3 out of 5 stars Everyone has beef.......2007-08-20

For those not up to date with who is mad at who, or who was fighting and isn't anymore, this is for you...

5 out of 5 stars Great documentary on the history of MC battles.......2006-05-04

Beef is a documentary which chronicles the hiphop battle from it's earliest days to the industry driven beef that you generally see these days. Several significant battles in the history of hiphop are included starting from the very earliest, Kool Moe Dee v Busy Bee, the most serious, Pac v Biggie up until recent battles such as 50 Cent v Ja Rule. What is great about this dvd is that it clearly shows how battles have changed over time becoming increasingly violent, obviously culminating in the deaths of Pac & Biggie. It is also very informative for anyone not up on their hiphop history, instead of going with what is popular now it sets out in great detail key battles between KRS-One and MC Shan, various LL Cool J Battles and also the break up of NWA and everything that followed. You also get to hear several of the greatest diss tracks ever including my personal favourite Cube's No Vaseline.

Basically Beef covers the most significant battles ever in hiphop, if you even have a slight interest in hiphop you should pick this up. Most of the battles have interviews from both sides, giving a balanced account of the beef, and several other industry heavyweights are interviewed on the documentary. It doesn't spend the whole documentary on Pac & Big or the supposed West/East Coast beef, which is probably a good thing as this is well documented already. What beef does well is show in time how the battle has changed and for thst purpose it is an excellent dvd. There are also some decent extras, best of all being the golf club incident with Nate Dogg & Dresta out of Eazy's crew. The only criticism I had was it spent too much time on the Tru-Life v Mobb Deep beef, as most people won't have heard of Tru-Life I just didn't see how it was that relevant to the rest of the dvd. It was interesting to see that Tru-Life did regret the situation a couple of years later though, so he definetley changed from what he was saying earlier. Anyway as I said before this is essential for anyone with any interest in hiphop, pick it up now if you haven't already.

5 out of 5 stars Great reference.......2006-03-05

I'm doing a term paper on the history of hip-hop founders and I was ecstatic when I saw the advertisement for "Freshest Kids" and bought it immediately. But anyway, THIS "Beef" movie was so interesting. Some of the beefs I already knew about, but this movie takes a collection of artists that I was too young to really get into at the time: MC Shan, KRS One, and Busy Bee. I got to see a different side of artists that I wasn't familiar with and learn about their rhyme skills and what made them tick. I knew quite a bit about Kool Moe Dee though and I will be using his book "50 Greatest Emcees: There's a God on the Mic" in my paper. This movie is a great reference for understanding how hip-hop music has changed throughout the years, in addition to the beef between artists. From the party hip-hop-and-you-don't-stop anthems to intellectual arguments to gangsta nonsense (yeah, I said it: nonsense!) to Eastcoast rhymes, etc. I love to follow the history of such a beautiful music...and I think the beef I enjoyed the most was about Common and Ice Cube 'cause I had no idea Common could spit so much MORE intelligently (even getting gutter) than he already does.

5 out of 5 stars The best one.......2005-12-02

This is the best beef dvd out of all three of them. You get to the early battles like busy bee vs. kool mo dee, nwa vs ice cube, eazy e vs dr.dre, to today biggest battles like jay-z vs. nas and 50 cent vs murder inc. I do wish that they did have other big battles on here like eminem vs. benzino or mobb deep vs jay-z. But still this dvd is for any die hard hip hop fan. You won't be dissapointed when you buy this. You get interviews from rappers themselves as they tell you their side of the story.

4 out of 5 stars "Beef" Review.......2005-11-28

Hip-hop's most infamous feuds (on and off wax) are explored in great detail in this entertaining documentary. Such battles as Tupac vs. Notorious B.I.G., Dr. Dre vs. Eazy-E, Nas vs. Jay-Z, 50 Cent vs. Ja Rule, and Westside Connection vs. Common are chronicled. There's a lot of interesting information on here including an in-depth investigation of the infamous Hit Factory incident involving 50 and Murder Inc. Tru Life reflects on some poor choices he made involving his feud with Mobb Deep (complete with a rather intriguing robbery story). You'll also get to see the infamous golf club incident involving Nate Dogg and Gangsta Dre'sta (of Ruthless Records). If you're even the mildest hip-hop fan, "Beef" is a very entertaining documentary.

5 out of 5 stars fatalImage review.......2006-11-07

I enjoy this movie and watch it often. My VHS tape was getting worn; therefore, I ordered this in a new format.
Acting is very well done with just the right emotion in the right spots with excitement and romance.

