Even skeptical fans of the Blade franchise will enjoy sinking their teeth into Blade: Trinity. The law of diminishing returns is in full effect here, and the franchise is wearing out its welcome, but let's face it: any movie that features Jessica Biel as an ass-kicking vampire slayer and Parker Posey--yes, Parker Posey!--as a vamping vampire villainess can't be all bad, right? Those lovely ladies bring equal measures of relief and grief to Blade, the half-human, half-vampire once again played, with tongue more firmly in stone-cold cheek, by Wesley Snipes. With series writer David S. Goyer in the director's chair, the film is calculated for mainstream appeal, trading suspenseful horror for campy humor and choppy, nonsensical action. The franchise still offers some intriguing ideas, however, including Drake (Dominic Purcell), the original vampire, whose blood contains the secret that could destroy all blood-suckers in a plot that incorporates a sinister "blood farm" where humans are held--and drained--in suspended animation. And Biel's wise-cracking sidekick (Ryan Reynolds) in her cadre of "Nightstalkers" provides comic relief in a series that's grown increasingly dour. All of which makes Blade: Trinity a love-it-or-hate-it sequel... supposedly the last in a trilogy, but the ending suggests otherwise. --Jeff Shannon

Description

This DVD was to add to our collection, and the service of the vender was great.

4 out of 5 stars blade + dracula = pretty dang cool.......2007-07-14

I was worried that the final movie in the trilogy would run out of ideas, and was afraid it would be so far different than the first film, since Blade 2 already took it to another direction from the first. Trinity actually returns a bit to the original movie, but with still some fresh ideas in the mix, and the coolest of all - the return of Dracula.

In Trinity, the vampires are back without the virus that infected them in the 2nd film. They bring back the oldest and purest vampire to ever live who goes by many names, but most familiar is "Dracula" He is able to walk in daylight, and they are hoping to use him to be able to do the same. Meanwhile, Blade is set up for murdering a human, and becomes the number one wanted criminal in the town. The new charcaters eneter the scene - Hannibal King (Ryan Reynolds) and Abagail Whistler (Jessica Biel) who help Blade and introduce him to their group of vampire hunters.

Surprisingly, the addition of two more heores to the film was played out nicely. Unlike Batman & Robin (a film that stank no matter how you look at it) the adiditon of Robin and Bat Girl was ridiculous and pushed Batman aside. Not in Blade Trinity. Everyone has their own space, and fights their own fights. Another good thing about this film is it improves over the 2nd with much less use of CGI. The fights look real again, much like in the first film. As far as fights go, I found there to be plenty of action, but actually less overall compared to the first two films. While Blade's final one on one in Blade 2 was my favorite in the trilogy, his fight against Dracula was rather spectacular too. Hannibal king also gets to fight a huge vampire bare fisted, played by Triple H - who not surprsingly gets in a few rather cool wrestling moves.

Overall, Trinity is a pleasing end to the trilogy. It actually opens more doors in a way than closes, but Spike TV went on to create Blade the series in 2006, which is worth checking out if its available to you. In Trinity, I enjoyed the plot more than Blade 2, but in the end the first Blade is supreme. The entire trilogy though, is one of the coolest trilogies ever created - go get it today.

2 out of 5 stars NOT AS GOOD AS THE ORIGINAL! 2 1/2 STARS.......2007-06-25

Once again, they blow it. The first Blade was great! The second and third are just OK. They are better than some other Marvel Comics movies, but they are no where near as good as the first film.

