Ever spend eight hours in a "Productivity Bin"? Ever had worries about layoffs? Ever had the urge to demolish a temperamental printer or fax machine? Ever had to endure a smarmy, condescending boss? Then Office Space should hit pretty close to home for you. Peter (Ron Livingston) spends the day doing stupefyingly dull computer work in a cubicle. He goes home to an apartment sparsely furnished by IKEA and Target, then starts for a maddening commute to work again in the morning. His coworkers in the cube farm are an annoying lot, his boss is a snide, patronizing jerk, and his days are consumed with tedium. In desperation, he turns to career hypnotherapy, but when his hypno-induced relaxation takes hold, there's no shutting it off. Layoffs are in the air at his corporation, and with two coworkers (both of whom are slated for the chute) he devises a scheme to skim funds from company accounts. The scheme soon snowballs, however, throwing the three into a panic until the unexpected happens and saves the day. Director Mike Judge has come up with a spot-on look at work in corporate America circa 1999. With well-drawn characters and situations instantly familiar to the white-collar milieu, he captures the joylessness of many a cube denizen's work life to a T. Jennifer Aniston plays Peter's love interest, a waitress at Chotchkie's, a generic beer-and-burger joint à la Chili's, and Diedrich Bader (The Drew Carey Show) has a minor but hilarious turn as Peter's mustached, long-haired, drywall-installin' neighbor. --Jerry Renshaw
Description
Unable to endure another mind-numbing day at Initech Corporation, cubicle slave Peter Gibbons (Ron Livingston) gets fired up and decides to get fired. Armed with a leisurely new attitude and a sexy new girlfriend (Jennifer Aniston), he soon masters the art of neglecting his work, which quickly propels him into the ranks of upper management! Now the stage is set for Peter to carry out a high-tech embezzling scheme that's sure to mean the end of his job and a one-way ticket to easy street. Can he pull it off before all corporate hell breaks loose?
Customer Reviews:
This Movie is Hilarious!!!.......2007-09-13
This movie is so funny, my husband and I can't get enough of it. This is not one for kids to watch with lots of bad language and rap songs in this movie. A lot of the business aspects of this movie you can relate in some way or another. I highly recommend this movie if you want a good laugh!
One of the Classics.......2007-09-03
This is in my top 5 movies of all time. My other favorites include Monty Python The Holy Grail, and Dumb and Dumber.
Absolutly pure genius.......2007-08-27
This has been a favorite of mine for a while, if you havn't seen it then treat yourself, if you have then you know what I mean!
realistically funny for the office worker.......2007-08-23
This movie is hilarious.... I thought it was amazing as I watched it in college; however now that I have a full-time job, the funny parts of this movie are things I encounter on a day-to-day basis.
A timeless movie that (frighteningly) will never grow old.......2007-08-22
As long as corporate America insists on treating people like farm animals or widgits, Office Space is going to hit home on several levels: It is a wickedly funny parody of life as a Cube Farm inhabitant; it is dead-on in all the silly and ultimately pointless exercises that upper management goes through to justify itself; and it caters to every worker's fantasy of some day Stickin' it to The Man.
There are numerous weirdly comical moments, as when the lead character, Peter Gibbons, is reclaiming his life and his sanity at the office while a rap song about "it's good to be a gangster" booms in the background; and the hysterical juxtaposition of white, straight-arrow geek programmer Michael Bolton swaying in his car to some truly off-color rap lyrics. The mumbling, goggle-eyed character Milton Waddams (EVERY office has one, you know it does) almost steals the whole show with his obsessiveness about his red Swingline stapler.
I have worked with many of the characters in this movie, and only wish that, like Peter, I had recognized far earlier in my "career" that people are not meant to live in fabric-lined enclosures and fret over things like mission statements and TPS reports.
Although the movie is a bit dated now in terms of how people dress, etc., and the rap songs in the soundtrack might be offensive to some, Office Space is a movie you will want to watch several times, so you can absorb all of the lessons it has to offer.
Product Description
Stephen Chow (director and star of Shaolin Soccer) is at it again with his newest action-packed and comedic martial-arts adventure, Kung Fu Hustle. From wildly imaginative kung fu showdowns to dance sequences featuring tuxedoed mobsters, you've never seen action this outrageous and characters this zany! With jaw-dropping fight sequences by Yuen Wo Ping (famed action choreographer of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and The Matrix), Kung Fu Hustle will blow you away! In a town ruled by the Axe Gang, Sing (Stephen Chow) desperately wants to become a member. He stumbles into a slum ruled by eccentric landlords who turn out to be kung fu masters in disguise. Sing's actions eventually cause the Axe Gang and the slumlords to engage in an explosive kung fu battle. Only one side will win and only one hero will emerge as the greatest kung fu master of all.
