This film and Hello Dolly were the knockout blows to the studio movie musical, but Paint doesn't deserve its tarnished name. Ben Rumson (Lee Marvin) takes the model of a rakish derelict to an unequaled high as a prospector who teams up with a greenhorn named Pardner (Clint Eastwood), and they both end up marrying the same scorned woman (Jean Seberg). No-Name City, the prospecting town they found, is Sodom and Gomorrah without the camels, and a vision of humanity left to its own devices. The songs are mostly wonderful melodies from Lerner and Loewe, with definite high points, notably "They Call the Wind Maria" and "Wand'rin' Star." Clint Eastwood always gets flack for his versions of "I Still See Elisa" and "I Talk to the Trees," but that scorn is equally undeserved. Perhaps Paint's biggest sin, in retrospect, was trying to combine the aesthetics of the musical with the aesthetics of the male protagonists' world-weary machismo. Not the easiest task, but Paint pulls it off. --Keith Simanton

This movie takes me back to when I first watched it. I think I was 8 or 9 years old. I get the same thoughts and feelings as I got the first time I watched it. This movie has so many funny blips that I can't believe it. Like, "Whats a fornicater? I don't know, I'm not a religious man" and many many more. The story line is super and the characters and singing and scenery are just the best. Incredible movie. Whenever I need to escape for awhile, I head to No Name City where the drinking is good and I can sing loud and then when I wake up in the middle of the night, I'm OK again. This is just a great movie all the way. I'm still in love with Elizabeth after all these years.

Like When Ben takes the Mormon boy to become a man at the local cat house...hahahaha... "Ooooh apple jack eeyyyy!" Hahahahaha...The lines in this and the comical delivery is spot on...hahaha Enjoy the movie for what it is and keep your pie hole shut...haha

I know a lot of you people love this movie, and I accept that. But this movie just isn't my cup of tea. This movie to me is one of the worst ever made. Of course that's my opinion.

Fans of author Louis Sachar's book Holes will be delighted with this scrupulously faithful adaptation. After being wrongly found guilty of stealing a pair of sneakers, Stanley Yelnats (Shia LaBeouf) gets sent to Camp Green Lake, a juvenile correctional facility in the bed of a long-gone dry Texas lake. There--under the watchful eye of overseer Mr. Sir (a zesty Jon Voight), sneakily mean therapist Dr. Pendanski (Tim Blake Nelson, O Brother Where Art Thou?), and the cool and cruel Warden (Sigourney Weaver)--Stanley and dozens of other delinquents are forced to dig an endless series of holes that the Warden hopes will lead her to a precious secret left behind by a long-dead female outlaw (Patricia Arquette). Sachar's book is beloved for its vivid characters and suspenseful plot; by sticking close to its source, Holes has become a dynamic, exciting, and surprisingly touching movie. --Bret Fetzer

5 out of 5 stars I love this movie.......2007-07-21

Hi well to start this is a fun movie! I love everything about it!! It's so hard to sum it up in one little review so I'll keep this short sweet and to the point. This is a great movie I like it a lot well gotta go hope this was helpful Brooke.

5 out of 5 stars Holes.......2007-06-12

A pair of shoes fall from the sky and hit Stanley Yelnats in the head. Turns out; they were extremely valuable, donated to a homeless children facility by a famous baseball player. The police show up and arrest him, turns out that the shoes were stolen. A judge gives him the choice of Camp Green Lake or jail. Stanley thought that Camp Green Lake sounded like fun. But when he got there, he had the worst time of his life. He finds out that there is no lake and there hasn't been rain for over 100 years. He makes friends along the way and figures out that the warden is up to no good. Stanley helps spoil her plot.
The director, Andrew Davis, did a great job following the book. This film was based on the book "Holes" by Louis Sacher. Louis Sacher also did the screenplay for the movie.
I thought the movie was awesome. It had a great plot. There were many twists and turns in the story that came together at the end. The use of flashbacks made it fun to watch!
I would recommend this movie to any family. Families will want to watch it over and over again.