1 out of 5 stars The Third movie curse strikes again!.......2007-06-18

The third installment in the Blade series is a true disappointment and a sad conclusion to a promising trilogy. Wesley Snipes phones in a poor performance and the ussually good Dominic Percell is badly miscast as Dracula.
David Goyer, who wrote the previous two installments, seems bored with the task of completing his trilogy and shows that he hasn't quite mastered the art of directing yet. Blade the character is all but ommited from this movie, to be replaced by Ryan Reynold's and Jessica Beil's Nightstalkers. And Kriss Kristopherson's Whistler character is pointlessly killed off after he was ressurected in the last movie (for reasons abandoned in this one).
The tone of the film leans, sadly, toward the camp end of the spectrum, and some of the humor and one-liners may leave the bad tast of "Batman and Robin" in some viewer's mouths. while the special effects are clunky, as opposed to the cutting edge stuff seen in the previously in the series. The only bright spot in the movie is Ryan Reynolds as Hannibal King, who steals the show, but even Ryan can't save this mediocre mess. What a shame that the first Blade series, which saved comic book adaptations after the appaling "Batman and Robin", languishes here in what should have been a great movie. Watch Blade and Blade 2, but skip this one and go watch Blade: The series, which is by far superior to this dreck.

5 out of 5 stars Blade Trinity.......2007-04-06

Wow!! For a Blade junkie ( I have all three)This three series blast
has something new in every one, not like some three series or four
series we have wasted our money on. The new characters of Abigail
(Jessica Biel)(miss hottie) as they call her in the movie is stunning
and is headed on the fast track to Stardom. This hot chic can ACT. Watch for her in more
action flicks. Who knows , with Angelina Jolie, taking care of
all those kids (bless her heart)no, really. But I believe that Jessica
"Babe"Biels with the right long brown hair and the pointed chest could
make a great Laura Croft. And another eye candy in this film is Hannibal
( Ryan Reynolds). I have already seen him in a few films and he just
needs to keep pumping that iron and have those chained up shirtless body
shots and he is Hollywood royalty. I haven't mentioned our friend
Wesley Snipes, otherwise known as "Blade". he is great as always...
in this film and he really plays the straight man to the two new
characters mentioned above. This movie is one to buy and keep. The movie
starts with vampire action and doesn't stop till the end. So without
giving up too much info, the vampires need help from an ancient source,
and they want to kill Blade, of course...the " day walker" that he is.
The movie has special effects that will have you gapping, and all the vampire
killing gear has all been upgraded. It is funny, sad, corny, heart stopping
great sword fights and don't get in the way of Jessica, she shoots a mean
bow and arrow. It must have cost a lot of money to make this...because
things are blowing up all over the place. don't rent it--BUY IT! *****
it away, it is vampire uno verses Blade and his gang. If you don't get my hint

A philosophical quandary: when we truly get a glimpse behind the mask, do we like what we see? This eternal question is directly addressed in chapter 7 of the famed Friday the 13th gross-out series. Here, indestructible killing machine Jason meets his match in the form of a telekinetic teenage girl. Yes, it's "Carrie Goes Camping," although the young lady with special powers might have picked a better vacation spot than Crystal Lake, which has an awful track record for young blondes in tight jeans. This installment is exactly no better or worse than the previous Jason-o-ramas, with the added bonus of a climax in which the imperturbable Mr. Voorhees actually duels someone with supernatural gifts to rival his own. Yes, he does lose his hockey mask (the heroine mind-wills it to pop off), and the results ain't pretty--but then, neither is the Friday the 13th franchise. --Robert Horton

3 out of 5 stars The Story Was Brilliant...The Execution Is Horrible.......2007-09-07

I did like this, only because I could see the brilliant story the group failed to execute. The idea of having Jason fight someone who is a match for him is ingenious, and to have it as someone who doesn't have to be near him to hurt him was all the more brilliant.

The Problem: The director didn't know how to tell this story properly. Maybe the screenwriter was lazy and figured he could slap the story together and people would be sold. Not in this case. The movie comes off too camp. As if it's supposed to be scary yet silly at the same time. The acting really brought down first and foremost, the plotholes are an after thought when you figure the most convincing person in the movie doesn't utter a single word of dialogue.

However, I did enjoy this and still love it when the horrific plot hole of an ending glares up.

I recommend this, although I'll probably be kicked for making this recommendation.

