Critics and controversy aside, The Da Vinci Code is a verifiable blockbuster. Combine the film's huge worldwide box-office take with over 100 million copies of Dan Brown's book sold, and The Da Vinci Code has clearly made the leap from pop-culture hit to a certifiable franchise. The leap for any story making the move from book to big screen, however, is always more perilous. In the case of The Da Vinci Code, the plot is concocted of such a preposterous formula of elements that you wouldn't envy screenwriter Akiva Goldsman, the man tasked with making this story filmable. The script follows Dan Brown's book as closely as possible while incorporating a few needed changes, including a better ending. And if you're like most of the world, by now you've read the book and know how it goes: while lecturing in Paris, noted Harvard Professor of Symbology Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) is summoned to the Louvre by French police to help decipher a bizarre series of clues left at the scene of the murder of the chief curator. Enter Sophie Neveu (Audrey Tautou), gifted cryptologist. Neveu and Langdon team up to solve the mystery, and from there the story is propelled across Europe, ballooning into a modern-day mini-quest for the Holy Grail, where secret societies are discovered, codes are broken, and murderous albino monks are thwarted… oh, and alternative theories about the life of Christ and the beginnings of Christianity are presented too, of course. It's not the typical formula for a stock Hollywood thriller. In fact, taken solely as a mystery, the movie almost works--despite some gaping holes--mostly just because it keeps moving. Brown's greatest trick was to have the entire story take place in one day, so the action is forced to keep moving, despite some necessary pauses for exposition. As a screen couple, Hanks and Tautou are just fine together but not exactly memorable; meanwhile Sir Ian McKellen's scenery-chewing as pivotal character Sir Leigh Teabing is just what the film needed to keep it from taking itself too seriously. The whole thing is like a good roller-coaster ride: try not to think too much about it--just sit back and enjoy the trip. --Daniel Vancini

On The DVD
The DVD extras on a film as popular as The Da Vinci Code should be plentiful, and this version doesn't skimp. With over 90 minutes of special features, including ten behind-the-scenes featurettes, there's a lot here to explore beyond the film itself. The question is, is there anything new here that we haven't heard before, in all the hype, pseudo-documentaries, and controversy surrounding the movie, to make it worthwhile? For most viewers, the answer will be "yes." Essentially, if you like the movie, if you enjoyed the book, you will get a lot out of them.

Just as the movie is intended to make the book come to life, the DVD extras should make the film come to life by pointing the audience into the world of the filmmakers, connecting the dots between print and film, and for the most part they do just that. The extras here range from the typical look behind-the-scenes to more in-depth features on the supporting characters, the locations, and the Mona Lisa herself. "First Day on the Set with Ron Howard" features the director gushing about the opportunity to film in the Louvre and work with Tom Hanks again (the two worked together before on Splash and Apollo 13). It's a short piece that doesn't reveal much beyond making an attempt to share Howard's excitement (with the "Gee, I really loved working with him/her on this project" that you hear in every such featurette), but viewers might enjoy seeing how the stage was set up in the famous museum, down to the spike tape on the floor showing actors where to hit their marks. The Filmmaking Experience, Parts 1 and 2 further explores the creative and technical aspects of the filmmaking process. A Conversation with Dan Brown starts out feeling like a puff-piece (the man who wrote this book got started at age 5 with a story called The Giraffe, The Pig, and the Pants on Fire. "It was a thriller," he says.) and unfortunately it doesn't go very deep into much of anything of interest. But on the other hand, this isn't 60 Minutes here; it's intended to give viewers a better sense of the man behind the franchise, which it does. Much of the footage from this interview is sprinkled throughout some of the other featurettes. Meanwhile, the character behind the franchise, Robert Langdon, is examined in his own featurette, as is Sophie Neveu. The cool thing here is getting under the skin of the actors to see how they approached the characters, knowing that most of the movie-going public already has formed their own ideas about the characters from the book.

The most interesting extras are the featurettes that focus on the history behind the mystery. Or is it the mystery behind the history? Either way, the first one on the Mona Lisa, and the second featurette on the many codes and symbols that are hidden throughout the movie balance out the remainder of the extras nicely by demonstrating the sense of intrigue, mystery, and game-playing adventure that made The Da Vinci Code so popular in the first place. --Daniel Vancini

Join symbologist Robert Langdon (Academy Award® Winner Tom Hanks, 1993 Best Actor, Philadelphia, and 1994 Best Actor, Forrest Gump) and cryptologist Sophie Neveu (Audrey Tautou) in their heart-racing quest to solve a bizarre murder mystery that will take them from France to England - and behind the veil of a mysterious ancient society, where they discover a secret protected since the time of Christ. With first-rate performances by Sir Ian McKellen, Alfred Molina and Jean Reno, critics are calling The Da Vinci Code "involving" and "intriguing," "a first rate thriller."

3 out of 5 stars Ok movie, but no hit...........2007-09-08

Like most everybody else, I'd already read the Da Vinci Code before I saw this movie...Glad I did, or this would have been difficult to follow.
The movie wasn't terribly bad, but neither is it a hit, by any means. I suppose this is a difficult book to make a movie out of, anyway.

The supporting cast was much better than the two main characters played by Hanks and Tautou. Tom Hanks seemed almost stony; he showed very little emotion. Tautou was a fairly convincing young French policewoman, but again, not a lot of "acting" on her part...Jean Reno, Prochnow and the others were far better.

The movie contains some flashback scenes to the middle ages. They were quite fake looking, to me. Should have pared these down a lot.

I get a feeling this film was a rush job. Wish more time or thought had been put into it.
(PS - remember, Brown's novel is FICTION...too many credulous people have gotten carried away with the book and movie:)

2 out of 5 stars A rough transistion from book to movie.......2007-09-07

A funny thing "The DaVinci Code". When you're reading through the fast paced car chases and Indiana Jones like romp through history, you think to yourself, "This has `Hollywood Movie Script' written all over it." But when you actually watch the movie, it feels remarkably like you're reading a book. Yet one more example of a story that, for one reason or another, didn't survive the jump between mediums very well.

Although it is tempting to say that Ron Howard really mucked this up, I'm not sure how well the story would have fared with a different director. Although the book at first glance might seem to be the perfect Hollywood movie, on further reflection this probably would have been a difficult transition in any case. The success of Indiana Jones and his ilk is based upon the fact that they are action/adventure movies with a bit of history thrown in for flavor. "The Davinci Code" is essentially a historical thesis, with some action thrown in to make it an interesting novel. But there's just too much information in the book to pack into a Hollywood movie. Anyone who hadn't read the book would be left confused about what was going on, and yet the movie already seems terribly long and talky as it is. I thought it was one of the longest 2 1/2 hours I ever sat through.