1 out of 5 stars Collapses After A Promising Beginning........2005-04-22

Mother and daughter Barbara and Megan Brennan, played respectively by Michele Lee and Justine Bateman, on holiday in Paris, are engaged in the customary activities of tourists there: climbing to the top of the Eiffel Tower, boating upon the Seine, etc., with Megan capturing their activities with a video camera; when she mischievously films a couple passionately embracing at a construction site, she unwittingly records a murder and the killer, having spotted Megan's camera actions, pulls out all stops to find her in order to take possession of the damning tape. This is an intriguing basis for a scenario, but this internationally financed co-production droops hopelessly into weak melodrama as the script with its hackneyed dialogue is full of inconsistencies in logic and continuity, direction is flaccid, particularly of the featured players, and post-production dubbing and looping are flawed. Despite all of this, some excellent production values are in evidence, enhanced by appropriate scoring from Michel Colombier and the able cinematography of Jean-Yves Le Mener. A solid performance is given by François Dunoyer as a police detective and the splendid actress Sonia Petrovna garners acting honours with a skilled albeit largely wasted turn as a genuine femme fatale. For this low-budget affair, the DVD and VHS versions are identical.

3 out of 5 stars Mom comes through.......2002-11-11

Takes place in Paris. Mom and daughter seeing sights - sees too much. Unfortunately they were seen back. Filmed in Paris. Acting was well done. Michelle is skilled at playing the normally placid lady who when pushed too far, pushes right back. Would rate it higher if the production company had made better copies. The film was contrasted dark and the speech did not match the movement of the lips. Still in all, an excellant film.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting Caper in Paris.......2002-04-05

To me, a good soundtrack can add a lot to a movie, or conversely, a bad soundtrack can ruin my whole experience. This interesting, and sometimes very exciting story, is recorded in AC-3 which is the earliest version of Dolby's six speaker system now called 5.1. It is very expansive and greatly helps a somewhat less than totally clear video image which seems to add to the mystery. The story and acting was much better than I thought it would be. The Parisian police dedective was terrific as was the Michelle Lee and her daughter. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. The daughter was taking video movies of her vacation in Paris and accidentally witnessed a murder involving the Mob. Taka a chance and watch it!

The only work to describe the Producer and Star of this movie is "un puttanone". I don't know if is a Male or a SheMale.
And all this film is a ridicolous funny movie.
Enjoy this incredible italian trash movie.

5 out of 5 stars Stella Stefania is AMAZING!!.......2002-11-15

Buying this for Stefani's music videos is worth the price. She is like the definition of buxom. When she is running on the beach she looks like she could be a quarterback. The movie is a lot of fun too. It is not great but it is immensely entertaining on several levels. I adore this movie and Stefania!! I wish I could find one of her albums.

    4 out of 5 stars Great Flick.......2001-06-28

This is a great film. The plot is very good, very original for once in a genre that is lacking in new ideas. The film suffers a little by its amature-ish main characters, thats why I give it a 4 stars, but over all every actor does a good job. This is also Donald Pleasence's last film since he past away a year before this was released. This film greatly pays tribute to one of Donald's most famous works, Halloween 1-6. There is a great scene with great dialog that pays tribute to it. This film is for either a die-hard horror fan, a Donald Pleasence fan, or just a Halloween fan. I really enjoyed this one.

2 out of 5 stars Fatal Frames: Yin and Yang.......2001-04-04

Possibly I'm biased, I bought this on a whim one day because I'd seen other titles from Synapse such as "Evil Dead Trap" and "Brain Damage" and I thought that maybe this would rank amongst those. So long story short, I was dissapointed. I really wanted this movie to be good, and it was, in certain aspects. The art direction and cinematography were wonderful; they had brilliant settings that could have put Kurosawa to shame. Horror directors would drool over the locations they used. But unfortunately they let the actors talk. Now I'm no stranger to horror films, I understand that the acting is not going to be Shakespeare but good lord did these actors stink. And worse than the acting was the music; lab monkeys could have made a better score. Any time there was a scene where the atmosphere started to sink in, Corky and his band would kick in and spoil the experience. So in conclusion; did I like this film? No. Did I hate this film? No. Would I recommend this film to purchase? Not for the money.

    5 out of 5 stars Great Stuff.......2001-01-02

I've seen it three times, a wonderful Donald Pleasence, a great cast for a great performance, a beautiful Rome, the machete chops and a technically perfect music, made me feel the fear and the magic in a way I was never used to.

I bought this movie because I am a huge fan of Jennifer Jason Leigh, and that was the only reason I bought it. The DVD is cheaply done it self a both movies suck. I know what you're thinking, its probably so bad its funny. NO, its not. I almost died of boredom. The action scenes were soooo poorly done and the acting (what acting?) looks like they're reading off of cue cards! Only buy this movie if you're a die-hard fan of Jennifer Jason Leigh.

This movie was allegedly made in 1998, looks as if 1988. Shannon Whirly is hot but only nude in the last 3 minutes of the film. Other than that the entire movie is really dull.

2 out of 5 stars Shannon Whirry is awesome but movie not very good.......2000-03-12

This movie doesn't make it as a wild action film or as a mystery. The comedy mostly falls flat, the male lead is dreadful and the plot seems to have been written on a cocktail napkin. None of the characters is particularly believable. So why did I give the movie 2 stars? Shannon Whirry. That's it. She is the ONLY reason to watch this one. She looks fabulous and has a great but too short shower scene. The love scene is good but this movie needs lots more Shannon and lots less of everything else. (And although I think Shannon Whirry looks great here I also think they should have fired the dialect coach: I never once believed she was English.)
