Description
Ex-World War II pilot Frank Enley (Van Heflin) is a respected contractor and family man. Then his troubled, gimp-legged bombardier (Robert Ryan) shows up with a gun and a score to settle. Perhaps neither man is what he seems to be as director Fred Zinnemann (The Day of the Jackal) guides a searing Act of Violence, "the first postwar noir to take a challenging look at the ethics of men in combat" (Eddie Muller, Dark City: The Lost World of Film Noir). Murder lives on Mystery Street. John Sturges (The Great Escape) directs a revealing-for-the-era procedural about a Boston cop (Ricardo Montalban) solving a whodunit with the help of a Harvard forsensic expert (Bruce Bennett). Welcome to CSI Noir.

Film Noir Heaven.......2007-09-08
The Warner film noir box sets are some of the best deals going -- great collections of great films in great transfers with often great commentaries. If you're a film noir addict you'll go nuts over these reasonably priced sets -- if you're not you'll quickly become one. All four sets are stupendous entertainment bargains.
A MUST FOR NOIR FANS.......2007-09-03
Ten classic film noir all come with informative commentaries. No need to say more. Another decent film noir boxset presented by WB Home Video.
Excellent Collection.......2007-09-03
Wonderful film noir movies. Insightful and, on occasions, hilarious commentaries and you get 'Crime Wave', 'Decoy' and 'They Drive By Night' as well -The Perfect package. I hope there is a 5th set soon and 'Detour', the film noir classic, features on it.

After making her name in The Princess Diaries, Anne Hathaway takes a radical detour with this edgy independent drama. As Allie, a wealthy gangsta wannabe, she makes no excuses for her delinquent behavior: "We're just teenagers and we're bored." When her Pacific Palisades posse, including pal Emily (Bully's Bijou Phillips), starts hanging out with a Latino gang (including Six Feet Under's Freddy Rodríguez), they learn what thug life is really about. Hathaway couldn't be more game: She swears, she fights--she disrobes (several times). Written and directed by Oscar winners Stephen Gaghan (Traffic) and Barbara Kopple (American Dream), Havoc plays like a B movie, in the vein of the superior crazy/beautiful, and was released straight to video. For Hathaway fans, it's a chance to see this young talent in a very different light, but for Gaghan and Kopple followers, this lurid morality tale is sure to come as a letdown. --Kathleen C. Fennessy
Description
A group of wealthy Los Angeles teenagers try to become part of the "gangsta" lifestyle but soon run into trouble when they come face to face with a real gang of Latino drug dealers.

crash lite.......2007-08-11
just see it for the ladies, because other than that it is like crash. Well wait this came out before Crash so..oh who cares. end result is the gang bangers bump heads with the wanna be gb's and it all goes downhill from there. Bayou Phillips is hot and so is Hathaway if you know what I am talking about so if you are looking for that kind of action it is here. Really now, good acting and neat story. Just that, well kind of not realistic, like the girls trying to get into a gang and stuff. Any teen that does something THAT dumb needs to start over in the first grade or just be admitted into an asylum.
Havoc (Unrated Version)..........2007-08-11
Overall, I found this film, adequate. A few notes:
1. Girls looking for thrills/excitement in East L.A.? I don't think so. Go rolling to East L.A. in a convertible Mercedes or SUV? Can you say car-jack victim? I can...without any bias whatsoever.
2. The initiation scene is somewhat realistic. It has been said that in order for girls to join certain male dominated groups (gangs, etc.), that they must submit themselves to the 'group.' That has been documented in the press...any teenage girls out there? Well, beware!!
3. As a person who has been to Palisades High School in West Los Angeles (yes, folks, Pacific Palisades High School is real, just minutes from the beach!). You do indeed see kids immersed in the hip-hop culture. The difference? Some of these kids' families are very well-off. That part of the movie comes through very well. Families with the kind of money depicted in the film are usually quite busy making money, and not home for their kids...well, you know the rest.
4. Finally, the scene where the Palisades boys go to look for the gang-bangers that ravaged their friend was just unrealistic. These guys would have been seen a mile-off and would have been dealt with accordingly. Strangers in a strange land, would be an adequate description.
Again, I found the movie...adequate, decently acted, but not much more. Rent (or borrow) a copy and judge for yourself. Three stars...
Raw.......2007-07-13
Raw script and raw acting. To watch how teens descend into a path of decadence so easily seems almost surreal. And such a fine line that separates the glamour and bummers in Hollywood.
havoc.......2007-07-07
hi guys the movie havoc i myself liked the movie.i like anne hathaway and to be honest i dont mind her being nude in the movie.but anne can act the movie aint disney but anne is grown up and this is a movie that shows anne as an adult.the movie is gritty,it has drug use violence.and nudity anne can handle adult movies roles. so for the older anne hathaway fans who want to check out the adult anne check out the movie.so if you buy the film purchase the unrated version more bang for you buck plus more anne.duane
Havoc.......2007-07-05
Havoc was a pretty good movie. It depicts a fairly accurate picture between real thugs and fake ones. It also shows how teenagers curiosity can get them into serious trouble. Only problem with the movie is the directors inept ending.

The intense soundtrack of Boiler Room is a fitting underscore for this movie, which pulses with the vigor of young, rich, amoral men wreaking havoc. This is not the antisocietal havoc of Fight Club, but the more deliberate mayhem that comes from greed run amok. The testosterone-junkie brokers of J.T. Marlin (the only female in the office is Abby, the receptionist and love interest, played by Nia Long) are out to make the sale, and whether that sale is legal or ethical doesn't matter.