Customer Reviews:
Great movie, average HD performance.......2007-09-05
I love this movie, but it doesn't seem like it looks significantly better than it did on DVD. Worth having if you don't already own it on DVD.
good video, great audio.......2007-08-12
This disk has very good (above average) video transfer, but what really shines is its Chinese uncompressed PCM audio track. After watching the movie, I long for Chinese traditional music on blu-ray. Listen to the full sound track of "Ambush From All/Ten Sides" in uncompressed PCM will be heavenly.
Movie-wise, I like the art directions and the special effects. But some of the actors appear to be rather wooden (the barber and Chow's pal, for example). I also found this movie isn't as funny as I hoped it to be.
Blu-ray Goodness.......2007-05-15
I've got this movie on DVD, UMD, and now Blu-ray. I'll leave IMDB to tell you about the movie.
I don't have an HD TV (don't ask), so I can't really comment on the picture quality. I'm not an audiophile, so I can't really comment on the sound quality (although on DD5.1 it sounds just fine).
Go ahead and pick it up!!
Great Comedy Action Movie.......2007-05-12
This is definitely one of the better action movies I have seen in a long time. The comedy in the movie is also worth a watch. Stephen Chow tells a great story with absolutely amazing special effects. I have watched this movie many times and watching it on Blu-Ray is an experience in itself.
From the opening sequence, you are drawn to the plot and Stephen's portrayal of his character is first-class. His tribute to Bruce lee is evident throughout the film.
This is definitely a MUST WATCH for all!
great addition to my blu-ray collection.......2007-03-18
Didn't expect much from single layer 25 gig mpeg-2 with extras, but I was totally impressed w/ the transfer. Great movie to add to my ever growing collection.

The Kung Fu Book of Caine: The Complete Guide to Tv's First Mystical Eastern Western
ASIN: B00013F38K
Release Date: 2004-03-16 |
Amazon.com
Everybody was kung-fu fighting after the 1972 premiere of this mystic western starring David Carradine (snatching the role from Bruce Lee) in his signature, Emmy-nominated role as Caine, a stoic Shaolin monk forced to flee China after killing the royal family member who slew his Master. Our wandering hero roams the west in search of his long-lost brother, while eluding American and Imperial bounty hunters, and imparting his ancient wisdom on those he encounters and is compelled to aid. Kung-Fu was never a ratings force, but its cult status was assured long before Samuel L. Jackson referenced it in Pulp Fiction. Along with the inaugural 15 episodes, this three-disc set contains the feature-length pilot that establishes the series' iconography: the inscrutable aphorisms ("When you cease to strive to understand, then you will know without understanding"); the flashbacks to Caine's youth, where the orphaned half-American and half-Chinese boy served as disciple ("Grasshopper") to the Old Man; and, of course, the anticipated moments when the peaceful Caine, like Billy Jack, is reluctantly compelled by some frontier bigot to use his fighting skills. Look for appearances by father John Carradine and brothers Keith and Robert in the episode, "Dark Angel." That's 11-year-old future Oscar-winner Jodie Foster in "Althea." Other notable episodes include the Emmy-winning "An Eye for an Eye" and "Chains," featuring an Emmy-nominated turn by Michael Greene as a not-so-gentle giant to whom an imprisoned Caine is chained. "With each ending," Caine observes in the episode, "The Third Man," comes a new beginning." Kung Fu's new beginning comes on DVD. Thanks to the timeless frontier setting and the uniqueness of its genre-bending concept, Kung Fu dates better than other '70s series. As these episodes demonstrate, the show still has plenty of kick. --Donald Liebenson
Description
He is a man of peace in a violent land. He is Kwai Chang Caine, schooled in the spirit-mind-body ways of the Shaolin priesthood by the blind, avuncular Master Po and the stern yet loving master Kan. Caine speaks softly but hits hard. He lives humbly yet knows great contentment. He is the Old West's most unusual hero. But hero is not a word Caine would use. He would simply say, "I am a man."

Kung Fu.......2007-07-05
I bought it for my boyfriend and he watched it afew times now. It was one of his favorite gifts.
A classic that never dies.......2007-05-18
This series started and ended before I was born but over the years I was able to catch a few of the episodes, mostly I was able to watch Kung-Fu, the Legend Continues which was good but I'm happy that I am now able to get all three seasons and watch all of the classic episodes whenever I want.
