"You don't need to be thin, young, and a contortionist to do this program," says instructor Peggy Cappy. Yoga for the Rest of Us is a yoga practice for people who might be inflexible, out of shape, or feeling aches and pains. Cappy presents three 20-minute routines that work separately or together. Part 1 is a series of warm-up seated stretches. Part 2 presents standing poses, holding a chair if needed. Part 3 is a flowing series of Sun Salutations, building stamina, and again using a chair if necessary, followed by relaxation. Public television yoga instructor Cappy teaches gently and quietly, accompanied by demonstrators of various ages and conditions. Recommended for people who thought that yoga was beyond them because of age, medical conditions, or fitness level, especially those with functional challenges, such as not being able to bend down or reach for a top shelf. --Joan Price

5 out of 5 stars Great Yoga DVD.......2007-08-16

If you're just starting out, this is a great product for you. It really is Yoga for the rest of us. It's easy, but a good workout, and Ms. Cappy is an excellent guide.

5 out of 5 stars Don't miss this one.......2007-07-12

This DVD is great for any level. I take a chair yoga class and use this DVD to practice during the week. The instruction is clear and it offers many variations to each pose according to your ability and the level you are at. I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants to try yoga.

3 out of 5 stars Yoga for the Rest of Us.......2007-07-10

The salutation to the sun was way too difficult. I found the rest good, but not broken down so that I could go to the relaxation at the end of the sun movements without doing a fast forward. Would be better if you could go to a title of each.

5 out of 5 stars mommy melissa.......2007-08-24

This is the greatest video ever!! It has taugh my little girls, 2 and 3, how to handle there emotions and a well being of self. They love all the animals in the video and the children. We often us this as a tool during dinner preparation time to engage the children while I'm trying to cook for my family. Once a very stressful high break down rate time is pleasant and my girl are happy to do "kids yoga." We also brought it on vacation to grandma's house. They loved their little touch. They love to show off their tree pose!! You can't go wrong with this dvd!!

3 out of 5 stars Yoga Kids: For Ages 3-6.......2007-08-02

this video is ok... I have used it for ages 3 to 5 and have found children at these ages would either like more instruction on how to do the poses as well as learn more poses or would rather more capturing animation related to popular kids movie stories such as the Disney series...

3 out of 5 stars Not For This Age Group.......2007-07-31

I think the recommended age group is a little off. I bought this for my niece an nephew ages 3 and 4 respectively. It is definitely not appropriate for them.

5 out of 5 stars Kid Yoga.......2007-06-05

My daughter enjoys this. She tries to impress others with her little yoga skills. I can see her concentrate on trying to do the poses. It makes her feel proud and builds her self confidence.

The video is put together well for young kids with lots of pictures of natures and songs.

4 out of 5 stars Fun and enjoyable.......2007-05-12

My daughter is only 3 so her attention span doesn't hold out for the whole show but she is enjoying some of the moves and I catch her doing some when we're not even watching it. I think once she's a bit older she'll be able to do the whole show. She enjoys watching other kids and the animals.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Good core workout.......2007-04-08

Excellent cuing on form and breathing. I love to do the 20 minute matwork at the end of a different cardio workout. Excellent abs/back workout with nice stretching to wrap it all up. I always feel refreshed afterwards.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic workout to challenge you.......2007-02-04

I've owned this DVD for a while now - for some reason I keep forgetting how much I enjoy it and it finds itself left on the shelf. Then I rediscover it and fall in love all over again.

This is a fantastic, challenging yoga/pilates workout. Karen's form and cueing are exceptional - she reminds you to place your weight here, push your foot there, bringing your own form and workout along in leaps and bounds. It will push you - some of the balancing poses will really force you to focus on stabilising your torso so you don't fall, and the warrior/triangle series really makes my legs shake.

The workout can be done as a whole, or you can choose from the 25 minute "Flow Series" or the 20 minute "Pilates/Yoga Matwork" section.

I would recommend this to those with some background knowledge of yoga; although Karen's instruction would probably allow a beginner to use proper form, I suspect it may be too challenging.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT DVD.......2006-07-22

I like this DVD a lot.Karen Voight gives clear instructions and I found the excersises and stretching to be very effective.