1 out of 5 stars Jason vs. Carrie...but stupid. .......2007-07-25

Calling Friday the 13th part VII: The New Blood an unnecessary sequel is overstating the obvious, but Paramount Pictures needs your money. John Carl Buechler directs the first movie featuring Kane Hodder in the role of Jason Voorhees. He plays Jason in each subsequent sequel, but not in Freddy vs. Jason. Buechler is capable of handling the direction of this film in the same way a monkey is capable of throwing his excrement. Buechler is a natural at producing films like this. After all, he did bring us Troll and Ghoulies III: Ghoulies Go to College.

Tina Shepard saw her father bullying her mother about, and she got upset enough to reveal that she has telekinetic powers. So she killed her dad and made him drown at the bottom of Crystal Lake. Years later, Tina begins to have her powers studied by a doctor who just so happens to be located on that same lake. She attempts to raise her father from his watery grave but as it turns out she wakes up Jason instead. Jason kills a bunch of people and then Tina confronts him and they fight. She ends up resurrecting her father after all of this and he takes Jason back into the lake with him. Her father looks to be in surprisingly great shape for a dead guy who has been underwater for several years. Good for him.

In short, this was basically Jason vs. Carrie. There is nothing really good to say here other than to mention a few of the deaths. Obviously it is hysterical when Jason kills the girl in the sleeping bag but given the relatively serious theme of the film, I just couldn't enjoy as much as I would've had it been in part 6 or when it was redone in Jason X. There seemed to be a genuine effort here to make a decent movie and that just serves to make The New Blood even worse. It is definitely one of the worst movies in the series.

5 out of 5 stars KANE HODDER IS THE PERFECT JASON!.......2007-05-14

THIS MOVIE IS GREAT!TINA HAS TELEKINETIC POWERS.SHE ACCIDENTLY BRINGS JASON BACK TO LIFE.JASON KNOWS SHE'S DIFFERENT.JASON LIKES HER ALOT-YOU CAN TELL.I LIKE THE PARTS WHEN JASON FLIRTS WITH TINA-JASONS WAY OF FLIRTING.AND WHEN HE CHASES THE MAN THROUGH THE WOODS WITH THE CHAINSAW.KANE HODDER HAS THE ROLE OF JASON PERMANENTLY NOW-STARTING WITH THIS PART.KANE IS PERFECTION!HE BRINGS A CERTAIN SOMETHING TO JASON.

5 out of 5 stars KANE HODDER IS EXCELLENT!.......2007-04-28

KANE HODDER TAKES OVER THE ROLE OF JASON.HE DOES AN EXCELLENT JOB!ANOTHER EXCELLENT MOVIE!TINA HAS TELEKINETIC POWERS.JASON LIKES TINA BECAUSE HE KNOWS SHE'S DIFFERENT.HE KILLS EVERYBODY BUT NOT HER.HE NEVER GOES AFTER HER TO KILL HER-ONLY TO SEE WHAT SHE'S CAPABLE OF DOING.I LOVE THE PARTS WHEN HE STARTS THE CHAINSAW UP TO KILL THE MAN,AND WHEN HE JUMPS THROUGH THE WINDOW GOING AFTER TINA.KANE HODDER BRINGS A SEXINESS TO JASON!

4 out of 5 stars Death Scenes Cut, But That Is What Jason Does Best!.......2007-01-26

"The New Blood" is definitely my favorite movie in the series, not only does Jason look great in the movie, but it is also the debut of Kane Hodder! This movie is worth the price alone just for how well Voorhees looks in the movie, this is definitely my favorite look by far. His spine and rib cage are clearly visible, so I guess it goes to show people what spending too much time in the water can do to your skin. I highly recommend this movie to fans of the series and this is a great film to see if you have never seen any other movie in the series, this is the one! The only problem with the movie is that the death scenes are cut and not up to standards of some other movies, so that is the reason I gave it a four star rating instead of five.