Seth Davis (Giovanni Ribisi) is a 19-year-old college dropout who strives for approval from his father (Ron Rifkin), a judge who is horrified that his son operates a 24-hour illicit casino. When an old friend visits the casino with a fellow broker, Davis is impressed by their wads of money and yellow Ferrari, and decides to join the firm. In no time he's making sales and settling into the groove of the office and all the after-hours perks, but the dream fades when Davis discovers the scam that is making all of the brokers wealthy beyond their dreams.
Borrowing heavily from Wall Street and Glengarry Glen Ross, Boiler Room is at its best when dealing with matters of money, and powerful scenes of Davis learning to be a "closer" showcase the significant talent of Ribisi, Nicky Katt, and Vin Diesel. The movie flounders when developing the relationship between Davis and his father, becoming sentimental and trite. However, as a fable of modern society and a nostalgic vehicle about the days of yuppies past, Boiler Room is right on the money. --Jenny Brown
Customer Reviews:
Boiler Plate.......2007-09-10
A great look into how some small brokerages mold their brokers. Not all of course are shady as portrayed in this movie. Fans of movies about Wallstreet should enjoy it. Great cast like Giovanni Ribisi and includes good support from Vin Diesel and many others. This and "Wallstreet" are two of the best you will see about the area of New York that creates or ruins fortunes everyday.
When a young man is not satisfied with college he strikes out on his own by running a gambling casino in his apartment. He is eventually approached by a man running a small stock brokerage and he decides he will go legit to please his dad, a judge. At first all seems well but then he begins to find out the brokerage firm is not as legit as he first thought.
boiler room.......2007-09-07
I bought this movie for my hushman H loves this movie it's not my type of movie but when he begged me to watch it with him I now also love this movie.
Giovanni Ribisi.......2007-08-31
Giovanni Ribisi is an under appreciated actor in Hollywood. Ribisi runs a casino out of his house in this movie and decides to become a stock broker. Not a real broker just selling bogus house stocks. Vin Diesel and Ben Affleck round out the cast. Good movie but the story is drawn out too much.
Corey Cotta, Author of All of Yesterdays Tomorrows.
Triple X.......2007-06-02
Vin Deisel wimps out in this movie. At the end when the FBI is gonna raid the office he should kick butt!! He doesn't, so it sucks. The best scene is where the Boss tells one of the Stockbrokers that he can't sit down ever again! He has to stand until he makes a sale hahaha. Ben Affleck isn't as good as Alec Baldwin in Glen Gary GlenRoss. He tries to be, but can't. It just isn't good enough of a performance to equal Mr. Baldwin's. Vin Deisel should shoot people with machine guns in the film. He should shoot Affleck hahaha. Go Triple X!!
Good Movie.......2007-05-14
I spent some time in the car business at one point in my life and I developed an appreciation for taking what is yours and making it mine. With that said, if you liked Wall Street and Rouge Trader, then this 90's movie with a similiar storyline should find its way into your collection. For the price, you can't really go wrong.

A guilty pleasure with excess horsepower, The Fast and the Furious efficiently combines time-honored male fantasies (hot cars, hot women, hot action) into a vacuous plot of crystalline purity. It's trash, but it's fun trash, in which a hotshot Los Angeles cop named Brian (Paul Walker) infiltrates a gang of street racers suspected of fencing stolen goods from hijacked trucks. The gang leader is Dom (Vin Diesel), ex-con and reigning king of the street racers, who lives for those 10 seconds of freedom when his high-performance "rice rocket" (a highly modified Asian import) hurtles toward another quarter-mile victory. Racing is street theater for a lawless youth subculture, and Dom is a star behind the wheel--charismatic, dangerous, and protective toward his sister Mia (Jordana Brewster), who's attracted to Brian as the newest member of Dom's car-crazy team.
Director Rob Cohen treats this like Roman tragedy for MTV junkies, pushing every scene to adrenaline-pumping extremes; when his camera isn't caressing a spectrum of nitrous oxide-enhanced dream machines, it's ogling countless slim 'n' sexy race babes. The undercover-cop scenario cheaply borrows the split-loyalty theme perfected in Donnie Brasco; a rival Asian gang adds mystery and menace; and digital trickery is cleverly employed to explore the fuel-injected innards of the day-glo racecars. It's about as substantial as a perfume ad, but just as alluring, and for heavy-metal maniacs of any age, Diesel's superblown '69 Charger proves that Detroit muscle never goes out of style. --Jeff Shannon
Customer Reviews:
I Can't Even Remeber Why I Bought This.......2007-09-07
This is a half decent movie but not one I'd like to watch again. If you're a fan of Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, cool cars, or hot chicks then this one's for you, otherwise, don't bother.
Glossy with potential but empty with effect.......2007-08-25
This film seems to be very high in a glossy, shiny image but it really lacks in acting and believability. Paul Walker almost seems like he is a robot when reciting his lines in many scenes, and his ability to strain a look of concern makes my head hurt all the more. Vin Diesel is really no better, and even though he played a great villain in the movie "Pitch Black", his try at being a rebel without a cause/but with a cool car is stagnant. What the film is really good at are chase and race scenes, but the story involving an undercover agent and gangs who seem invincible is shallow, hollow and downright ludicrous. This film probably appeals to middle school kids who dream of having a souped up Honda with a fancy paintjob.
Great Action.......2007-07-24
I am NOT a fan of cop flicks or action movies. Too many people walk away with busted lips and fractured legs one day and are walking around like models and ballerinas the next, but this movie made a great effort to remember the pain each character experienced the day before, not to mention that I think Vin Diesel is sexy, especially when he grabbed that woman up by her rump. But I didn't love this movie just for that love scene (although I ABSOLUTELY loved that scene) or for the action or for the consistency. It was the cars that did it for me. I went to the Chicago auto show and for me, that was almost like writing. I was so content looking at all the different makes, models, paint jobs, and speed of each car at the auto show and absolutely in this movie. On top of that, I'm a big fan of speed (don't tell the police though) so when you put all of that together into one pretty interesting movie, there was now way this film was going to lose for me. I enjoyed it from beginning to end, and I didn't even pay attention to the idea of cops trying to arrest and stop speed racing because I was so wrapped up in the underlying plot so I didn't pay attention.