5 out of 5 stars great family movie.......2007-05-21

my daughter loves this movie she has watched it several times since I got it for her. I watched it with her as well. It is great everyone with kids should get this movie and watch it with their children.

4 out of 5 stars Doesn't Quite Fit the Novel's Hole, But Still Good.......2007-04-29

If you dig out a chunk from gold bullion, all you will get is still gold. So that's what this movie is: a gold nugget--albeit necessarily smaller than the timeless novel of Louis Sachar, who wrote the screenplay, too.

Casting is well made, and Jon Voight reminded me why he's a great actor. Kid-actors were good and a few of them stood out as possible great actors of the near future.

Most exceptional performance comes from Patricia Arquette. Although her role was smaller in time than most others, her character had the most discernable character transformation in the movie; not just that she goes from being a teacher to bandit, but her facial expressions and demeanor are interesting to watch.

In the novel, Stanley goes through a physical metamorphosis along with the positive change in his self-esteem. But as they mention in the DVD extras, this was "too difficult" to ask of a teen-ager to do. I agree. Yet better acting/directing could have made the young Stanley character's emotional phase shift more remarkable to see. A novelist in this area has tremendous advantage over a movie because the reader can "experience" what a character's going through in more subtle ways than the motion pictures medium can allow, easily.

5 out of 5 stars Near Perfect Adaptation of Great Book.......2007-02-20

The movie version of HOLES is wonderful and very close to the popular and well written book for children/young adults. This is not surprising since Louis Sachar who wrote the novel also wrote the screenplay. The movie is well cast except Shea Labeuf does not look much like the Stanley described in the book as the novel's Stanley has a weight problem at the book's start while Labeuf is always about normal size. There are a couple of flashbacks in the book but they are handled without confusion to any viewer who is paying attention or is over age seven. And like in the book all the plot lines are tied up very neatly by the end.

1 out of 5 stars The name of the show says it all...........2007-07-20

I have to say that FX is one of the few networks on television that is bold enough and has the audacity (meant in a good way) to bring such wonderful shows as Nip/Tuck and Rescue Me. Being a HUGE fan of both of the former, I decided to give Dirt a try. I was apparently exposed to it enough as it was promoted to the extreme throughout season 4 of Nip/Tuck. It seemed like it might have some interesting elements and bring some of the same flare that other series on FX showcased.

When the first episode/pilot aired I was a bit interested enough to watch the next episode. However, after the third episode I realized that FX series only run about 13 to 14 episodes. Therefore, there really isn't a whole a lot of time to work with, especially when many other television series product about twice as many episodes in a season. I figured if the show didn't get better by the fifth episode, I was going to drop it.

Well the fifth episode came and gone and I was still watching. I suppose good marketing by the creators, yet part of me felt "I have watched it this far, it has to get better". It never did. As a matter of fact the show just became more and more ridiculous. It was getting to the point where I was laughing every week at how dim, slow and obtuse the episodes were progressing. Is this the good marketing the creators were intending to induce?

At a core level I think I understand what FX and Courteney Cox were doing. They were trying to make a very racy show that REALLY pushed the envelope by using the world of Hollywood/stardom and trashy news reporting. In conception I must admit it is a great idea. The execution of the show, that is a different story entirely.

The one of the many draw backs of the show is Courteney Cox. Mind you her acting isn't bad, but it seems like she is trying SO hard to escape the paradigm she created on Friends for the past decade that she comes off kind of flat. She plays Lucy Spiller, like the play on the text "Spiller = spill the beans/dirt". Lucy is the type A personality, anal and OCD cut throat director of DirtNow magazine. She wants her story hell or high water. Nothing or anyone will stand in her way. Lucy also has trust issues mainly with men; this is due to trauma that happened with her father. These types of trust issues also mirror her intimacy issues. Nevertheless, Lucy finds plenty of time to masturbate, which I found boring after awhile, and that is saying a lot. A word to the wise, Lucy will sell out ANYBODY AND EVERYBODY for a story. In other words she is a real "another name for a female dog". As for Courteney Cox, I find her to be a very attractive woman, yet in this show her face looked really hard and shopworn. I also wanted to feed her a couple of things of the 99 cent menu from Wendy's, she is way too skinny.