There has already been much discussion about the accuracy of this book (to put it mildly) and how much of this Dan Brown can get away with in the fictional genre. I don't approach this book with any sort of religious axe to grind, but at the same time I don't particularly like being lied to. Which was my main criticism of "The Davinci Code." I do realize its fiction, but I would have felt a little better about the whole thing if the author had been upfront about it.

However when this turns into a big budget Hollywood movie, all bets are off. I don't expect it true, and I don't care if it's true. I just want to watch something interesting. If I wanted to actually learn about the knights Templars, I'd read a book or rent a documentary.

And this I think is the second big problem with this story in the film medium. I'm not saying Hollywood films shouldn't be educational. Hollywood does some great history bi-opics, but they do it by actually showing the life. The kind of talking heads in "The Davinci Code" is not why people go to the movies.

In short, this film may represent another example of "The Last Temptation of Jesus Christ" phenomenon. It's a mediocre film that would probably have faded quietly away, if the religious right hadn't made such a big deal of protesting it.

2 out of 5 stars Disappointing.......2007-09-01

The curator of the Louvre in Paris is murdered in the museum, leaving behind a series of cryptic messages for an American author and expert on symbols and ciphers. Along with the curator's granddaughter, a French policewoman, they must follow the clues while evading the police to uncover a secret that would change 2000 years of Christian history.

Having read the book and enjoyed it, I was very disappointed in the movie. Maybe is just wasn't meant to be a film. There is a lot to explain as the story line moves along and Dan Brown was able to make it informative and exciting on the page. Unfortunately on the screen these scenes are long and dull. The movie on a whole was too long and for a thriller had very few thrills. The whole mood just didn't work, making everything happen too slowly to really engage the viewer. Even Tom Hanks, one of the best actors in the world, was not good in this movie. The only person that escapes unscathed is Ian McKellan who gave a believable, fanatic performance.

5 out of 5 stars DaVinci Code more truthful than the Fiction in the Bible!!!.......2007-08-24

The DaVinci Code is the BEST movie and the BEST book I ever read! Dan Brown keep up the good work for standing up for the True Kingdom as told by Jesus in the earliest text of the historical Jesus, "The Gospel of Thomas." Mary Magdalene was the founder of Christianity and no doubt the greatest Apostle in the Circle of Jesus! Even the New Testament says that! She is the founder of Christianity, by being selected by Jesus to be seen by her first as the Resurrected Jesus! The Church we have grown up in and believed in and downsized Mary Magdalene as a prostitute! This happened in the 3rd to 4th century by emperor Constatine, who felt he was the 13th Apostle and that he was the savior of Christianity, not Jesus who died and failed in his mission as the Messiah! The Church we grew up has grown up believing a lie! The Truth is that we are brothers and sisters of Jesus in worship of the Father!!! The Kingdom and the Resurrection are here and now, if we just believe! The Gospel of Thomas says that eternal life begins today, as a resurrected soul in the here and now! Not in an organized church made of humans who have thrown out Jesus as the Cornerstone, and made the Kingdom a group of political and monetary wolves that thrive on the ignorant! Please share the Word, of Jesus, the Truth in the Gospel of Thomas! All our salvation has arrived in the Words of Jesus, Honor in his name!!! Amen!!!

2 out of 5 stars ugh Tom Hanks..........2007-08-23

Anybody who has read the book knows that Tom Hanks is NOT in no way Robert Langdon. No. Way. When I first heard that I thought it was a joke, but unfortunetly, it was the awful truth. And he did ruin the movie for me. That and the fact that they butchered the beautiful novel. It was barely recognizable. What's even worse is that they are making 'Angels and Demons' and still keeping Tom Hanks. Another disaster waiting to happen.

The Hunt for Red October
Based on Tom Clancy's bestseller, directed by John McTiernan (Die Hard) and starring Sean Connery and Alec Baldwin, The Hunt For Red October seethes with high-tech excitement and sweats with the tension of men who hold Doomsday in their hands. A new technologically-superior Soviet nuclear sub, the Red October, is heading for the U.S. coast under the command of Captain Marko Ramius (Connery). The American government thinks Ramius is planning to attack. A lone CIA analyst (Baldwin) has a different idea: he thinks Ramius is planning to defect, but he has only a few hours to find him and prove it - because the entire Russion naval and air commands are trying to find him, too. The hunt is on!

Patriot Games
Harrison Ford stars as Jack Ryan in this explosive thriller based on Tom Clancy's international best-seller. His days as an intelligence agent behind him, former CIA analyst Jack Ryan has traveled to London to vacation with his wife (Anne Archer, Fatal Attraction) and child (Thora Birch, All I Want For Christmas). Meeting his family outside of Buckingham Palace, Ryan is caught in the middle of a terrorist attack on Lord Holmes (James Fox, The Russian House), a member of the Royal Family. Ryan helps to thwart Holmes' assailants and becomes a local hero. But Ryan's courageous act marks him as a target in the sights of the terrorist (Sean Bean, Stormy Monday) whose brother he killed. Now Ryan must return to action for the most vital assignment of his life: to save his family. Costarring James Earl Jones (The Hunt For Red October).

Clear and Present Danger
In Clear and Present Danger, Harrison Ford returns as intrepid CIA agent Jack Ryan. When his mentor, Admiral Greer (Jones), becomes gravely ill, Ryan is appointed acting CIA Deputy Director of Intelligence. His first assignment: investigate the murder of one of the President's friends, a prominent U.S. businessman with secret ties to Colombian drug cartels. Unbeknownst to Ryan, the CIA has already dispatched a deadly field operative (Dafoe) to lead a paramilitary force against the Colombian drug lords. Caught in the crossfire, Ryan takes matters into his own hands, risking his career and life for the only cause he still believes in -- the truth.