For anyone who likes a bit of unpretentious high speed fun........2007-06-13
I remember watching the trailer of "The Fast and the Furious" in cinemas. After watching the trailer I decided it maybe a decent enough movie, with plenty of thrilling car chases through huge cities kind of like "The Italian Job" and "The Driver" style... but I was so mistaken. This movie is the bomb. I believe that the only reason that all these people are doggin it is because they are envious. There is no way in this world that any of them could have done what these actors and actresses have done to make this movie come to life,
Paul Walker (The Skulls) plays a bland blond cop who infiltrates a seedy crew led by Vin Diesel (who has in fact, done much better work in films as "Saving Private Ryan" and "Boiler Room"). This group includes his sister (Jordana Brewster) and his tomboy girlfriend (Michelle Rodriguez). Their M.O. is knocking over semi's filled with electronic equipment.
This movie really hits home with the casting and dialogue, the whole movie has a feel like they just set the camera down in the middle of the street racing scene and every line feels improvised. (Which I found out on the DVD that many of the lines were). it raises itself just above the typical "Teen" movie but still keeps true to that youthful genre. I hated cars before I saw this movie, I never thought anything about racing or about cars in general. If you're planning on buying a couple of movies any time soon then "The Fast and The Furious" should be one of them. Oh yeah, and it doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile, winning IS winning.
Mindless, but Very Enjoyable!.......2007-05-31
I'm reading these reviews and I ask myself if these people were expecting a Casablanca, or a Gone with the Wind, or Saving Private Ryan, or Forrest Gump, or some other deep, Oscar-worthy masterpiece. ITS A RACING MOVIE WITH HOT GUYS AND GALS! Its a popcorn, summer flick, to watch lightheartdly and just enjoy the action. This is ALL its meant for!!!
If you like the action, the intense racing scenes, then pick this one up. The HD presentation is simply beautiful and the sound is outrageously crsip. Pump this baby through a 7.1 and turn in up! Sit in the middle of throttle opening, gas blasting, nitrous spraying goodness! If you want a good action flick and you dig fast cars and fast women (there's content in there for the ladies too) then pick this one up. You won't regret it.

Amazon.com essential video
After Martin Scorsese went to Hollywood in 1972 to direct the low-budget Boxcar Bertha for B-movie mogul Roger Corman, the young director showed the film to maverick director John Cassavetes and got an instant earful of urgent advice. "It's crap," said Cassavetes in no uncertain terms, "now go out and make something that comes from your heart." Scorsese took the advice and focused his energy on Mean Streets, a riveting contemporary film about low-life gangsters in New York's Little Italy that critic Pauline Kael would later call "a true original, and a triumph of personal filmmaking." Starring Robert De Niro and Harvey Keitel in roles that announced their talent to the world, it set the stage for Scorsese's emergence as one of the greatest American filmmakers. Introducing themes and character types that Scorsese would return to in Taxi Driver, GoodFellas, Casino, and other films, the loosely structured story is drawn directly from Scorsese's background in the Italian neighborhoods of New York, and it seethes with the raw vitality of a filmmaker who has found his creative groove. As the irresponsible and reckless Johnny Boy, De Niro offers striking contrast to Keitel's Charlie, who struggles to reconcile gang life with Catholic guilt. More of an episodic portrait than a plot-driven crime story, Mean Streets remains one of Scorsese's most direct and fascinating films--a masterful calling card for a director whose greatness was clearly apparent from that point forward. --Jeff Shannon
Description
Harvey Keitel plays Charlie, working his way up the ranks of a local mob. Amy Robinson is Teresa, the girlfriend his family deems unsuitable because of her epilepsy. And in the starmaking role that won Best Supporting Actor Awards from the New York and National Society of FIlm Critics, De Niro is Johnny Boy, a small-time gambler in big-time debt to loan sharks. You don't make up for your sins in the church, you do it in the streets..........2007-08-27
...And with that line a star was born. Martin Scorsese, Harvey Keitel, and Robert De Niro put together the greatest independent film ever. Mean Streets is a classic in every since of the way. Great cast, great script, great direction, the influence, the soundtrack. To list everything good about this movie would take up more space than I'm allowed.
Perfect from start to finish. The story is engaging, the characters are engaging. What more could you ask for?
The movie surrounds the lives of Charlie and his associates. Early Scorsese is definitely on in this movie. Everything that screams Scorsese can be seen and done perfectly in this movie.
A wonderful asset to any DVD collection. Highly recommeded.
Mean Streets.......2007-06-08
Mean Streets was a great bargain! I got it much sooner than expected, and the picture quality was like brand new! I would definetly order more products from this seller. Thank you
A Top Film.......2007-06-02
This is one of the most important movies of the 70's, released after The Godfather, and whilst probably not as good a film, I think it has been far more influential on other filmmakers - Tarantino for one. This is Scorcese's first masterpiece and rewards repeated viewings. The film is loosely based on Scorcese's own upbringing in little Italy.
The cast are perfection. Harvey Keital and Robert DeNiro spark brilliantly off each other, helped by a fabulous script and I believe some improvisation as well. Noteably the scene in the back of the bar "you mean last Tuesday". The dialogue in this film is marvellous and occasionally it is intentionally funny as well.
