A truly entertaing and thrilling ride!.......2007-08-12

Now, let me start by saying that this movie will keep you guessing about the correct meaning of the ending after the movie. What I mean by this is that the identity of the killer in this movie will still be a mystery to some.
The story is about a police officer named Nick Curran (Michael Douglas)who is investigating a murder that involved a bloody ice-pick. The suspect is a beautiful blonde woman named Catherine Tramell (Sharon Stone). She has a very dark and mysterious life and is very seductive. After a series of accusations and run-ins, the climatic end is near.
As Nick becomes more and more unstable and bent on finding the killer, he starts to wonder about all the possibilities, and more twists and turns occur.
This unrated dvd is worth at least one viewing and provides plenty of extra entertainment. A-

After years and years of hearing about this movie, I recently purchased it at a local Wal*Mart. Let me say this, do not underestimate this movie!

Although it may not be as shocking or cutting-edge as it was back in the day; this movie still provides a lot of substance from the original intention. The acting is superb. There is honest chemistry between Douglas and Stone; each play off of each other's strengths making it come off as genuine and not forced at all. The supporting characters also add essential realism and help develop the story even further. Within the characters, each has their own distinct personality and the viewer gets to know them pretty well by the end of the story. The characters are dramactic when called for, but also provide subtle comic relief when needed as well.

The directing however, is what makes this movie so well good. Everything from the script (kept relatively in its original form) all the way to the lighting and the way that affects how the viewer reacts to certain scenes. As for the nude/sex scenes; I believe they were done in a way that enhances the story and/or develops the characters further; not done just for the sake of doing them.

As I mentioned don't let this movie fool you. It is very well crafted and provides some good suspense and entertainment. After years of avoiding it, I'm glad I finally own it!

Sharon Stone is so confident in her character as Catherine Trammel in this film, and portrays some of the best sex and orgasm I've seen in a blockbuster movie before. It is fun to see all the explicit scenes of sex, nudity and violence all rolled into one movie. The story unravels with perfect rhythm, keeping your senses titillated all along the way. It is timeless in its' plot, the murder mystery that even at the end never seems to be solved completely. The viewer is left seduced, allured, and looking back on the different scenes and characters trying to figure out exactly what just happened.

Michael Douglas does a terrific job in his role as detective Nick Curran. He's on top of his game one moment, and the next completely clueless, giving in to the pleasures of drinking and smoking after months of sobriety.

"Ice pick" me, please!.......2007-03-07

Sharon Stone in one of her better roles! Her underlying coldness as Catherine Trammel surfaces between scenes where she makes you empathetic, particularly when she wants you to think she's vulnerable.

But underneath that calm and calculating mind is a suspected pathological killer and writer, plus bisexual to boot!

I enjoyed the scenes of what was suggestive of San Francisco, but have a hard time figuring how Michael Douglas' character as Nick always seems to find a convenient parking spot in front of his building! If you've ever been to the foggy city, you know that's a rare. Adding to the confusion is the scene at the dance club, which is a replica of New York's Limelight Club set in a church...what the heck is that doing is SF?

I did find the sets of Trammel's homes to be quite accurate. The Divisadero mansion is something you'd expect to find in that area. The seaside home though was actually filmed on location in Carmel, even though it was suppose to suggest Marin. Aside from that, if you didn't realize that fact, you would have never thought otherwise (except some areas of Marin are not close to water).

The ending fades that happened several times was annoying, but it did keep you guessing...was she really the murderess or not?

The Ultimate Edition that is unrated shows a tad more nudity, particularly in Michael Douglas' case, but overall adds nothing too significant to the storyline.

Wouldn't it be better to see more of Stone and the infamous interview process? That in itself is the gem of the movie.

These DVDs aren't top notch quality, but hey - they allow you to see Bruce Lee kicking butt. The sound is OK. Remember, the original Bruce Lee movies weren't all that great as far as picture and sound quality go either. I would recommend.

This is a good collection. The quality of the picture and sound are acceptable considering these movies were filmed over 30 years ago and the technology was limited. There are a few times of static or hissing during the dialog and music. The voice over dialog does not always match the closed captioning so it was better to turn off the closed captioning when watching these movies. Overall, this is a good choice.

This set is good enough. I mean, how can an old production be made to today's standards without altering the original content. Come on. This and Enter the Dragon is all I need to start with for my collection. Bruce is a legend, and to have a set like this is good enough in my opinion.

In the realm of revenge thrillers, you'd be hard pressed to find more ultra-violent vengeance and psycho thrills than in the creepy story of Oldboy. This Korean import made a pop splash at the Cannes Film Festival and during its limited theatrical run thanks to the imprimatur of Quentin Tarantino, who raved about it and its visionary director, Chan-wook Park, to anyone who would listen. It's easy to see why QT fell in love with the grindhouse attitude, fast-paced action, violent imagery, and icy-black humor, but it's a disservice to think of Oldboy as another Tarantino homage or knockoff. The darkly existential undercurrent in the themes that Oldboy traces over its life-long narrative arc is much more complex and deeply disturbing than anything of its kind. The movie's tagline is, "15 years of imprisonment... 5 days of vengeance." The imprisonee is Oh Dae-Su, an ordinary Joe who is snatched off a Seoul street corner and locked away in a dank, windowless fleabag hotel room for the aforementioned 15 years. Just as abruptly he is released, and thus the five days begin. Why did this happen to Oh Dae-Su? Ah, but that would be telling, and in fact we don't know ourselves until the final wrenching scenes.