Now it seems like Lucy might have some soft spots or things that might make her a likeable character, but it never happened. She is so obsessed with getting a story that she will black mailing and stepping on toes to get it. However that behavior after about four episodes grows frail. I got to the point where I didn't even care what happened to her. This is a bad sign when she is the lead character and is carrying the show. There was no duplicity with Lucy, in other words she isn't very dynamic. I find this surprising for a FX show, because many characters from their shows display wonderful binary components (i.e. Tommy Gavin from Rescue Me & Christian Troy from Nip/Tuck). There was also a subplot in the first season where someone was black mailing Lucy. First of all Lucy was so vexing I really didn't care if someone was out to get her. Oh and as a side note, I figured out who was black mailing her half way through the season, it was painfully obvious, really. Also in juxtaposition of this mystery of "Who is black mailing Lucy" FX put a contest out: guess who is black mailing her and e-mail your suspect and you can win a new car. Again this contest happened half way through the first season. Were the ratings for this show so poor that FX had to give a car away so people would keep watching?

As for the rest of the characters, well they are all pretty much empty. Everyone is either out for their best interests and rather shallow in their ruses in achieving this goal. The only really interesting character in the entire show is Don played by the talented Ian Hart. Don is a photographer who is both astute in taking pictures and is paranoid schizophrenic. Also every single character in this show abuses a controlled substance one time or another. I suppose it is good to throw in some drug/alcohol addiction, but come on. As for the movie star Julia, she is a pill popper and we follow her in and out of rehab. The realism of her addiction and treatment was written very poorly. She was a waste of a character. Willa, reporter for DirtNow is basically morphed every week, from modest, surly, eager, slut, moral and backstabber. Brent, publisher for DirtNow wasn't as annoying as other characters, but appeared to break every law possible in the world of sexual harassment. Even guest stars like Vincent Gallo and Paul "Pee-Wee Herman" Reubens didn't add any solace or redeeming aspects.

There were also plenty of loop hopes and/or dead ends throughout the season that never went anywhere and/or just ended quickly. For instance, Holt (who appears high or half asleep the entire season), who is Julia's boyfriend and famous movie star, but then gets involved with Lucy despite the fact Lucy never seemed attracted to him, throws up worms, yes I said it, throws up worms, like earthworms. What medical condition makes you puke up worms and not be dancing outside death's door? I can swallow (pun intended) the worm thing if Holt was bitten by a zombie, turning into a werewolf or something. However, it appears that this happens just to shock the viewer. Once the shock is given, the storyline is never revisited. The entire season is like this. Many issues that surround former L.A. Laker Rick Fox's character in this show follow the same formula. As for Jennifer Aniston's guest appearance in the last show of the season, give me a break. This show pretty much became a parody of itself; showcase Aniston so this is the first time that Aniston and Cox had been on camera again since Friends. If this isn't a media/tabloid scam then I don't know what is.

As for the storylines from week to week, it seems like the writers followed one of two methods when producing their daft tales. The first involves the writers picking up an abnormal psychology text book and opening up a random page. Whatever page they landed on is what issues/disorder/personality trait they will focus on that week. The second involves a contest between the writers, to see if they can make this week's show as different as possible from the one the prior week. The only conduit is the characters, but the story and even the behaviors of the characters don't really follow over from last week's show.

I don't want to be misunderstood, I love sex, even graphic sex, violence, sordid affairs, deception and really dark subject matter. Dirt had all of these things, but with flat characters and the only real conflict in story was that Lucy needed a cover story (every show focused on that) and everything else just got old really fast. In addition, Dirt might be candid in it's depiction of Hollywood and how the media covers it. Yet if I want to watch superficial stuff about celebrities I will just watch E News or Entertainment Tonight. If I want sex or violence thrown into the mix, I will watch either of the former shows then watch an adult movie and a Chuck Norris flick.

