expect from a purely commercial and teenage oriented product. The few commentators give their views in typically bombastic words, but focus too much on the fighting itself. No time is dedicated too explain the historical context, the societies involved in this clash of civilizations. What was at stake? What were the choices? What were their cultures like? A lot is missing, the most important. They convey the importance of these 3 consecutive battles (Thermopylae, Salamis and Platea) but don't explain why they were so.
Still, if this if for your kids, it might still be worth watching as its better than nothing; I believe there's another documentary out there about the same and even worse.
Another lack was the real scenery and, instead, having to imagine or recreate the scenes with video-gaming technology; even the maps had a computer design touch. Awful presentation. One real view of today's landscape where the battle was fought would have been much appreciated. The History Channel should be history. Read a book.
300 spartans, history, true story.......2007-08-24
well done, an excellent look into the past at the greatest battle in the Western world.
Well Done Documentary.......2007-08-15
The History Channel did a great job in retelling the story of the 300. It brought in perspectives that you wont see in the screen version. The special effects are great. Its shows what leads up to and the aftermath of this historic battle and what it meant to us now. I would watch this before seeing the movie "300" because it will give you background and insight that will help you better understand the battle and the legend that surrounds it .

The challenges come fast and furious for the Halliwell sisters in Charmed: The Complete Seventh Season. Some of them are pretty exotic, too: a visit from Lady Godiva, who inspires a certain, unexpected freedom in witchy sisters Phoebe (Alyssa Milano), Piper (Holly Marie Combs), and Paige (Rose McGowan) while dodging the evil designs of a nasty land baron. Shakti and Shiva, the ultimate lovers of Hinduism, manage to occupy the bodies of Piper and still-evolving Whitelighter Leo (Brian Krause) at a very bad time: The consummation of their love will destroy the universe. An ex-demon turned professor at the Magic School falls under a spell that causes him to believe he's Robin Hood and that Phoebe is Maid Marian. And it goes on like that: an invisible demon posing as an imaginary friend to a child; a time-travel trip to 1899 (and the site of a tragic fire) that strands Phoebe; the arrival of Pandora's Box in the hands of a shape-shifting visitor from the Underworld. Things never quiet down for the Halliwells, and their lives are even more complicated by Zankou (Oded Fehr), who shows up in a running storyline about his effort to release the Shadow, the ultimate power, and steal the Book of Shadows, which is crucial to the sisters' witchcraft. Meanwhile, Leo must make a crucial choice in order to release Piper and Phoebe from their deaths at the hands of yet another demon: Should he save them or engage in magic that will ultimately rob him of his free will? An exciting season full of new changes and characters, transitions, children, and much else, Charmed: The Complete Seventh Season carries on this long-running television show's breathless pace and intriguing mix of the arcane and ordinary. --Tom Keogh
Description
The Power of Three continues to work in mysterious ways as the sisters adapt to the arrival of baby Chris - and the added responsibility of having two enchanted children underfoot. Could this be a divine signal for Piper and Leo to stop quibbling and start parenting? Meanwhile, Paige continues her quest for the perfect man (or even a couple of imperfect ones) while Phoebe desperately searches for the father of her future daughter. Given the pageant of witches, warlocks and sexy wardrobe gracing the manor in the coming year, finding time to juggle multiple romances while fighting the forces of darkness will become increasingly challenging.

The Bret Easton Ellis novel American Psycho, a dark, violent satire of the "me" culture of Ronald Reagan's 1980s, is certainly one of the most controversial books of the '90s, and that notoriety fueled its bestseller status. This smart, savvy adaptation by Mary Harron (I Shot Andy Warhol) may be able to ride the crest of the notoriety; prior to the film's release, Harron fought a ratings battle (ironically, for depictions of sex rather than violence), but at the time the director stated, "We're rescuing [the book] from its own bad reputation." Harron and co-screenwriter Guinevere Turner (Go Fish) overcome many of the objections of Ellis's novel by keeping the most extreme violence offscreen (sometimes just barely), suggesting the reign of terror of yuppie killer Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale) with splashes of blood and personal souvenirs. Bale is razor sharp as the blank corporate drone, a preening tiger in designer suits whose speaking voice is part salesman, part self-help guru, and completely artificial. Carrying himself with the poised confidence of a male model, he spends his days in a numbing world of status-symbol one-upmanship and soul-sapping small talk, but breaks out at night with smirking explosions of homicide, accomplished with the fastidious care of a hopeless obsessive. The film's approach to this mayhem is simultaneously shocking and discreet; even Bateman's outrageous naked charge with a chainsaw is most notable for the impossibly polished and gleaming instrument of death. Harron's film is a hilarious, cheerfully insidious hall of mirrors all pointed inward, slowly cracking as the portrait becomes increasingly grotesque and insane. --Sean Axmaker
Customer Reviews:
Naked Bloody Psycho.......2007-09-03
Christian Bale is a typical American Rich Snob in the 80s whose only focus is himself. He is the predecessor of the metro sexual, with 4 kinds of body cleanser, perfectly pressed business clothing and a male physique to die-for. He has everthing and begins to lose his mind.
The pinnacle of the movie is Christian Bale, absolutley naked as a jay-bird, muscles throbbing, covered in his victim's blood, wielding a chain-saw, screaming in some psycho-sexual rage as his victim gets away down a stair-well. He screams and throws the running chainsaw over the balcony to finish his victim off.
You don't know whether you are turned on or terrifed.
Everything begins to fall apart as his mind betrays him. By the end, he doesnt know if he really did these things or if it was his sick fantasy.
Another highlight is watching the intolerable character played by Jared Leto being butchered with an ax.
Probably a great movie for its time but definitely has some sick themes, but just seeing Bale naked is worth it. Batman buns....Yummy.
Christian Bale scared me..........2007-08-31
But I guess that was the point. Man, he really gives his all to a character! Love him! Always will!
BALE IS PSYCHO!!.......2007-08-31
this movie gave me the creeps. goes to show you can't judge a book by it's cover. bale is brilliant in this movie. he knows how to get into character, and he can only stay under control for so long. killing is his high. and it just shows you never really know someone.
Great film.......2007-08-27
Christian Bale is perfect for this role. He is genius in this. It couldn't have been better. I cant quite put a genre to this, its one of those 'multi-genre' type of movies, but it can appeal to so many tastes. Its kinda twisted and naughty but great at the same time. A must-see.
Great movie and good actors for the low budget.......2007-08-23
Some fans of the book complained about the film's lack of accuracy. I was quite satisfied with the movie and it made me want to read the book. For its time and budget, American Psycho is a well-crafted, cruel and dark comedy movie.
If one sees through the violent scenes, vanity and the empty search for eternal youth are very well portrayed in the movie.

