2 great movies for the price of 1.......2007-09-03
I have been looking forever for a widescreen print of Dragon Princess, and I finally found it! I will talk about the movies below, but first I want to talk about the grindhouse experience this disc offers. Before the double feature starts 2 original Sonny Chiba trailers are shown. After the first movie ends, 2 more trailers are shown right before the second movie begins.
DRAGON PRINCESS-
After Sonny Chiba's daughter witnesses him get beat up in a spectacular fight at the start of the movie, Sonny Chiba trains his daughter (Etsuko Shihomi) to be a karate killing machine. Sonny Chiba's role is basically only a cameo since he dies 20 minutes into the movie. So now his daughter goes to take revenge. She teams up with kung fu movie legend Yusuaki Kurata to take down the killers.
The action is fantastic. Sonny Chiba's fight at the start of the movie is the best fight in the movie, and the other fights are good. Etsuko Shihomi was one of very best Asian martial arts actresses and she reallY gets to show off. Yusuaki Kurata's kicking skills are up there with anybody and he is a very welcome addition to the cast.

The picture quality is very good and looks 100 times better than my 3 previous super full frame versions. And the English dub is remastered to perfection.
KARATE WARRIORS-
Similiar to Streetfighter, Sonny Chiba plays a mercenary killer. There are 2 gangs at war and both are trying to get a big stash of heroin. There is a samurai working for one of the gangs and Chiba knows he will have to fight him one day because they are both after the heroin. The samurai has a son and Chiba and the boy get along very well. Like most Chiba movies, this is very dark and bloody, and the story is a actually told a lot better than most Chiba movies.
The action is awesome and never lets up. They use a really cool camera technique when Chiba kicks soembody. I was glued to the screen from beginning to end.

Wonderful movies.......2007-01-10
These are the first My Little Pony movies that my 4-year-old daughter has seen and she loves them. Since the ponies are magical, they fit right in with her imagination at this age and the stories also have some morals to them that she can understand. I am very glad that I purchased the set.
One of the best animated movies I've seen........2006-08-21

Okay, so I went to my neighbor's house to watch his kids for a while so him and his wife could go watch Snakes on a Plane without their daughters freaking out everytime the snake jumps out. (That movie pales in comparision to this, by the way.)
I let them watch one of their DVDs and they put this in and told me I had to watch it. I thought it was going to be one of those campy direct to video things (I must've missed when it was in theaters or something) and the animation just blew me away. Not only that, but there are some great actors in that movie. The story was beautiful and touching and the dialogue is some of the most natural I've heard in a long time.
Do not miss this movie. If it looks like everything is all cutesy, you have the wrong movie. Get the real version. The one that's going to be nominated for practically everything.

In an imaginary world, a princess is on the run from the evil General Ruechang. Ruechang's top soldier played by Dolph Lundgren is sent to capture the princess so Ruechang can marry her. She falls in love with Dolph and convinces him to save her.
The movie is not badly directed, but the acting and story is really hard to sit through. The action is the only thing an Isaac Florentine movie should be watched for, and it doesn't disappoint in that area. Thouands of bullets fly, there are hundreds of explosions, and don't even try to keep a death count. While Florentine had not yet polished his action style (he used to direct Power Rangers), it is still fun to watch. The movie is low budget, but Florentine manages to make it feel like a big production. Where the low budget comes into play is with the actors. Dolph Lundgren as the main star greatly hampers everything. The editing is excellent, but Dolph just moves too slow. If he was at least a decent actor, his slowness could be excused, but if someone isn't a good actor in the first place, Isaac Florentine isn't going to be a big help. The final fight is not bad, but it is the best scene in the movie, and that is not saying much. There is also supposed to be something between Ruechang raising Dolph since he was a child, but they only tell you this in the story and the acting and directing job doesn't allow it to be believable.

The DVD from HBO Home Video has good picture quality and has short cast and crew biographies.
The best independent film.......2006-01-26
Warchyled feels like he owes General Ruechang something just because he brought him into the army every since he was 10. What he don't know is Ruechang killed the King which is Princess Halo's father so he can gain more power but that's not enough so he wants to marry the Princess so badly defentaly not for love cause he keeps on beating the princess, she knows aabout her father's murder so she pretended to be sick and hold off the wedding and then escaped. Warchyled has his duty to go and bring her back.
What's This Movie Trying to Say?.......2004-11-06
How come the arch-villain and the damsel-in-distress are the only Asian speaking roles in this otherwise virtually all-white film? With so few prominent Asian characters in U.S. media, the message seems to be that white men need to kill Asian men and rescue Asian women. This would be good on a double bill with Griffith's "Birth of a Nation."
If you want to see the "hot princess" (Rachel Shane, a.k.a. Valerie Chow) in a better film -- dancing around in her underwear no less -- check out Wong Kar-Wai's "Chungking Express."
The Best of the Worst.......2004-07-12
Do not purchase this DVD if it is priced over seven dollars, because it isn't worth it. However, you have to see this movie. It is so incredibly bad, and yet it takes itself seriously. I almost died laughing because
1. the acting is horrible
2. the dialogue is horrible
3. nothing makes sense--plot, setting, etc.
4. looks like it was created by a bunch of college film-majors under the influence of some substance
A beautiful piece of cinematic badness.

my roomate lended me this flick and i watched it. After the movie "death cube" this is without a doubt the worst movie ive ever seen. however i couldnt take my eyes of the screen because i couldnt believe how bad it was. get plastered with your friends and rent this movie and death cube.