I do feel I gave Dirt a solid chance since I stuck in there for the entire first season. I do admit it provided entertainment in the "it is so bad it is funny and I am enjoying abasing it" sort of way. Dirt is rather lackluster, listless and humdrum when compared to some of the other shows FX produces. I guess Dirt did something right because from what I understand it is coming back for a second season. For the sake of content, I hope Dirt takes a different approach its second season, because at the current moment daytime soap operas and low budget movies have more substance.

4 out of 5 stars FINALLY!.......2007-07-14

It is about time they released this show on DVD! I mean, I've been waiting forever and the show is extremely interesting and addictive.
It follows hard-working and tough tabloid editor Lucy Spiller (Courteny Cox), editor-in-chief of two successful tabloid magazines, Dirt and Now (eventually in episode 3 to merge into one magazine, DirtNow). Her photographer and best friend Don Konkey, is a functioning schizophrenic who will do anything to get the shots. Later in the season, his strange visions become more and more out of hand. In the beginning, he started out with an imaginary girlfriend, then he had visions from people that said to kill Lucy! Other characters include drug-addicted actress Julia Mallroy, who's having affairs with countless people and is butting heads with Lucy and her magazine(s). Her troubled husband, Holt McLaren starts an affair with Lucy and becomes obsessed with her and feels he can't live without her. There is also Brent, Lucy's editor who has to put up with a lot of her attitude and ruthlessness. He's also having an on-off relationship with intern and secretary Willa MacPherson.
The highlights of the season include "The Sexxx Issue", "Pilot", and "The Secret Lives of Alter Girls".
I really can't wait for the DVD to come out. I hope I get it for Christmas. December 11th seems so far away! By the way, season 2 should be airing on FX early 2008.

Another of those cut-and-paste comedies from Adam Sandler's production company starring one of Sandler's erstwhile Saturday Night Live colleagues, The Adventures of Joe Dirt finds the magnificently caustic David Spade emasculated by a sentimental script and shapeless, haphazard cutting. Spade plays the title character, a white-trash orphan in search of the parents who abandoned him at the Grand Canyon. The humor is supposed to come from Joe's misadventures, his redneck gullibility, and his encounters with such figures as a serial killer, a wacked-out janitor (Christopher Walken), and a lovable gal (Jamie Pressly) who may, unfortunately, turn out to be his sister. But the squishier requirements of the story, requiring the audience to feel deeply for the pain of Spade's caricature, are an irritant and force Spade to veer from the nastier stuff he does so well. With Kid Rock, Dennis Miller. --Tom Keogh

4 out of 5 stars Silly, but with heart.......2007-09-06

I liked this movie ... and I'm an old guy who should supposedly know better. I know the 'critics' bombed it, with some reviews almost sounding like they didn't watch it. Of course, 'critics' liked 'Everybody Loves Raymond.' I'm glad to see Amazon customers have some heart. Joe liked animals and was a good guy ... and the movie makers didn't sell him out for cheap laughs (well, you know, CRUEL cheap laughs).

5 out of 5 stars Funny movie.......2007-04-29

I thought this movie was kind of sad too because this movie starred a loser joe dirt (david spade) who every one makes fun of or even bullys him and he's just a lonley person who spents his whole life searching for his parents who left him in the grand canyon to die or something. But yet he travels the united states and makes friends and a hot girlfriend who by the way joe doesn't know she loves him he finds jobs around the united states to make money on the road for the search of his parents. Now you all got to wonder something how on earth can you lose your parents like that and wonder how come all these years they never came back to look for you. This was hilariously funny but it was sad how he never got the picture that his parents were corrupted bad people who just left him out there on purpose.

4 out of 5 stars Dang!.......2006-04-12

This is one of those movies that's so stupid, it's funny... There are a host of amusing characters that Joe Dirt encounters along his journey to find the white-trash parents who abandoned him in his youth. Joe Dirt learns from each of them, and vice versa - and there are funny moments all along.