Description

Winner of the Audience and Director's Awards at the Sundance Film Festival, the deeply affecting MY FLESH AND BLOOD follows one remarkable family's most tumultuous year as it confronts a litany of daily routines, celebrates life's small pleasures, and copes with major crises. Who says you can't choose your family? "I think when I found that I could survive raising four kids, that it wasn't that far of a leap to add another one," says Susan Tom of Fairfield, California, who has done more than just that, adopting 11 special needs children. For a single mother who receives only limited help from the state, Susan gives her kids love, hope, and as close to a normal childhood has possible. Her limits are tested, however, when her angry teenage son threatens one of his siblings. And after another child's condition becomes erratic, the entire family learns that living for the moment is the keystone to happiness. Tenderly directed by Jonathan Karsh, MY FLESH AND BLOOD presents a family portrait like no other--a bittersweet and unforgettable experience filled with unexpected humor, stirring pathos, and an optimistic view towards morality.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars One of the most moving movies I have ever seen........2007-07-09

Charity personified. An unforgetable portrait of courage and sacrifice on the part of the mom, and of courage and tenacity in the children. This movie speaks to the meaning of life (which is never seen in modern media).

4 out of 5 stars hard to believe.......2007-01-25

Susan Tom is a divorced, single mother in California who after having two biological children adopted eleven handicapped children. This emotionally intense documentary film is not about a smiley Brady Bunch, but about a raucous household of children with serious and severe problems--mental, physical, emotional and medical. Faith was horribly disfigured in a fire as an infant. Xenia was born with no legs. Teenager Joe is a deeply angry and explosive child who threatens to kill Xenia; he eventually dies from Cystic Fibrosis. Others are mentally retarded. Susan describes herself as "fat but interesting." Both adjectives understate the case. She does not work outside the home, but instead supports everyone, and her $600 a week grocery bill, from SSI income. Margaret, age 18, is unwillingly conscripted to help make it all work, and breaks down in screams to get her mother's attention. Perhaps the mark of a fine film is that in watching it you think far more about its subjects than about how they are portrayed. My Flesh and Blood won the Audience Documentary Award at the 2003 Sundance festival.

5 out of 5 stars a good look at an unbelievable situation.......2007-01-16

This is an excellent, well made documentary. I like documentaries because in real life, we don't get the binary good-person/bad-person thing we do in fiction. Watching this movie, you see good things and bad things in all of the characters and in the living situation in which they find themselves. I couldn't help but be drawn into this documentary, and would recommend it to anyone with interest in adoption, family dynamics, individuals with special needs, or just looking for a good movie.

5 out of 5 stars My Flesh and Blood- Anthony Tom.......2007-01-06

One of the best documentaries I have ever seen. A family composed of a mother and thirteen children, eleven of them adopted, is followed for a year of their lives in such a way that each child can be appreciated as an individual, without disabilities or other special needs overshadowing the person. The extra features are excellent, too, especially the discussion between the filmmaker and the mother.

5 out of 5 stars My Flesh & Blood.......2007-01-03

Really great movie and it was from a real life experience so I enjoyed it even more. It is amazing what some people go through and still maintain their sanity as well as never giving up on people.

all those kids (bless her heart)no, really.

    Customer Reviews:

    2 out of 5 stars A B Movie At Its Most Boring...........2005-10-24

Like another reviewer said, let's face facts, a lot of vampire films are either dull, weird, or downright dumb. Dull and a little stupidity makes this vampire film what it is.
It looked like an interesting vampire film at the video rental place. It looked a lot better than some of the other vampire films there. And though the movie I don't hate, I found extremely boring. Hardly anything happened. Most of the time they just talked and snarled at each other and these young ones were just dumb fledglings that are weak and destructive. Hardly as refined and secretive as the old ones, and you wonder why the old ones don't do anything about it. The old ones just sit there and talk and talk with one female that obviously sleeps around as a hobby...boring. Then these vampire hunters are hardly anything more than the stereotypical kind. This whole movie drips with stereotype. Except for the fact these vampires can go out at day, and usually always are. Hardly any real characters to care for, and the plot itself is one- minded besides the lead male vampire having the hots for a human female, which I could have cared less about. Nothing really new in this film that gives any spark, nor an interest. I would not recommend it. Try to find a better vampire film. A B movie at its most boring.