Kung Fu (the complete first season).......2007-05-09
I bought this set from LAvideo. save your money and do not buy from this vendor. Of the three DVD set I received two number two DVDs and no first DVD. I wrote several emails to the vendor and did not receive any reply. I have returned the product and have yet to receive a refund.
A Must Have for the Kung Fu Disciple.......2007-03-24
I've always enjoyed this TV series. Watched it with my family in the 70's, and re-kindled my interest watching it with my dorm-mates in college. I've got my own kids now, and so far they've resisted my efforts to have them watch with me...but who cares, I'm enjoying the heck out of these DVD's (a great alternative to the junk on late-night TV when I typically watch).
I FORGOT HOW MUCH I ENJOY THIS SHOW!.......2007-03-13
I have been working my way through the first season and am really enjoying it. The first season set includes the pilot film and some cool extras. The transfers to DVD are very good.

While it may not rank with Richard Kimble's fateful meeting with the One-Armed Man in the series finale of The Fugitive, Caine's reunion with his long-lost brother, Danny, brings Kung Fu, to quote the title of the four-episode story arc's conclusion, "Full Circle." The series' rich iconography and episodes featuring returning characters may make this final season heady going for newcomers. But those who have faithfully followed Caine (David Carradine in his iconic role) on his nomadic adventures will be richly rewarded with some of the series' best episodes. The season begins with a stellar two-parter, "Blood of the Dragon," in which Caine seeks the truth about his grandfather's murder, while Imperial assassins are dispatched to kill Caine. The venerable Patricia Neal guest-stars as the grandfather's iron-willed, cold-hearted former lover. Eddie Albert also stars as a doctor who sides with Caine. Other memorable guest stars this season include William Shatner broguing it up, Scotty-style, as a sea captain who arrives with an Imperial pardon for Caine (but at what cost?) in "A Small Beheading." Barbara Hershey portrays an aspiring Shoalin priest in the two-parter, "Besieged." In "The Brothers Caine," a pre-Airplane Leslie Nielsen is a ruthless magnate who puts a $10,000 price on Danny's head, making for an awkward reunion when Danny thinks that Caine is a bounty hunter. David's father, John, returns as blind preacher Serenity Johnson in "Ambush."
This season was distinguished by innovative episodes set in China during Caine's "Grasshopper" tutelage. In "The Demon God," the youth, poisoned by a prince, experiences mystical visions of his older, wandering self, who is stung by a scorpion. In "The Thief of Chendo," young Caine's Master imagines an adventure for the aspiring priest. Two Carradine commentaries, and a near-hour long chronicle of Carradine's 30-years-on visit to a Shoalin monastery in China (an incredible journey that ends with Carradine's soulful rendition of "America the Beautiful") help to give Kung Fu a worthy DVD send-off. --Donald Liebenson

Favourite TV Show.......2007-07-13
I recommend buying series three and thank the creators of Kung Fu for the best television show of all time.
Kung-Fu; The Series; Season 2.......2007-06-09
I was extremely pleased. The product arrived quickly, and it was exactly what I had hoped for. I never realized that I had missed so many of the original episodes until I watched the DVD's.
WITH EACH SEASON COMES CHANGE!.......2007-04-19
I am a big fan of this show and when I started watching the DVD's of the series, I remembered every episode in season 1 like I saw them yesterday. When I watched season 2, I did not remember too many of the episodes, but thought the second season evolved from the first. The third season brings even more change and for the better, because in order to keep the show fresh it had to. A very rare kind of show that didn't keep doing the same thing over and over again. The episodes look very good and there are some extras to check out. If you are a fan of the series buy it.
kung fu 3 rd season .. .......2007-04-12
i wish they would put the episodes on seperate discs instead of using front and back format.
other then that its great .
glad to have this available ,why dont they make great shows like this any more ? not a curse word in the whole show.
Really nothing like it ever shown on tv.......2007-03-11
I don't know of anything like this series that was ever shown on tv before or since. Some might find the lessons trite, but if I, my son, and my wife find them very good, very appropriate. My son is 15 right now, the same age I was when the show was first on. It's not only good to see them again, but they provide opportunities to talk about principles to live by. Sorry if this sounds preachy, but there is meaning in these shows if you watch and listen.
Be well.

