1 out of 5 stars inept and boring.......2007-07-17

They call it brainless fun, but it's not even fun. Yes, "Stealth" is that not-rare-enough bad movie that's actually so bad, it's no fun. It looks like there were several story ideas considered for the movie - and "Stealth" just uses them all, developing none of them.

We start off with an elite team of pilots flying hyper-technology fighters - the F/A-37 Talon. They can do anything, but the team played by Jamie Foxx, Jessica Biel and Josh Lucas long more than anything else for a real mission to test their mettle. The opportunity comes when the team is detailed to an aircraft carrier - some chance at nabbing evil doers is inevitable. Unfortunately, it also teams our heroes up with EDI - an airplane with a mind of its own. When EDI decides that it has a better handle on its mission than its military handlers, it's up to the team to rein EDI in. Unfortunately, EDI's designers and its military design chief (played by Sam Shepard) can't afford to let the rest of the world learn of their psycho-UAV. Biel's character will eventually require rescue from hostile territory while Lucas will dogfight with and against EDI over Russia.

This was a horrible movie for so many reasons, at times utterly inept. You know the kind of movie that stuck-up critics complain about - the ones that are made only for teenage boys, when not even teenage boys will watch it? "Stealth" is that movie The flick is so determined to wow us with special effects, that we never stop realizing that we're watching an overlong CGI cartoon. (Recurring effects include impossible-without-CGI shots like those that seamlessly transition from a fighter plane in the distance to the interior.) The movie's other big flaw is that it never centers on a single story - there's an early subplot that has our heroes on vacation, followed by the disastrous debut of EDI (where it takes the characters an extra long time to realize what the audience pretty much pegged on first site: EDI is evil!!!)) followed by Lucas going up against a mysterious army of goons determined to keep EDI secret, followed by Biel evading capture in hostile N. Korea. The script never weaves these plot ideas - just discards the older for the newer.

Not quite as bad (until you factor in what this movie probably cost) is how sloppy it is, with all sorts of flubs or near-flubbery, all signifying that those who made this movie have a collective understanding of even basic aviation well below that of somebody cracking open "Microsoft Flight Simulator" for the first time. The designers over-did how futuristic their hardware was - never explaining why everything else looked much less sophisticated. EDI's voice effects sound more annoying than high-tech, and the interiors of our high-tech fighters (even accounting for technology) don't look convincingly like those of any aircraft. There's an explosive scene involving a huge floating gas tank - with accompanying visuals alternatively suggesting that it's standing still and zooming through the clouds at the same time, while an early battle scene has ground artillery positioned so that they're more likely to shoot each other than the flick's precious jets.

But worst of all, "Stealth" is just boring, raising the question of whether there's something inherent to military aviation that makes it impossible to base even a decent movie on.

EXCELLENT BLU-RAY !! The sound is 4.6 Mbps !! The definition is perfect !! I recomand it !!

4 out of 5 stars Blu-Ray version.......2007-05-12

Okay I am not going to bother reviewing the content as such, suffice to say that it is a futuristic idea of what the armed forces may look like.
The Blu-Ray version of this movie is definitely one to showcase this format the colour renditioning is superb and PQ is second to none. I would have given this 5 stars but I felt the audio, as is often the case with BD titles, let the production down. Not to say that it was bad but more that it could have been better.

3 out of 5 stars spotty video.......2007-05-12

a fun popcorn movie with some memorable scenes, the blue-ray version offers some fine detail in many scenes but bad color in some.black levels are lacking though.a good movie for your ps3 if it's on sale.

Featuring the best special effects that money can buy and a screenplay that any six-year-old could follow, Stealth is a pure action thriller that starts fast and never slows down. Moving up from The Fast and the Furious and xXx, director Rob Cohen proves himself as a master of popcorn entertainment for teenagers, turning this derivative military sci-fi action thriller into a dazzling showcase for impressive aerial action sequences, featuring digital effects and highly detailed model work (by James Cameron's Digital Domain effects company, among others) that are so realistic you could swear the movie's high-tech aircraft are absolutely real. The plot serves the effects (it should be the other way around), and it's a cheesy hybrid of Top Gun, The Right Stuff, Firefox and Behind Enemy Lines, in which a close-knit trio of Naval Air Force aces (Josh Lucas, Jessica Biel, and Jamie Foxx) pilot state-of-the-art "Talon" fighter-bombers, ready to scramble on orders from their not-entirely trustworthy commander (Sam Shepard). They're teamed up with an ultra-high-tech UCAV (Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle) nicknamed "EDI," an artificially intelligent fighter drone that's as erratically dangerous (after its circuitry is damaged by lightning) as it is deadly effective. With a standard third-act rescue mission amidst the threat of global warfare, Stealth is brainless entertainment from start to finish, but the aerial action and epic-scale pyrotechnics ensure that it's never, ever boring. Cohen may be guilty of dumbing down his recycled plots for mass appeal, but there's no denying his skills as an action auteur. Move over, Michael Bay, you've got serious competition. --Jeff Shannon