    1 out of 5 stars Homogenized & fang-free -- not undead but certainly un-fun.......2005-01-08

It's not scary, it's not sexy, it's not bloody, it's not intriguing. It's almost always daytime and it's not even worth the 84 min runtime.

Remember the characters in those '80s nighttime soaps? Dallas and the like? Imagine those lifeless shells as vampires and you've got this movie. Expect to see people walking the beach alone, pining alone in bed. Plotting endlessly, yet acting little.

3 out of 5 stars Pretty Good as vampire movies go.......2004-04-12

Let's face it, if you're a fan of the genre, you know that most vampire movies suck (no pun intended). This one doesn't. It's actually pretty good, especially if you like a view that's sympathetic to the vampires. The vampires in this movie are a subspecies of humans, with their own society and laws. Sounds sort of like Kindred, The Embraced, doesn't it? It even has the stylish old-world vampires at odds with the younger, rebel vampires. It also has the beautiful blonde human reporter who's in love with one of the vampires. The movie has some good twists, attractive women, cool settings...and it's entertaining.

    4 out of 5 stars I Love This Movie!.......2003-08-02

This is one of the few vampire movies I could watch again and again. It's not very gory but it's very entertaining nonetheless. It stars Jason London, and he plays his role as that of vampire-who-doesn'-t know-he's-a-vampire very well. Blood Ties has its very funny moments as well (I'm not sure they were supposed to be that funny...). Get this movie today. Happy watching!

3 out of 5 stars Views more like a murder drama than a vampire movie..........2003-03-11

Frankly, I'm surprised it even got an R rating. The story isn't half bad, except they break the cardinal rule that vampires can't exist in the daylight. In most ways they don't even seem like vampires--just a strange branch of humanity who can feed on blood when riled enough. Anyway, don't expect any nudity. What scenes there are could probably be boadcast without censorship, in my opinion. The violence must be what makes it restricted, but again compared to most vampire movies of today, the violence is very tame.

If you're looking for a borderline R vampire flick to watch with teen members of the family, this is it. Enjoy the tale. But, hardcore horror fans will think this extremely disappointing....

Is it possible that you might have been used as a medical guinea pig without your knowledge? ABC News reports on a medical experiment on unsuspecting accident patients brought into hospital ERs that has been happening in more than 20 cities across the country. What is being tested is an experimental, artificial blood substitute known as Polyheme, developed by a company called Northfield Labs. The sponsors of the study say using accident victims for the experiment without their consent is necessary for the greater good to safe lives of severely injured patients in the future. But critics call the test an unconscionable breach of medical ethics and a violation of the fundamental notion of informed consent. Correspondent: Brian Ross. Description

There is the patent unfairness of a child, already suffering from hemophilia, having to bear the additional burden of AIDS which Ryan White apparently contracted through medical pro-ducts that were supposed to help his blood clotting. There is the fury that any parent would feel, witnessing the disgraceful treatment that Ryan received from some people, and the understanding that many parents would feel the concern, "Are my children endangered by contact with Ryan?" In a rare interview, Ryan and his mother show Nightline what it's like to live with HIV while dealing with the trials of growing up. Correspondent: Gail Harris

Yep Mr. Johnson AKA Mr. Strange (Arthur Roberts) came to our planet to borrow a little liquid protein that is sorely lacking back home. He has no scruples as to how to obtain it.

He finds that transfusion is the popular procedure and with the help of Dr. Rochelle (Ace Mask), borrows his cute nurse Nadine Story (Traci Lords, "Serial Mom" (1984)), to do the deed. As Mr. Johnson steps up his procedures to obtain the necessary before the dead line, we watch Nadine get suspicious.

This is a great remake of the 1957 Rodger Corman classic, not to forget that Michael York was in a 1995 version. In this version there was more flesh than blood. However this could have been better without the modern gratuities slasher scene.