Amazon.com essential video
Hong Kong wuxia films, or martial arts fantasies, traditionally squeeze poor acting, slapstick humor, and silly story lines between elaborate fight scenes in which characters can literally fly. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon has no shortage of breathtaking battles, but it also has the dramatic soul of a Greek tragedy and the sweep of an epic romance. This is the work of director Ang Lee, who fell in love with movies while watching wuxia films as a youngster and made Crouching Tiger as a tribute to the form. To elevate the genre above its B-movie roots and broaden its appeal, Lee did two important things. First, he assembled an all-star lineup of talent, joining the famous Asian actors Chow Yun-fat and Michelle Yeoh with the striking, charismatic newcomer Zhang Ziyi. Behind the scenes, Lee called upon cinematographer Peter Pau (The Killer, The Bride with White Hair) and legendary fight choreographer Yuen Wo-ping, best known outside Asia for his work on The Matrix. Second, in adapting the story from a Chinese pulp-fiction novel written by Wang Du Lu, Lee focused not on the pursuit of a legendary sword known as "The Green Destiny," but instead on the struggles of his female leads against social obligation. In his hands, the requisite fight scenes become another means of expressing the individual spirits of his characters and their conflicts with society and each other.
The filming required an immense effort from all involved. Chow and Yeoh had to learn to speak Mandarin, which Lee insisted on using instead of Cantonese to achieve a more classic, lyrical feel. The astonishing battles between Jen (Zhang) and Yu Shu Lien (Yeoh) on the rooftops and Jen and Li Mu Bai (Chow) atop the branches of bamboo trees required weeks of excruciating wire and harness work (which in turn required meticulous "digital wire removal"). But the result is a seamless blend of action, romance, and social commentary in a populist film that, like its young star Zhang, soars with balletic grace and dignity. --Eugene Wei
Description
An epic set against the breathtaking landscapes of ancient China, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, combines the exhilarating martial arts choreography by Yuen Wo-Pind (The Matrix) with the sensitivity and classical storytelling of an Ang Lee film. The result is something truly unexpected: romantic, emotionally powerful entertainment.

beautiful and gravity-defying.............2007-08-12
In all honesty, it is really hard for me to review the DVD version of CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON because I believe this film is really one that you must see in the movie theater to experience the full effect of its marvelously directed splendor. Ang Lee [EAT DRINK MAN WOMAN, THE WEDDING BANQUET, SENSE AND SENSIBILITY] did a brilliant job with this modern day masterpiece. Inspired by the wuxia genre of Chinese film, we see beautiful action sequences, featuring "flying" actors and actresses [suspended from seemingly invisible wire], fighting scenes high in the canopies of trees, and even a love story. This is truly eye popping entertainment and features a wonderfully dynamic and charismatic cast (including Chow Yun Fat, Michelle Yeoh and Chang Cheng). CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON began a tidal wave of wuxia style film releases in the United States--including THE HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS. For me, this was the best film of its kind and I am so glad that I saw it! I just hope that they re-release this film on the big screen, so, more people can come to appreciate the fine attention to detail and seamless direction that went into making it so extraordinary.
I don't remember much.......2007-07-12
I don't remember much but I remember thanking the person who recommended that I see this film and I loved the scene with the woman jumping from house to house. It was awesome.
Best Martial Arts Film Ever.......2007-06-22
Everything has already been said about this film, so I'll put only a short review here.
Why did I use the superlative in the title? Because it seems to be true for me. (The second place belongs to House of Flying Daggers [Region 99].) The story line is not very strong, but much better than you may see in this genre. The romantic threads do not make it too schmaltzy, and the visual design is simply excellent.
Disappointed..........2007-05-28
Although I enjoyed Michelle Yeoh and Zhang Ziyi (as always), I didn't enjoy this movie hardly at all. I couldn't believe this was the movie that got such rave reviews and was Oscar nominated etc. I don't say that foolishly, stating that I dislike the movie when really I dislike the genre. That's not it. I just much prefer films like "House of the Flying Daggers" and "Hero" to this one.
Not The Best Martial Arts Movie.......2007-04-05
the cinemotography is pretty good i this movie, but the plot was raw. This movie was okay.

Get ready for some seriously big hair. The Last Dragon--or, to call it by its full title, Berry Gordy's the Last Dragon--is a stunning example of 1980s camp cinema. One-name kung fu wonder Taimak plays Leroy Green, a.k.a. Bruce Leroy, a humble student of kung fu who has achieved the highest level of skill, but hasn't yet found his inner master. Wandering through the streets of New York in a Chinese peasant outfit, he accidentally becomes the protector of nightclub hostess/video jockey Laura Charles (played by former Prince protégé Vanity, who also costarred in the trash classic Action Jackson). She's being threatened by a height-challenged mobster who wants her to play his girlfriend's video (the girlfriend is something of a Cyndi Lauper look-alike, played by Broadway star Faith Prince). Meanwhile, a man who calls himself Sho'Nuff, the Shogun of Harlem, wants to kick Leroy's ass and prove himself the baddest kung fu master in town. Add to this Leroy's smart-mouthed brother Richie (who calls Leroy "the chocolate-covered yellow peril"), a dregs-of-Motown soundtrack (DeBarge is a high point), ninja battles, pseudo-Eastern philosophical babble, and a jaw-dropping club performance by Vanity, and you have a hilarious example of why we're all so very glad the '80s are over. Featuring a bit role by William H. Macy (Fargo, Magnolia). --Bret Fetzer

One to Remember..........2007-09-04
I remember when this movie hit the theaters. It was 1985 and instantly this movie became one of my childhood favorites. Although, this movie wasn't academy awarding winning material it did leave a long lasting impression on many. The movie covered romance, drama, comedy, and action. I wouldn't say that Taimak and Vanity were the best of actors at the time, but Taimak instantly became every teenaged girl's fantasy as did Vanity for every teenaged boy.