Prior to this film Scorcese had made some interesting films but none of them had his stamp on them. Mean Streets comes straight in out of nowhere as a fully fledged masterpiece:
The use of music when Johnny enters the bar; Its done in slow motion to the Stones Jumpin' Jack Flash.
The use of colour.
The drunk scene, not very long, but perhaps the best ever done. The camera (some sort of steadycam) faces Harvey Keital and we are staggering around with him, until eventually he falls over and passes out on the floor - the camera goes with him.
The wonderful fight sequence in the pool room over being called a "Mook"; when nobody knows what a Mook is...
Look out for Scorcese in an uncredited cameo role as Jimmy Shorts, and also for David Carradine as a drunk.
This is essential for any movie collection.
Movie Special.......2007-04-08
Excellent movie. Robert De Niro and Harvey Kietel are excellent. Martin Scorsese did an excellent job. I would recommend this move to anyone thats been to New Yorks Little Italy.
Before the Streets of Boston, before the Streets of 1860s N.Y.C. There was the "Mean Streets" of Little Italy.......2007-02-25
The first crime classic from the legendary Martin Scorcesse & his first of 8 pictures with Robert De Niro is 1973's "Mean Streets". Also starring Harvey Keitel who starred Scorcesse Masterpieces "Taxi Driver" & "The Last Temptation of Christ" A good, but not great crime drama, an intense classic, one of the meanest movies ever made. If you're are Scorsese fan see "Mean Streets"

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift has all the elements that spelled success for its predecessors: Speed, sex, and minimal dialogue. The plot doesn't need explication; it's a nonsensical series of confrontations and standoffs that serve to get us from one race to another. Tokyo Drift can most accurately be described as a visual poem about screeching tires, crunching fiberglass, and sleek female skin, set to a killer soundtrack of Japanese pop and hip-hop. The actors are only needed for tight close-ups of narrowed eyes or sweaty hands tightly gripping gearshifts, though Sung Kang, Better Luck Tomorrow, stands out as a vaguely philosophical hoodlum with deadpan charisma. The curved bodies of the cars and the luscious flesh of the women are both shot with a fetishistic hunger. The "drift" style of racing--in which the cars are allowed to slide in order to take sharp turns at high speeds--grabs your eyes; there's a strange, spectral beauty to rows of cars sliding sideways down a mountain road at night. Also starring Lucas Black (Friday Night Lights) as our wheel-happy hero; Bow Wow (Roll Bounce) as the scam-artist comic relief; and martial arts legend Sonny Chiba (Kill Bill) as a yakuza big shot. --Bret Fetzer

Drift King.......2007-08-05
I wanted to see this movie in the theaters last year but didn't get to it. They have been showing it on cable non stop and I have watched it about 15 times. I enjoyed this movie. Unlike some reviewers I think moving the story to Japan was a great idea. The series needed a change. The movie is like need for speed underground 2. Compared to the others it is very slick, most of the racing takes place at night, and lets face it the drifting just looks cool. Yes the story is fake. How does an American go over to Japan and become the new drift king especially since he had never heard of drifting until he got there. But, see you have to enjoy the movie for what they are giving you. The movie is not about the characters it is about the cars. Think about it for all the people that went to see Transformers did you go see that to see people talk or robots transform. You know the answer. Enjoy the cars women and drifting and enjoy the show. There is one character I liked Hahn was a pimp and cool as s..t. Best character in the movie.
Hot Cars, Big Action -- Terrible Story.......2007-07-30
Here is the good in the movie:
CARS!!! Lots of them and most of them beautiful. I enjoyed watching them move fast and was appreciative of my sound system because when they zoomed by not only did it sound good, but my bass made it feel good. The drifting was pretty cool, though by the end of the movie there was just too much focus on that aspect of "racing". This movie had some cool car chases and car races, even before the drifting came into play. The races were the only thing keeping me on the edge of my seat.
HD-DVD. I'm reviewing the HD-DVD version of this movie. Wow!!! Every scene was pristine and awesome. Not a single detail gets missed and was one of the better high definition movies out there as far as film quality goes (some of them don't look much better than a standard DVD does). I'll give the movie an extra start just for this.
Unfortunately, there was a lot of bad about the movie:
The story. Ugh!!! It was hard to find anything in this story that was believable or smart. Little in this movie actually made sense. Often times when a movie's story is this terrible it seems like the writers and actors were aware of this and you could tell it in the performance. But I'm actually afraid that those involved with the story actually thought it was a good story.
The acting. Oh please.
The love story. Blech!
The reality factor. I'm more likely believe movies like "Battlefield Earth" would happen before anything in this movie would actually happen.
By the middle of the movie I just started fast forwarding to the action. That was the only redeeming factor in this movie and that made it so I was glad I didn't catch this in the theater. I don't think I would have made it through the movie without walking out or falling asleep.
If you will be entertained by the picture quality and the car racing scenes then pick up this movie. If you are looking for a good story then avoid this movie like the plague.
A nince Movie about Car Raising Fantasy.......2007-07-24
Let's face it, this entire movie is a fantasy. It is basically an MTV video about fancy underground car racing or a "Need for Speed" movie version.
What did I learn from this movie? well, just because I like to play video-games of this genre, I may not necessarily like watching a movie about it. Don't get me wrong, I have 14-18 year old nephews that love this type of movie due to the cars and of course, the girls. This is why I took them to see it. They of course love it, that is why they have the DVDs and watch it again and again.
The story line, young underestimated underground racer makes move on girlfriend of nince's kingpin, kingpin challenge to race, both make a mess on the way, and he ends up deported to Tokyo, where he practically does the same thing. Of course, he meets his "sen say" and ends up becoming kingpin at the end of movie.
They are no surprises, you watch this movie because you enjoy watching stunts, girls and cars. It's all about image, and the movie is an entire facade.