The background always has this synthesizer quasi fifty's music. With such hits as:
        "Women are like Tanks"
        "You make me horny"
        "Invasion of the body snatchers"
        "Room at the bottom"

5 out of 5 stars A Cold War Classic Goes Camp.......2005-06-15

Former adult film actress Tracy Lords stars in her first mainstream film role as a nurse wearing a skin-tight and super- short uniform in this 1988 remake of Roger Corman's rarely seen NOT OF THIS EARTH.

This remake is purebred camp. Lords is entertaining to watch and turns in a very credible rookie performance onscreen. It's well worth your time if you're in a lighthearted mood.

The plots of the original and the remake are identical. The aliens' mission is a simple one: to suck the blood of the human race, to short-circuit our brains with direct eye contact, and to collect various specimens for study and experimentation back on their home planet.

Roger Corman created a 1957 film that transcended its science-fiction genre and became instead a period-piece artifact of Middle American Cold War paranoia, McCarthyism and race tension.

In the original, those who are not of this earth are humanoid creatures who speak in suspiciously thick Eastern European accents, behave mysteriously, dress in undertakers' suits, Ray Ban sunglasses and homburg hats (and MUST have inspired Belushi and Akroyd in creating the Blues Brothers).

In the earlier film, Corman makes a piercing social commentary when his Iron Curtain outworlders categorize our species either as "humans" (whites) or "subhumans" (people of color).

Unfortunately for the original, most viewers over the years have seen the aliens' labeling as an example of racism rather than an indictment of it. As a result, the original NOT OF THIS EARTH is never broadcast and is only available through very limited outlets.

Lords' film limits its social commentary to important issues, like beer and burgers.

Besides Lords' recommended 1988 comic remake there was a dramatic version made in 1995. The 1995 remake with Michael York is absolutely forgettable.

So have a good time watching Tracy learn how to act in wardrobe, and if you can find the 1957 original definitely give it a viewing as well.

4 out of 5 stars Corman + Wynorski + Lords = Loads of Cheesy Fun.......2004-07-07

Roger Corman is executive producer and schlock-meister Jim Wynorski is director of 1988's NOT OF THIS EARTH, a campy remake of the campy Corman-directed classic. And in typical Corman style, it offers everything a B-movie fan could want: A goofy tongue-in-cheek plot that is barely more than a re-hash of the original; cheesy special FX, a good number of which were lifted from other Corman films; mediocre acting from some of the supporting cast; and lots of gratuitous female nudity. And also as with most films in which Corman has his hands, it is LOTS of fun to watch.

Gorgeous former hardcore adult-film star Traci Lords--here in her first "legit" starring role and the last role in which she completely disrobes for the camera--portrays a private-care nurse who unwittingly assists an extraterrestrial vampire in draining low-lifes and bimbos of their blood so that he can send the vital red stuff back to the hungry folks on his home planet of Devanna. It doesn't take long, though, before the nurse and her policeman boyfriend (Roger Lodge--yes, THAT Roger Lodge) begin to suspect that something strange and dangerous is going on. But can they solve the mystery quickly enough to save the city's remaining low-lifes and bimbos?

During the shooting and post-production of this film, there was a lot of hullabaloo about Traci Lords being cast in the lead role. Many thought that casting the former star of XXX-rated films was just a gimmick to gain publicity for the project, and while it did indeed do that, Ms. Lords' performance in NOT OF THIS EARTH is top-notch and professional and acquits her of the charges of being nothing more than shapely eye-candy. And for the most part, the other actors do a great job of supporting Ms. Lords. Arthur Roberts--looking like one of THE BLUES BROTHERS (1980)--delightfully parodies the stoic, awkward, out-of-his-element extraterrestrial that has become a sci-fi cliché. As the alien's clueless butler and chauffeur, Lenny Juliano has good onscreen chemistry with star Lords and really hams it up. And actor Ace Mask, playing the doctor who assigns Lords to work with the alien, is delightfully quirky and a real hoot whenever he's on the screen.