Seven films. Four Bonds. One set. This sprawling collection surveys over 30 years of James Bond skullduggery, from the cold war tensions of the 1960s to the international free-for-all of the present. Sean Connery remains the coolest of the Bonds, a ruthless agent with dry martini wit and a way with the women, and in Goldfinger his steely presence helped forge the Bond formula of tongue-in-cheek wit, wondrous secret agent toys created by Q, and megalomaniac supervillains bent on world destruction. Thunderball upped the Bond ante with the most ambitious adventure--and budget--to date. Roger Moore brought an altogether lighter tone to 007 with Live and Let Die, softening Connery's rough edges with a more romantic persona as the films became even more exotic. After a brief digression into outer space, For Your Eyes Only returned Bond to globetrotting high adventure and teamed him with his most endearing ally (Topol as a gregarious smuggler). Timothy Dalton made his second and final appearance as Bond in Licence to Kill, the toughest of the Bond films since Connery's early efforts. Though not a fan favorite, it's a sleek, solid adventure with an edge missing from the Moore pictures. Pierce Brosnan is the latest to take on 007's licence to kill, combining the best of Connery's cool and Moore's humor. GoldenEye is the best Bond film in years, a grand globetrotting adventure with lovely Bond girls and a tough new M (Judy Dench). Tomorrow Never Dies doesn't recapture that magic mix of action, gadgetry, and romance, but does feature the first Bond girl to match 007 blow for blow: Hong Kong action superstar Michelle Yeoh. Taken together, this set is a veritable cross-section of the many faces of James Bond. All that's missing is George Lazenby. Do I hear a nomination for set 2? --Sean Axmaker

1 out of 5 stars Better idea for Bond.......2006-08-30

Okay, these sets suck. Come on, this is James friggin' Bond here!!! We can do better than this. Here's my idea of how to handle the Bond box sets, and with any luck in 2010 they'll this to me. As much as I'd love to see one huge box set, that just wouldn't work. First of all it would be simply too big and too expensive, and second of all with new Bond movies every few years it would be out of date rather quickly. So do them by decades. Dig it - the Bond collection volume 1: The 60's. You could do all the movies released after 62's Dr. No but before 1970, and still have room for a really cool bonus disc. Granted, some volumes would be heftier than others (the 90's would be a bit slim), but with no end in sight for the Bond franchise this seems the best way too go. Plus, if you're like me, your a completist. You HAVE to have the whole franchise, even if most of the movies suck (which is why I'm buying the Exorcist and Superman box sets). This way, you get "On her Majesty's Secret Service" and the Dalton movies, but you don't have to feel cheated. Come on, somebody back me up. This is an idea that's come.

3 out of 5 stars The James Bond Collection VHS.......2004-05-04

Not a bad collection of Bond material, however, this is a mix of various Bond movies with a variety of leading Bond actors. I recommend looking into the 1996 Collections that have the videos in chronological order and primarily by actor. JAMES BOND 007 Collector's Set, Vol. 1 includes all six Broccoli-produced Sean Connery Bond films, to include a 1995 documentary video. JAMES BOND 007 Collector's Set, Vol. 2 includes all seven Roger Moore films and Timothy Dalton's first film. Although these sets are out-of-print, they are still available as used and collector's sets through Amazon.com's Marketplace. If you're like most fans, you'd prefer to have the movies that include your own favorite "leading-Bond-man"!

5 out of 5 stars 007 Beats the Devil.......2004-03-12

James Bond goes up against some of the toughest forces of evil in this collection. GOLDFINGER contains a well-balanced level of depth and action leaving one emotionally charged. This is Sean Connery's finest James Bond film. The golden girl, Oddjob's bowler hat, Goldfinger's lethal laser, the Astin Martin DB5 with modifications introduced by Q, and Shirley Bassey's legendary rendition of the theme song belted out over the titles immediately became an integral part of the James Bond lore and remained in the psyche of the public. Production designer Ken Adam and art director Peter Murton gave the production a stunning and lavish distinction. The Fort Knox set and Goldfinger's playroom at his stud ranch was a testament to imagination and achievement. John Barry finally honed his distinctive style to perfection with this memorable score. In THUNDERBALL 007's Astin Martin DB5 returns and so do the evil forces of S.P.E.C.T.R.E. In his fourth film Sean Connery is self-assured, inimitably virile and an infallible James Bond. Adolfo Celi as Emilio Largo devises and implements a plan that ultimately draws 007 to the Bahamas in search of a missing Vulcan jet lost on a NATO training sortie. This is a lavish Bond film where most of the action takes place underwater. What makes the film very memorable is John Barry's rich and esoteric score combined with Lamar Boren's beautiful and picturesque underwater photography. The cover of the THUNDERBALL dvd is very impressive and haunting. LIVE AND LET DIE is the one film in this series that stands out from the rest. It does not even seem like it is part of the series. The character of James Bond as played by Roger Moore was totally revamped in LIVE AND LET DIE. Bond seems to have traded in cigarettes for cheroots. Gone were the "Martinis shaken not stirred," the Dom Perigone, Bond's virility, worldliness and sardonic wit. Instead Bond uses his urbane sagacity and charm to follow the pipeline from New York to a Caribbean island to destroy a drug empire protected by a voodoo legion of hoodlum Mr. Big. LIVE AND LET DIE is a very entertaining film. In FOR YOUR EYES ONLY 007 gets rough as he goes up against an international tycoon on the payroll of the Soviets. This is an action packed film, with picturesque European and Mediterranean locales and a very exciting score by Bill Conti. The sinking of the St. Georges, the attack on Kristatos' warehouse and Bond kicking Locque's car, with Locque still inside, off the cliff were high points that were excellently filmed. LICENCE TO KILL has Timothy Dalton as an avenging James Bond turned rouge agent out to eliminate drug lord Sanchez in Isthmus City. There are many great action scenes on the land, on and under the sea and in the air. The best element of the story line is having Bond place doubt in the mind of Sanchez that henchmen in his organization were plotting against him. The film's greatest asset is Benicio Del Toro's performance as Dario, a Sanchez henchman. GOLDENEYE is Pierce Brosnan's first film as James Bond and seems more like a hybrid of Sean Connery and Timothy Dalton, combing the best elements that each brought to the role. He possesses intelligence, wit, charm and dedication and delivers these with no-nonsense passion and drive. GOLDENEYE is a great looking film beautifully filmed for mood and action. Some of the film's high points are the miniatures by Derek Meddings; probably his best work in the series, the return of the Astin Martin DB5 and Eric Serra's original if controversial score. Serra's interpretation of "The James Bond Theme" over the opening gun barrel trademark is powerful and very innovative. One can not appreciate Serra's contribution to this film unless the DVD is played through a surround stereo system with a good amount of bass and volume pumped up. This boxed set boasts some outstanding graphics. Outstanding!

