Poor Keiichi! Living with three goddesses was tough enough--four under one roof is next to impossible. After carefully studying Skuld's shojo (girl's) manga, Peorth tries to set up all the clichés of a romantic date with Keiichi, but it devolves into a group outing that no one enjoys very much. In episode 10, Peorth tricks Keiichi into asking her to fulfill his desires and the request is recorded in Heaven. But her ruse backfires: Keiichi's greatest desire is to hear Belldandy say she loves him. Peorth eventually returns to Heaven, but it would be a gross exaggeration to say things return to anything approaching normalcy in the Morisato household. Two visitors from the past--a challenger at the automotive club and an ex-suitor of Urd's--keep things jumping, just as Ah! My Goddess fans expect. (Rated TV PG, suitable for ages 12 and older: risqué humor, comic violence, brief nudity) --Charles Solomon

As the second season of the popular romantic fantasy Ah! My Goddess begins, nearly a year has passed since Norse Goddess Belldandy came to Earth to be with kind-hearted nerd Keiichi Morisato. When she sealed away the Lord of Terror at the end of the first season, a certain amount of data got deleted in Heaven--including the contract linking her to Keiichi. To restore the missing file, he must remember the exact wording of the wish that brought them together. No soon has this problem been sorted out, then Christmas arrives. Belldandy and Keiichi search for appropriate gifts while Sayoko, the self-styled queen of the Nekomi Institute of Technology, tries to break them up. When Sayoko isn't causing problems, Belldandy's sisters Urd and Skuld and Keiichi's sister Megumi take up the slack. The filmmakers deliver the special mixture of sentimentality and slapstick that Ah! My Goddess Fans expect. (Rated TV PG, suitable for ages 12 and older: alcohol use, minor risqué and gross humor) --Charles Solomon
Description
It's been almost a year since the Goddess Belldandy came to live with college student Keiichi Morisato, and he's almost gotten up the nerve to kiss her. Unfortunately, the encounter with the Lord of Terror damaged some of Yggdrasil's systems, and the contract binding Belldandy and Keiichi is among the lost data. Christmas is coming up, and the lovebirds can only hope the information can be retrieved before The Almighty One orders Belldandy back to Heaven. Naturally Skuld and Urd try to help, but it might be better if they didn't. And worst of all, circumstances may have driven Belldandy to drink! What happens when a Goddess is (literally) drunk with power? Find out what happens next in Ah! My Goddess, Season Two.

An excellent survey indeed........2007-09-08
This first volume of the AH! My Goddess second season is a recommended pick for any library serious about anime and manga representations. It provides American audiences with the second season of the animated TV series and any library dedicated to representations of such will find this an excellent survey indeed.