2 out of 5 stars YogaSculpt.......2006-07-05

I love Karen Voight, but was extremely disappointed with this DVD. It is the EXACT same DVD as Yoga & Sculpting even though they have different release dates, 4 years apart! The cover on the DVD is different but she's wearing the same outfit and does the same routine. They don't tell you that in the advertisement. Because I liked Karen Voight, I ordered another DVD and then ended up with 2 DVDs exactly alike. I was so upset about this that I emailed her company and told them about it. They knew they were the same but don't tell you that in the advertisement. They were nice enough to exchange YogaSculpt for another DVD for me. But it was a pain because I had to send them YogaSculpt and wait for them to send me something else.

5 out of 5 stars She makes you work :-).......2006-05-11

Karen is such a great instructor. She's motivating and fun and works you hard - but not in a bad way. This is another great workout of hers and at the same time you are working hard, it's also kinda relaxing.
The moves here are mixed yoga, pilates and muscle toning. You will sculpt your body if you do this often and consistantly. You engage several muscles at a time to get the most benefit, since you are strengthening some muscles and stretching others at the same time.
This is a good 42ish minute long dvd that is enjoyable to do because of her great instruction and beautiful set and music. I love this workout alot.

Description

Yoga can help reverse the aging process by improving flexibility, massaging the internal organs and glands, sending oxygen to all the body's tissues, and enhancing a state of serenity. Breathing deeply into certain postures affects the nervous and lymphatic systems. It helps relieve tight muscles, increases energy and circulation, improves strength, and promotes radiant skin. On a deeper level, it's a tool for observation. It brings us into the present so that we may fully receive what each moment has to offer and teach.

Join Rainbeau Mars and experience yoga in paradise on the breathtaking beaches of Maui. Vinyasa Flow: Pure Tranquility is a gentle practice, designed to open your body and prepare your mind for meditation. For some of us, the real challenge is to be still, quiet and simply be with ourselves.

Pure Tranquility gives you the tools to help balance the demands that are put upon our body, mind and spirit. Replenish the source and you can live in a state of inner peace, vibrancy, health and harmony.

This is truly the heart of yoga. Enjoy!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Easy and serene.......2007-05-12

This version was easy to follow, did not involve elaborate positions, and provided quiet time for meditation.

4 out of 5 stars Very gentle, slow paced yoga stretching for thighs, hips, shoulders, neck.......2007-05-08

Many people wrote great reviews, I will only add what has been mostly left out.
The menu options are the audio in 2.0 or 5.1 dolby, chapter selections, photo gallery, the bonus section has a 9 min guided meditation (using verbal hints of color, chakras, nature elements) & trailers of her other dvds.
The workout is mostly gentle stretching, 95% in cross legged position. There is a great side torso stretch (arm/hand placement is key) that works the side, shoulder & neck as well, basic common yoga sitting spinal stretch, 2 deep shoulder stretch behind your back also using isometric pulling from the other hand, basic sitting straight leg bend, a one knee bent over the other straight leg knee (great deep hamstring stretch never seen before) & bending fwd & butterfly.
I enjoy Rainbeau's pure positive speech & ways to describe how to move. She sounds like a calm yogi/martial art master. Those who did not like her voice or especially her reminder to "enjoy your breath" probably were holding theirs & pushing their body too far, too fast. She said it herself, this yoga dvd is for learning to go slower, to relax, to really go deep in your body calmly & slowly to open up deep emotional tension that you would skip over in a faster routine.
I was able to go slow & deep w/o getting antsy & hitting the fwd remote I normally would from a teacher who was not as calm as she is. By doing so, I really got some deep stretches & really opened up my neck, shoulders & hamstring. I did feel some subconscious emotional tension come to the surface, but not fully released, but then I did skip the meditation in the bonus section.
This dvd is those who have or looking for yoga teachers who do have full body awareness who knows what feels good, with what specific arm, leg position in the right order who are looking for a slow, calming session to open up emotional tension that is the source of physical tension. In this particular dvd, it is best if you can hold a cross legged position a long time, though you can also have your legs in butterfly position or pause the workout & take breaks.
If you're looking for a more physical demanding workout, try her Pure Sweat or Power yoga. For other teachers with body awareness, try Rodney Yee, Wai Lana, Shiva Rae, Yogi Hari, Better Sex Through Yoga, Yoga with Ateeka, Yoga Fusion-Power, The Firm-Power yoga.