4 out of 5 stars BOND...JAMES BOND.......2002-09-19

Ok, i'm a huge James Bond fan. And, as a distinguished ametuer film critic, I know what I like. And these films I like. From the dry-as-a-vodka-martini wit and charm of Sean Connery to the hard-edged Pierce Brosnan, the James Bond films vary in quality, but for the most part they are entertaining without being too political. And this first collection presents some of the best films in the series. Directed by Guy Hamilton, GOLDFINGER IS the best Bond film. No question. It epitomizes the entire franchise's appeal, with the brilliant Connery oozing charm, the terrific title villain played by Gert Frobe, to Shirley Bassey's powerful title tune to 007's ultra-cool Aston Martin. One line from Bassey's song sums it up nicely: "The man with the midas touch". Almost as good is THUNDERBALL, another great addition to the early "Pow! Bang!" Bond films, with stunning underwater photography, foxy bathing beauties and hungry sharks! Monty Norman's fantastic score adds another layer of panache, and the terrific action and endless one-liners (Bond dispatches a villain with a spear gun, then coolly says "I think he got the point") makes this one one of the best.
Roger Moore's first outing as the debonair secret agent in LIVE AND LET DIE is somewhat disappointing, but there are still some good action set-pieces and witty one-liners. But for me, the best bit was Paul McCartney's smashing title song.
FOR YOUR EYES ONLY saw the serious James Bond return after they norsed it up with MOONRAKER. There are a number of great action bits, and it's Moore's best performance (In this humble critic's opinion) in the whole series.
The second Timothy Dalton film LICENCE TO KILL is ok, but it's unnecessary violence and lack of witty humor parts it from the usual Bond fare and places it somewhere in hard-man action territory. That said, there are some good villains, but it's really just not as fun as THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS.
And then everything clicked with GOLDENEYE, the best of the Brosnan flicks so far, with amazing action, spectacular stunts and a thumping title track by Tina Turner. TOMORROW NEVER DIES has great action and stunts, but lacks a meaty villain to pump up the story. It's good, but not great. All put together with an impressive bunch of DVD extras, this is a must-buy item for any Bond fan.

The second grab bag of 007 adventures features three Bonds in five films, including the legendary movie that started it all. In 1962 Sean Connery defined the cinematic James Bond as a tough, charming, and thoroughly professional cold war spy with a license to kill in the lean, hard-edged Dr. No. With Ursula Andress (as the original Bond girl Honey Ryder, who makes her entrance in a bikini), Bond battles a renegade supervillain with little more than his wits, his cunning, and his Walther PPK (this was before Q armed him with the coolest toys a superspy ever had). George Lazenby, a handsome Australian model with a self-effacing confidence, made his first and only appearance as James Bond in the underrated On Her Majesty's Secret Service, a witty and action-packed adventure that makes 007 history when Bond marries the girl (the lovely and talented Diana Rigg, fresh from her duties as the butt-kicking spy on the TV series The Avengers). Roger Moore brought a light tone and a suave assurance to the series as the third Bond, and the set features three of his seven appearances. In The Man with the Golden Gun, he battles million-dollar assassin Christopher Lee, one of Bond's most magnetic adversaries. The Spy Who Loved Me, perhaps Moore's finest hour, is a return to the extravagant set pieces and cold war thrills of Connery's pictures and introduces Richard Kiel's steel-dentured Jaws to the series. Jaws returns as a comic figure in Moonraker, a misguided sci-fi entry that takes Bond to space for a physically impressive but dramatically lackluster adventure. More of a mixed bag than the initial seven-film James Bond Gift Set, this set is aimed at the Bond completist rather than the general fan. The DVD editions of the films each feature audio commentary by the director and key members of the crew, "making of" documentaries, and a host of stills, TV spots, and trailers. --Sean Axmaker

5 out of 5 stars Good Bond Set.......2006-01-17

This outstanding set includes the films DR. NO, THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN, MOONRAKER, THE SPY WHO LOVED ME, and ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE. THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN is on its way to becoming a cult classic while you get George Lazenby's single performance as James Bond in the ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE, already a cult classic. THE SPY WHO LOVED ME and MOONRAKER are Roger Moore's two epic Bond productions showing off Ken Adams' production designs for the last time in the series. Ken Adams' production designs were first seen in DR. NO and established the look of the Bond films for rest of the series. Sean Connery's performance in DR. NO remains one of the best to date.