This film was one of the movies that began the spoof era. It's just one of those films because it wasn't award winning and it was a predominately African American movie, you couldn't help but support it. This movie came along when blaxploitation films had fated, but right before inner city hood movies were the rave (i.e. Boys in the Hood, Menace II Society, and Dead Presidents). We fell in love with this movie, Krush Groove, and Breakin' because it was about the black man underdogs and how they overcame their challenges.
Kung Fu for the Ghetto!!!.......2007-08-13
Great pop culture classic. If your into "TRUE" hip-hop, then you'll definitely appreciate this movie.
"You are the last dragon. You posses the power of the glow.".......2007-08-04
Even though this movie might be cheesy compared to the movies that come out now, this is still a classic martial arts film...If you are a fan of karate movies and you haven't seen this one, then you are missing out...I love how they even pay a tribute to the best karate movie ever made "Enter The Dragon" when a fight between Sho' Nuff and other people breaks out in a movie theater and they are playing that movie in the background...
Cheesy Cult Classic.......2007-07-16
But great! For an at-home double feature, pair it up with Caveman (w/Ringo Starr).
Great Nostalgia!.......2007-07-16
This movie is a classic, it really took me back, and it was just as good as before.

Kung Fu - the Complete Second Season.......2007-06-09
DVD's arrived quickly and were in perfect condition. I'm still catching up on all the episodes I never knew I missed. A great product.
AS GOOD AS THE FIRST SEASON IF NOT BETTER.......2007-03-20
The episodes in season two look better than season one and now Caine is not being hunted by bounty hunters in every episode......Not that I mind watching him KICK some greedy ignorant dirtbag ***! The extras are interesting on this set too, with some funny commentary by the man who made the series what it was. I'm looking forward to watching the third and final season.
Pt. 2: 'Kung Fu' and Race: Another Take.......2007-03-07
Ideally, an Asian or Asian American actor, instead of David Carradine, should have played the lead role of Kwai-Chang Caine in "Kung Fu." Why do I say this? Because ethnically Asian actors do not have equal opportunities to play lead roles in the U.S. entertainment industry, and the part of Caine was a rare Asian main character in Hollywood. But "Kung Fu" has so many other positive and excellent qualities that I am willing not to let the perfect become the enemy of the good.
According to the first-season DVD's "making-of" documentary, the creators behind "Kung Fu" at least *considered* a number of Asian actors -- including martial-arts exemplar Bruce Lee -- for the lead role, and the character's mixed racial heritage was germane to the story. On both points, I cannot say the same for the Broadway musical "Miss Saigon" (1991-2001), another high-profile work whose Asian male lead went to a Caucasian actor. I'm willing to believe that at the time "Kung Fu" was made in the 1970s, there weren't enough Asian actors in Hollywood's talent pool to choose from. (I say this because many of the same Asian guest stars keep cropping up as different characters on the show: James Hong, Benson Fong, Richard Loo, Clyde Kusatsu, etc.) I'm confident that the situation is different today.
Also, I see Carradine's wonderfully understated performance as Caine to be a transition of sorts. Prior to "Kung Fu," American audiences still saw white actors in heavy Asian make-up, and with caricatured Asian mannerisms, as acceptable. A mere decade before "Kung Fu," Mickey Rooney went uncriticized for his cringe-inducing grotesquerie of Mr. Yunioshi in "Breakfast at Tiffany's" (1962). We can breathe a sigh of relief because "Kung Fu" (1) cast a Caucasian actor whose natural appearance was believably half-Asian and did not need heavy cosmetics; (2) does not require Caine to affect an artificial "foreign" accent; (3) allows Caine to speak in complete sentences instead of the fractured pidgin gibberish common to Hollywood's Asian characters at the time. In today's entertainment industry, if casting white actors in Asian roles -- a practice dubbed "yellowface" by its critics -- isn't exactly prohibited, Hollywood has made important progress in recognizing the custom to be at least problematic.