It certainly doesn't compare all too well when held up to Spade's previous work with Chris Farley in Tommy Boy and Black Sheep, but it's got enough stupid humor to keep most comedy fans happy. I enjoyed this movie a great deal and I recommend it highly.

5 out of 5 stars Joe Dirt - a laughfest.......2006-02-16

This movie is absoulutely funny. It makes you laugh all the way through. The cast couldn't have been picked better and the storyline is original. It's jokes about his hair and T-shirts are worth the watching all by themselves. The charecters are so hilarious because of their speech and mannerisms. For a good laugh, this is the one to watch over and over.

5 out of 5 stars Stairway to Hillbilly Heaven.......2007-01-16

What can one say? This is a dream coming true for anybody interested in Bluegrass, Country Rock, Singer/Songwriter or any other type of acoustic music, and to those who grew up on the very first "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" project. The music speaks for itself: each and every performance is unique, and even artists who are genuine different in style are kept together perfectly by the sheer unlimited versatility of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Moreover, the presence of everyone onstage is captured brilliantly on film, and the musical interaction is well synchronised in pictures. A special highlight to my own taste are the arrangements of two traditional Gospel songs, "All Prayed Up" and "I Find Jesus", presented in Scruggs-style finger-picking on the guitar by John McEuen, otherwise best known for his banjo skills. These and the overall title "Farther Along" underline the spiritual quality within this music, as it is an expression of pure emotion. Add the superb live sound, and each possible superlative has been exhausted. A sad notion: Vassar Clements has passed away. If it wasn't for his recordings alone, this film will be his stairway to eternity.

5 out of 5 stars Nitty Gritty Dirt Band - Farther Along.......2006-03-18

Excellent - the only track that is oversold was the one for Jerry Douglas. The banjo lead predominated the track. Overall the DVD was super & the finish by Dement capped the whole ride prior to the signature Will The Circle finish.

5 out of 5 stars Great performance by the Dirt Band; excellent bonus material.......2005-05-12

Having a lot of Nitty Gritty Dirt Band music in my collection, I decided to get the Farther Along DVD. This live performance features the five Dirt Band guys--Jeff Hanna, Jimmy Ibbotson, Jimmie Fadden, Bob Carpenter, and John McEuen--along with a number of high-quality guest artists. The guest performers include Jimmy Martin, Alison Krauss, Vince Gill, John Hiatt, Vassar Clements, Jerry Douglas, Earl Scruggs, the McCoury Band(Dale, Robbie and Ronnie), Rosanne Cash, Taj Mahal, and Iris DeMent. The cast of performers is stellar, and there are a lot of highlights.

The performance gets off to a rousing start. Jimmy Martin, a veteran bluegrass performer, has appeared on all of NGDB's Will The Circle Be Unbroken records, and his rendition of "My Walkin' Shoes"(from the Dirt Band's original Circle album) draws a lot of applause. From then on, things get even better. Alison Krauss' vocals shine on "Catfish John". The McCourys' "Love Please Come Home" is a traditional bluegrass tune. "Mama's Opry", sung by Iris DeMent, and "Oh Cumberland", with Matraca Berg(Mrs. Jeff Hanna) singing, are both tender ballads. John Hiatt and Rosanne Cash perform "One Step Over The Line", which they sang on the Dirt Band's second Circle album. Earl Scruggs does some awesome banjo picking on "Earl's Breakdown". On Earl's classic tune, Vassar Clements plays fiddle, Jerry Douglas plays dobro, and Randy Scruggs backs up his father on lead guitar. "All Prayed Up", sung by Vince Gill, and "I Find Jesus", with NGDB's Ibbotson singing lead, are solid gospel numbers. Blues artist Taj Mahal's "Fishin' Blues" is a bouncy, humorous number. The show-stealing performance, however, is "The Lowlands", featuring vocals and guitar work by Jaime Hanna and Jonathan McEuen--the sons, respectively, of NGDB members Jeff Hanna and John McEuen. Jaime and Jonathan, in my opinion, are every bit as talented as their fathers. The entire cast of performers joins NGDB on "Will The Circle Be Unbroken", which by now has become a Dirt Band classic. A major strength of this DVD is the Dirt Band's performance of music which emphasizes their bluegrass and straight country roots as opposed to their modern country songs which have brought them commercial success while still drawing from their traditional sound.