3 out of 5 stars For Those Who Need A Dose Of Action.......2007-09-08

If you are in need for a good dose of action, this is the film for you. By the end, you've had your "fix." Being someone who is fascinated by the Stealth bomber, I enjoyed most of the action. Only the last 15 minutes was irritating in its stupid action, not that the previous hour- plus was believable. At least it wasn't as ridiculous as those final scenes with Josh Lucas defeating 10-15 guys at once and Jessica Biel doing likewise.

The main story - human pilots flying Stealth bombers trying to stop a pilot-less, state-of-the- art totally computerized-driven Stealth which has gone wacky - is fun to watch. The latter is obviously very reminiscent of the computer "Hal" in the famous sci-fi film "2001: A Space Odyssey." There are more than just a few coincidences here as the computer reads lips of the people, has a mind of its own, etc. The big difference is that this updated-Hal has a heart, too. Yeah, it's really far-fetched.

However, if you can put your brain on hold for two hours and just enjoy some wild action shots, you'll enjoy this film. It's basically a fun ride.

1 out of 5 stars Utterly Idiotic.......2007-08-19

This is what happens when you combine the military with Beverly Hills, 90210. Pilots lecturing their superiors over the radio about the unacceptability of the civilian casualties they will inflict if they obey their orders? Let me tell you something. I don't care how much it cost to train them for their futuristic training, an armed committee would have been waiting for them on the deck of that aircraft carrier once they had landed -- and they never would have seen the inside of a military cockpit again (but, in all likelihood, would have seen the inside of prison cells).

A pilot who blasts his stereo aboard ship because...well, because he's just so darn cool and superior. Yeah, right, just try that in reality.

Multiple overseas locations with minimal rhyme or reason -- other than to give Jessica Biel a bikini scene opportunity or lend the movie some sense of James Bondian-jetsetting? That's what happens when you have no real storyline, marginally competent actors, paper-thin performances, and all-over-the-map movie direction.

Finally, the hero of the movie -- the unpiloted, super-intelligent drone (plane). It's ridiculous transformation into some sentient hero is something you'd see in a Walt Disney movie.

But at least Jessica wore a bikini (after confessing, so "convincingly," that she'd finally found a man who was man enough for her). Ugh.

2 out of 5 stars I am not happy!.......2007-08-11

C'mon people, Jamie Foxx drove a cab in Collateral like he was Mario Andretti, so now I am supposed to believe that he takes something that can do almost any angle or lift of movement and crash into a mountain? Oh and his last word was: "..oh" Sorry that did not cut it his last words would have been "dam sum btch the stick iz frozen probably made in japan why am I here chasing Short Circuit's cousin I should be in Iraq taking out insurgents oh great I left the iron on at home**" Game over

Yeah pretty faces on all the people in it, man that one girl is too hot though you know, there is no way they would have a General that would say "hey, you are too hot to fly this jet and be up there by yo-self come and be my personal assistant" yeah let us be realistic.

I was expecting Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer to get shot down in this thing but they are now working at Taco Bell or something. That is what happens when you wait so long for a sequel. Now that movie Flyboys they are not very good planes they only go like, 90 and you know they were probably watching this going "Oh man I wish I had that back when those Germans were strafing our fields" yo.

Hey good action in the skies but do not expect Top Gun II

2 out of 5 stars Such a waste.......2007-06-12

Boy talk about unfulfilled potential. This movie was it. A good cast wasted and a good idea put into a brainless plot. Sam Shepard made a good effort as always but he could not save this movie. Jamie Foxx also was doing a good up until he got killed in such a way you had to see it coming long before it happened. Let's see, what can I do that I know I shouldn't that will undoubtedly result in my death? Then he does it. Paleeeeze. Jessica Biel gets shot by the high powered rifle of a sniper then manages to cross 5 miles of rugged terrain to get rescued. There is nooooo way. Anyway, if you just want to watch some kind of cool aerial acrobatics done on computers, this is an okay film. Forget the plot, forget the acting. Do that and you can tolerate this one, although it had the potential to be so much more.