The DVD's documentary seems tacitly designed to deny the rumor that Bruce Lee initiated the concept that eventually became "Kung Fu," giving creative credit instead to New York writer Ed Spielman. But many Lee fans insist to this day that their idol came up with the idea for "Kung Fu" and was robbed of the role of Caine by the Hollywood honchos who took over his property. I'm willing to believe this version of events, but I haven't been persuaded yet. However, the very existence of this story, true or untrue, speaks volumes about the "Enter the Dragon" star's enormous iconic stature. In many situations when I bring up the TV series "Kung Fu" to others, it's not long before I hear something like, "Didn't Bruce Lee have something to do with that show?"
To me, the true tragedy is *not* that Lee lost the role of Caine, but that his death at age 32 was so untimely. Had he lived, Lee's career post-"Enter the Dragon" would surely have surpassed Carradine's career post-"Kung Fu," relegating the martial artist's involvement or non-involvement in the TV show to a trivial footnote in his biography. With his ghost continuing to haunt a series that he officially had little connection to, I think that Bruce Lee is having the last laugh.
(Note: I have also written reviews for the first and third seasons of "Kung Fu.")
kung fu second season.......2007-02-23
The dvd's were very good and as advertised. Soon I will buy the third season as well.

A pure old-school martial arts movie, beloved by aficionados, that also appeals to nonfans simply as a rousing action film. The often-imitated fact-based plot (see The Karate Kid) centers upon the rigorous training process undergone in the mid-19th century by the anti-Manchu Chinese patriot San Te (Gordon Liu). It's depicted as a grueling voyage into the unknown. Cast out of his home village when he stands up to the cruel warlord (Lo Lieh) who slaughtered his parents, the refugee seeks out the martial monks of the Shaolin Temple, who steer him through a torturous series of "chambers"--horrendous ordeals designed to build strength and agility--before he's even allowed to study boxing or swordfighting. Finally he defeats a rival by inventing a brand-new weapon, the three-section chain-linked staff. But innovation can be carried only so far; when San Te suggests opening a "36th chamber" in the temple that would teach Shaolin techniques to the populace at large (so that they can fight the nasty Manchus) he is drummed out of the corps. Naturally he returns to his home village, slaughters the baddies, and prepares to open China's first public Shaolin-style kung fu school. Many of the pupils San Te recruits in the final reel became legendary martial artists in their own right, the "Fathers of the Church" of the Chinese kung fu tradition. This is strong action entertainment with real historical resonance. --David Chute
Description
(Action) A young man on a mission of vengeance trains at Shaolin Temple to become a kung fu master, evolving into the legendary monk San Te (Gordon Liu), who introduces Shaolin kung fu to oppressed Chinese.
Customer Reviews:
A definitive staple of Kung Fu cinema gets the DVD it rightfully deserves!.......2007-09-12
Dragon Dynasty has been releasing lots of great martial arts films uncut and polished up lovely with great extra features... and was there any more deserving out there than this!? The fantastic journey of an ordinary student who loses everything and seeks out the Kung Fu training attainable only at the Shaolin Temple. After the setup it's train, train, and train some more through the different chambers of Shaolin, which tests everything from your skill with a staff to your ability to strike heavy bags with your head to how quick your eyes can follow an object (plus LOTS more). Gordon Liu is great as this is the role that he was obviously born to play and one of the factors that make this Lau Kar-Leung movie the classic it is. Though mostly a training film there are some great fights here including an enjoyable (although one-sided) finale versus the one and only Lo Lieh! Another joy is watching Liu master the 3-section-staff especially in his first fight against a fellow monk with double knives (brilliantly performed by Lee Hoi-San). For martial arts fans it's officially time to throw out those janky bootleg quality copies that we were forced to endure for so long and put this version right at the head of your collection... where it deserves to be.
It's the duty of Shaolin to vanquish evil.......2007-08-18
San Te is a student that finds himself rallying behind his teacher in resistance to the Manchu government. When many of his friends and family die as a result of the government's ruthless tactics San Te tries to become a Shaolin monk in order to learn Kung Fu in order to gain revenge on the Manchu officials.
36th Chamber is a brilliant martial arts film. It is artfully directed and edited and endlessly entertaining containing some of the most interesting "training scenes" that I have seen in a martial arts film, or any film for that matter. The fight choreography is almost completely flawless throughout and each fight seems to tell a story or have a purpose in the overall narrative. There isn't fighting for fightings sake. While that may sounds like a drawback it certainly isn't. Also, while seemingly a revenge flick 36th Chamber is more about the power of learning and teaching. The vast majority of the film contains some element of teaching or implementing teachings in one form or another.
