Shaolin Kids.......2006-02-14
This movie is very good, I bought a copy from a different website where it was titled, "Shaolin Kids." It is a bit slow to pick up, and sadly Carter Wong only has one fight that is sorely dissapointing. He still plays a classic part with a beard and mustache, but Polly is the main character and most of the fights are sadly carter-wong less. If you want Carter Wong and Polly try the First 18 Bronzemen, or for an awsome movie with Carter Wong + Casanova Wong, try The Legendary Strike.

THIS IS A GOOD MOVIE THAT I WAITED SEVERAL YEARS TO COME OUT IN THE U.S.... I FIRST SAW IT BACK IN 1985 WHILE LIVING IN OKINAWA. SO AFTER 20 YEARS I FINALLY GET A COPY AND TO MY SURPRISE IT DOESNT WORK ...LOL... IF U CAN VERIFY WITH THE SENDER THAT IT WORKS BEFORE THEY SHIP I WOULD DEFFINATELY PICK THIS ONE UP... ILL KEEP TRYING UNTIL I GET ONE THAT WORKS, BUT IN THE MEANTIME I WILL PRAY IT WORKS ...LOL... I BELIEVE THEY IMPORTED A BAD BATCH OVER HERE TO THE U.S., THERES PROBABLY GOING TO BE ALOT OF RETURNS, UNTIL THEY SORT OUT THE BAD ONES.

...that the damn thing plays. I've gotten two different copies and neither is functional. Why? Because this is a cheap, two-sided piece of crap that was probably done on someone's computer DVD burner. Every time I've tried to watch the thing, all I've gotten is a "please check disc" message on the screen.
"Shaolin Death Squad", the film itself, is fine; it's an action-packed period piece in imitation of the classic Shaw Brothers movies, full of familiar faces(Polly Shang Kwan, Carter Wong, Chang Yi, Cliff Lok). Luckily I saw the movie on VHS years ago, because I sure as hell can't see it on this DVD! The company could have just left the Shaolin kung-fu demonstration off the second side and given us a DVD that we could actually WATCH. My true rating: zero stars.

Old Skool Kung Fu!!.......2006-07-13
I though this flick was just o.k,,,,,I'm not sure about a 5 star,,,as is claimed by the previous reviewer!! The dvd transfer is not the greatest, the choreography is accepatble, however, the plot I though was very impressive,,as the previous reviewer quote ' AMBITIOUS",,I duly agree!! Definately a good movie to check out,,,see Carter Wong performed brilliantly!!
Kung-fu fun!.......2002-03-12
Cowboys vs. Indians, - ehr, well Shaolin vs. Manchus. Manchu emperor
destroys Shaolin Temple - surviving monks seek revenge.
Predictable, but well produced. Cinematically nice scenes of destruction
(good special effects), and good figthing choreography. Definitely one of the
better kung-fu movies.
Good DVD quality, too. Clean film transfer, nice bright colors, good sountrack
(chinese/mandarin), choice of subtitles (english, traditional chinese,
simplified chinese).
Good all around kung-fu fun!

WU TANG CLAN.......2005-05-17
Oh man, where do I start?
The quality is the absolute worst I've ever seen... even for a Kung Fu flick. Scenes are abruptly cut, it's WAY too blurry, the audio quality is horrible... I couldn't even make out a basic plot because everytime people would talk, the scene would cut to some horrid fight scene. And believe me, the fight scenes are HORRIBLE.
This movie is the ultimate Kung Fu laugh-fest, though. If you like to chill and dub your own Kung Fu flicks, GET THIS ONE. If you want to see a good Kung Fu flick, PASS on this one. Don't say you weren't warned...
classic martial arts flick, dreadful quality.......2004-02-09
A wonderful HK classic with plenty of well choreographed fights, and even a meningful plot (well, by HK standards). The story follows a former Shaolin student, turned Ching -- Marshall Kao, who is forced to eradicate the very temple that once harbored him, and thus to betray his own btothers, who are initilally incredulous of Kao's new allegiance. Torn between his loyalty and his friends who have all but turned against him, Kao forges a plan to redeem himself and pays the ultimate price upon its completion.
The reason for a 3 star rating is the horrendous image quality on this DVD. I do not recall the VHS being this bad, it simply looks out of focus most of the time -- a real f%^*ing disgrace. Definitely recommend the movie, but do bring your prescription glasses as not to be completely baffled by the impressionistic DVD transfer.
one of the best kung-fu flicks ever!!!!!.......2003-01-19
this has some of the most amazing fight scenes ever, especially the last one in the prison area. the story is basic, about the shaolin temple being stopped by an emperor, in which one of the students from the temple is working for. he helps captures the students who are still alive and tortures them in the prisons for a reason (which i won't give away). definetally one of the best!!!
Who gave this the ok?!.......2002-10-19
I didn't get past 10 minutes before I had to turn this movie off! I have no idea if the movie itself is good or bad, but this transfer is absolutely horrid! It's so damn blurry you can't even make out the characters' faces! Don't even bother RENTING this abomination. Another dud stamped with wu tang's name.
weak.......2000-11-14
I might be able to enjoy this film, if it weren't so choppily-edited and badly transferred. The audio is equally horrible, occasionally blaring and then fading out altogether. Bad, bad transfer - hopefully it will get re-released in a more watchable form.

The Snake, The Crane And The Tiger........2007-05-25
I Know What You Mean 'Morgoth', I Have No Idea Why They Always Try To Rename These Classics. But, This Is The Original Name -- EMPEROR OF SHAOLIN KUNG FU...! The Other Name They Gave It Was "The Snake, The Crane and The Tiger", Which I Think Is Really Stupid. But, Watching This Flick With Its Original Title Is Only The Start Of A Magnificent Masterpiece. Lo Lieh Is Pure Sensation, And Carter Really Put Down A Stunning Performance. My Only Negative About This Film Is In The Formatting...! It Was Not Properly Formatted To Fit A TV Screen. But, It Is Truly An Amazing Piece Of Work, One Which Has Or Was Gone Unnoticed By The Great Carter Wong. Absolutely Splendid ! I Wish I Could Give It More Than A 5 Star.
This movie IS NOT directed by Lau Kar Leung!!!!!.......2006-10-15
I had to point that out after seeing this, AGAIN!!!!!!!! I don't remember the other name(s) of this movie is but it is sad that they always stupidly rename these.
Basically the plot is about a young girl who is the princess and is on the run after her father(the emperor) kills himself. She loses an arm but that doesn't stop her, well, at all from what I could tell. It is an extremely boring film all the way and after Lo Lieh's cameo as a wandering swordsman, Carter Wong FINALLY shows back up and helps the retarded sister of the princess. Carter puts on a GREAT acting performance and the final fight with the ridiculous looking baddie is just not good enough, but certainly better than the rest of the film.
The film print from Tai Seng is very bad at the start but cleans up and you are able to see the fights pretty well, at least the few fights that there are.