3 out of 5 stars The James Bond Collection Vol. 2, VHS.......2004-05-04

5 out of 5 stars The Undertakers Wind and other Stuff.......2004-03-12

The groundbreaking DR. NO is one of the best James Bond films of the series. Sean Connery's performance is that of the no-nonsense dedicated civil servant entrusted with a "licence-to-kill" when he chooses, where he chooses and whom he chooses. His screen presence alone conveys the physical, intellectual and moral conviction of the character. Connery's portrayal in this film directed by Terence Young seems closer to the literary James Bond created by Ian Fleming. Many elements that distinguish the James Bond series were introduced in this film. The opening gun barrel trademark, "The James Bond Theme," M played by Bernard Lee, Miss Moneypenny played by Lois Maxwell, Ken Adam's distinctive melding of modern and futuristic production designs, Maurice Binder's unique main titles, the "Martinis shaken not stirred," exotic locales, just to name a few are all here. Bond is sent to Jamaica, land of the Undertakers Wind, to investigate the elimination of British field agents and strange signals that have been interfering with the American space program. Joseph Wiseman as DR. NO is one of the best villains of the series. His steel mono-toned performance is eerily unsettling. Ursula Andress as Honey Ryder leaves the most indelible image of the series as she emerges erotically from the blue waters of the Caribbean clad in her white bikini. Along with Felix Leiter and Quarrel, Bond must uncover the trail that all leads to DR. NO's mysterious Crab Key. ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE is the one film closest to any of Ian Fleming's Bond novels. George Lazenby, possessing the physique and physical attributes that fit the role, gives a visually striking and straightforward performance in his only appearance as James Bond. The combined efforts of all the filmmakers and Lazenby's performance of a James Bond with conviction, assuredness and determination make this the definitive James Bond film. The film has a sense of undeniable drive behind it accentuated by Lazenby's no-nonsense approach and the urgency of John Barry's instrumental theme used repeatedly to never let up the pace. If James Bond was ever the dedicated civil servant it is ever so evident in this film. There are intensely choreographed fights of great ferocity, exciting and incredible ski chases, car chases, an alpine battle atop an ice-capped peak and an extraordinary thrilling bobsled chase. There is more action, suspense and emotion packed into this film than any other in the series and Lazenby's hard edged performance, Peter Hunt's direction and John Barry's driving score make it all work. ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE is possibly the best film of the series. THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN contains one of Roger Moore's best performances as James Bond as he injects Bond's virility, worldliness and sardonic wit back into the character in his second appearance as Bond. Christopher Lee's performance as the enigmatic Scaramanga is refreshingly energetic giving the assassin an amiable quality on the surface hiding a darker side beneath. An often-overlooked asset to this film is Maud Adams' performance as Andrea, Scaramanga's beautiful mistress. She brings genuine compassion to the role as the tormented individual who can not escape her master. There is also great location cinematography in this film. We see Bond at the gambling tables at the Casino de Macaoand and witness his solo flight through the uprooted rock formations near Phuket, Thailand to Scaramanga's island. One bit of innovation combing location filming, miniatures and set design was the use of the half-submerged Queen Elizabeth, its hull at a 30-degree angle, scorched and rusted at rest in Hong Kong harbor. Hidden in the bowels of the sunken ship is the headquarters for the Hong Kong station of the British Secret Service. "It's the only place in Hong Kong where you can't be bugged" says a naval officer to Bond. THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN contains martial arts sequences, an imaginative car chase and some very witty dialogue. The music soundtrack by John Barry was re-mastered in stereo. THE SPY WHO LOVED ME is a big-budgeted opulent film with effective screenplay and editing delivering one of the most succinctly structured films of the series. Roger Moore clearly redefined his approach to the role as the good-natured British agent. His Bond is suave, debonair, never condescending and resorts to seriousness only when confronted with malevolence. That was the way he played it for the rest of the series. The globetrotting THE SPY WHO LOVED ME featured a gadget laden Lotus Esprit as its centerpiece and a maniacal villain Stromberg whose immense wealth featured an aquatic empire aimed at global domination. Great action sequences and chases abound. MOONRAKER is one of the biggest films of the entire series. Once again Bond is on the trail of another maniacal villain, Hugo Drax, whose immense wealth has financed the research and production of the space shuttle program. This is also another globetrotting epic that features gorgeous location work in Venice and Rio de Janeiro bringing out the of essence of these exquisite cities. Following his work on THE SPY WHO LOVED ME, production designer Ken Adam returned with some sets reminiscent of the earlier Bond films as well as some completely innovative sets for Drax's space empire. MOONRAKER plays like a compendium of the entire series running the gamut from the serious to the fanciful. MOONRAKER contains many elements to please the diverse tastes of the millions of Bond fans. That is the magic of MOONRAKER. There is incredible action in this film. The free-fall sequence is one of the best pre-title sequences of the series. The boat chase in the South American jungle is truly thrilling. Bond's fight in the Venetian glass museum is a classic. John Barry's score is exquisite and moving, one of his most unique. The dialogue by Christopher Wood is witty and intelligent. MOONRAKER has it all. This Volume demonstrates the versatility and diversity of the world of James Bond.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent Set, but the scalpers want your blood for this one.......2003-11-25

The studio has just re-released this James Bond set three so don't buy it from the scalpers here wanting two to three hundred plus dollars. Amazon will be selling the new re-release Set three as of November 17th. My advice to you is you can buy all three new re-released sets for under three hundred dollars. The set itself is great. Some of the best James Bond movies are in this set. The picture and sound quality are great and they include many extra features. You can get the new sets for under ninety dollars. If you bought the other sets and didn't get this one, do like me and donate the others to charity and buy the new sets. Makes me feel good about cheating the scalpers out of my money instead of them cheating me out it.

3 out of 5 stars VHS is going down the drain........2003-10-05

All of the bond movies are great, and plenty of fun to watch, but I have just one thing to say about this Item - VHS Sucks. Some if not all versions of movies com in full screen, which looks like a midget compared to widescreen format. One last thing is that with DVD you get almost none of the special features avalible on the DVD versions of the movie. Trust me, get a DVD player for fifty bucks, and stick to all of the movies that have the word "Widescreen" written on them. In the longrun the DVD player will pay for itself, and with the widescreen movies you won't be missing up to half of the movie fotage.

In the longrun, the Bond films are great, but widescreen just sucks. Period.

Sean Connery casts a long shadow over the James Bond legacy. He created the movie persona and starred in six of the first seven features, all but establishing the cool cold warrior as the world's most suave secret agent. The six titles in MGM's third collection celebrate the Connery Bond with three of his classics, including From Russia with Love, 007's second and perhaps finest outing. A blond, buff Robert Shaw plays Bond's most ruthless nemesis, and Lotte Lenya and the great Pedro Armindáriz costar in this sleek, high-energy trip through the Iron Curtain. Connery travels to the Far East in You Only Live Twice, which introduces the international criminal conspiracy SPECTRE and its cat-loving mastermind, Blofeld (Donald Pleasence). After a brief retirement, Connery returned for Diamonds Are Forever, his final "official" appearance in the Bond series (15 years later he played Bond for a rival studio's Never Say Never Again). This more tongue-in-cheek adventure takes 007 to Las Vegas, where he battles Blofeld (this time played by Charles Gray) and his minions--namely, a pair of fey, sardonic henchmen and a team of bikini-clad karate killers.

Octopussy, a colorful cold war thriller and one of Roger Moore's better Bond outings, stars Louis Jourdan as a corrupt Afghan prince and Maud Adams (making her second Bond appearance) as the ringmaster of an all-babe traveling circus team that unknowingly carries a nuclear bomb. Christopher Walken hams it up under a platinum-blond hairdo while his Amazon bodyguard, Grace Jones, growls through A View to a Kill, a silly but often visually impressive adventure that made it obvious Moore was too old and stiff to carry on the Bond legacy. The torch was passed to Timothy Dalton in The Living Daylights, an attempt to clear away the camp elements of Moore's portrayal and return to a lean, hard-edged spy thriller for the post-cold war era. It lacks the larger-than-life characters and spectacle of previous Bond pictures, but Dalton was a tough, ruthless 007 and a worthy inheritor of the legacy, which was then passed on to Pierce Brosnan.