The brilliance of the directing and editing is that one San Te starts learning to become a Shaolin monk he has to pass 35 Chambers to do so. Now obviously showing all 35 Chambers on film in their entirety would probably make for an exorbitantly long film here the first 6 or so chambers are focused on showing San Ta's tackling of the "easiest" of the chambers to increase his strength and dexterity. The later chambers are handled more quickly and the process of each is shown through other character enduring the tests while San Te is shown to be mastering them. Seen in its entirety this entire section of film is quite brilliantly directed and edited. In addition, later when San Te exhibits the different things he has learned in his fights it is down without a "remember that?" type flash back like other films have done. The film assumes we are smart enough to remember or merely uses similar camera cuts and angles from the training sequences to aid in recall.
I really can't recommend this film enough.
Fight'n the Man.......2007-07-26
Hands down one of the best old school kung fu movies ever made. The acting is good (except for the main villian, but he is rarley seen) for a kung fu movie and if you ever wanted to know how to start a popular uprising, this is the standard template. If you are a martial artist, this movie is great for getting the juices going, if your not one, you might start taking lessions!
kong fu fans will love this.......2007-07-20
this is a classic movie, thoroughly enjoyable for kongfu fans. lovingly transferred to dvd, good production qualities. the training scenes are memorable, there is enough humor in it to sustain a good time, and the fight scenes are creative, fast, and well choreographed.
Review.......2007-07-17
This movie is what made watching saturday afternoon kung fu flicks as a child enjoyable. The movie has held up pretty good and the dvd transfer is very clean. The only knock on the dvd is the subtitles which are often mispelled, but not enough to detract from reading and watching the film at the same time. I only saw the movie once as a child, but it obviously made an impression. A great martial art film to add to any movie collection.

Twenty years before the Farrelly Brothers turned raunch into acceptable film comedy, the team of David Zucker, Jim Abrahams, and Jerry Zucker exploited it first. The college threesome made it big with Airplane! in 1980, but this 1977 cinematic version of their live theater show is ground zero for their talents. Like The Groove Tube, Kentucky Fried Movie is a mishmash of sketches, fake commercials, and parodies with no central theme--except their crudeness and laugh-out-loud humor. Highlights include a commercial for "Scot Free," a board game based on the Kennedy assassination conspiracy, "The Wonderful World of Sex," in which a couple goes through foreplay with a self- help narrator instructing them step by step, and a 20-minute spoof of Bruce Lee films entitled "A Fistful of Yen." Brazen to a fault, the movie will reach for any punch line, no matter how crude (and those who flocked to the film's initial release looking for R-rated sex will remember the final sketch and the infamous trailer for "Catholic High School Girls in Trouble.") Directed by then-unknown John Landis on a shoestring budget, the film has aged. But crassness, when it's this funny, is forever. --Doug Thomas
Description
From the director of Animal House and the creators of Airplane and The Naked Gun comes the original madcap, most out-of-control spoof of all time. The one that started it all!! The Kentucky Fried Movie!
Featuring a cast of more than a few but less than a lot, this insane collection of comedy skits includes such now famous sketches as the Kung-Fu parody, "A Fistful of Yen", and the legendary "Catholic School Girls in Trouble." Enjoy the future of moviegoing with the "Feel-A-Round" theater experience. See notable and highly respected actor Donald Sutherland as the clumsiest waiter in motion picutre history. Directed by John Landis and written by Jim Abrahams, David Zucker, and Jerry Zucker, and featuring appearances by ex-James Bond George Lazenby and The Incredible Hulk star Bill Bixby, The Kentucky Fried Movie is the cult classic you've been waiting for! It's a virtual guarantee (not an actual guarantee) that you will not find another film iwth as many side- splitting moments of pure unadulterated hilarity as The Kentucky Fried Movie.
Customer Reviews:
Raunchy and funny!!!!.......2007-06-28
The _Kentucky Fried Movie_ was created by the same crew who would later make the movie _Airplane_, and if you like _Airplane_'s screwball humor, you'll like _Kentuck Fried Movie_.
The one caveat is that _Kentucky Fried Movie_ is much raunchier than _Airplane_. The cover art is a bit innocuous, so be warned if there's kids in the room.
As long as you're okay with that, be prepared for a wild ride! I've never seen any other movie that does so deftly combines slapstick physical comedy (like the usher in the cinema skit) with fairly sophisticated dry humor (the parody of talk shows and Jacque Cousteau), social parody ("AM Today" and the intermittent news flashes), and fairly explicit sexual humor.