My issue with this movie is not that it wasn't meant for me, is that it was meant for lets face it, teenagers, and the message that is being set about value and women, etc. is pretty empty, vain, superficial. Particularly since they tend to watch these movies over and over.
I don't know, maybe I am getting old. Then again, I loved Batman begins. So, Maybe I just like movies with substance.
say what you like to say...........2007-07-22
Put it this way this movie is not for everyone, period! its good for tuners and kids who love cars thats it. if you dont love cars or drive a piece of junk or is 90 years old and crippled watch something else. a lot of people had criticised the story line, what is there to criticise? youre watching a movie about cars and the underground world of drifting/racing whatever you wanna call it. go watch titanic if you want a good story line. for the people who likes to call themselves "proffesional" in racing, who thinks this is just antoher hocus bogus film will probably like the cars in the movie instead, theyre tricked out, nice body kits and performance mods, for that you have to buy the book: The Fast and The Furious: The Official Car Guide: All the Cars, All the Movies, it wont come with the movie. for the rest of the people just stay away from it if youre not even close to knowing what racing is all about. no point of watching something you dont like, theres more movies out there......
Was this supposed to be a comedy?.......2007-07-16
What can I say? The original "Fast and the Furious" was sort of ridiculous, but did make a mark in the modern genre of action movies that involve decked/tricked out cars. "2 Fast, 2 Furious" was a lackluster sequel, but at least there was a conduit from the first movie with Paul Walker starring in it. But this movie, "Tokyo Drift" was the most holistic form of cinematic crap I have seen in a long, long time.
The plot is that an American teenager Sean, played by Lucas Black (who has a southern accent that sounds so fake, yet in reality it isn't) is sent to live with his father in Tokyo. This happens after he again breaks the law for racing and wrecking cars after a languid day of high school. So he moves to Tokyo so he can be reformed, have a better attitude, bring his grades up and stay away from fast cars. Nevertheless, this instigator of plot never really seems to be addressed or resolved. The fact that Sean had no friends or family anywhere else closer than Tokyo still seems dubious. Any who, Sean is up to his old tricks again with cars faster than you can say "Goodyear" once he moves in with daddy.
As for this 105 minute (which felt much longer) bowel movement in still life had many interesting elements. For instance, I found it so interesting that all the Japanese students pretty much treat their native tongue like a second language and English as a first. Also every Japanese teenage girl that has an interest in cars is unbelievably sexy and hot. The only fashion and music in Tokyo is hip hop. It appears that none of these Japanese teenagers work, but their cars cost more that some of the projects NASA funds. Japanese mob members seem to have too much interest in teenage activities. Also the technique of "drifting" displayed in this movie is physically impossible to perform with a car, unless your car is created by Q (from the James Bond films). It is also pretty safe to say there is more computer graphics in this movie than a Pixar/Disney film.
Bow Wow? Bow Wow? Bow Wow? Bow Wow? Bow Why? What in the world was the point of him in this movie? All he did was produce comic relief, that wasn't funny at all and sell knockoff/bootleg sneakers and iPods. His presence could have been removed and it wouldn't have influenced the frail plot that was sadly placed. Also why did Vin Diesel agree to be in this movie, but refused to be in "2 Fast 2 Furious"? Not that "2 Fast 2 Furious" was great, but it was an Oscar winner compared to "Tokyo Drift". It isn't like Vin Diesel is some true thespian actor, just watch XXX, so why didn't he include himself in these movies some more. After all didn't the "Fast and the Furious" really introduce Vin to mainstream American audiences? I guess being in a sequel is beneath Vin. As for Vin Diesel's cameo, he looked like the make-up crew got a little jiggy with the Max Factor or something, because Vin looked like a woman.
In conclusion, if you want to laugh at a poor attempt to cash in to this franchise, watch "Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift". It really is entertaining, but not a good movie by any stretch of the imagination. In contrast, there is one of the most creative but ridiculous plug ins/product placements I have ever seen in a movie. The item is Tabasco sauce and it is thrown in the most outrageous, idiotic, and lame and "you have got to be kidding me" situations I have ever seen in a movie. You have been warned.

Like the high-revving imports and American muscle cars that roar down the streets of its south Florida setting, 2 Fast 2 Furious is tricked out to the max. While Vin Diesel opted for his XXX franchise, this obligatory sequel to The Fast and the Furious benefits from Diesel's absence, allowing returning star Paul Walker to shine while forging a lively partnership with rising star Tyrese, who fulfills his sidekick duties with more vitality than Diesel could ever muster. The Miami/Dade locations are another bonus, lending colorful backdrop to the most dazzling street-racing sequences (both real and digitally composited) ever committed to film. The plot is disposable--former cop Walker and jailbird Tyrese are recruited by the FBI to dethrone a thuggish kingpin (Cole Hauser)--but director John Singleton keeps the adrenalin pumping, enlisting a rainbow coalition of costars (including rapper Ludacris and Chanel supermodel Devon Aoki) to combine a hip-hop vibe with full-blown action while showcasing hot babes, edgy humor, and some of the coolest cars that ever burned rubber. Heed the movie's warning, kids: Let the stuntmen do the driving. --Jeff Shannon

Tyrese Did It For Me.......2007-07-24
I might potentially have groupie tendencies when it comes to Tyrese. Pretty much any movie that he's put in, I'm going to track run to the show to see. To put in one of my other favorite things to look at (cars) only complimented the movie more. The cop in "The Fast and the Furious" is on the lookout to arrest some dealers and needs some manpower to help him out. He comes up on an ex-con and a past friend, Tyrese's character, to help him fight the bad guys. Again, I don't get into action movies, but pretty much every time Tyrese came on set, I was all eyes and ears. I didn't really get into Eva Mendez's character and the end of the movie was way too Hollywood for me, but the building of the plot, and again the cars, helped it out some. I was also delighted to see Ludacris in this one.