5 out of 5 stars The Most Relaxing.......2007-03-14

This 30 minute practice is just about the best restorative yoga DVD you can imagine. It's set in Maui, so the scenery is lovely, and the entire practice is done seated, for those stressful days when you don't have the energy for much of anything. She does use a lot of "new age" terminology, so it that bothers you, look elsewhere. If not, this DVD will surely become one of your favorites for relaxing.

As Rainbeau says, "Yoga is not a competition." Even though she is very advanced, as you can see when she demonstrates her own practice through the closing credits, she makes Pure Tranquility accessible to all fitness levels. A bonus 15-minute meditation session is also included.

5 out of 5 stars Ocean Waves.......2006-07-29

Rainbeau Mars practices yoga by the ocean and this specific yoga practice is mostly a seated series of exercises with stretching and relaxing as the focus. I will agree that Rainbeau Mars is for serious students of Yoga who have been practicing for a number of years. Her escapes into pure focus demonstrate perfect techniques and she gives key pointers to make sure you are doing the exercises correctly and with a sense of dedication. At times she starts talking about the movements slightly ahead of time, but this is OK because then you are well prepared for the next step. She has a beautiful spirit and never sinks into mediocrity. Each pose is perfected and performed like a work of art. In this DVD, you surrender to gravity as ocean waves crash behind on rocks. There is a balance between the ocean's energy and Rainbeau Mars inner tranquility. As you nourish the body with breath, you gain a sense of calm to face life's chaos.

~The Rebecca Review

5 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT YOGIC STRETCH!!!!.......2006-07-14

I found this workout to be an excellent relaxing yogic stretch workout. With a bonus meditation section. This is a well chaptered workout. Since it is chaptered you could easily add-on any section to another workout. It is all done sitting or lying down. This makes it a good cooldown stretch after an intense workout. Or doing the whole workout for a great relaxing stretch at the end of the day before bed. The instructor has a soothing voice, the scenery is beautiful and the music relaxing.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Disappointed.......2007-03-18

I bought this DVD looking for a slow, relaxing type of workout to supplement more strenuous astanga yoga. I was immediately put off by how loud the music was over the instructor's voice. The first pose was very uncomfortable for me (sitting on my lower legs) and I could not do these poses until I had stretched out my lower legs muscles. This ruined the continuity of the poses from the beginning. But, what most bothered me was the omission of one side of the body for the forward lunge. I could not believe that anyone would put out a DVD with such a major flaw. I have only worked with the first workout, but I doubt if I will ever put the DVD back in. I am going to buy a restorative yoga DVD that has long, slow poses with deep relaxation and I notice there are a couple of these products available here and I already have other DVDs for regular workouts.

2 out of 5 stars I wouldn't call this gentle...........2005-12-18

I have only tried a few Yoga Zones, but this is not one of the better ones, it is okay at best and has a few flaws. It is divided into 2-20 minute sessions, both led by Charles Matkin. The setting is outdoors at the Grand Lidos San Souci resort where many of the Yoga Zone videos are filmed.

The first session, Charles is joined by Lisa Bennett. They start with sun salutation while on their knees with hands clasped behind their back, then moving arms out and up with palms together, later rising up on the knees and bending forward at the waist. Then they move into a spine stretch, followed by a hip opener stretch, where you are seated with your heels together and hands behind you. Next are some standing poses, first downward facing dog, then lunge pose on the right leg later adding arms up and out to side then leaning forward. Unfortunately the left side is completely missed in this pose so if you want to do it you will have to rewind or stop the program. You will stretch out in seal pose, before moving into side lunges first on the right, then left. Then you will do a seated spine stretch where legs are out in front with hands behind you. Towards the end of the program the music becomes rather loud which is a bit distracting, to add to this there are some more challenging poses ahead. First table pose, which is repeated a few times and held for a bit the last time. Then you will do scale pose, Lisa does the modification where she is on her elbows, while Charles goes for the advanced version where arms are out and legs are straight. Following this you will do a seated stretch with one knee in, other leg out while reaching opposite arm to extended leg, then you repeat on the other side. Then you will move into plank pose, done on either knees or toes while moving into downward facing dog, these two are combined for a vinyasa, before finishing with more planks into chatarangas. A few final stretches remain, cobra into locust pose, childs pose, extended bound angular, and final relaxation pose.