SEPERATION.......2007-06-18
The computer that controls Heaven has been reset but some of its data has been corrupted or lost. Included in some of the lost data is the contract between Keiichi and Belldandy. Keiichi soon gets a call from God telling him that he and Belldandy don't have that much time left together. The two lovers accept their fate but Urd and Skuld aren't about to let it happen without a fight. They busily set about retrieving the fragements of the contract still left in the heavenly database. The main antagonist in these first episodes is not a demon or other supernatural being, but Sayoko, the spoiled rich queen of Keiichi's college campus. For the life of her, she can't figure out why Keiichi prefers Belldandy over her. I mean, she's got looks, money, and popularity. Unfortunately for her, she's going to find out that these things alone cannot attract a good man. In fact, she's extremely jealous of Belldandy and probably harbors an attraction for Keiichi that she would never admit to herself. When Belldandy knits a sweater for Keiichi, Sayoko goes nuts trying to outdo her. When Sayoko holds a Christmas party, one of her objectives is to outshine and publicly humiliate Belldandy. Sayoko is beginning to realize what it is she's missing: innate kindness. But due to being around Keiichi and Belldandy, she still has a chance to change.
If you can get through one of the most horrible anime theme songs ever recorded in the opening credits of this second season, you'll be gladly surprised that the quality of the show itself hasn't decreased at all. There's just something about Belldandy blowing on bagpipes that grates on the nerves. I really like the fact that Sayoko's character is getting more screen time and is being allowed to evolve. In the first season she was portrayed as a shallow, vacuous shell of a woman, much like Paris Hilton. But in these episodes she attains some depth and gets a bit of enlightenment about facets of her own personality that threaten to ruin her life. The comedy bits were just as funny as usual and Belldandy even lets her hair down when she gets drunk on cola and starts doing rampant acts of goodness! If you liked the first season, definitely continue with the second season.
Looking Forward to the second season.......2007-06-12
What a great start to a second season. I can't wait to gett all of the series
Season 2 better than frist.......2007-06-11
It's as if they went back to OVA saw why we love it so much. The gentile love story is back in season 2 and I am happy to see it. Ah My Goddess was my reintroduction to amine after years away and I have always love it.
get the TV season 2 thee won't be dispointed!
Great Comeback.......2007-05-30
The story picks up where it left off in season one after the Lord of Terror wreaked havoc in Keichi's hometown. After the LOT's defeat it's aftermath affected Keichi's contract with Belldandy (the contract became deleted) so in order for Belldandy to stay with Keichi, Keichi must remember exactly what he said when he first met Bell in order to activate the contract. if not, Belldandy will be forced to take the stairway to heaven and stay there forever.
Ep 2: 'Tis the reason for the season to celebrate!...except for Sayoko, whose reputation for campus queen recedes her rivalry with Belldandy. Being the daughter of a very wealthy CEO, Sayoko is often the center of attention, especially with the hopeful bachelors that often shower her with lavish and expensive gifts in order to date her. Frustrated and irritated with the goddesses, who show her that money can't buy everything, she sets her sights on Keichi in order to make the holidays a bit less painful, instead she gets to experience Keichi's unique ability to put his foot in his mouth and act like nothing happened. Amazing. Oh, and Belldandy makes something for Keichi for Christmas, to show her feelings for him, but it goes missing and it's up to Belldandy to find out who the culprit is and return it in time to surprise Keichi before the day ends.
Ep 3: Keichi wants to return the favor to Belldandy by giving her a ring for Christmas, but he's broke and the gift that he wants to give her costs $2000 bucks. With Christmas only 3 days away, watch how he manages to get the money (with some divine intervention) and surprise belldandy before deadline. Special guests include Sayoko and Hijiri. Will Keichi get the ring? and will the ring rule them all? watch and see...
Ep 4: Keichi and Belldandy receive an invitation from Sayoko to attend her party in her lavish mansion with the most powerful members of the Mishima group, pretty harmless, right?...WRONG! Keichi and the gang go to her party, and to everyone's surprise Sayoko still has a grudge with Belldandy and takes it out on her by making Bell take the spotlight on the stage in order for Sayoko to show off her talents and put Belldandy down, only to backfire on Sayoko. Hilarity ensues. Then to Keichi's surprise, even though alcohol doesn't impair Belldandy, we find out what REALLY does, it's pretty funny. It's up to Keichi to keep her out of trouble, but can he prevent Belldandy who is (literally) drunk with power from using it?
Just like season 1, season 2 is off to a slow start but it will get better as the plot differs from the manga a little bit. We'll get to meet new characters (a new goddess is one of them and one of my favorites) and revisit old ones, as well as new obstacles to Kei and Bell's relationship. Voice acting is real good, a great improvement from the 1st season. Extras include: Trailers, voice actors' comments on the first episode (really worth listening to!), textless opening and closing (for those that like to make AMV's) and character drawings.
Overall expect this season to be an exciting one. Even though the boxed set will come out later, this is something that fans of romantic comedy should not miss. And for those that downloaded the series before it even came out, shame on you!!! buy this asap. trust me you will be doing all of us a favor and encourage anime companies to come up with more great titles for everyone to enjoy. Thanks and have a good day.

Are we at war with England?.......2007-02-16
If we can rise above the transatlantic sniping, dispense with ad hominem finger-wagging over whose sense of syntax is lacking (on this site I've read as many contortions of the Queen's English from overseas as I have from the heartland), and put aside whether or not this version of 'The Pale Horse' ought to be called a movie, a television mystery-drama or Prince Albert in a can, I believe a crosscultural consensus can be reached.
Anyone who has read the book will agree that this interpretation takes license with the story. Its producers, while keeping the basic mystery intact, have chosen to alter some plot elements and retain others and, presumably as a way of tying in the setting with the period during which Christie's novel was published, tap the 1960s as a campy backdrop, all in an effort to make the whole affair hipper and more fun. The result is not in the same league with the BBC's top stock (the Roy Marsden P.D. James series, for instance, Alec Guinness's Smiley, or the playful adaptations of Christie's 'Seven Dials' or 'Evans'), but it is, if ultimately forgettable, eminently watchable. Some (myself included, granting it only a 2 1/2-star rating) may find TPH dull going-- the action is stilted, the dialog at times dim and the acting uneven-- but that's nothing to get up in arms about. After all, despite its flaws, it still prevails in quality, as do four out of five British productions, over the average American made-for-TV fare, not to mention the garbage coming out of Hollywood today.
Life is short. We're patriots and allies. Let's have a little more respect for each others' opinions, well-articulated or not.
Agatha Christies Pale Horse.......2007-01-12
One of the rare Christie stories that does not contain any of her 3 famous protagonists (Marple, Poirot, Tommy & Tuppence). However it is one of her most interesting tales. Well acted, it keeps you guessing all the way. An excellent translation of the original. A must for Christie fans.
delightful take on Christie.......2006-12-17
Having read all the other reviews, I have to agree with the British reviewers. The ones who are American, give me strength, seem to be illiterate. Nothing wrong with not liking a program, but basic English might be nice. I'm American, and I cringed while reading their attempt at an opinion.
Preposterous as the storyline is, the narrative still manages to intrigue, the characters are enjoyable if a couple are not always believable, and the keen sense of atmosphere make it a totally delightful take on the Christie mystery. I'm an Agatha Christie fan, and an avid reader of mysteries/detective stories, especially the British ones. I read The Pale Horse years ago, but don't recall the plot. So I came to this version, relatively fresh.
I'm also dedicated fan of Dalziel & Pascoe mystery series, so it was also a treat to see the delectable Detective Pascoe (Colin Buchanan) on the other side of the law, with the suitably fluffy hair of the 1960s to boot. The whole 60s-era -- memorabilia, clothes, music and other set decor-- was subtle and cleverly evoked throughout the story. When Mark Easterbrook (Buchanan) is hit on the head for the second (!) time, he staggers to his feet, and leans against a poster advertising Chuck Berry. Likewise, a Lolita movie poster decorates his studio. Hermia's clothes and fake eyelashes are a hoot, and totally in character of the aristocratic Bohemian wannabe.
All the actors were excellent, although the Chief Inspector's obtuseness was too like Inspector Japp of Poirot fame for comfort -- the actor playing the role did what he could with it. Andy Serkis of Lord of the Rings fame was a delight, and the two key female roles well played.
Altogether, a two-hour entertainment well worth the watching.

