Like a Neon Sign.......2007-02-22
While I enjoy the romantic comedy genre, the script for this film plods and the story is so predictable that it actually was a bit tedious. That's not to say that the romantic aspects of the film aren't also enjoyable, because I did enjoy the film -- it just took me about 5 times to sit through the DVD. Michael Vartan from the Alias TV series fame has been in several romantic comedies like "Never Been Kissed" (1999) & "Monster-in-Law" w/ Jane Fonda & Jennifer Lopez (2005). Vartan is an interesting actor. Born in Paris, he began his early film career in French-speaking films. He has a charming boyish sincerity that plays well, even in this DVD. Natasha Henstridge came to attention in the Species series where she played in all three of those movies as well as in "The Whole Ten Yards" & "Bounce." The plot is predictable with the two fiancees each planning their weddings solo & then discovering that they've fallen in love. Olivia d'Abo, who is the daughter of Michael a'Abo from the rock band Manfred Mann, plays Vartan's wealthy fiancee that eventually gets dumped. The coincidences in the movie are a bit too numerous, pointing like neon signs to the ending where Vartan's Charlie Hudson & Henstridge's Anna Penn fall in love. This is a nice evening's entertainment, particularly if you really enjoy the romantic comedy genre. While Vartan & Henstridge do well enough, they still can't surmount the material. Enjoy!
Enchanting.......2007-01-02
This movie was a beautiful representation of what happens when two individuals are destined to be together. I enjoyed watching the story as it unfolded. The friendships within this movie were very realistic and heartwarming. I recommend this movie to anyone who is searching for evidence that divine love connections are possible.
Michael Vartan... mmmmmmm :).......2006-11-03
I bought this film because it Michael Vartan (Vaughn in Alias) plays in it... I never heard of it before my search, but it's surprisingly good !
Romantics, read on! Cynics, don't bother!.......2006-07-14
I read all the reviews of this movie before writing mine. I LOVE THIS MOVIE! I've watched it at least 50 times and it makes me cry each time. I know, I'm a hopeless romatic and probably a total fool, but this movie is so sweet. I think Michael Vartan (!!) and Natasha Henstridge have chemistry that works in this movie. I also like the subplot of Henry and Tracy and them not knowing their best friends are the ones who are getting married to people they are not suited for. Maybe the writing and editing are poor, I'm not educated to comment in that area, but the movie is funny in many parts, depicting typical New York snobs such as the salesperson at Bulgari. The fact that they fall in love during the weekend they are both planning their weddings to other people is a fun twist. They do "the right thing" by not being together until they break up with their respective intendeds. Unlike most real life. Maybe love at first sight isn't smart or lasting or whatever, but remember - IT'S A MOVIE! It's for entertainment value, and I feel entertained each time I watch it. I like the music and wish I could find the soundtrack to buy. I have watched this movie with two of my guy friends, and both of them cried, although not as much as I did. The part that always gets me is at the end when they are in the park, pretending to fly to Europe and then she says she can't do it. Notice the look on Michael's face as the camera fades away...then the song..."have you ever loved somebody so much it made you cry?" Yes, I have. Yes, I do. Enjoy this movie for what it is, fun, romantic, with a (thankfully) happy ending.
Sweet.......2004-11-12
This is really not a bad movie. True, the script isn't the greatest thing and it is predictable, but that doesn't make it a bad movie. The plot is interesting, the situation is heartbreaking and the acting is pretty good. The problem this film has is that it is both a chick flick and a drama and it can't seem to decide which it wants to be. If you think you can live with that, then I recommend it. If you don't, then don't buy it. All you basically need to know about the plot is that two people, Anna and Charlie, meet the weekend they are both planning their weddings and they fall in love. And, of course, we all know what happens at the end, but all in all, it is still a pretty romantic movie.