In the second session, a sunburned Charles returns this time assisted by Jean. They are sitting on the beach this time which provides a nice backdrop. You start on your knees and do some shoulder rolls before going into a neck stretch. Then you will move into cat pose which Charles calls a "groovy pose", then you will do a combination of cat and seal pose. Then you will work the abs a little bit by doing a crunch variation with arms extended in front, then you will extend the legs up in the air and slightly back, this felt weird to me personally. Next is the clock which is basically pelvis rolls, then moving bridge poses where the hips and arms lift up at the same time. Following this is lunge pose, high or low while adding arms, then a cat-seal pose combination. Next you will stand for a "Sun Breath", arms up and out then diving down into a forward bend, this is repeated once or twice. Then you will do a standing camel pose, standing forward bend, before finshing out on the floor with bound angular, hamstring stretch, reclined bound angular (restorative pose), another moving bridge and finally coming into a cross legged seat.

While I don't have all of Yoga Zone videos, this is not one of their better efforts, and certainly not gentle as the title states. The first session also appears as session 2 in Total Body Conditioning, which overall would be a better choice than this one. This would be better suited for those experienced in yoga and definitely not for complete beginners. Fortunately most of Yoga Zones programs are good, but this one missed the boat.

3 out of 5 stars For Lifelong Couch Potatoes.......2005-11-29

I bought this thinking that I am totally out of shape and I should start out extra slow. Turns out that this DVD is too slow for me. Buy this if you don't even walk out to your mailbox every day or are recovering from an injury or something. But if you get up and move even a little bit (walk two blocks to work every day) or you have a job on your feet all day, chances are that this will be a little too gentle on you. And yes, beware the lunge mistake in the first segment. They forget to work your other side so be sure to rewind and repeat the sequence with the opposite leg! Not too bad, all in all.

4 out of 5 stars Very nice .......2005-07-27

I really enjoyed this DVD. Except for the music being a little too loud and Charles being a little hard to hear, it is a good routine. He has a sense of humor that is evident right from the start when he claims that Lisa, his partner, is his favorite instructor. The poses flow together beautifully and really stretch the body. He tells you to do what you can and to be comfortable with where you are right now. The two sessions flow together so it seems as if you are really doing just one session. Charles has good instructions and good pointers. For example, remember to relax your shoulders away from your ears when they automatically want to go into the ears. My only complaint about this tape was the fact that he did a lunge sequence on just one side so I felt I had to do the other side on my own. Unlike Douglas's Table Pose from Yoga Zone Stretching for Flexibility, Charles' Table Pose and Boat Pose were done with the breath so you felt comfortable doing these more difficult poses. Charles made you feel it was okay if you couldn't hold them as long as he and Lisa did. I highly recommend this DVD because it gave me what I wanted - stretching all my muscles while being relaxed and energized. Definitely a good buy!

2 out of 5 stars Far from gentle.......2005-05-07

I just attempted to do the first session of this video and it just goes too fast!!!! The stretches are too hard for someone that just may be starting out and it goes way too fast. There's no time to catch your breath and you start to hurt which if this is gentle yoga I would't think you would. I am quite dissappointed. This is defintley not gentle.

5 out of 5 stars The Best Of The Alternatives.......2007-02-01

I was a dancer and dance instructor for thirty years. I was a certified Iyengar Yoga instructor. I was an aerobics champion. Past tense. I'm now fifty-seven and have had two heart attacks, have SVTach, and am now nearly housebound with Meniere's Disease (including violent vertigo), and several herniated discs in my back. In short, I'm a wreck.

I own about two dozen tapes/DVDs for the old, infirm, and otherwise jacked-up. This DVD is the only one I use. It gives me a nice workout, but allows me the much-needed security of either sitting in or hanging onto a chair. Movements are explained well and demonstrated clearly. The Yoga instructor knows what she's doing and how to make exercising tolerable for those of us who can't participate in "real" Yoga.

All all-around great DVD.