FOR THOSE 2 HOURS OR LESS... I WAS ENTERTAINED!.......2007-06-20
This movie was up and down, to an effect. Having seen both movies, anyone who saw the first one knows that Vin Diesel was what shaped the movie... not Paul Walker. I can't say I have anything against Paul Walker's acting, and much less Tyrese, but I do think that it was the idea of changing both the concept and the crew for this one.
I mean, don't get me wrong. This movie has some parts that the first movie lacked. For example... this movie has the humor that the first movie needed. Hell, the first one probably would have been a -LOT- better if it could have been as funny as this one was. This one had the saturation of humor that everyone probably wanted anyway. Not too little, not too much. The first one had none at all.
On top of that, the plot, the concept, the acting, actors, and the backstory pretty much all change. No one has any idea that O'Conner (Walker) has any history with street racing. In addition we never knew he grew up in Florida or anything like it.As we can see from the first movie he drives like he's a newb when he's at the speedway in Los Angeles, and in the second movie you hear Tyrese discussing about them both being fast drivers in the past, and so on.
I guess the concept lost it's depth when they chose to put Cole Hauser (Paparazzi) in. I dislike his acting ability on the whole. I thought he sucked in Paparazzi and he wasn't much better in this one.Not to mention the change of location, the whole location flip flopped. It went from pacific to Atlantic, and neither of these movies have anything to do with one another. If they -really- planned to do this movie with Paul Walker returning, they should have based it somewhere else out of California, like Malibu or something. If they wanted to keep it Miami-oriented, they should have went for a new lead actor and dropped Walker altogether.
On the whole, the movie was fine but I dislike it for what it's lacking, originality more than anything. I wouldn't recommend buying it right away. Go rent it to see if you like it first. I wager some will like it, and some won't.
great movie.......2007-04-08
I loved this movie, looks back on Brian's life.
Eva Mendes looked great!!!
RENT IT FIRST. Then, if you like it, BUY IT!!!
A Worthy Sequel.......2007-03-14
Pretty good flick. Much better than I expected. Pretty decent story line. Fans of the first will definetely enjoy this. Tyrese Gibson can act...Who knew ? Great action, and all the car chases you can handle...probably more. Eva Mendes is nice to look at...as always, and Cole Hauser is cool as hell...as always. If hot cars, hot girls, great action and a better than expected story are your thing....Give this a look. A generally good film. 3 Stars.
Soft Core Car Porn.......2007-01-19
2 Fast 2 Furious: 5/10: Okay so it's car porn. It's rather well done car porn. Stunningly brainless but rather fun in places 2 Fast 2 Furious gives us a candy colored version of street racing with a plot that is best not even discussed.
After all you don't watch this for the plot. You watch it for the cars. A giant product placement for Mitsubishi among others the cars and characters are right out of a video game (the paint jobs match the personalities) and kudos to the filmmakers for keeping the CGI to a minimum. The movie made me want to trick out my old Dodge Dart.(Electric Blue paint job with matching neon on yeah baby).
Director John Singletary moves the cars around like he has been directing Burt Reynolds's movies all his life. (This is not a criticism and the fact he avoids Cannonball Run style humor is another plus.) Singletary who usually films much more important movies, (what's next Scorsese's Jaws 5 or Spike Lee's Ella Enchanted 2 Ella in Da Hood? Actually the way some of Spike's recent films have gone this may not be a bad idea) keeps the pace tight and the actors attractive.
However all is not peachy keen. For example I haven't seen African American hairstyles this bad since Cotton came to Harlem. The Tyrese character comes across as a complete idiot almost sinking the movie once or twice. (Now I know Tyrese can act I saw Baby Boy.) Another quick note I have driven cars with nitrous oxide and they give you a burst of acceleration not warp speed effects from Star Trek. (And lets face it the Mitishibishi cars are pretty but not fast. These cars are dragging down a strip after a minute and the speedometer finally moves from 90 to 120 my Dart has better acceleration after 60 sixty seconds.
The movie, to its credit, acknowledges when the cars get whooped by some old American muscle. I know I promised not to discuss the plot but one thing. If you needed someone to drive a couple of million dollars from Miami to Key West (all of 2 hours on Interstate 95 and Route 1), would you A: hire and old couple in a RV B: Drive it yourself or C: Hire two ex-cons in the flashiest cars you have ever seen and who had to this point been incapable of rounding the block without causing an accident and attracting various state and local agencies. I guess that's why we are not criminal masterminds.