The DVD editions of the films each feature audio commentary by the director and key members of the crew, "making of" documentaries, and a host of stills, TV spots, trailers, and other supplements. --Sean Axmaker

4 out of 5 stars Bond NO.3.......2002-09-25

The third collection of the James Bond series has some of the best of the films, and in contrast, some of the not-so-good films. Starting off with DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER with Sean Connery as Bond, this one is somewhat lacklustre in comparison to the early 007 films, but there's still some fun to be had with some cool car chases through Vegas and an ensamble of menacing villians. The second entry into the Bond franchise, FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE is brilliant entertainment taken from Ian Flemming's best novel. Everything clicked in this one after the sometimes shaky DR NO (Due mostly to the increase in budget), from Connery's commanding performance, to some gripping action and the late, great Robert Shaw as a ruthless assasin. Gadgets, cool action and the entry of Q, played by Desmond LLewelyn. Masterfully constructed, FRWL is one of the greatest films ever made.
Following Roger Moore's long list of films, Timothy Dalton made his debut as the charming secret agent in THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS. While the action is impressive, the film falls short of having any meaty villians. But Dalton is much closer to the mark with the character of Bond in Flemming's books. His performance, restrained at times, is a more cold portrayal than Moore. OCTOPUSSY is one of Roger Moore's better films, but John Glen's ham-fisted direction leaves the film with little in the way of inventive action. Last but not least, YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE. Connery is good, but not up to his usaul standards. This collection, while impressive, is perhaps best suited for hard-core fans rather than action buffs.

4 out of 5 stars Bond, James Bond.......2002-01-31

Probably the best James Bond movie of all was "From Russia With Love". At least if you like spy movies with a shred of reality. During the Cold War of the early sixties this film was true to character and had believable undercover operations. With Goldfinger (not in this set) they got more high tech and the believability started to go out the window. I am not saying they weren't entertaining, just not as believable as the original Ian Fleming books or Tom Clancy movies. The rest the movies in this set are okay but nothing special. Dalton was okay but no Sean Connery or Pierce Brosnan. Roger Moore was loosing his touch and it shows. I never thought they should have hired him after The Saint TV series in the first place. This is a good set but it is not available at this time. Amazons price is reasonable and I am sure this will be back on their available list in the next few months if you can wait. I have talked to several retail stores and they were instructed to pull copies of all James Bond movies off the shelfs by MGM. The movies are not out of print as some would have you believe. I have heard a couple stories as to why it was pulled (i.e. daughter of someone involved with picture rights is not satified with percentage, defects in quality of the DVDs, or new movie coming out so they want movies off the shelf to stimilate interest but they will be back on shelf in September). What ever the reason there are far to many fans for this not to be back out on DVD sometime very soon. Don't spend more than what Amazon charges for a new copy or you are paying to much. Wait and buy it from Amazon so you won't kick yourself for being impatient and paying a scalper. Don't buy it here, go to where the new James Bond sets are being sold by Amazon. They are under ninety dollars.

2 out of 5 stars Horrible set.......2002-01-19

This set os aboslutely horrible. Not only do you get the awful "Diamonds are Forever," but you get the even more awful "A View to a kill." The others are so-so. "You Only Live Twice" gets my vote fore most action in a Sean Connery/Bond film, but the plot leaves something to be desired. "Octopussy," is pretty good, and deserves a good 4 stars. Some good stunts and acting, but Moore is getting really old. (He was 56 when he did "Octopussy" and 58 when he did "A View to a Kill") "The Living Daylights" is OK. Timothy Dalton is good, as is the car he has. "From Russia With Love" is undoubtedly the best in the set. In this DVD we get Sean Connery, good acting, action, sets, suspense, everything a bond film needs that I can't think of.

all in all: don't buy this. go buy From russia with love sperately in stead

    5 out of 5 stars It's a blast.......2007-08-16

I just saw the basic version that comes from Netflix, but I understand the versions are basically the same except for some added material on the 2-disk. This is where the review action seems to be, anyway.

It's a blast! Great effects - well, I know that's expected nowadays, but even so - and I like that del Toro keeps CGI in its place, preferring "live" action when it's possible. (That was a strength of his "Pan's Labyrinth", too).

I'm not much of a comic book guy, but I recognise the sharp and sassy tone of the dialog. You have to chuckle when some absolutely appalling thing happens, Hellboy's plans going horribly awry, perhaps the end of him or indeed the world, and his comment is "Oh, crap." In fact, as the monster with so many human failings and feelings, he reminds me of Grendel as interpreted by John Gardner in his marvellous book. The difference is that Grendel can't help attacking/eating humans, while Hellboy wants to save them.

So overall, just enjoy for an undemanding and never-boring experience. Appreciate the skill with which del Toro "places" you in just the right relation to the story, the mood, and the characters, so that while you never take it seriously, you never think "oh, just too silly" as one may do with inferior fantasy.

5 out of 5 stars Give Evil Hell..........2007-07-06

In the world of comic books there are many well known heroes that populate the various universes of each publishing company's books. From DC Comics' popular characters of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman to Marvel's Spiderman, X-Men, and Fantastic Four; each of those characters are beloved by comic book fans worldwide. Aside from those characters and their respective companies there are numerous other characters that have built a cult following in the comic world, but are not as well known by the mainstream public. One such character would be the Dark Horse comic book Hellboy, created by writer/artist Mike Mignola.

In theaters many of Marvel and DC's heroes have been finding their way to the big screen with varying degrees of success, most are wildly successful, but a few have faltered along the way, but not too many of the other companies have managed to bring their properties to life with as much success. Sure, there was "Spawn" (property of Image Comics) and "Judge Dredd" (British publication called '2000 A.D.') in the mid-nineties, but they weren't all that successful, so the likelihood of these little known characters finding success with movie audiences was slim to none. At least that was the case until director Guillermo del Toro ("Blade 2") passed on an opportunity to direct the 3rd installment in the 'Harry Potter' franchise, "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban", to bring one of his favorite comic characters to life.

With a successful director, such as Guillermo behind the lens, New Line Cinema must have felt fairly confident in the film's success after he had done wonders for them with the second installment in the 'Blade' trilogy, so with a director on board who respected the source material, and a talented cast of actors consisting of Ron Perlman, Selma Blair, and John Hurt, this little known comic book was about to become a living, breathing reality on the silver screen.