Besides the Dirt Band's live concert performance, the Farther Along DVD has some excellent bonus material. First off, the extras include three additional songs which were in NGDB's original live show: Earl Scruggs and John McEuen's banjo instrumental "Soldier's Joy", the McCourys' "Take Me In Your Lifeboat", and Rosanne Cash's "Wildwood Flower". Maybelle Carter sang the latter song on the Dirt Band's first Circle album, and Rosanne's version is nearly as good. The music video of "The Lowlands", which got some airplay on Great American Country, is also included here, and I think the video is well-done with some great scenery. Finally, Farther Along includes a documentary about the making of the third Circle album, featuring interviews with the members of the Dirt Band and the guest artists as well as behind-the-scenes studio footage. Those of you who like NGDB--or just like music in general--will enjoy this "up close and personal" look at the Dirt Band. It features a stellar concert performance as well as a backstage look at how things all came together.

3 out of 5 stars Hate to say it, but disappointing..........2007-07-05

I should first say that I am not a mother and I do not have small children. However, I have always been fascinated by children's programming that cleverly and simultaneously caters to the attention of adults.

I purchased this DVD for a toddler friend of ours who knows more about different types of trucks and machinery than the average adult. The many positive reviews on Amazon, along with the Grammy-winning songwriter involved in this video, led me to think this DVD would be something the adults in this house would enjoy watching as much as their child. I was so disappointed to hear that the "I Dig Dirt" song was simply "Frère Jacques" with different words, and I was surprised that there are only a couple of trucks/machines covered in this DVD.

5 out of 5 stars Even adults like this.......2007-06-27

This is interesting both for an young child and adult. We sing along with the music and the words to the songs, on the screen, help with word recognition. But the gigantic diggers and trucks working in those mines fascinate kids. Really worth going through the promo at the beginning.

5 out of 5 stars Great Call.......2007-06-14

I would recommend this video to anyone that has a little boy. The machines are amazing. As a parent it's a fun video because the magnitude of the diggers is pretty facinating. Plus - he now sings the song whenever he sees a digger of any sort. It's Barney with testosterone.

4 out of 5 stars Favorite DVD Video.......2007-03-09

Our 2 year old grandson loves diggers and this video is watched over and over. He often sings the Digger song throughout the day. For the adults in the family watching this video over and over at 6:30 in the morning can be a little much. But it gives early morning quiet time. This video is a must for any child who loves diggers. It is a much requested DVD.

5 out of 5 stars Domenic.......2007-01-17

My 2 1/2 yr old grandson, Domenic,so loved this DVD that he would play it over and over again. While we adults found it interesting, we were not sure it was oriented to such a young child, but Dom would view it intently and after a few times he hurried over to his toybox, pulled out a hardhat and now wears it every time he watches! However, he re-named this DVD "big messy" in babytalk!

5 out of 5 stars Two year old loves it.......2007-06-27

My 2 yr. old grandson adores this video and as a teacher, I like it, also.He watches it every time he comes over and knows all the names of the different machines. It shows the different "diggers" up close and doing their jobs. There is good explanation of what they are doing, and the spelling and letters make this a learning experience, also. Much better than some I have purchased,

5 out of 5 stars Excellent video for boys.......2007-03-09

I have both all three monster truck, because it was so fun to watch.

5 out of 5 stars WE NEED MORE OF THESE VIDEOS!.......2007-01-16

My 15-month-old son is in LOVE with the Totally Trucks series! He loves watching the footage of the machinery and actually dances to the score. He likes when the kids shout greetings to the machines (usually this makes him clap and giggle).

I love the fact that the educational elements are presented within a fun context like "can you find" games. The repetition of the concepts is really helping him learn, too.