    2 out of 5 stars ICE T FIZZLES.......2005-03-24

I have yet to see how Ice T keeps getting roles in movies. He is such a bad actor, and he has no screen presence. Yet he keeps cropping up in inane movies like this one. This time he's a traitorous pilot who fakes his own death so he can resurface working for some drug or munitions lord and steal a stealth fighter to accomplish assassinations for the criminal. He is tracked by his former co-pilot, a straight arrow guy whose marriage is floundering because he spends too much time at work? Come on, ladies..you marry a military man, you expect this. Having recently seen HOT SHOTS 1 & 2, this is the kind of movie those gems spoofed; this would have been better had it been a spoof. Aside from Ice T's stony performance, we get Wishmaster's Andrew Divoff with some kind of phony accent; Costas Mandylor huffing and puffing his way through his standard role; Erika Eleniak pouting in her few scenes as Costas' estranged wife; and funniest of all, Ghostbusters' Ernie Hudson as the President of the United States.
It's all tastelessly dull and routine, and I give it two stars only because I finished watching it.

1 out of 5 stars Hey, what do you want anyway?.......2005-03-15

We have a competition to see who can find the worst movie. Then we watch it with a group of guys and call it "Men's Stupid Movie Night." This movie qualified, as do all of the movies by this director. It was pretty entertaining if viewed from that point of view. Bad dialogue, an incomprehensible plot, innappropriate and ultra cheesy sets, lousy "acting", stolen footage from other movies, no regard of military protocol, uniforms, weapons systems, and anything that resembles a real military situation. Since we invite our sons, we actually look for clean movies to mock, and this is full of gratuitous bad language, such as the scene where Ice T unloads a barrage of F-Bomb flak at the President of the United States. As Ice T states so succinctly, "What a wasthte!" I could not agree more.

1 out of 5 stars TYPICAL ACTION FILM; 1.5 STARS.......2004-09-14

    1 out of 5 stars Pretty laughable.......2004-05-07

Better-than-average special affects can't save the fact this movie doesn't even try in some other areas.

Ice-T plays an ex-pilot turned rogue helping a cartel leader ransom world leaders with a powerful satellite system, and a powerful stealth plane. An old friend of his is chosen to lead a military unit to stop his old friend (gee, THAT plotline hasn't been used before).

The "Rangers" they send to stop Ice-T are some of the worst Rangers I've seen on screen. They looked more like Cuban soldiers, and I have to wonder if they just said, "Hey guys we're making a movie, come dressed in whatever military gear you got." I've never gone to Ranger school, but I seriously doubt they train a "Stand Out in the Open and Get Shot Doctrine."

And what the hell was with the Saddam Hussein clone? He barely served any purpose to the plot...except to appear and get blown up. A guy with a mustache, pork belly, and beret isn't going to draw laughter from the audience?

    5 out of 5 stars Absolute Genius!.......2001-10-28

    Picture the scene...

Saddam Hussein (apparently French judging by his accent) goes to Thailand to purchase a case of machine guns... personally. To celebrate cliching the deal the devout muslim pours a glass of vodka for his Thai warlord friend and swigs from the bottle himself uttering one of the classic lines of modern cinema... 'A toast!'. He then stumbles on to the veranda of the hut to be nuked by Ice-T in a sttthhtealth (sic) fighter. We laughed for hours! OK so the film is terrible but that one scene makes this a work of absolute genius!

Here is 'a toast' to the inspired direction and sparkling performance by 'Saddam' he diserves an Oscar!! Perhaps the CIA could replace the real Saddam with the star of this film. No one would be able to tell the difference!

But not if Ryan Mitchell (Costas Mandylor) and the U.S. government prevail with plans of their own. A top-notch naval reserve officer who has a history with Turner, Mitchell is recruited by the president of the United States to infiltrate the arms dealer's ranks and recover the stealth fighter weapon.

      Description

In the aftermath of World War II, the Soviet Union and America helped themselves to a treasure trove of Nazi technology. Out of these spoils came two very similar jets--the MiG 15 and the F-86. But the MiG came first, and its effectiveness shocked the unsuspecting West and threatened to turn the tide of the undeclared air war over the Cold War battleground of Korea.MiG-15: RUSSIAN STEALTH reveals how the Soviets combined domestic ingenuity and "borrowed" European technology to produce this legendary fighter. Veterans of the very first jet versus jet dogfights reveal what it was like to fly the MiG in combat conditions, while Soviet archival film documents these once-secret engagements.Travel back to the dawn of the jet age for a fascinating look at the plane that panicked the West.