Kino Video's remastered edition of Scarlet Street finally does justice to one of the best film noir classics of the 1940s. Less than a year after scoring a critical and popular success with The Woman in the Window, director Fritz Lang reunited with stars Edward G. Robinson, Joan Bennett, and Dan Duryea for this fatalistic New York City tale of a meek, middle-aged cashier and aspiring artist named Christopher Cross (Robinson) who unwittingly falls into a trap set by a pair of Greenwich Village con artists (Bennett, Duryea) who plot to sell his paintings and make off with the profits. In addition to Lang's masterful use of studio backlot locations and cinematographer Milton Krasner's exquisite control of light and shadow, the film draws its primary strength from the atypical performance by Robinson (typically so good at playing heavies, and a knowledgeable art collector off-screen) as a hen-pecked husband and self-professed failure whose withered ego makes him especially vulnerable to the false charms of Bennett, a femme fatale as heartless as she is ultimately doomed. Her scandalous behavior on screen and off (Bennett was the wife of producer Walter Wanger and Lang's mistress) and Duryea's pimpish amorality made Scarlet Street both immensely popular and scandalous enough to be banned in three states when the film was released in late 1945, but in Lang's dark vision of corrupted souls and avenging angels, nobody goes unpunished. The ending of Scarlet Street is as unforgiving as it is unforgettable, and in the hands of Fritz Lang, it's the purest essence of film noir at its finest. Kino's DVD release offers a high-definition digital transfer from a 35-millimeter negative preserved by the Library of Congress (in other words, it puts every previous video release to shame), and there's an astute, scholarly commentary by Lang expert David Kalat that puts Scarlet Street into critical perspective with Lang's career and film noir in general. For fans of the genre, this is a must-own DVD. --Jeff Shannon

Edward G Robinson- Tough Guy No More!.......2007-07-04
Actor Edward G. Robinson evokes many images: biblical figure, esteemed business executive, erudite professor, and perennial gangster. In Fritz Lang's multi-layered noir classic Scarlet Street, Robinson convincingly portrays a meek, gulible store cashier who becomes intangled in a spider woman's alluring plot of deception. Lang's film is filled with sexual themes that pushed the limits of Hollywood's protectionist Production Code. The film's 1945 release date marked an immoral counterpoint to post WWII conventionality and American conservatism. Joan Bennett sizzles as the manipulative prostitute Kitty March. Kitty willingly accepts the mental and physical abuse of her pimp played brilliantly by noir stalwart Dan Duryea. But Kitty is no desperate fall girl, she has rationalized her relationship with Johnny as one enveloped in romantic love. To Kitty her "marriage" to Johnny is one that works because all couples that are deeply in love fight. The only elements missing in Kitty's blissful world are respectful occupations, extended families, a home, children, and shared intimacy. Lang's dark film purposely omits any hints of normalcy. Instead Kitty and Johnny's world is one characterized by street hustles, grifting, and deception. Their meal ticket mark is Chris Cross (Edward G. Robinson) who washes dishes in an apron for a wife that still adores her first, late husband. Chris has spent 25 unnoticed years as a store cashier and only truely enjoys life when he paints on Sunday afternoons. That is until Chris meets Kitty. Other reviewers have commented on the storyline, but a few scenes in this noir film are golden moments of the genre. When Kitty finally bursts Chris's naive bubble by shouting: " I've been wanting to laugh in your face ever since I met you. You're old and ugly and I'm sick of you!" murder becomes the only way for Chris to retain his manhood. Chris has gotten away with murder not once, but twice. The innocent Johnny is sent to the electric chair for Kitty's murder and thus both of Chris's tormentors are gone. Or are they really? Director Lang has weaved a complex picture that reveals many human weaknesses, vices, and temptations: embezzelment, infidelity, suicide, blackmail, prostitution, murder, injustice, and love are all present on this dark city canvass. This one is a must see and keeper for all noir enthusiasts.
A truely haunting movie.......2007-03-30
Catharsis is good for people.
Everyone has some blood on their hands as they get older.
This movie reaches into your guilts and twists.
I've seen it twice now.
The first time I liked it,
but didn't ever really want to see it again.
This time when I watched it I could appreciate
how the master film maker has worked.
It is said to be a remake of the French Renoir's La Chienne:
I don't know if I would want to be able to see that deeply into the human
condition?!
"Listen baby, you got him right where you want him...he's on the hook and can't get off.".......2006-11-04
The film Scarlet Street (1945), based on a novel by Georges de La Fouchardière, was produced and directed by Fritz Lang (Dr. Mabuse: The Gambler, M, The Big Heat), and stars Edward G. Robinson (Little Caesar, Double Indemnity, Key Largo), Joan Bennett (The Man in the Iron Mask, The Woman in the Window), and Dan Duryea (Criss Cross, The Flight of the Phoenix). Also appearing is Margaret Lindsay (The House of the Seven Gables), Jess Barker (The Night Walker), Rosalind Ivan (Johnny Belinda), and Charles Kemper (Gallant Journey).
As the film begins we meet a character named Christopher Cross (Robinson), a timid and unassuming middle-aged man, who is celebrating his 25th anniversary as a cashier in a department store. After the party winds down, a tipsy Chris gets turned around somewhere in Greenwich Village and comes across a woman taking the beating from a man, and rescues her, sort of...turns out the attacker, whose face we don't get to see, was fairly drunk and easily enough chased away. Anyway, Chris is immediately taken with the woman, a wannabe actress named Katharine 'Kitty' March (Bennett), allowing her to believe he's a wealthy artist, rather than telling her the dismal truth (seems Chris fancies himself a painter, but it's more or less a hobby rather than a career option). Here's where things get complicated...unbeknownst to Kitty Chris is lowly nine to fiver, married to a shrill harpy named Adele (Ivan), theirs being a marriage of convenience, and unbeknownst to Chris Kitty is involved with a real slick huckster named Johnny Prince (Duryea), the same guy who appeared to be attacking her on the street (turns out he was just trying to get some gambling money). Anyway, Johnny, ever the schemer, believing Chris to be a man of means, convinces Kitty to schmooze him up a bit for some dough, which she does, but Chris, who's a real sap, hasn't the green, so he procures it from his skinflint wife. Eventually Chris eventually comes clean to Kitty about the fact he's married and ends up setting her up in a posh pad, which allows not only for him to visit her, but also gives him a place to pursue his painting, something his wife thinks is a waste. Through a series of circumstances involving Johnny trying to sell Chris' paintings (he and Kitty still believe Chris to be a famous artist), Chris' works actually gain some attention, resulting in Johnny talking Kitty into pretending she painted them, rather than Chris (this wasn't too difficult given Chris never signed his own works). Anyway, as Kitty becomes famous Chris discovers the ruse (only Kitty's part, not her involvement with Johnny), and goes along with it, living vicariously through Kitty given the fact his work is garnering so much attention, but things turn sour once Chris learns of Kitty's involvement with Johnny along with how they've been playing him for a world class sucker...I won't say what happens but I will tell you a sharp implement is involved...
