5 out of 5 stars STONEFACE VS. FLASH LEGS.......2007-03-27

this is arguably in chi kuan chun's aka stoneface top 5 movies he's done outside of shaw bros. the reason is that he has a formidable opponent in dorian tan tao liang aka flash legs. i swear nobody ends their opponents better than chi kuan chun not even the god bruce lee can end his opponents so precisely like the legendary chi kuan chun can. thats what hun gar style does to you. you can beat him down but somehow in all of his movies he comes back with a vengenace and he never smiles thats why they call him stoneface and when he smiles its only a few seconds or when youre beating the hell out of him. what i like about him is that he is tough and he aint dynamic or fancy he just knows how to fight. he's built like a tank and tall he has what you call that lean physique. all the tools in a great fighter just about. then we have flash legs who is arguably a top 3 kicker in the genre up there woth wong jang lee and john liu. he did this one kick in the movie and kept his leg in the air like 30 seconds thats amazing its a great display of his flexibility. thats what makes the end fight so spectacular because like i said if he kicks you you'll feel it and thats chi kuan chun said. he said it hurt when he kicked him but then chi kuan chun is so rezilliant he comes back and ends you in a split second. the fights are credit to a guy named chang peng who had a role in the movie as well. so lets all give thanks to rarescope for giving us this classic even though the picture is bad with typical old school choppy editing but bare in mind that this was lost for nearly 30 years. it is in 2:35.1 widescreen and mandarin with english subtitles you can hardly read but its adefinitely worth $7 or so a great price.

5 out of 5 stars A Good Movie.......2007-03-09

I liked the movie but I wish it was in English. The fight scenes was good. The quality of the movie was good too. Amazon has fast service and I did not have to wait over three days to receive the movie. I enjoyed their service

5 out of 5 stars Showdown at the Cotton Mill.......2007-02-16

I Really Love This Movie Mosly Because of The Great Tan-Tao Liang, The The and Most Ultimate Leg Fighter/Kicker on The Screen or in Life, And Shaw Brothers Legend Chi-Kaun Chun. The Only Knock I Have on This Movie is That My Favorite Star(Mr Tan)is The Bad Guy And of All His Movies This One Offers The Best He's Used His Kicks/Leg Techniques-The Shaolin Deadly Kicks And The Fact That I Can Not Find This Movie Any-Where in "ENGLISH VERSION" or English Dubbed. But Man What Action...

5 out of 5 stars a rare kung fu classic film.......2007-01-16

this movie got some of the greatest raw kung fu action in the late '70s. It has a decent story about revenge. the leading star took number of kung fu booses who take his challenge including a wutang clan leader who happens to be a master of leg kicks. The hero is good at using his arm skills while the wutang leader has an oustanding leg form that is very effective in combat ( witness it for urself )...if u want a good story line that is packed with raw kung fu action in every corner then check this movie out....The Dvd is widescreen, sometimes subtitle is hard to read becuase it blends in the films' color. The picture of the film is not great but is acceptable since it is a 70's classic.

5 out of 5 stars I have a question.......2006-07-04

To anybody who saw 2 champions fo Shaolin: Which movie came out first? They are both listed for 1978, but I believe this came out first and 2 champions stole a great idea from this movie (cottonmill). If anybody knows, please post it casue I have to believe that this movie had the idea first. Anybody?

I have to start out by talking about the picture quality. Restored, but still pretty bad. It is letterboxed, and luckily only at the end of one fight scene does the bad picture take effect. But even with the bad print they used, THIS IS A MUST HAVE FOR ANY OLD SCHOOL FAN!!!!!

Showdown at the Cottonmill is a pretty unique film and it kind of had a samurai movie feeling. But Toshiro Mifune neevr beat down people like Chi Kuan Chun. In the part that Cheng Cheh stole from this movie, Kuan takes off his shirt in preparation for a huge task. I honestly thought it was Brucwe Lee for a secodn. Not too many people are in shape like this guy.

So the movie is about this guy who has to keep beating people down because they keep messing with him or are just beating up innocent people. The Wudang school is very angry about this because Kuan is from a shaolin school so they send their northern champion (tan tao liang) to take him down. I have never seen Dorian tan play the villian before, but I sure would like to see it again :)

I would elaborate more on the film, but it is too good to give anything away.

Extras are really good. It has an interview with Kuan and the fat guy frmo the movie. AND THEY ARE ACTUALLY TALKING ABOUT THE MOVIE!!!!!!
Awesome interview!!!!!!
There is also a evry brief kung fu demonstration by the 2 stars.

So DON'T FREAKING BUY THIS AND THEN SAY, WAAAAA, PICTURE QUALITY SUCKS. That's why I write reviwes, so you don't have a bad kugn fu movie experience.

      Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars 2 stars, well i couldnt see the fights the dvd is garbage.......2004-04-26

Im not sure about the movie i dont think it was very good, what do i mean when i say i think it was no good.....I couldnt watch the film becouse the video was poor first off lets get this out of the way again.Dont buy fullscreen movies especially action movies, buy them as they were meant to be shown or your gonna miss some, in the case here we miss alot fights break out and you cant see them becouse the stupid pan and scan has got to pan over to catch the action in Kung Fu flix the fight could have already been over.People still holding on to that belief that fullscreen is better becouse no black lines and it fills your screen up,that might be true but you cant say you've seen the matrix untill you see it in widescreen becouse literally you havnt seen all the movie, you just watched a little over half even though you may have watched it to the end.So i guess im off topic with this movie but this is a prime example of awful video

      1 out of 5 stars Don't Do It!!!.......2002-09-10

Do not buy this DVD. It seems all of a sudden that Wu Tang collaborations on Kung Fu flicks has taken a serious nosedive! Volumes 1 through to 10 were great, but so far, volume 11 onwards are surely taking the proverbial....!
The transfers are (to put it nicely) absolute and utter RUBBISH! It's no good trying to watch a film if it constantly breaks up and feezes over half the duration of the film. I've been involved with martial arts for over thirty years and have over 500 martial arts titles of which 236 are DVD's. I've seen much better transfers on much cheaper titles!
I will not be buying into the Wu Tang joint again until they get their act together (I'd recommend all their albums though!).

3 out of 5 stars Story is fine, but transfer is poor..........2002-06-27

The fullscreen picture cuts off the left and right sides of original widescreen picture which becomes very noticable a number of times and interferes with the story. The sound sometimes gets quite a bit louder (usually the music) and then gets softer during the dialog. The last 10 seconds or so of the movie is just a black screen.

But otherwise, the story and humor is pretty good and the kung-fu fair. At these prices and considering the (lack of) competition, I give it 3 stars. So far the other 5 Wu-tang kung-fu movies I have seen are also good (somewhat better than this).

      5 out of 5 stars A very rare film-and treat!.......2002-04-07

I've been watching kung fu films for ages and have to say this one is a total rarity.Never heard of it.It must have been made at the height of the Jackie Chan craze in the early 1980's,since it stars `Jackie Chen'!The guy looks and moves like the real Jackie! He fights Bolo, and it also stars John Chang, who made Snake in the Monkey's Shadow. The film quality is great, but it's a full screen transfer. It is in 5.1 sound though. And the extra features are terrific-loads of cast and crew clips(including one on Jackie imitators!),and plenty of Wu Tang Clan material. These guys really live what they preach!I recommend this and the other Wu Tang Clan DVD's like-Shaolin Drunkard,Incredible Kung Fu Master,Snake Shadow Lama Fist,Kung Fu of 8 Drunkards, Revenge of the Patriots and 18 Fatal Strikes.