In addition to regular skits, there are also a number of spoof movie previews, like "Catholic High School Girls in Trouble" and "That's Armageddon!", that make the movie worth seeing all by itself.
I've yet to recommend this to someone and have a bad reaction, but I'm also pretty careful to only recommend it to people who won't be easily offended. But as long as you're not a prude, _Kentucky Fried Movie_ should have SOMETHING that you'll like!
Painfully boring.......2007-06-04
This movie is so un-funny I can't even force myself to watch it. I wonder if there was any humor AT ALL in this disaster of a movie...
Great!.......2007-04-10
I've been looking for this film for quit a long time, but I am very satisfied that i was able to buy it on Amazon. The price was as low as at any major retailer and the movie plays great! Thank you very much.
Kentucky Fried Idiots.......2007-03-19
This movie is so stupid it is funny. I saw it when it first came out and I still haven't forgotten it nor will I ever. This is what the writers of the Groove Tube, Saturday Night Live, and Second City Television are all about. Watch this film and see a true comedy classic. Individual skits like "Catholic High School Girls in Trouble" could have been made into a full length movie all to itself. It was an era where one didn't have to be politically correct. This is what comedy is all about. See Kentucky Fried Movie and you will see what comedy is suppose to be or what it once was. Oh, by the way, Stephen Bishop also has a cameo role in this film and he isn't singing "On and On".
Unforgettable.......2007-03-12
So here's the scene: a fiftysomething couple invites an old friend over for a weekend dinner and, in a very mellow mood, asks for suggestions of what to watch afterward. The guest says to the host (apropos the great dinner), "You have my gratitude."
Immediately references are knowingly exchanged from "A Fistful of Yen," one of the movies-within-a-movie of "Kentucky Fried Movie." We find the film somehow (a really bad VHS dub) and watch it, the laughter not stopping for anything.
This movie was brilliantly conceived, reasonably well-executed and ruthlessly original. We found ourselves saying over and over again, "You could not do THAT bit today..."
Are parts of it stupid and tasteless? Yes, and that's all part of this film's innate charm.
It made for a wonderful evening, and we had to get the better-quality DVD version ASAP. It's great being fiftysomething!

The way it was meant to see.......2007-08-21
I'm so glad this flick came out on Blu ray disc. The picture is better than ever and it's mixed in 5.1 surround. A masterpiece in it's own right, Bruce Lee delivers his most personal film. Loaded with bonus features(over 3.5 hours worth). This film deserves repeated viewings and the bonus material is actually worth watching. Well worth the price of admission!
Bruce Li makes the film his own.......2007-08-21
Although the movie is dated due to technology and the standard story, Bruce Li always makes the film fun to watch. The extras on the dvd make the blu-ray version worth the money. If you are a fan of Bruce Li you must get this dvd, and the picture quality is great for big screens.
Bruce Lee at his best.......2007-08-08
I have to say that this is the best looking version of Enter the Dragon available. Picture quality is great looking and is probably good as its going to get. Just don't expect this movie to look as crystal clear as the newer movies. Enter the Dragon is a 34 year old movie so don't demand High definition perfection. Sound quality is very nice with a noticeable improvement over the standard DVD. I am a big Bruce Lee fan and Enter the Dragon along with the many special features included in this Blu-ray DVD are a true treasure. There are interviews with Bruce, film footage from "Game of Death", and many other interesting features. Even though Enter the Dragon is a 34 year old movie its still better than the current action films of today. Had Bruce Lee lived I believe he would still be making great movies today. If you own a Blu-ray player or your a fan of Bruce Lee buy this movie today. May you rest in peace Bruce knowing that your family, friends, many devoted students, and fans miss you everyday.
Amazing how good it looks.......2007-08-03
I recently watched Enter The Dragon on the Voom HD Kung-Fu network, and it looked relatively good, but not great.
The Blu-Ray version obviously got a lot more attention, care, and cleanup. It is by far the best looking and sounding version I've ever seen of the movie. It sounds like the bass was tweaked quite a bit, because whenever Bruce would hit one of his signature punches, my subwoofer put out one heck of a thump. It sounded great, if not a little over the top.
Some of the signature grain of the original is still there, but the images are much more crisp and sharp than any other version.
Definitely worth it for the Bruce Lee fans out there.
Boards do not hit back!.......2007-06-27
This was a true treat! I'm a huge Bruce Lee fan and this is the best I've ever seen him! Blu-Ray HD truly did this timeless classic justice!