"Hellboy" begins in 1944 during World War 2, when Rasputin, a mad sorcerer in league with Hitler, opens a dimensional portal to Hell, and through this dimension a baby demon emerges. Before Rasputin can take the baby demon and raise him to be an instrument of death and destruction, the Allied forces stop him. Among the Allies, is a young man who raises this demon, appropriately named Hellboy, teaching him the ways of the hero. As an adult, Hellboy (Ron Perlman) works with an agency known as the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense, founded by the very man that raised him Professor Bloom (John Hurt), their job is to track any paranormal activity on Earth, and protect humanity from any danger that may be the result of that activity. Now, 60 years after releasing Hellboy on Earth, Rasputin has returned with the intention of using Hellboy to unleash the 7 gods of chaos upon Earth. With Earth's survival hanging in the balance, Hellboy and company, consisting of the firestarter Liz (Selma Blair), a human/amphibian hybrid named Abe Sapien (acted out by Doug Jones, but voiced by David Hyde Pierce), and FBI agent Myers, are in for the most difficult fight of their lives.

After finding moderate success in Hollywood with the science-fiction/horror movie "Mimic", and following that up with his much more successful comic book hit "Blade 2", director Guillermo del Toro probably seemed without a doubt the best choice to bring Hellboy to the big screen. Not only is Guillermo a gifted director in the arena of special effects and horror, but he also has a knack for making his characters have a sense of humor which serves to lighten the mood in his otherwise darker toned movies, those elements combined together with his affection for the source material created the optimal conditions for another comic book movie franchise to be born, proving him the right man for the job.

After Guillermo signed on, it was time to build the cast for the project. Now, I'm sure casting for this movie was probably typical by most comic book movie standards, but the difficult part had to have been finding the right man to don the red paint and prosthetics that are used to create Hellboy's demonic visage. Enter actor Ron Perlman ("Alien: Resurrection"), an actor that has made a career of playing somewhat strange, even scary characters, and who by the way is no stranger to wearing plenty of prosthetics. After all, Ron Perlman's best known role was that of the Beast in the live-action TV series "Beauty and the Beast" opposite actress Linda Hamilton ("The Terminator"), so with his experience with prosthetics and his penchant for strange characters, it was almost as if he was destined to be this character. The supporting cast members do very well with providing depth and reality to these strange new heroes that join together to face monsters determined to destroy us. There really wasn't a weak actor/actress in the entire bunch, a true rariety in the various genres that this movie fits into, i.e. horror, science-fiction, comic book. It was a welcome addition that everyone involved on screen and off appeared to have a deep respect for the source material and the fan base, and not just being there to collect a paycheck.

The special effects for the movie were very well done, especially the scenes with Liz's fire power being showcased. These scenes are where the CGI really shines. As I touched on earlier, the prosthetics and costume department also deserves great praise for their oustanding work done here, from Hellboy to the monsters that he faces, to Abe Sapien or Kronen, every aspect of costumes, prosthetics, and practical effects is top-notch all the way. And finally, the story for "Hellboy" was very fast paced and entertaining, without skimming on the details of the character, which I appreciated greatly due to my lack of awareness in regards to this comic book. Without this entertaining and engaging story that was smartly written to play well with audiences that would be hard-core fans of the comic and those that have either little or no knowledge of the character whatsoever.

With all of that being said, "Hellboy" is a terrific comic book based movie, that as far as I know, stays true to the source material without making newcomers to the character feel lost in the shuffle. Definitely a solid entry into the pantheon of comic book movies and a welcome addition at that.

"Hellboy" is rated PG-13 for violence and language.

4 out of 5 stars Give Evil Hell.......2007-06-05

First off let me say,I've never read a comic book in my life.I never found you had to read the comics to understand or love the films. And Hellboy was no expection.I never even heard of the comic book created by Mike Mignola (I'm sure some people hadn't heard of it too).

Ron Perlman was born to play Hellboy,he was so perfectly cast has the half-human,half-demon..You just can't see anyone else play this character.John Hurt was good as Professor Broom, the man who raised Hellboy and I didn't reconize him at all,I knew lthe voice but couldn't place the face.Selma Blair who's an actress who sometimes really annoys me,but this time she didn't.

Directed by Guillermo del Toro, whom turned down the chance to direct Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban to do this, did a great job and not really changing the story like most directors do with Comic Book films. If someone else directed Hellboy it wouldn't have been as great as it was

5 out of 5 stars Better than the original - Del Toro is magnificent.......2007-05-12

I love this movie and normally I am not crazy about the comic book genre. The characters are so rich and the story is fantastic. The extras in this edition are well worth it.

5 out of 5 stars Raving for Hellboy.......2007-03-27

I actually own the Special Edition DVD version of this movie, but I love this one all the same. You can't help but feeling sorry for Hellboy, the title character of the movie.Smitten with Elizabeth Sherman(who he calls "Liz" since they grew up together from childhood), he struggles to proclaim his love to her while watching her smile sometimes at Hellboy's new liaison,John Myers, who tries to make friends with her. This movie is an amazing action/adventure film, but with a classic twist.Included as a prelude to the movie at the beggining,a short historical part is included that explaines how Hellboy was discovered by Professor Trevor Broom & the World War II type picture they take to document the occasion. In all, this is a great movie for those who love a good action/adventure movie, but with a little real content within.

As with Star Wars, the George Lucas-produced Indiana Jones trilogy was not just a plaything for kids but an act of nostalgic affection toward a lost phenomenon: the cliffhanging movie serials of the past. Episodic in structure and with fate hanging in the balance about every 10 minutes, the Jones features tapped into Lucas's extremely profitable Star Wars formula of modernizing the look and feel of an old, but popular, story model. Steven Spielberg directed all three films, which are set in the late 1930s and early '40s: the comic book-like Raiders of the Lost Ark, the spooky, Gunga Din-inspired Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and the cautious but entertaining Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Fans and critics disagree over the order of preference, some even finding the middle movie nearly repugnant in its violence. (Pro-Temple of Doom people, on the other hand, believe that film to be the most disarmingly creative and emotionally effective of the trio.) One thing's for sure: Harrison Ford's swaggering, two-fisted, self-effacing performance worked like a charm, and the art of cracking bullwhips was probably never quite the iconic activity it soon became after Raiders. Supporting players and costars were very much a part of the series, too--Karen Allen, Sean Connery (as Indie's dad), Kate Capshaw, Ke Huy Quan, Amrish Puri, Denholm Elliot, River Phoenix, and John Rhys-Davies among them. Years have passed since the last film (another is supposedly in the works), but emerging film buffs can have the same fun their predecessors did picking out numerous references to Hollywood classics and B-movies of the past. --Tom Keogh

What could be better than a set of all three Indiana Jones movies? Each is exciting in its own way. Some people like the first movies the best; others like the second with the trip to China and the famous dinner scene; others like the third movie where Sean Connery plays the father of Indiana Jones.