My son is eating up these 3 DVDs. Please make more!

5 out of 5 stars Awesome!!.......2007-01-16

I got this DVD as a gift for my 17 month old daughter. I wasn't sure if it would hold her attention - boy, was I surprised! She LOVES it! She escecially enjoys dancing to the music. For my part, I like the fact that it teaches her something while entertaining her. I'm about to buy Garbage Monsters and Metal Monsters to round out our collection.

2 out of 5 stars Movie is good, music is terrible!.......2007-01-12

My 3 year old loves tractors, so he could watch this DVD all day. There is no way I could though! The music does not go with the movie at all. And I hate to say it, but if you were just listening, and not watching, you would think it was an adult film. Yeah, I know! The trucks are great, I just wish it had "truck" kind of music to go along with it!

5 out of 5 stars GUYVER!.......2005-10-12

Alright here is the Deal Guyver 1 the 1st movie was alright. But Guyver 2 Dark Hero is a BIG STEP UP!! It is a great movie. Acting is somewhat kinda iffy sometimes. But good non the less! I was dissapointed that Guyver III wasn't in the movie. I mean I figred sence they did the 1st one they would bring more people from the original anime adult cartoons. Over all freaking 5 stars its one of the best movies out there. I say buy this and buy the DVD Set for the Anime version I kinda think it's better than the movies. And if you are pleased with Dark Hero and all 12 episodes, then get the 1st live action Guyver movie.

4 out of 5 stars low budget sci-fi gem.......2005-06-22

When you watch a lot of low-budget sci-fi films, you can't help but realize there's a lot of terrible stuff out there. Stuff so bad that it's not even funny. But every once in a while, between the terrible stuff, and the unintenionally amusing films, you discover something like this. I've seen this a couple of times, and every time I just enjoy the heck out of it. It shows what imagination, clever writing, and a good special effects crew can accomplish even with limited resources.

The story is good, and the acting, while not always great, is always solid. But what really gets me about this film is the action sequences, strange hybrids of mutant monsters and bizarrely improbably kung fu. Since I enjoy both these genres, it's nice to have a film blend them so well. They're a blast.

This is based on some anime show which I'm only vaguely familiar, but it seems true to the original concept. That's a neat trick, since animation doesn't always crossover into live action as gracefully as in this film.

See it if you like some over the top action with an interesting story. "Guyver 1" is okay, though not nearly as good. If you've seen the first and didn't like it, give this one a shot. And if you haven't seen the first, it won't stop you from enjoying this film.

Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars "One of THE Best Movies Based On An Anime".......2005-04-27

Anyone who saw the first Guyver movie and didn't like it, don't worry. This movie is AWESOME! For one, I have both animes on DVD. If you pay attention to the anime and movie, you will notice similarities between them. One is where Sean jumps off the cliff and changes into the Guyver in midair! In the anime, he jumped off a fence at his school (very high up) and did the exact same thing. Steve Wang and his crew did an excellent job.
David Hayter I believed delivered a strong performance that is worthy of attention. Also, let's not forget that the first movie never showewd him using his laser (located above the Control Metal) even once! The fight scenes are superb (especially the fight between the Guyver and the Guyver Zoanoid). The only thing that I disliked was some of the dialouge, but it's forgivable. Anyone who likes sci-fi or anime based films, this is one I highly recommend to pick up.

3 out of 5 stars Ok but unlike the Anima.......2005-04-02

Im a fan of the Guyver Manga and Anima and i was exited to see a live action movie.

The Guyver costume looked cool and the Zoanoids were superb BUT.

The fighs sucked to put it lightly thay were just two power ranger-ish

The Guyver phyicly is able to punch cleanly through a Zoanoids armored chest a fight between ALL the lowerlevel Zoanoids in the movie would only take Sho a mater of minuets to destroy for friken sake had the producers even SEEN the Anima

i mean at the begining of the film when Sean sttacked the guy with his vibration blade it should have easerly beheaded him.

Apart from that the story was good and the acting was smooth

An over all good expereance and id love to see another one
