Jet Li's first movies.......2007-04-29
Shaolin Temple (1982) is Jet Li's first movie and the first of a series of movies that resulted in the popularity of the Shaolin Temple in the west, and ultimately to the rebuilding of the real Shaolin Temple near Dengfeng (China). The story is not very deep, but the fight scenes are fun, especially as no ropes were involved. A classic.
Shaolin Temple 2: Kids from Shaolin (1983) is the second movie in the series. The story is artificially construed around the rivalry of a Wudang swordsmaster's family of girls and a Shaolin monk's family of boys. Nice fight scenes, but the "comical" scenes always give me the willies.
Born to defense (1986) is Jet Li's third movie, and the first and only movie that Jet Li directed himself. Even though the critics about this movie are generally very bad, I liked the movie very much: realistic fight scenes with no wires, none of the awful slapstick scenes, and the view of a historical situation from the other side, i.e. from the Chinese point of view. Yes, the villain and the good guy are pretty stereotypical, but still there are a number of surprising twists in the story. Also, I liked that even though Jet has great fighting skills and often wins the fight itself, none of the fights actually ends good for him.
All in all: two classics and one not-so classic that might still be worth seeing.
Great package deal!.......2004-06-06
The best movies included are Shaolin Temple and Kids from Shaolin. Born to Defense is not really worth watching unless you're bored.

Description
Gordon Liu (36th Chamber of Shaolin, Kill Bill) is the head monk at the Shaolin Temple. His two young students are always looking to the outside world for fun and excitement. This leads them to go to Hong Kong, where they are in for more trouble than they expected. The man from Shaolin must now go and rescue the lads. What follows is wall-to-wall action Gordon Liu style. The final fight between Shaw superstars Gordon Liu and Wang Lung Wei is the best since the two clashed in Martial Club. Modern Shaolin techniques revealed for the first time!

I JUST WATCHED MASTER KILLER KISS A MAN. Does anything else really need to be said? You had better hope that I don't find you cause now i have this permanent memory burn that can only be cured by doing permanent damge to you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Absurd and Sloppy.......2005-06-11
I watched this movie with high exepectations due to Mr. Liu's previous films..
However I was very diapointed, as the quality of the film wasn't even up to the kind of kung fu films that make fun of kung fu films..The plot was implausable and at times disgusting with lots of peeing on each other... The Kung fu itself wasn't even run of mill... to sum it up ridiculous.. don't wast your money...
A Gordon Liu classic!.......2003-09-14
Just when you think one has seen all on the Master Killer,a gem like this comes along!
Gordon plays a monk at Shaolin Temple who is teaching two young kids. They a re naughty and wind up in Hong Kong, where the adventure begins.
Gordon goes looking for them and the action is a terrific blend of classic kung fu mixed with modern day technology.
Gordon's end fight with Shaw villian Wang Lung Wei is worth the price of the DVD alone!
The Shaolin Kids are also terrific, especially with weapons.
The extras include a great documentary on the Shaw Studios hosted by David Chiang.
The DVD is hosted by Shaw Star Philip Ko Fei,who gives a great demonstration and great interview.
Only drawback is the film is presented in fullscreen format.
A definite addition for thge collection.

Very odd and cheap Taiwanese Lone Wolf and Cub type movie .......2006-11-25
Yueh Hua is basically plays a court official who decides to take revenge for a boy's father. He drags the boy around in a wooden cart and has very weird enemies. Phillip Ko plays a swordsman who has great skill and is really scary. Then this one guy shows up who uses firepalm technique or something where he throws fireballs at people. The action is never great but you will have a good time watching this movie once, though only once. I can't explain it but I don't know if I would ever watch this movie again. It is good just not great. The only reason I would watch it again is to see some really weird moments. Chen Sing is the baddie in the finale and look for Leung Kar Yan(Beardy) in a fight before that.
I have the groundzero version of this. Bad picture quality but more than watchable.