1 out of 5 stars Imagine the yoga positions - but on a chair........2006-11-22

If you are a yoga master, this is the tape for you. Why, you'll sit in the full lotus position not on a comfy mat but on a chair. Yes, that should be easier! Well, I've got to say that my friend and I, who work out together and have the same physical limitations, had a wonderous rolling-in-the-floor laugh over this one, so for that it has value. This is really geared for the average to above average in fitness who have a very good sense of balance. Too tough for us, but we'll save it just for the inspiration. She was able to do some amazing things.

5 out of 5 stars Dr. Beth Chollete & Rebecca Johnson wrote great reviews.......2007-07-13

Since they already wrote all the great & different poses she uses which is different then some yoga dvds, I can add only that it also has the option of 5.1 surround sound so you can hear the Hawaiian ocean waves behind her.
The poses really work on building muscle strength, she really works the upper body with going up/down in chaturanga & her chair pose is 100x deeper, lower & harder to do then any other yoga dvd I've done.
Her personality is great, she's matter of fact with gentle optimism. Some lines are "stay conscious of the back, so you're not overreaching, the lower back houses the kidneys, maintain a fullness in your back to optimize good health & alignment," "You must sink to rise up," "extend strongly though the feet, the inner thighs will follow," "with strength in your arms, lower yourself to the floor," "remember to balance your effort w/surrender" "if you need to modify, it's perfectly ok, you will still build strength," "even the most beautiful lotus grows in dirtiest of ponds."
She is great with cues to remind you to keep going such as what organs each pose helps, not to get discouraged, analogies to really picture what you are trying to accomplish, etc. & to move through it. She's not fake happy, she tells you she understands it's tough, but it's worth it for your health to challenge yourself & do your best.
No,this isn't an advanced yoga workout, this is high beginner/low intermediate workout.

You can see her passion & ability to do yoga in clips on you tube.

1 out of 5 stars "Where is the Pure Power?".......2007-05-07

Do not waste your money - this is 30 minutes of baby crawling. What you see on the picture and what you can read from the title of the DVD and from the polite description, and what you actually get from the DVD itself are two different things. This DVD might be challenging for the barely alive but definitely not for the alive and well. It will take a long time to find the "Pure Power" there. She is not the first yoga instructor who forgot about yama and niyama. She might be all right by the law but she is really twisting yoga.

4 out of 5 stars Effective .......2007-04-21

Buy it and you will not regret it. If you are advance level, it will be a nice medium level workout. Newbies will get a tough workout. It is nice intermediate workout and you work up a little sweat, if you listen and follow the cues. Perfect time frame.

5 out of 5 stars Good short Power Yoga Practice.......2007-01-04

About myself:
I train in Power Vinyasa Yoga since about six Years. I practice every day.
I'm also a Power Yoga Teacher at a local Hotel Spa Fitness Club.
I personally prefer complete and challanging Workouts that still contribute to all aspects of Yoga.
Beeing german my english spelling is pretty bad. Excuse me for that.
About the product:
It's a good short programm. You can't train one hour every day, and short programms like this are perfekt for the days in between. The programm is physically challanging with some pretty unique variations to create upper Body Strength. An experienced Yogi can make it even more challanging by making some little variations like going from Chaturanga ( Low Plank Position) straight up to Upward Dog instad of lying down and than rising to Cobra as Rainbow does.
Rainbow Mars is a very nice encouraging Yoga Teacher. And to comment on some Reviews calling her to "New Age": She is a Yoga teacher, so she should talk a little colorfull ;-). This is Yoga Friends! You shouldn't be distracted by sentences like : "Melt down to the earth" or "offer your heart to the sky". These are actually Pictures that are helpfull for your practice if you try to be open minded with it. And even if it might be a little to much somtimes, who cares?
I highly recommend this programm!
Namasté.

5 out of 5 stars Revitalizing.......2006-06-23

Rainbeau Mars presents an intermediate practice session on a rocky shore in Maui. If you enjoy exercising outdoors, this is a session with flowing postures set amidst the ocean's power.

As waves crash behind Rainbeau Mars, she calmly moves through shoulder openers, challenging plank poses and the traditional downward dog and cobra. Plank becomes more challenging as you extend one leg behind you and then lower all the way to the ground.