Oldboy breaks into a classic three-act saga, the first of which details the hallucinatory period of imprisonment in which Oh Dae-Su wades from mild insanity to outright psychosis in the hands of unseen yet attentive captors. Act 2 is the revenge, when an entirely different tone takes over and Oh Dae-Su moves with single-minded purpose and clarity. It's this section that has gained the most notoriety, primarily for the claw-hammer dentistry scene, the one-man-army tracking shot, and the wriggling octopus that Oh Dae-Su consumes in a sushi bar (he's been dead so long he simply needs life back inside him in any way possible). In act 3, answers finally start to emerge and the sinister atmosphere grows even more profound--not without a healthy dose of extra bloodletting, of course. Oldboy is an undeniably poetic masterpiece of tension, fury, and dynamic craft. Ultimately, its epic cycle of tragedy is of the sort that mankind has been inflicting upon itself for all time. References to "Oldboy" abound with words such as ultra-violent and gory. And yet, in the end, the gore is psychological rather than physical (though cutting out your own tongue with scissors is an admittedly bloody feat). "Oldboy" is a film entirely in a class of its own, mixing mystery, violence, and a plot that mind-bendingly unravels to a surprising conclusion. "Oldboy" plays well, it looks great, and is satisfying at every level; plot, action, story, and twist. The helping hand lent by the New Zealand Film Unit ensures crisp cine and those jagged, snow-topped Korean hills are as sharply captured as claw-hammer dentistry or the ingestion of a live octopus. The format of this video is good, if you like poker. The three things that suck are: 1) There's a "strip or dare" feature where the girls can perform a silly dare like telling an erotic fantasy instead of stripping. 2) The MC guy is a douche, hovering over the girls saying things like "I want to see the ta-ta's." 3) As Topper astutely points out, the girls only strip down to G-strings. And they're supposed to be porn stars . . .

Super Instruction For Beginners and Advanced Players!.......2006-04-05

This 10 DVD Tennis series offers terrific insight into the game. I like Pro Jensen's teaching method of building your game from the ground up. He is always interesting and keeps your attention throughout each program. I really thought I had a decent game until I went through each of these DVDs. It was nothing but eye opening about how off my techniques really were. With the help of this set I've made numerous simple adjustments to my strokes, footwork and court strategies that have brought my game up many notches. For example the simple punch stroke as he calls it in the Volleys DVD has made me a much more consistent and accurate net player. This simple stroke keeps my ball in play where before I was constantly over swinging and hitting my Volleys out. This technique alone was worth the price of the series. I have easily come away with 5 or more game improving techniques from each DVD and when added up make for 50 plus improvements to my game. I am elated with my better play and all I can say is get the set and see for yourself how fast you can improve.

I recently received the James Jensen Pro Tennis Lessons 10 DVD Boxed Set as a Father's Day Gift and it is surely one of the best gift's I've ever received. This DVD Saved My Game!.......2005-04-14

My game was in the gutter until I discovered this great DVD. Upon just one viewing I was able to make major corrections to my Backhand, Serve and Volleys. The instruction by Pro Jensen is the best, being very to the point and easy to follow. I must say he is easier to understand than many Pros I have paid big bucks to study with. With the help of this DVD I am hitting the ball much more consistent and with greater power and top spin. A very good investment!

I have been playing tennis and buying books and videos for over the past 20 years but none of the material I have collected can compare to the teaching and techniques on the James Jensen's Pro Tennis Lessons DVD's! Everything is unbelievably well explained on the proper techniques, etc. I have his complete teaching library and refer to them regularly for keeping my game sharp and solid. I am sure everyone looking to improve their skills will benefit from James Jensen's teachings as much as I have. I highly recommend them to all tennis enthusiasts.

Fun But Game Play Is Too Quick.......2006-09-29

Beat The Intro is a fun DVD music trivia game that arrives in stores this October 24th. The single disc game includes over 3,000 questions. The questions are based on song openings, lyrics and pictures from songs and bands of the last 50 years.

The game play is fairly easy, you really don't even need to read the instructions unless you want to. It is a game that you will need your DVD remote to play. I found it much easier to play this game with my computer and a wireless external mouse. Pointing the DVD remote at the TV so much became a drag but playing the game with the mouse on the computer was a blast.

There are two main formats, a quick draw segment and a head to head format for multi-players. In the quick draw segment, you are given the opportunity to answer six questions from the decade of your choice or random. If you get one question wrong you lose--just that simple.

In the head to head format, you choose the number of players. Then you choose the decade. I believe the decades are 50s/60s, 70's, 80's and 90's/00s. I particularly played the 80s decade. In the head to head, after choosing the decade you are given a intro question about a musical artist. After choosing the correct intro, you are given various trivia questions about the artist. The winner of the head to head is whoever scores the most points.

The artists included in the game are fairly well known. I only played the 80s and the 90s/00's decades. Artists that came up in 15 minutes of game play included ABC, Katrina and the Waves, The Cars, Soft Cell, Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, A-Ha, Whitney Houston, Bobby Brown, Sheena Easton, The Clash, Madonna, and John Mayer to name a few.

The downside is I don't know if this is a fact that will be argued, it seems like several of the intros were re-recorded and sound slightly different than the original songs. I am fairly familiar with the Beyonce song "My Myself, and I," and the A-Ha song "Take On Me," and they sounded slightly different to me, it could have just been me.

It's a fun game. Game play is too quick though. There is no way to lengthen the game play. The quick draw is only six questions and it's over. A head to head game with two players can last 5-7 minutes or less.

It's a fun game though.

If you are looking for something different then this video might suit you. It is a little slow at first the but the sex and its intensity pick up at the end. The women are not top shelf but attractive. I would imagine there is better French soft core out there.