The best dvd ever.......2006-11-10
This by far is one of the best drumming dvd's I have ever seen! There is some of the best preforming artist's in the world of drumming today on these dvd's. The Hip Pickles was a great suprise to see on the discs. Drum line playing is one of my favorite styles of playing. I would recomend these discs to any one who loves playing, watching, and listening to the art of drumm playing

Great Idea...........2003-07-18
Film-Fest is a great idea and I wish I'd thought of it. So what is "Film-Fest"?.."Film-Fest" is an interactive movie magazine that's entertaining as well as informative. And by the looks of how rare and what it costs to get back "Issues", they seem to be a collector's item as well.Just like any magazine it is filled with interviews, features, and short stories, these being in the way of "shorts" by up and coming young filmakers. And just like any other magazine, there are also advertisements(which you can fast foward through if you like). Film Fest is geared toward an audience that enjoys and is interested in the world of Independent filmaking.
I throughly enjoyed this issue of "Film-Fest 4".It centers around the Sundance 2000 and Hawaii International Film Festivals. The interviews and candid chats with such stars as Brenda Blethyn, Nick Nolte, Nathan Lane,Heather Graham, and Dave Foley among others were highly entertaining. What I most enjoyed were the shorts. Included is "Call Me Fishmael", a delightful animated short,"Enchanted", "Protest",a highly innovative piece about the endangered elephant, and the very charming "Jorge".These shorts may be watched with or without commentary from the directors and vary in length. You'll also find coming attractions for other films,a terrific feature on Seniors who surf, and lots of Film-Fest facts in the form of notes.
There's alot to look at. The interactive menu's are great. You can choose exactly what you want to watch, each section has their own menu's to navigate through, or you can just pop in the disc and let the DVD take you through the whole 2hr 10 minute view.
The DVD has a great picture and sounds nice as well. I had alot a fun, viewing this issue and will probably order some more, For those interested in this sort of thing, you can also order a subscription(which I'll probably do). It is the much more economical way to go.
Enjoy...oh and when you get to a menu that has a picture of Kevin Smith, be sure to click on this...he's always fun!...Laurie
My Favorite FILM FEST Issue.......2001-02-10
This is probably my favorite issue of this excellent DVD magazine series. Or maybe issue 3 is. I dunno. There is an outstanding short film on this disc called Protest that makes the whole disc. It's a must see if you are into computer generated animation - crank up the Aria, turn out the lights and stare at your screen - and the director's commentary on the alternate audio track really added to my already considerable awe. As for the rest of the disc, articles are cool, interviews are interviews, Call Me Fishmael is hilarious, Enchanted is a really solid student film out of Germany and Jorge is a charming, Quirky half hour short.
Informative dvd, if anything else........2000-12-07
I bought this for the interview with the stars of Committed. I thought it would be longer, its under 5 minutes. The interviews with Johnny Rotten and Dave Foley are nice. But if you're one of the many probably buying this for Heather Graham (unlike me), you might be disappointed. But at under $13, who can go wrong?
Very informative.......2000-10-14
I enjoyed this collection very much. If you're interested in press conferences and short films, I think you'll find this is a good look at what film festivals are like. But there is very little of Heather Graham on this DVD -- so don't be fooled by the cover.