Bait and switch.......2005-03-27
At what point does a screenplay's "artistic license" exceed limits where such can be attributed to an author like Agatha Christie? This 1996 TV movie (screenplay by Alma Cullen) is titled "Agatha Christie's The Pale Horse" and subtitled "Supernatural British Mystery Classic." Contrast these two opening scenes:
FROM CHRISTIE'S 1961 NOVEL: Mark Easterbrook witnesses a hair-pulling cat-fight between one Thomasina Tuckerton and another woman. A week later he comes across a newspaper notice that Tuckerton died of natural causes. Meanwhile Father Gorman visits another dying woman losing her hair. Walking home, he stops at a local café to jot down a list of names before he forgets them. His cassock having pocket holes, he slips the list into his shoe, leaves, and is promptly murdered on the way home. Coroner Jim Corrigan and Detective Inspector Lejeune hypothesize he was killed in attempts to find that overlooked list and/or eliminate confessional and incriminating evidence of some kind. Later Mark encounters old friend Jim Corrigan. Discussing the case and the list, they note the presence of Tuckerton's name. Thus begins Mark's self-involvement and collaboration with Corrigan and other friends in this increasingly baffling series of possibly interconnected deaths.
FROM THIS 1996 TV MOVIE: Mark and girlfriend are attending a showing of Macbeth. Mark leaves early and witnesses someone brutally attacking a priest with his "borrowed" bicycle wrench. He rushes to assist the priest who hands him a bloodied list and dies. Police arrive, later find Mark's bloodied tool nearby, and see Mark holding the list with blood on his hands. A smug, scowling, abrasive Chief Inspector Lejune, with an previously unknown (to Mark) assistant named Corrigan, promptly accuses Mark of the murder, swearing he will convict Mark and plotting his conviction throughout the film. Mark, released on bail, must proceed on an investigative effort to clear himself.
Christie's original novel is tightly-constructed, well-written, fast-paced and interesting, perfect material for a first-class film. What a pity it is still unfilmed! What was done here was to borrow a couple of ideas from one of her novels, change them as desired, change the environment and characters surrounding the ideas (keeping a few names for appearances), changed crime(s) and murderer(s), then marketed the result under Christie's name. Some would call this "bait and switch."
It is certainly the right of TV or movie producers to fabricate material whole-cloth for television productions. The results may even be entertaining and worthwhile. But impostures under the guise of a major author's work should be exposed for what they are. If these producers had wanted to be truthful, they should have given this not altogether bad film another name, say "The 3-Witch Mystery" subtitled "based on an idea from an Agatha Christie novel" and had a 2, maybe 2½-star film.
DVD picture quality and sound are fine.
Eerie and subtle.......2005-02-26
I AM American and a regular viewer of Mystery! and other such programs. Whether I'm a "wanna-be," as the reviewer from Sunnyvale implies or just an intelligent individual who likes subtleness in my programing, I enjoyed this DVD immensely. Colin Buchanan is attractive and sympathetic, and many minor roles are superbly cast. The director evokes a suitably "dark" atmosphere, playing up the occult plot. Yes, the motivation of the murderer is somewhat incredible, but that's the way Christie wrote it.
As a long-time fan of Agatha Christie, I enjoyed this opportunity to see some of her later work, without the "little Belgian" or Miss Marple. The film includes an amusingly "60's" cameo by Andy Serkis of Lord of the Rings fame (loved the Elvis Costello look).