Moving as slowly as you are (the routine is highly focused and precise), you may find yourself out of breath because you are truly lifting your body weight and moving from standing to flat on your stomach to revitalize your entire body.

If you wake up and you feel tired and listless, try a bellydance routine and then try this yoga practice. The positive narration and ocean vistas are emotionally healing and completing the challenging exercises will give you a renewed confidence to face the day. While many yoga routines seem to put me right to sleep at the end, this one leaves you feeling invigorated and very alive. You may also notice improved posture.

Special Features include working out without narration and additional bonus workouts with front and side angle views. What I like most about this entire workout is the focused narration and the insightful instruction throughout. Rainbeau Mars' advice allows you to go deeper into poses than you ever thought possible.

Pilates is an intense, controlled way of working your core muscles--the back and abdominal muscles that stabilize your body--using technique, breathing, and concentration. Veteran instructor Kathy Smith leads an effective 30-minute Pilates workout. The 8-minute warm-up teaches the essentials of Pilates, followed by a 22-minute Pilates routine that targets the abdominals. Smith is an excellent instructor with a knack for explaining technique clearly. "Imagine a balloon pulling you up toward the opposite wall," she says as she teaches the difficult Teaser. She demonstrates the basic, sometimes modified, moves with another exerciser showing more advanced positions. Smith continues to emphasize technique, breathing, and proper position through each exercise, making sure you understand how to get the most out of each movement. This is an excellent introduction to Pilates, especially--but not exclusively--for beginners to this discipline. --Joan Price

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars good beginner workout.......2004-05-21

This is a really good abs workout. It is shorter than SMith's other pilates workout for the lower body. I found that the exercises were harder and I was unable to complete the workout the first time. However, I give this workout four stars because it has some of the same ecercises as the Lower Body workout and it is not as long. I simply felt that Kathy Smith's Pilates for the Lower Body was the better video of the two. This works best when used with that workout.

4 out of 5 stars Great technique pointers make this a great abs workout!.......2004-01-23

At the start of this video, Kathy Smith takes a full 7 minutes to discuss proper form and alignment. She covers important Pilates terms such as the powerhouse, and she also offers detailed form pointers including how to pull your navel toward your spine, how to tilt your pelvis, and how to contract your pelvic floor (similar to Kegel exercises). Although I was already familiar with Pilates, I found this section to be a very helpful refresher, and I appreciated Kathy's unique instruction.

Kathy then moves on to the workout. Although she doesn't do the moves in the classic Pilates sequence--she notes that she altered the sequence to focus even more specifically on the abs--she does start with the typical Pilates first exercise, the Hundred. She performs this and other moves at a modified level while her assistant, Lija, demonstrates more challenging positions. The exercises include lesser-known Pilates moves such as the Can-Can and the Mermaid as well as a yoga pose, Bridge. Kathy offers form reminders throughout the workout, and I found this to be particularly helpful in making sure that the work was concentrated in my abs. The entire workout is over in a quick 20 minutes, but by the end, my abs definitely felt the work.

Although this workout is appropriate for those at a beginning level, I wouldn't recommend it to someone totally brand new to Pilates, as it proceeds a bit too quickly. Instead, a Pilates novice could use either Ana Caban's Beginner's Mat Work or Hilary Burnett's Pilates for Beginners to obtain more detailed instruction on performing the movements. Once the basic technique is learned, however, this workout is appropriate for beginning or intermediate Pilates practitioners who want a short program which specifically targets the abdominal muscles.

3 out of 5 stars Good introduction for beginning exerciser.......2003-11-09

This video would make an excellent introduction to Pilates for the beginning exerciser. As usual, Kathy explains each movement very well and reminds the exerciser to engage the powerhouse throughout the video. However she spends little time on each movement and the intensity level is very low. As an intermediate/advanced exerciser I did not feel like I got a good workout - way too short in reps and too long in instruction for longterm use to be of benefit.

3 out of 5 stars Negative Reveiws are true.......2003-08-28

I really should have taken the negative customer reviews more seriously before buying this tape. I believe some moves are well targeted to the abs while others are just too difficult, not to mention unsafe (the roll ups can easily cause injuries to your spine if you do not do them properly or if you're not on a cushioned enough mat or carpet). I also do not like the fact that she does not stretch at the end of the workout. I bought this tape along w/her "Pilates for the lower body workout" and I must say the latter is much better. Sadly, she uses the same Intro almost word for word.