Customer Reviews:
A waste of ten bucks.......2003-02-20
I picked this up based on the reviews I read on Amazon and the low price. I was expecting a movie that rivals John Woo's Hard Boiled for non-stop action. Also a "Hollywood Style" flick that kept me riveted to the screen. I was sorely disappointed. I was stupefied by the first few minutes. Why were there jets flying around? It seems the jets were there just so they could put them on the DVD cover. Then a Singaporean general gave a boring speech about the "real war" on the internet. What on earth was he talking about? The rest of the film has a cliched plot about innocent guy whose brother creates a computer program that could crash the stock market. At two points the world stock market appears erased. The ending doesn't 'wrap it up'. I never found out if the Stock Market recovered. Does anyone know?
Only saving grace for 2000 A.D. was a couple of good action sequences about 30-45 minutes in. They were surprisingly brutal. If I were ever to watch this film again I would definitely skip to these scenes.
I recommend you get classic Hong Kong cinema such as "Hard Boiled" or "Naked Killer" instead.
Actually "Gen-X Cops" or "Black Mask 2" look like more fun than this.
I'll let you know.
John Woo, eat your heart out........2001-07-14
There are two main reasons why 2000 AD stands above films such as "Gen-X Cops" and other recent Hong Kong attempts to emulate the Hollywood "style". Reason number 1: PACING! Gordon Chan realizes that all the top Hollywood action films are paced so that any plot problems are glossed over quickly and the audience is kept busy with action and intrigue. In comparison, many of the other Hollywood-wannabe films from HK have suffered from slow or erratic pacing, resulting in an awkward film that feels neither like a Hong Kong film nor a Hollywood one. Reason number 2: Hands-down the BEST SHOOTOUTS since John Woo left Hong Kong. Seriously. The most incredible part of Gordon Chan's virtuoso action scenes is that he does NOT ape the Woo style, but employs his own unique approach. Specifically, he goes for a very hard-hitting, realistic style. No slow-mo or double pistols. It's all about bad-... weaponry and real-world military tactics. The first two gun battles in this film should have any red-blooded action fan jumping out of his/her seat. If you liked the street shootout in Michael Mann's "Heat", then you should get a kick of 2000 AD.
Had potential for more, but IMPRESSIVE nonetheless.......2001-06-29
"2000 A.D.", starring Heavenly King Aaron Kwok, boosted up Raintree Pictures of Singapore to a new level. Aaron Kwok, Richard Ng, and the bad-guy (forgot his name:P) all give the audience new perspectives. The editing is very original, and sound will blow you away. "2000 A.D." managed to bring audiences something new. With special effects brought to the screen from the team that worked on "INDEPENDENCE DAY", and with Aaron Kwok being the first to fly an F16 in an Asian film, director Gordan Chan never fails at surprising his audience. However, if you're looking for kung-fu, go look for Jet Li classics. If you're looking for something to blow-up and make the walls shake, "2000 A.D." is near perfect. Director Gordan Chan did well, and even though Aaron's acting was at times sketchy, overall performance and plot were well developed. - Priscilla
THIS MOVIE IS THE MAIN REASON TO BUY A SURROUND SOUND 5.1.......2000-11-16
This movie is great, showing Aron Kwoks style of Fighting and Gun Play. The Fight scene are well done by Yuen Tak.The moody soundtrack is great, and well edit action scene to make the flow of Drama. The rooftop fight scene will show how important to show the style of modern day fighting. The Story is complex, and too many characters to know. Once Kwok and his little group of friends are introduced they become involved in a rather complex and confusing international espionage involving the theft of a sophisticated computer program. Andrew Lin is cast as a renegade CIA agent behind the theft and the murders along the way. The stylized action sequences are very taut and explosive, as is expected in a Gordon Chan film. The director uses some startling editing and camera effects to show a unique perspective on the explosive violence. Also a new actor name MIKE CHAN has a rare CAMEO as himself.(SELINA'S Friend who gave back the Ring). Im telling you guys, the conclusion will make you fell special.

$38 Shooting Budget..........2004-04-27
...and none the worse for it. Brick brings a hail of hot leaden death to the South Bronx. I was going to use Jack's surname there, but no-one likes a smartarse.
No messing about. His gun may look like it fell out of a Christmas cracker, but it's got an inexhaustible supply of soft-nosed explosive slugs that'll blow huge chunks out of the baddies (and anyone foolish enough to mention that he has dry hair all through the film.)
An actual plot. Not the greatest script, but the cast really do it justice, which makes all the difference. They can act.
Nice to see the gang leader again. He was in "Breaking Away", and hardly seems to have aged at all.
Thirteen Inches...With An Attitude!.......2002-07-16
He's the toughest cop on planet Arturus. A fearless renegade. But when a high-speed space chase lands him in the middle of a gang war in the Bronx, Brick Bardo (TIM THOMERSON) is in a class of his own--he's thirteen inches tall and is armed with the deadliest weapon man has ever seen.
As always, Brick has perfect timing: he lands just in time to save a streetwise woman from a scorching death at the hands of some drug thugs. She's Debi Alejandro (KAMALA LOPEZ) and she's ruffled the feathers of the wrong group of people in her fight to clean up the neighborhood.
Debi takes Brick under her wing and he joins her crusade to eliminate drug lord Braxton Red (JACKIE EARLE HALEY). Now Brick is known as DOLLMAN...a criminal's deadliest nightmare.