Of most all of the films I've watched recently, which is quite a few, this one had the most intricate storyline. If you've read through the previous paragraph it may seem like I've related a lot, but in actuality I've only touched upon a small number of highlights. There's so much more going on, in terms of both characters mentioned and those that weren't...everything about this feature worked for me, including the immaculate direction, the engaging writing, and the excellent performances. One aspect I was unsure of early on was the character played by Edward G. Robinson in that it seemed so different than what I've come accustomed to with some of his other films I've seen as I'm more or less used to seeing him portray hardnosed gangster types, not spineless, easily manipulated saps. Once I got past my own preconceived typecasting, though, it went down a lot easier, helped immeasurably by the fact Edward G. Robinson is probably one of the best actors to come out of the American cinema. As far as the other performers, Joan Bennett played her part perfectly as she was able to maintain her character's pretense of decorum, at least enough for a lovesick sap to buy off on, but once her character's guard was down we saw her for what she really was, an opportunist who desperately sought the affections of another, even more opportunistic individual played by Dan Duryea, whose character was about as oily and charming (and misogynistic) as they come. Seriously, this is the type of guy who could talk you out of your skin and be long gone before you realized what happened. One of my favorite sequences from the film comes as Kitty relates to Johnny the fact Chris is married and given they way his mind works, he suggests maybe Kitty can pry some money from Chris if it were thought by him that somehow his wife might learn of his relationship (which was nonsexual, by the way) with Kitty. Kitty replies about that being blackmail, to which Johnny states,
"It's only blackmail, baby, when you're dumb enough to get caught."
As I said the direction is wonderful as there was never a time when I wasn't engrossed in the material, which flows at a steady pace. One really interesting aspect for me was near the end, when Chris finally allows himself to realize his tragic folly, and reacts in a shocking, but not unexpected manner. All in all this is probably one of the best film noir features I've seen in awhile, and I'd highly recommend it as an example of a truly unique and fascinating feature within the genre.
The fullscreen (1.33:1) picture on this Kino Video DVD release looks sharp and clean, and it is indicated on the DVD case that digital transfer was culled from the 35mm negative preserved by The Library of Congress. There are a few, minor flaws, but they're barely noticeable. The Dolby Digital audio comes across very well, matching the quality of the picture. There are a couple of extras including an audio commentary track with author David Kalat and gallery containing images of promotional materials, deleted scenes, and some script excerpts.

By the way, it seems there are a few, different DVD releases of this floating about, but I can only speak towards the quality of the one released by Kino Video, which seemed the priciest of the bunch. As far as the others, well, buyer beware...
At last a decent transfer.......2006-09-02
For so long dogged by unacceptable public domain DVD transfers, Kino has come up with a decent version of this masterpiece at last.
The relentless determinism and intellectual rigour of Fritz Lang's oppressively tragic universe does not give his viewers much cheer but his is a moving and valid vision nonetheless. Scarlet Street is possibly his bleakest film and is based on material that also inspired Jean Renoir's La Chienne (1931). I find this version the more compelling partly because the tight, closed worlds of American film noir crime dramas with their dark, cobbled streets devoid of many sources of light are perfectly attuned to Lang's sensibility; and partly because I love the leading actors-Edward G Robinson, Joan Bennett and Dan Duryea.
Robinson's finely-shaded acting (like Claude Rains he always gets it just right) is a tour de force: he captures to a tee the pathetic vulnerability of the retiring cashier Christopher Cross, who, hen-pecked by a shrewish wife (splendidly vicious Rosalind Ivan), nurses aspirations of escape into a retirement spent in amateur painting. In a chance encounter following his retirement dinner that could only have been engineered by the Fates and shot in Lang's most expressionistically oneiric style, he "saves" actress-cum-hooker Joan Bennett from a beating by "boyfriend" Dan Duryea (a whining pimp in a pin-stripe suit) and proceeds to develop a romantic obsession for her. Joan Bennett is a really class act as the sleazy, opportunistic femme fatale who trades on Robinson's delusions to gain entry to the lucrative art world by signing her name to his naive paintings.
As events pursue an inexorable path towards tragedy (in the truest classical sense of the term), Lang draws on arresting imagery from the art world to explore Robinson's middle-aged fantasies/delusions about his idee fixe (Bennett). This is complemented by Lang's precise chiaroscuro and stylized noir ambience to create an atmosphere of suffocating entrapment.
Paradoxically, the film combines these elements with some well-chosen domestic detail which is filmed with a naturalistic authenticity that is equally oppressive. It all adds up to a complex claustrophobic experience.
The final sequences are a descent into a hellish nightmare as Robinson, having literally gotten away with murder, is pursued by his conscience (the "Furies") and ends his days as a pitiful tramp on a park bench hearing voices in his head. For the audience it provides a catharsis worthy of its Greek models but it was incidentally a flagrant breach of the then-prevailing Hays code by the back door(with the wrong man being executed for the murder Robinson committed, and Robinson in a technical though not a moral sense, going unpunished for his crime).
Excellent Film.......2006-08-15
This is a great film. It's one of those movies that stay with you long after you've finished watching it. Great character development, great dialogue and a great story. This is one I actually re-watch often.

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift has all the elements that spelled success for its predecessors: Speed, sex, and minimal dialogue. The plot doesn't need explication; it's a nonsensical series of confrontations and standoffs that serve to get us from one race to another. Tokyo Drift can most accurately be described as a visual poem about screeching tires, crunching fiberglass, and slee