5 out of 5 stars Graceful but intense ... and works!.......2003-08-16

Of all the Pilates tapes available on this, the planet Earth, Kathy Smith has produced the very best. I have tried others, but nothing matches the graceful (almost soothing)intensity of this 22 minute Pilates workout. Smith guides the viewer through each exercise and explains when to breathe and how to position yourself. Kathy Smith has been around for a while, and to be honest, the proof is in the appearance. She looks terrific. There is a reliability about Kathy that is hard-earned and well-deserved. I have used this tape for two years now. Other Pilates tapes have come and gone for me, but Kathy is the one I pull off the shelf every evening.

4 out of 5 stars Nice short Pilates workout providing a little boost of energy.......2006-03-29

Energy Boost Pilates is kind of different in that it begins in a standing position with a few aerobic-type moves such as jogs, knee lifts, jumping jacks, and jumping lunges. This segment is very quick--no more than 1-2 minutes--and is designed to warm you up, but you could easily skip it if needed. Instructor Ana Caban then proceeds to the floor for some traditional Pilates matwork moves. Using voiceover instruction, she leads you quickly through reclined exercises such as the hundred, the roll-up, and part of the stomach series. Moving to a seated position, Ana then performs an additional series of moves, some of which I had never seen before (and I've done A LOT of Pilates videos). Then it's a quick stretch and you're done, for a total of about 11 minutes. This video struck me as sort-of a shorter, more fast-moving version of Ana's PM Pilates workout; it's a nice alternative for getting in a full-body Pilates workout in a limited amount of time.

3 out of 5 stars This is the bonus workout from "AM PM Pilates Mat Workouts".......2005-11-06

"Energy Boost Pilates" is the bonus 15-minute workout from "AM PM Pilates Mat Work" with Jillian Hessel and Ana Caban.

Ana's alone outside by a pond with lots of plants and trees surrounding her. She cues in voiceover and she starts out with standing stretches. Then she has you jog, do jumping jacks and front-to-back lunges to "boost energy" with these short cardio moves. Then you roll down onto the mat for the hundreds, roll ups, leg stretches, the tree, shoulder bridge, the mermaid, etc.

There isn't much instructions for those new to pilates and Ana assumes familiarity with the poses. There's no demonstrations or suggestions for modifications, either.

4 out of 5 stars Really a Boost!.......2005-07-01

Sometimes I get a little bored while I'm doing Pilates DVDs, they tend to get really long. What is great about this one is that the exersize part only lasts for ten minutes. You really get a workout, though! It's perfect because you can fit it in really easily to your day. I love Pilates and this just makes it better! Ana Caban is a great instructor, too. She speaks really clearly and it's very calmly done. Great DVD all around.

4 out of 5 stars Not completely mistitled...........2004-12-07

If you did your research on the exercise video itself, you would find that most of the search results are from Yoga websites. Yoga is not for the flexible only. Yoga is about centering your body and awareness. It is NOT a challenge towards your spiritual beliefs, I am a Christian and I find that if I focus my efforts on clearing my mind and handing my problems over to God during my Yoga workout, I have accomplished more than 2 things during my day.

This video IS for people who sit extended periods of time during the day. Most of the injuries, such as carpel tunel, are a result of poor posture and misuse of our bodies. If you want to think of it in another aspect, this is the Alexander Technique in working. The two concepts are not dissimilar, they are merely related. I highly recommend this video if you are experiencing pain while sitting for extended periods of time at work. My mother used this video as a guide to help herself at work and her office team has borrowed the video and use it regularly to relieve stress. Do something positive for yourself and research the products you're interested in...

2 out of 5 stars mis-titled.......2003-07-29

The title is missing the word YOGA. No where on the Amazon page does it say YOGA yet that is the first word in LARGE type on the DVD. I did a search for "exercise", not YOGA. I have not opened the DVD yet so I have not viewed its contents having read the back label. This DVD is for "neck and shoulder tension, lower back pain, tight hamstrings, headaches, and carpal tunnel problems." Wish I had known that up front.