In this 2000 concert, conductor Pierre Boulez and the Chicago Symphony tackle three 20th-century works that are the specialty of the orchestra's former music director. The suite from Alban Berg's unfinished opera, Lulu, is revealed as substantive and compelling. Soprano Christine Schaefer exquisitely sings Lulu's short vocal interludes, and is also featured in Claude Debussy's sublime vocal settings Le Jet d'eau et Trois Ballades de Villon. Finally, Boulez's forces give Stravinsky's first full-length ballet, The Firebird, an electrifying run-through.
As a bonus, there's a fascinating talk between Boulez and his successor in Chicago, Daniel Barenboim. For an informative 20 minutes, the maestros discuss their approaches to music, even touching on how to deal with Richard Wagner in the 21st century. --Kevin Filipski

Customer Reviews:
modernist showcase of impassioned performances.......2001-12-03
The on-going winter residencies of Pierre Boulez with the Chicago Symphony is fast becoming legendary. Maitre Boulez began over ten years ago with concerts of the modernist repertoire of Berg, Bartok, Stravinsky, Webern, and proceeded backwards with fascinating readings of Mahler and Bruckner.
These relatively recent post-romantic rendevous for Boulez began many years ago with his associations with Otto Klemperer in London in the Sixties. Boulez was a frequent enthusiastic attendee to Klemperer rehearsals and these interpretive experiences have remained with him.
Here the selections from "Lulu" are sketchlike premonitions of the power of this subversive 12 tone opera. Ms.Schaefer sings in between well placed orchestral 'interludes' so that the ambience is much like a concert aria-tone-poem, without the vocal moments dominating. The CSO playing reflects typically the Boulez penchant for, clean, precise, balanced moments, not afraid of rendering ugly expressionistic timbres, structurally controlled to its details. The thorny, sculpted structures are very clear. Ms. Schaefer has a commanding stage persona,non-threateningly beautiful, with short auburn hair with a rich uncompromising voice, dark when necessary, and deeply mindful of the lyricism that was the creative center for Berg's aesthetic.
She brings this sensitivity to the two Debussy orchestral songs as well, one early work from Baudelaire and the three Villon settings from Debussy's mature years.
Included here as well is the complete "Firebird" something Boulez had actually instigated many years ago as opposed to indulging popular tastes with the quick fix "Firebird Suite".
The complete "Firebird" rendered within the concert hall venue only works if you have wonderful players, those who now, from CSO understand the Boulez interpretive vocabulary quite well. John Bruce Yeh the Eb Clarinetist is one formidable soloist in the well known dance, which extends past to more clarinet hih register exposure. Also Adolph Herseth, trumpet, Dale Clevenger, Horn, Charles Pikler, Viola, Samuel Magad, Violin. They all also impart their soloistic visions in the service of this massive work.
There is then a brief discussion between Pierre Boulez and Daniel Barenboim, this was quite interesting with a focus on some of Boulez's approaches to conducting the modernist repertoire, that there are more layers to clarify within modernist repertoire. They also spoke of the importance of Wagner, as the first modernist in retrospect.

Keep away.......2005-09-06
I would not listen to this on walkman and would not watch it on any medium. It is shame that such material should be offered on DVD or any other medium. One star is too much for it.