Dragon Ball: Sleeping Princess in Devil's Castle
INTRODUCTION:
The Dragon Ball franchise is one of the finest anime series in the world. The series, created as a manga by Akira Toriyama in 1984, has always been popular, and it isn't hard to see why - interesting characters, cool locales, and intriguing plotlines. In addition to the 153 episodes created for the anime, three movies were made as well. Unlike the Dragon Ball Z movies, which were side stories, the DB movies were retellings of the story.
OVERVIEW (RELEASES):
Sleeping Princess in Devil's Castle is the second of the three Dragon Ball movies.
OVERVIEW (MOVIE):
Goku has just left for Master Roshi's place, to become his student. But there's another potential student in town! Krillin, the new competition, is eager to become the new protégé to the martial arts master, and leave Goku in the dust. Roshi sends them on a quest to retrieve a sleeping princess from a castle of demons - as a trial to become his students. Meanwhile, Lunch sneezes, and her evil form is on her way to the same castle, in search of the riches that supposedly lie within the castle. And to make things worse, Bulma is being held prisoner by the dark lord of the castle!
REVIEW(MOVIE):
This movie is a MASSIVE improvement over the first Dragon Ball movie. There's a lot more action and humor alike, and unlike its predecessor, this installment doesn't seem rushed. And unlike the first movie, this one keeps the new characters to a minimum - apart from Krillin and Lunch, the villains are the only other new cast members. This is just a fun-to-watch DB movie. Of the three DB movies, this is my favorite.
OVERALL:
Excellent DB movie. Well worth adding to your collection if you're a DB fan.

Not the best but it was good........2006-03-21
The secound dragon ball moive just had a few problems to it which is the reason I can not give it 5 stars. The moive is mostly about the tortutment saga except the begianing is longer. Goku shows up at Roushis place asking him to train him in martial arts so he can beacome a good fighter. But then kurrin shows up asking him to train him too. So Roushi makes them go on a task to find a princess and whoever brings her back will get to be trained. Goku plays fair and can win it. But after one secould of the race kurrin is already cheating. Later Bulma, Yamcha, Puar, and Oloung show up and want to see Goku Roushi tells them that he has sent them on a task to get the princess and the gang goes to tag aloung. But on the way Goku and Kurrin will learn that team work might be the only way to win this game ans save there lives! The reason I gave it 4 stars is beacuse Goku and Bulmas voices were just not right and made the moive fell a little less dragon ball. Over all it's alright.

Something in the air tonight.......2001-05-01
More than a decade ago I found a VHS copy of "Sonny Chiba - Bodyguard" at my local video store. My fascination with this crude japanese fighter is still a bit of a mystery for me....some 14 years later. "The Bodyguard"'s plot is a bit hard to follow, the fights lack Bruce Lee's agility but still there is magic in the air. There is something about Sonny Chiba that sets him apart from all others: He has a style of his own and hence his charm. I've been waiting for this particular movie to be released on DVD for quite some time and therefore I was very happy to find it out one bright day at a special price (not to mention the double feature). This is a widescreen presentation...of some sort. The sound quality is considerably good (I know the original copy doesn't have a magnificent soundtrack) and the picture quality is the best I've seen (again, considering how old this movie is and what kind of cameras were used to shoot it). I think this DVD is a good way to get to know Sonny Chiba and for those of us who already know the guy and his work (the "streetfighter" series in particular) - here's a rare classic that is well worth your time and money.

Disappointing.......2006-12-16
I had the book when I was a little girl, and I really loved the story. I bought the DVD because the book wasn't available, and I wanted to show my husband a piece of my childhood.
I ended up turning off the TV within 5 minutes. The characters sang, it seemed, every 30 seconds, and each song lasted 15 seconds. The lyrics weren't that good either. It was very obvious that they were trying to stretch the book to 60 minutes- but they did it very poorly. I know that the book was short, but the DVD could have been much better done.
Your kids may like it, but if you are an adult trying to reclaim your childhood don't bother- just get the book.
Paper Bag Princess Spanish track DVD.......2006-02-23
Spanish track extremely difficult to hear. Music muffles dialogue to the point where the characters who are speaking often cannot be heard. How disappointing in such a wonderful Munsch story!