The only odd casting choice is that of Roger Lodge for the role of Lords' boyfriend. Filmgoers may recognize Lodge from his gig as host of TV's flaky syndicated dating show BLIND DATE. While Lords' performance in this film demonstrates why she has become a ubiquitous presence on TV and on film, Lodge's performance demonstrates why he's been relegated to hosting a low-brow late-night TV show. Traci Lords and Roger Lodge in bed together? That ineffable mismatch is like something from Lodge's BLIND DATE.

Rumor has it that this film came about as the result of a wager between Corman and Wynorski that the younger director wouldn't be able to shoot an adequate remake if restricted to the same 12-day shooting schedule and a similar budget. Well, Wynorski rose to the challenge and actually succeeded. So yes, this version of NOT OF THIS EARTH is a cheap production with lots of cheap tongue-in-cheek humor, cheap over-the-top performances, cheap FX & recycled film footage, and cheap busty bimbos--not to mention the beautiful and classy Ms. Lords--providing gratuitous eye-popping T&A. Nobody has tried to deny that the film is a cheesefest. But it's a highly entertaining cheesefest nonetheless, and in many ways it is better and more fun than Corman's original.

The DVD treatment of NOT OF THIS EARTH from New Concorde is pretty cool, especially considering that the film itself is a low-budget quickie. The disc offers a nice digital transfer of the film, generally free of filmic or digital artifacts, in what is apparently the film's original aspect ratio of 1.33:1. As for bonus material, an optional feature commentary with director Wynorski and supporting actor Lenny Juliano is a real hoot--often times funnier and campier than the film itself--and Wynorski also manages to relate some interesting and humorous anecdotes regarding the making of the film and points out a few technical errors. Also offered is the requisite original theatrical trailer. All in all, it's a great DVD value.

In short, viewers who love low-budget B-grade SF and horror movies will enjoy the 1988 remake of NOT OF THIS EARTH and will certainly want to add this cool DVD to their collections. (Fans of gorgeous Traci Lords will want to give it a spin, too.) But those who don't comprehend the entertainment value of watching well-crafted schlock should probably spend their money elsewhere.

        4 out of 5 stars B Movie gets A Treatment!.......2004-06-01

NOT OF THIS EARTH was a 1988 remake of a 1950s Corman film which was widely touted as the first legitimate role for Traci Lords after she was exposed having been underage in the porn industry. It's cheesey drive-in fun! Traci and the cast do a good job with what they have, and the production is fun and never takes itself seriously. It's about a space vampire who comes to Earth for blood, and he hires a nurse (Traci Lords) and a manservant to help him out. But they both uncover that he is not what he seems and they try and stop him with some help from their friends. Nudity and cheesey horror abound, but Traci does not get racier than her infamous blue bikini!

The whole thing has b-movie writ large! You can see camera crews reflected in cars, a portrait moves around the house to EVERY room, and inserted footage from other Corman classics (Galaxy of Terror, Humanoids from the Deep) stand out like sore thumbs. But for some reason its a hoot, and very enjoyable. Fans of Traci will love it, and she really shows she can act. Anyone who can make me believe she's a suspicious nurse of a space vampire deserves the Oscar on effort alone! Meryl Streep never did that!

The extra on the DVD is the commentary by Corman veteran director Jim Wyronski. He's so funny on these things - he did a similar good job on the commentary for VAMPIRELLA (another Corman produced movie about a sexy space vampire!). So pop some popcorn and get ready for a cheesey good time.

        5 out of 5 stars a great B-movie.......2004-05-06

Truly amazing how Not of this earth' cheap story can provide such a good, enjoyable and entertaining movie!
The answer lies in the acting of Traci Lords, Lenny Juliano and Arthur Roberts. All of them contribute magnificently to the horror & suspense in this movie. More so, their acting get extra depth by the supportive down-to-earth play by Ace Mask (doctor) and Rodger Lodge (policeman). Add to this a little sex & fun (birthday girl), and the mix of it all makes Not of this earth a real great B-movie.