I understand that a fourth Indiana Jones movies is in the works, and look forward to seeing it.

For fans and newcomers, this boxed set holds a great collection, including all four great movies. The first in the series, Batman (1989), and arguably the best of the four movies, exudes the moodiness of the Dark Knight's character. Tim Burton's direction and Michael Keaton's rendition of Batman are an electrifying combo. Together they capture the sinister atmosphere of Gotham City and Batman's darkness. Jack Nicholson as the fiendish Joker and Kim Basinger as the resourceful and gorgeous Vicki Vale lend their charm. Three years later, in 1992, Burton and Keaton reunited for Batman Returns. This time our pointy-eared hero has to combat two villains: Danny DeVito as the disturbed and freaky Penguin and Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman. In Batman Forever (1995), Joel Schumacher gave his direction to the story with Val Kilmer under the cape. Kilmer keeps the moodiness but adds a little panache to his rendition. His archenemies this time are the Riddler (Jim Carrey) and Two-Face (Tommy Lee Jones). Luckily, he enlists the help of the Boy Wonder, Robin (Chris O'Donnell). The final movie in the series, Batman & Robin, is great eye candy, and this time Schumacher returns with George Clooney as the leading man and Chris O'Donnell again as Robin. Together Batman and Robin battle the icy Mr. Freeze (Arnold Schwarzenegger), with a little help from Batgirl (Alicia Silverstone). Delve into the Gotham City world with the Dark Knight to protect you, and don't forget to make lots of popcorn for this Batman marathon. --Samantha Allen Storey

      3 out of 5 stars Batman Series.......2007-07-07

The recently released "Batman Begins" is better than all of these movies combined. Here is how I rate the films in this set:

      Batman:
Jack Nicholson is great as the Joker, but that is about it. The ending is bad. Apparently Joker is both bullet proof and missle proof; and his little gun can shoot down Batman's plane. That was really stupid. How the Joker died was dumb too. A plastic statue that weighed maybe 5lbs was stronger than him and a helicopter. Robert Wuhl sucked in the film. Who is that loss? hahaha
      B-

      Batman Returns:
Danny Devito ruined this movie. He was absolutely atrocious as the Penguin. He died in the end because he couldn't get a glass of ice water hahaha. Christopher Walken was terrible in it as well. The Walken character and his stupid son were useless in the movie. They wasted the Penguin as a villian as this story was absolutely ridiculous. Not much positive things to say except that Michelle Pfiefer was in it.
      D-

      Batman Forever:
The best of the series. Val Kilmer was good. Nicole Kidman and Jim Carrey were excellent in their parts. My favortie scene is when ED Baglel Jr. gets killed by Riddler. Good stuff. Unfortunately some of it was annoying. Like any scene Tommy Lee Jones was in.
      B+

      Batman and Robin:
Pretty bad. They should have stopped before making this. George Clooney was pathetic. Not as bad as Batman Returns, but close. I wish Mr. Freeze would have frozen everyone before they could have started the cameras rolling hahaha. This might have been responsible for ending Chris Odonnel's acting career. Where has he been? hahaha. I haven't seen him act since. Uma Thurman was one of the few bright spots.
      D+

3 out of 5 stars Not the Real Deal.......2007-06-30

I had seen 'Batman' awhile back. I then purchased and watched 'Batman Begins'. So much for what came before. I will now give the 'Anthology' to whomever wants it. Batman Begins is true to the DC comics and, what I would decribe as, more serious. It is in a way and epic story. Since this is a review of the 'Anthology', it's OK for what it is. But what it's not is 'the real deal'.

      3 out of 5 stars Batman...before Bale.......2007-05-25

Alright. I'll try to be brief.
Batman was good. Joker was weird. but it was interesting to see the 80's take on Batman. The new rubber suit looked very, very stiff. I know they all are, but this was the stiffest. I liked the beginning, but the bat sign on his chest has too many sharp angles that looks ugly. Other than that the story was good, very dark too. Keaton doesn't play the rich boy, playboy persona too well but you get used to it. Surprising that it was joker who killed his parents. Very surprising. 3 out of 5 stars.
Batman Returns was really good. Loved the suit.It fit more on Keaton and wasn't bloated like the first. Absolutely great Catwoman. Michelle Phieffer nailed that part.Penguin was really weird but Danny nailed it too. My one gripe is that they should really stage some good fight scenes. It seems like Batman is just a walking display. Good movie. 3 1/2 out of 5 stars.
Batman Forever...well it was a strange movie. New Bruce...New Batman...Different style. Extremely bright crazy lights and alot of an overreacting Two Face. Riddler was great and funny. Good job Jim. I liked this when it first came out mostly because the action improved alot. Great fights. Hideous Batmobile. Great Robin story. I give it a 3 out of 5, only because it was a lot less realistic than Returns.
Batman and Robin was a complete joke. I actually saw this in the theaters. What a bad movie. Period. I heard the same guys who made the Power Rangers kid show made this. No wonder. Way to goofy and stupid. Even the action couldn't save it. Bad Ivy, Bane is a walking, bulking dunce who only says "AAUUURGHH!" What is with Mr. Freeze. Arnold? Of all the people. Arnold? He was so cheesy in this. Batgirl doesn't help either. This is where everyone thought (including myself) that Batman sunk and would never be ressurected...until he "Begins" again in '05. This gets a 1 out of 5.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Box Set! Shame on Amazon!.......2007-04-10

Well, I must tell you guys: this product is awesome! It has everything a fan of Batman needs and wants! The only bad thing about it (at least for me) was that I thought all the discs had Spanish subtitles and that was why I bought it, but then when it arrived home, I noticed that only the movies had the subtitles, the other discs with all the bonus features didn't.

I think Amazon should specify which discs have subtitles and which discs don't, so we -all the customers- know what we are going to get. Is it so difficult to write something like: AVAILABLE SUBTITLES: English, Spanish and French (only in discs 1, 3, 5, and 7). That would be fair; Amazon is not a garage shop, it is an international web site where people from all over the world buy products.