Here's how critic Roger Ebert described the unique and lasting value of George Lucas's 1973 box-office hit, American Graffiti: "[It's] not only a great movie but a brilliant work of historical fiction; no sociological treatise could duplicate the movie's success in remembering exactly how it was to be alive at that cultural instant." The time to which Ebert and the film refers is the summer of 1962, and American Graffiti captures the look, feel, and sound of that era by chronicling one memorable night in the lives of several young Californians on the cusp of adulthood. (In essence, Lucas was making a semiautobiographical tribute to his own days as a hot-rod cruiser, and the film's phenomenal success paved the way for Star Wars.) The action is propelled by the music of Wolfman Jack's rock & roll radio show--a soundtrack of pop hits that would become as popular as the film itself. As Lucas develops several character subplots, American Graffiti becomes a flawless time capsule of meticulously re-created memory, as authentic as a documentary and vividly realized through innovative use of cinematography and sound. The once-in-a-lifetime ensemble cast members inhabit their roles so fully that they don't seem like actors at all, comprising a who's who of performers--some of whom went on to stellar careers--including Ron Howard, Richard Dreyfuss, Harrison Ford, Cindy Williams, Mackenzie Phillips, Charles Martin Smith, Candy Clark, and Paul Le Mat. A true American classic, the film ranks No. 77 on the American Film Institute's list of all-time greatest American movies. --Jeff Shannon

Customer Reviews:
When times were fun........2007-08-18
I was 8 years old when rock n roll first came on the scene and when young people ask me what it was like when I was a teenager, I tell them to watch the movie American Graffiti. It nails it right on the head. The street rods, cruisers, custom cars, the music, all bring back good memories. Sock hops, car races, going steady, all part of an era in time that will never be duplicated again. All of these things were captured in a fun but very capable and accurate way by the director, producers and and actors. Richard Dreyfuss, Cindy Williams, Ron Howard and the rest were great. What a cast of characters and what a time in history. I loved it and have watched this movie more times than I can count. I highly recommend it to anyone that grew up in that era and to the young who want to see how the "older" generation had fun and enjoyed life. It didn't take much to entertain me or my friends when i was a teen. Give me a car, a girl friend, friends and a few hundred cruises around the circuit on a Friday and Saturday night and there you have it. American Graffiti.
One of the BEST movies of ALL TIMES.......2007-08-08
One, great cast. Two, great music. Three, great story. A must for any movie buff. This is one I watch from time to time and enjoy it every time I watch it
Longing for the good 'ol days.......2007-08-07
I grew up in Northern California and graduated from Fremont High School in the not so small town of Oakland in 1965 (and later from California Polytechnic University in San luis Obispo in 1975, after a short stint in the service). I remember the Mel's drive-in in downtown Oakland, and I remember the 'cruising' on San Leandro Blvd on Friday and Saturday nights (although I couldn't afford to get a car until 1968--a 1961 Volvo PV 544 sedan--(Wow, I wish I had that car back!). I have to say that this movie is truly one of the best nostalgia stirring movies I have ever seen. It tugs at your heart and reminds us babyboomers that there really was a simpler, more carefree time and we lived it! When gas was 23 cents a gallon (or less when the gas wars were on), you loved Casper's Hotdogs, and education costs were almost nothing if you attended Merritt Junior College. When you rode on the back of your friend's Vespa motorbike to San Jose, just because you had never been there, and when you took off in your car on a whim to visit Big Basin to see the redwoods. Talk about a movie that causes you to reminisce!
Happy Highways.......2007-07-09
Into my heart on air that kills
From you far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills,
What spires, what farms are those?
That is the land of lost content,
I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again.
This verse, from A.E. Housman's "A Shropshire Lad", summarizes everything that I feel for American Graffiti. The movie opened when I was 13 years old. It was my first "R" rated movie and the sold out theater erupted with laughter over and over. Now I'm 47 and I find it almost too sad to watch. Where did my childhood friends go? What lives have they led? The sweet promise of youth: a happy highway where I went and cannot come again.
American Graffiti .......2007-06-27
I didn't care for this movie too much. It might be ok for teenagers but I doubt today's teenager would relate, it may seem kind of nerdy to them.
